Chapter 2: A New Student
"Beautiful." Percy breathed before he could fully register his thoughts. By the time he realized he said it out loud it was too late as he heard laughter all around him and the girl it was said too turned a bright red.
"Wow. Smooth as ever Perce." Luke joked, still busy stitching Percy's wounds to stop the now reduced bleeding. "At least know you'll survive if you can still flirt." He said.
Looking around the room, Percy noticed all the food and drinks, as well as the paused dancing game. "I didn't interrupt anything did I?" He asked, looking between Luke and Thalia, "I could come back later If you want." He grinned, earning a light slap on the shoulder from his older cousin.
"Don't even start Jackson. I thought you said you stopped fighting. What would you have done if me and Jason weren't home, huh?" She asked the frustration in her voice clear.
"Sorry Thals. I needed some more cash. If it's the ruined furniture you're worried about I can pay you back." He said motioning to Rachel to give him the duffle bag he earned, which she obliged to, "Take what you need." He said opening the bag to reveal countless stacks of hundred dollar bills. There had to be at least 10K in there, "You guys as well. How much do you want?" He asked looking at the rest of the people in his cousins' house.
"What do you mean?" Grover asked, slightly terrified of Nico and Thalia's cousin.
"How much do you want to keep silent about all of this?" He explained.
"FIVE THOUSAND!" Leo yelled, throwing his arm into the air and rushed forward. He didn't notice Nico's hand aimed at the back of his head, however. "Ouch! Nico, what was that for?!" He whined.
"They'll stay quiet Perce. You can trust them, okay. Just rest up." Nico said, kneeling infront of Percy.
"Hey Death Breath. I didn't see you there. Don't let me stop you guys from your party. All I need is a bit of sleep and I'll be fine. He reassured, "Besides I don't want to worry you guys when you have school tomorrow."
Percy felt his eyelids falling shut but didn't fall asleep. He tried taking a deep steady breath but it hurt, it felt like his lugs where on fire. Thankfully none of the attacks punctured his lungs or anything else he need to survive. He could only thank God that he was still alive. While this wasn't the first time he'd been injured badly, this was still by far the worst he'd been left after a night of fighting.
"You still with us, Kelp Head?" Thalia asked with a shaky breath. He hated having her see him him like this. She was his cousin and he wanted her his other cousins to have a happy life, but he always worried them whenever he came to them for a patch up. How he missed the simpler times when they could just hang out without them wondering if they'll ever see him alive again.
Ye-Yeah... I'm still here P-Pinecone Face." He said, grabbing her hand in his and gave her a small smile.
"Percy, I still need to talk to you about something. Without the others." Rachel said from behind the couch, aiming the last part at everyone that wasn't busy helping Percy.
"Yeah, what is it Rache?" Percy asked once everyone except Thalia, Jason, Nico and Luke left the room.
"I hate to be the one to tell you this, especially now but this can't wait. Your dad informed me earlier today that you've been spending too much time in the underworld and he wants to start integrating you back into normal society starting tomorrow." She explained.
"What do you mean Rachel?"Percy asked, wondering what she meant about 'Normal Society'.
"I mean, you're father has enrolled you at Goode Highschool and you're to set to start attending tomorrow." She said, causing everyone in the room to go wide eyed and start staring at her.
ψ
Annabeth was seriously confused at what was happening. The day started off normal enough, she woke up, got ready for school, WENT to school, was informed of a get together at her best friends house and then finished the rest of the school day. From there she went home and did all her homework (leaving architecture for last of course) before she started getting ready to go to Thalis's house. From there she and the rest of her friends had the time of their lives for a few hours before everything went downhill when her best friend and her cousin's other cousin showed up and now she was in Grace house's kitchen with everyone else, trying to put everything together.
"Who WAS that?" She asked no-one in particular.
"Oh yeah, you guys haven't met Percy before have you." Grover said and when everyone that didn't know the boy looked at him, he continued, "That was Percy Jackson, Thalia, Jason and Nico's cousin. And also son of Poseidon who owns the biggest shipping company in the world. He was my bestfriend when he suddenly disappeared when his mom got sick. When I asked Thalia ad Luke what happened they had no idea. Until a few years later when Luke ran into him, that is. Apparently he got into some illegal shady underworld business where he was forced to fights for his life and if he survived he got some cash." He explained. And everyone just stared at him in shock.
"We need to report this. What if he gets killed or something" Juniper said, everyone else agreeing with her.
"NOO!" Grover yelled, again shocking everyone, "Look I tried to report it but from what Luke told me, it's no use. Some seriously rich people support it and even sponsors some fighters themselves, everytime someone tried to get the police involved it would all just blow over and in some cases the people that reported it would end up in the hospital...and that's if their lucky." Grover warned.
"The only thing we can do is keep quiet. I know Percy, he'll be fine. Trust me, I've seen how he can move," when everyone's jaws were open he explained further, "Not while he fought of course. I'll never go to one of those places. I just saw him and Luke sparring once.
"This is getting way to much." Annabeth sighed. If what Grover was saying was true. Their was nothing they could do to stop it and even if they'd try, they would probably just end up in a ditch somewhere.
"Yeah, I think I'm just going home for tonight. Night guys." Clarisse said. Slowly but surely everyone left. Leaving only Grover and Annabeth, who had fallen asleep on a chair, her head resting on the kitchen counter.
"Hey G-man. It's been awhile." Came a voice from the kitchen doorway. Grover's head snapped up and he saw Percy standing there. He looked tired you'd never guess he had holes stabbed into him a few hours earlier.
Percy walked over to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of milk before taking a seat at the counter. He looked over at Annabeth before continuing, "I guess I gave everyone a scare, huh? Sorry about that. I didn't think anyone would be here except Thals and Jace." He apologized.
"Don't even sweat it Perce. I think everyone was about to get ready to head home anyway. Are you sure you should be walking around though?" Grover asked, worry evident on his face.
"I'm fine Grover. You should head home, get some sleep." Percy answered before looking at Annabeth, "I'll carry her to one of the spare bedrooms."
Grover only nodded his head before standing up and heading to the front door, followed closely by Percy. "See you later, Perce." He said. Walking out the door, towards his car.
Closing the door behind his friend, Percy headed back to the kitchen and gently scooped Annabeth into his arms and made his way towards one of the spare rooms upstairs. Finding an empty one, he layed her down, carefully took of her shoes to not wake her up and then tucked her in. Turning to move out the door he saw Luke watching him with a grin on his face.
"What?" He whispered, narrowing his eyes at his friend.
"Nothing. You should get some rest too. Thalia said you could use the room next to this one." The blond answered, pointing behind him with his thumb, "Guess we have a busy day tomorrow, huh."
"Yeah I guess we do, don't we. I'm gonna get some sleep. Night Luke. And thanks again... I owe you."
With that, Percy walked pat the blond into the room across the hall and shut the door behind him and climbed into bed, trying his best to find a position that doesn't hurt. His last thought before falling asleep was, 'Maybe a normal life wouldn't be so bad'

Annabeth woke up to the sound of someone knocking on her bedroom door. When she opened her eyes she realized... it wasn't her bedroom. Looking around she saw she was in a big room with a warm brown walls decorated with a few bookshelf's and posters of old rock bands. It was a strange combination but she wasn't one to judge. She looked down and saw that she laid in a double bed with a silver comforter covering her.
Wondering where she was she quickly remembered the previous night's events and guessed she was in one of the Grace Mansion's guest rooms. Quickly getting out of bed, and shivering and the sudden cold hitting her exposed skin, she walked to the door and opened it, coming face to face with Jason.
"Hey, just letting you know your breakfast is downstairs. And you can catch a ride to school with us if you want, we're leaving in 30 minutes." Jason said before turning around and knocking on the door across form her.
Not paying any further attention to Jason, she went downstairs towards the kitchen. Before she walked in she heard her name from inside the room.
"I'm betting Percy and Annabeth will get together in the next three months." Luke said with a chuckle, and that caused Annabeth to blush much to her own annoyance.
"What makes you say that. I don't think he even knows her name let alone likes her." Thalia said, the confusion in her voice evident.
"Oh come on Thals, you saw the way he looked at her. And you had to see how gentle he was when her took her to bed last night. The only person I ever saw him get that soft with was Sally. Besides I think it would be good for the both of them. Percy's been through a lot and Annabeth might be the thing he needs to get his life under control. And Annabeth has has a self image problem and really lacks confidence which could change if Percy rubs of on her." Luke answered.
Just then Annabeth felt a hand on her shoulder and jumped. Turning around she stared straight into those sea green eyes from yesterday and again couldn't understand the heat rushing to her cheeks.
"Hey, how did you sleep?" The boy, Percy she reminded herself, asked her. A soft smile on his face.
"I-Uh...good. Great... yeah." She answered. 'DAMN IT CHASE, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU.' She mentally scolded herself.
"Are you okay, your getting red." Percy asked, pressing the back of his hand to her forehead. At that moment her mind went blank and she let out a squeak.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Of course I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be fine. All fine." She sputtered out, taking a step back she tripped over her own feet and fell backward but was quickly caught by Percy who let out a loud hiss of pain. She looked down at his bare torso and saw that he had caught most of her weight with his damaged arm.
She looked up again and caught his eyes for a third time, this time however she didn't look away but rather examined them, they seemed to glow and the color reminded her of the ocean in a thunder storm with a full moon out. His eyes held a fierceness that drew her in, it made her feel like he was always on guard, like she would never get hurt if he was around her. But it also held an anger and ruthlessness like he would think twice to rip you apart if you went after the things and people he loved. And then there was a gentleness that showed her that he would do anything to make his loved ones happy.
So caught up in her examination of the eyes of the one holding her, she barley heard the forced caught to her right. Turning her head she saw that the whole encounter with Percy was in view of the kitchen for all to see. She quickly balanced herself and looked away from Percy to hide yet another blush. She noticed however the smug look Luke sent to Thalia, who just sighed and went back to eating her breakfast.
ψ
The rest of the morning was awkward. Annabeth kept avoiding looking at Percy while they both ate their breakfast. Thankfully when they were done, she could go to school and she'll hopefully never have to see him again. She had no idea why Luke even thought that she would know Percy for any longer than a day. The guy was an illegal underground Pit Fighter. He was a criminal and she didn't want to be caught being anything more than a one time acquaintance with a criminal.
That was her thought process at least, until they headed out the door towards Thalia's car and noticed Luke and Percy in his own car just before they rode of in the direction of school. She froze at the thought of Percy attending school with her. She didn't have anything against him, in fact she wanted to get to know him for some strange reason she couldn't explain. But she had to try and keep her distance, he lead a dangerous life and Annabeth didn't want to get caught up in it
Her fears where confirmed when Annabeth heard Thalia and Jason speaking in the front seats.
"What classes do you think Percy is goin to pick?" Jason asked, turning to look at his sister with a smile on his face.
"All of them probably, everything is right up his ally." Thalia answered with what sounded like both pride and annoyance.
I should probably explain how Goode High works. A few years ago, the government decided to establish a new form of teaching that focus more on practical life skills rather than having to sit in class the whole day and listen to lectures that doesn't help anyone in their day to day life. Some of these new classes are more physical and are taught by former Gold Medal athletes such as Artemis and Apollo who are twin archers and teaches both archery and music, or Hermes who is the worlds current fastest man alive and is the track team coach.
There are classes focused on sharpening the mind where you had to sit in a class at time, but most of the time you had to go into the open world and do research on the subject. These classes include Annabeth's favorite subject, Architecture, which is taught by her own mother Athena Chase and she got to go out into the real world and research some of the best Architecture in the world. And all of it was under funding of donations towards the school from the rich families who has children in the school.
Finally arriving at the school, Annabeth got out of the car and went to greet her friends with Thalia and Jason at her side. She spotted Luke and Percy walking together towards the office and sighed.
'I guess it won't be so bad having him here. At least he seems nice enough. And it helps that he's hot too.' She thought before stopping in her tracks, 'Where did that come from.'
Just then the school bell rang, signaling the start of the school day.
ψ
Percy was making his way to his first class with Luke at his side. From what Luke had told him, it seemed like he would like the school. I mean who wouldn't love having a combat class. Percy was still a little curious about why Luke was nervous when he asked who the combat class teacher was but he put it to the back of his mind. He was more interested in the blond girl with grey eyes. She had actually managed to make him smile. Really smile and not just the façade he put on infront of everyone. The only other person capable of doing that was his mother.
So lost in thought Percy didn't notice they where infront of the rest of his class and being called by his teacher until Luke nudged him in the side. Shaking his head a little to clear his head, Percy looked around and saw the rest of the class looking at him and gave an embarrassed chuckle while rubbing the back of his head. Then he looked at the teacher and his eyes went wide.
"Welcome back to the real world. I'm glad you can join us Percy. Why don't you go stand in Line next to Annabeth over there." Ares said with a smirk.
'Oh no.'
