Chapter 11
Get ready for its time for the ultimate battle of Fate vs Luck!
"I'll start things off," Ishizu said before drawing her sixth card. She looked at her starting hand, and then her Millennium Necklace glowed to show the future of this battle.
Duke Devlin: 8000
Ishizu Ishtar: 8000
'I see. So I will win.' Ishizu said in her mind before beginning her move.
"I'll begin by playing Zolga in attack mode and then equip him with the Equip Spell Card: Cestus of Dagla." Ishizu's serene face never wavered as she continued. "I place then play Card Destruction!"
The duelists discarded their hands, and Ishizu drew three new cards. "Then I placed two cards facedown and ended my turn."
Duke Devlin smirked as he drew his next card. "It's my move, and I think it's time I show you how lucky I really am!" He dramatically revealed his drawn card. "I activate Dark Resurrection. This Spell Card lets me revive all Normal Monsters in my Graveyard. And thanks to the Card Destruction you used earlier, I've got just the right ones waiting."
Ishizu's eyes narrowed slightly as Duke's Graveyard glowed with dark energy, and four figures emerged onto the battlefield. They were Dark Assailants, eerie, shadowy warriors wielding dual swords.
"Behold my four Dark Assailants, back from the grave and ready for action!" Duke grinned. "But I'm not done. Now, I'll increase their levels with a little luck. I activate Dice Roll of Fate! I get to roll a die and increase their levels by the Number I roll."
Duke tossed a shimmering six-sided die into the air. It spun wildly before landing on the field, clattering to a stop.
"Three!" Duke announced triumphantly. "That means all four of my Dark Assailants are now Level 7 monsters. But I don't need all of them…"
He pointed to three of the skeleton warriors. "I overlay three of my Level 7 Dark Assailants! With these three monsters, I construct the Overlay Network!"
A swirling vortex opened in the sky above the battlefield, and the three Dark Assailants were sucked into it, their dark energy swirling together in a spiral of power.
"Now, I summon my trump card: Number 07: Lucky Straight!"
From the vortex descended a gigantic figure—Lucky Straight, a monstrous humanoid gambler with a glowing die in one hand and a staff in the other. It hovered in the air, exuding an aura of Luck and fortune, its immense form casting a shadow over the entire battlefield.
Duke couldn't help but laugh. "Lucky Straight is the perfect symbol of my Luck. And now, its true power will decide this duel. With its effect, I can roll two die, and depending on the result, Lucky Straight's attack power will change. So let's roll the dice again!"
The massive die in Lucky Straight's hand began to glow as Duke prepared for the next phase of his turn, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
The battle between Fate and Luck was about to take another dramatic turn as Ishizu looked into the future and saw her victory. For some reason, she couldn't look at the result of the due until they landed on a one and six.
"Yes, and now I can increase his power to x700 with the highest result, which means Lucky Straight is getting a massive boost!" Duke said excitedly as Lucky Straight's power grew.
Lucky Straight: 700*6=4200=4900
"And since the result was exactly seven, I can choose a monster in my hand and summon it to the field, so say hello to Orgoth the Relentless!" Duke declared as the massive warrior roared as he appeared on the field.
"Next, I sacrifice my remaining Dark Assailant to summon Maximum Six, and when he's Tribute Summoned, I can increase his power multiplied by 200 with the die result," Duke said as he rolled another die. It landed on a six, which shocked the audience.
Maximum Six: 200*6=1200=1900 plus 1200=3100
"No way. The odds of getting a six multiple times are extremely lucky, or if he's using loaded dice," Keith said before Pegasus replied to him.
"You'd think that, but I checked the dice myself, and they are real. Duke Devlin actually came to me about a special game he created known as Dungeon Dice Monsters, and let me tell you that I loved it!" Pegasus said while Duke smiled, knowing his dream was coming true.
"And ever since I got Lucky Straight, I haven't lost a game of Duel Monsters since, so get ready because Orgoth's ability activates! I roll three die, and he gains a hundred attack and defense times the total, and not only that but if two of the results are the same, then something fun happens." Duke said as he threw his dice in the air, and all three spun around until the first one stopped.
First Die: 6
Second Die: 6
Ishizu was nervous about this because her Millenium Item had not worked since Lucky Straight appeared until the final die fell.
Third Die: 6
"Looks like Lady Luck favors me again because Orgoth gains all three of his special abilities and a boost of 1800 attack and defense points," Duke said as Orgoth roared while his power grew.
Orgoth the Relentless: 2500 plus 1800=4300
"And not only that but Orgoth cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects until the end of your opponent's turn. I can draw two cards. And this card can attack directly this turn." Duke said as he drew his new cards and smiled.
"I play Dicephoon, and depending on the result, I can activate one of its effects!" Duke said as he rolled a single die until it landed on a five.
"Yes! And since it was a five, I could destroy two spells or traps on your field, but I'll go for your two facedowns!" Duke said as the spell blasted the two facedowns off the field, making Ishizu hiss until Duke began his attack.
"Now go, Orgoth! Attack her directly with Relentless Slash!" Duke shouted as Orgoth roared and slashed Ishizu, who yelled as her life points dropped dramatically.
Ishizu Ishtar: 8000-4300=3700
"And now Maximum Six will attack Zolga!" Duke declared as Maximum Six roared and punched Zolga, destroying it.
Ishizu Ishtar: 3700-900=2800
"Ugh!" Ishizu shouted as she was about to play Thorn, the Disciplined Angel, until Duke stopped her.
"Not so fast! I play my Spell Card: Level Guesser! If my opponent is about to summon a monster from their hand thanks to a special ability, then I can take a guess on their level, and if I'm right, then that monster is sent to the Graveyard, and you take damage equal to its attack points." Duke said as he smirked before he continued, "And I'm going to guess that your monster is Level 4, Ishizu."
Ishizu's eyes widened slightly as Duke's guess landed exactly right.
"Your Thorn, the Disciplined Angel, is sent to the Graveyard, and now you'll take damage equal to its attack points!" Duke declared as the card vanished from Ishizu's hand in a swirl of dark energy, sending a wave of force toward her.
Ishizu's Life Points plummeted once again.
Ishizu Ishtar: 2800-1500 = 1300
Duke laughed confidently. "See, Fate is no match for Luck! I've got control over everything in this duel. Now, Lucky Straight, finish her off!"
But just as Lucky Straight raised its die to attack, Ishizu's calm demeanor returned, and the faint glow of her Millennium Necklace flickered around her neck.
"I activate my Trap Card: Soul Resurrection!" Ishizu declared, revealing one of the traps Duke thought he had destroyed. "This card only works when it is in the Graveyard since it allows me to bring back a Monster from my Graveyard in defense mode, and it can't be destroyed in battle this turn. Return to me, Zolga!"
The familiar form of Zolga reappeared on the field, kneeling defensively, just as Lucky Straight's attack struck. The impact shocked Zolga, but the defense saved Ishizu from a direct hit.
Duke gritted his teeth. "You got lucky, but you're only stalling, Ishizu. This duel is over next turn."
Ishizu looked up, her Millennium Necklace glowing brighter. "You believe Luck is on your side, Duke, but you cannot escape Fate. I see the path to victory, and soon you will understand."
"We'll see. I put two cards facedown and end my turn."
The battlefield was set for one final, climactic turn as Ishizu prepared to harness her powers of foresight for the decisive moment in their duel. The tension between Fate and Luck had reached its peak, and Duke's confidence was about to face its ultimate test.
'It seems Lucky Straight is the reason that Duke's luck has altered the course of Fate, but I cannot lose.' Ishizu said before drawing her next card.
"I play Spirit Draw! This spell allows me to draw a card for all monsters on the field, so I draw four," Ishizu said before smiling at her new hand. And since I have an Earth Fairy, I can summon Zolga the Prophet from my hand!"
Duke's eyes widened as Zolga the Prophet appeared on the field, radiating a mystical aura. Ishizu's voice remained calm and collected as she continued, her Millennium Necklace glowing faintly. "But they won't be here for long. I sacrifice Zolga the Prophet and my other Zolga to summon the divine Wingweaver!"
A blinding light engulfed the battlefield as the majestic Wingweaver, a towering angelic figure with six wings, descended onto the field. Her presence was serene yet powerful, and her attack points dwarfed those of most monsters.
Wingweaver: 2750 ATK
Duke grinned despite the powerful monster standing before him. "Impressive, but your Wingweaver doesn't stand a chance against Lucky Straight or Orgoth the Relentless."
Ishizu's expression continued. "You underestimate the power of Fate. But first, I activate my Spell Card: Ancient Prophecy!"
The air around the duelists shifted as the card activated. "With this card, I can look at the top five cards of my deck, rearrange them in any order, and choose one to add to my hand. The rest are returned to the top of the deck."
As the mystical energy of Ancient Prophecy swirled around her, Ishizu glimpsed the future once again. Her eyes glowed faintly as she rearranged her deck and drew her chosen card.
"And now, the card I drew will seal your Fate. I activate Reversal of Destiny! This Spell Card allows me to reverse the attack and defense of one of your monsters until the end of the turn. And I choose Orgoth the Relentless!"
Duke's confident grin faltered as Orgoth's massive attack points were suddenly swapped with his defense points, making his once fearsome warrior vulnerable.
Orgoth the Relentless: 2450 plus 1800=4250 DEF 4250 ATK.
"And there's more," Ishizu continued. "I now activate the Spell Card: Spirit Release! This allows me to banish up to all monster cards from both players' Graveyard, and your monster loses 500 attacks for each one."
Duke saw his four Dark Assailants, Zolga and Zolga the Prophet, as Orgoth lost 3000 attack points.
Orgoth the Relentless: 4250-3000=1250
Ishizu raised her hand, her voice calm and final. "Now, Wingweaver, attack Orgoth the Relentless! Divine Light Strike!"
The massive six-winged angel unleashed a beam of pure energy from her hands, crashing into Orgoth, whose weakened attack points couldn't withstand the assault.
"Not so fast! I activated my trap, Dimensional Prison, which sends your monster packing since it's now banished!" Duke declared. Ishizu was shocked before seeing Lucky Straight smirk at her. Wingweaver was banished, and Orgoth survived.
"...I end my turn," Ishizu said, knowing she had no other cards to play. Duke didn't mind, as he drew his only new card and activated it.
"I respect you as a duelist, but this duel is over since I play Banished Rebirth, which allows me to take a banished monster and summon it to my field. So come on back, Wingweaver!" Duke said as Wingweaver appeared on his side.
Ishizu said nothing as she accepted her Fate.
'It appears that Luck has changed the future I saw. Now I understand that the person's defeat I saw wasn't Duke Develin's but my own.' Ishizu said in her mind as Duke declared the attack, and Wingweaver blasted her with a ball of light.
Ishizu Ishtar: 1300-2750=0000
The group clapped for them as Ishizu congratulated Duke Devlin, who also thanked her for a fun match. The two departed, and Ishizu looked at the Millennium Items on her before taking them off her person and putting them in a briefcase.
"It seems that I cannot even see all the possibilities with the Millenium Items. I suppose I'll have to leave things to the remaining duelists of this tournament," Ishizu said before heading back to the audience, where Issei comforted her with a warm smile.
"You dueled your best. If it wasn't for those lucky rolls, I think you would've won," Issei said, which made Ishizu smile before she sat next to him and laid her head on his shoulder. This made him stiffen up a bit until he relaxed, making Ishizu giggle at his reaction.
"Thank you Issei Hyoudou. I hope to see what happens in these next couple of duels." Ishizu said while looking at Devlin polishing Lucky Straight's special card protector sleeve before recalling the rumors about said Number.
As Ishizu settled beside Issei, she couldn't help but glance at Duke Devlin from across the arena, polishing his Lucky Straight card sleeve. The duel weighed on her mind, not because of the loss but because of the strange anomaly she had felt with her Millennium Necklace. Never before had her powers been so thoroughly disrupted.
"It's strange," Ishizu muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. "The power of Lucky Straight… it's almost as if the Number altered more than just the course of this duel."
Issei looked at her, his brow furrowed in concern. "What do you mean? That card really did seem that different."
Ishizu nodded slowly. "There are rumors, Issei. Dark whispers about certain Number cards being able to twist Fate itself, even beyond the confines of a duel."
Her gaze shifted back to Duke, still engrossed in his victory. "The Numbers are more than just powerful monsters. They seem to resonate with the spirit of their wielders, magnifying their influence. Duke's Luck might not just be Luck after all—it may be something far more dangerous."
Issei's eyes widened. "Wait. Are you saying the Number cards could affect reality?"
"I'm not sure," Ishizu admitted, her voice filled with uncertainty. "But what I felt in that duel was unlike anything I've experienced. It's possible that Lucky Straight distorted and changed the future I saw."
Before Issei could respond, a familiar voice interrupted them. "Ah, Ishizu, my dear! Always so contemplative." Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters, strolled over to where they sat, his ever-present smile plastered on his face. "I must say, that duel was quite a spectacle! Duke's dice rolls were nothing short of divine."
Ishizu stood up, nodding respectfully. "Maximillion Pegasus…you were watching closely, I take it."
"Oh, absolutely!" Pegasus exclaimed, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "I couldn't resist. I've always had a soft spot for chance-based strategies. But I sense something else is troubling you, my dear. Could it be the outcome of the duel?"
Pegasus leaned in and asked Ishizu. "It's the Number card, isn't it?"
Ishizu nodded as Pegasus chuckled softly, but there was a knowing glint in his eyes. "Ah, the Numbers. Fascinating cards, aren't they? Each one carries a unique spirit, an energy that bonds with the duelist lucky enough—or perhaps fated enough—to wield them." He paused, his gaze drifting toward Duke Devlin. "But you're right to be cautious. The Numbers are more than just rare cards; they are fragments of a much larger, mysterious puzzle."
"Do you know where they came from?" Ishizu asked her tone more serious now.
Pegasus sighed, his smile fading slightly. "Even I don't know the full truth behind the Numbers. They appeared long after I created Duel Monsters, and their origins are shrouded in myth and speculation. Some say they're linked to an ancient force of chaos."
Ishizu glanced down at her Millennium Necklace and Rod, deep in thought. "If the Numbers are connected to something that can manipulate reality and fate, then their power could be catastrophic in the wrong hands."
Pegasus nodded, his usual jovial tone replaced with a rare hint of solemnity. "Indeed. And as much as I adore watching these duels, we must be vigilant. The Numbers can elevate a duelist beyond their natural abilities, but they can also corrupt those who become too dependent on their power."
Ishizu clenched her fists, knowing that relying on another person's power could be catastrophic. "Then we have to keep an eye on these Number cards, yes?"
Pegasus placed a hand on her shoulder. "For now, we need more information. We must watch closely as the tournament continues and be prepared for whatever comes next."
Pegasus then regained his usual cheer and clapped his hands. "But for now, let's enjoy the next duel, shall we? Who knows what surprises await us!"
As Pegasus wandered off, whistling a tune to himself, Ishizu exchanged a glance with her Millenium Items.
'If the Egyptian Faction created the Millennium Items to seal away the Sealed One, then it's possible that another faction created the Numbers to seal away a powerful darkness.' Ishizu pondered in her mind as the next duel began
Vivian Wong vs Rex Raptor
(I'll be skipping this one since this battle is too basic and boring.)
Vivian cheered as she won the duel while Pegasus smiled at this whole thing. Ishizu was still nervous about this but didn't notice Pegasus's smirk.
'Oh, Ishizu. Always such a worrywart and thinks the supernatural is involved with the numbers. Well, some of them were made, but I made the majority of the numbers, so some may have the power to alter Fate and Fortune, but not reality. Oh, I love messing with the poor girl's mind. Hopefully, Issei can help her loosen up a bit.' Pegasus declared that the next part of the tournament should begin tomorrow so everyone could enjoy themselves for one last feast.
"And with the eighth one found, now we can truly see the power of the Egyptian Gods." Pegasus smiled as he was looking forward to facing Yugi Boy sooner or later.
Scene!
Now, don't worry about the Zexal villains showing up since Pegasus just said that to scare Ishizu. The main villains of the Yugioh and GX will appear since only a select couple of Numbers can actually appear as Duel Spirits, while the others bring out the duelists' ambitions and desires.
Now, I will let the readers decide who shall battle who in the Top Eight!
Yugi Moto
Maximillion Pegasus.
Issei Hyoudou
Fenris
Jasmine Pegasus
Sona Sitri
Duke Devlin
and Vivian Wong.
Let me know in the reviews.
