Pup Problems: Pack Babysitting Disaster
After the Cullen babysitting fiasco, it was now Jacob's pack's turn. Seth, Leah, Embry, and Quil were determined to prove they were far better at this than a bunch of bloodsuckers.
Jacob and Renesmee's cozy log cabin sat on the border between La Push and Cullen territory, nestled deep within the forest where the towering evergreens created a natural barrier between the two worlds. The rhythmic crash of waves against the cliffs in the distance mixed with the rustling of leaves, while the occasional wolf howl echoed through the trees. The wooden walls of the cabin, adorned with a blend of Quileute carvings and elegant Cullen-style décor, glowed warmly under the flickering light of the fireplace. The air carried the scent of pine, damp earth, and a faint trace of Renesmee's floral perfume—creating an illusion of peace. But inside, absolute chaos was unfolding.
Luna, already in her fluffy wolf-pup form, stood on the couch, tail wagging wildly, eyes gleaming with mischief. The four wolves stood in a defensive formation around her, as if they were about to engage in battle.
"She's small," Quil said confidently, arms crossed. "We can handle this."
Leah snorted. "You said the same thing about Emily's cupcakes, and we all remember how that turned out."
Seth, always the optimist, crouched down to Luna's level, grinning. "Okay, Luna! Time for fun Uncle Seth to—"
Before he could finish, Luna let out an excited bark and leaped straight at his face, knocking him onto his back with a loud thud.
"ACK—SHE'S GOT ME!" Seth flailed as tiny wolf paws bounced on his chest.
Embry doubled over laughing. "Oh man, she took you down in two seconds! Jacob's kid is ruthless."
Leah groaned, rubbing her temples. "Alright, new plan. Tire her out."
Quil smirked. "Oh, I got this." He turned to Luna, wiggling his fingers. "Who's a good girl? Who wants to chase Uncle Quil?"
Luna's ears perked up.
"Uh, Quil," Embry started, already sensing disaster. "I don't think—"
Too late. Quil took off running around the cabin, laughing as he zig-zagged between furniture. Luna, thrilled by the challenge, bolted after him at a shocking speed, skidding across the wooden floor and nearly taking out a chair.
"She's GAINING ON ME!" Quil shrieked. "Screw this, I'm phasing!"
With a blur of movement, Quil leapt mid-stride, his body shifting effortlessly into his large russet wolf form. He skidded slightly, but regained his footing just as Luna, still in her tiny wolf-pup form, barked in excitement and tried to tackle him.
Seth, finally recovering, propped himself up on an elbow. "Dude, you have super speed! RUN!"
Quil let out a panicked yelp, his large russet wolf form skidding as he barely dodged a lamp at the last second. He huffed loudly, his paws scrambling against the wooden floor as he tried to gain traction. If wolves could scream, he absolutely would be right now.
Embry wheezed with laughter. "She's hunting him like a deer."
Realizing Quil was barely keeping up, Embry groaned and stood up. "Alright, alright, I'll help." He took a few steps back, then phased as well, his dark gray wolf form easily towering over Luna. He let out a playful growl, lowering his front legs in an invitation to play.
Luna, thrilled by the challenge, yipped happily and darted between them, her little paws moving at lightning speed as she zigzagged unpredictably. She faked left, then bolted right, slipping underneath Embry's belly before nipping playfully at Quil's tail. Quil let out a surprised snort, jumping away as Luna barked in triumph.
Just as Quil reached the kitchen, Luna launched herself into the air with an impressive leap, twisting midair like a tiny furry acrobat. Quil tried to dodge, but she collided with his side, sending them both tumbling. There was a loud crash as Quil skidded into the cabinets, knocking over a stack of dishes, followed by a resounding thud as Luna landed squarely on his head.
Embry, still in wolf form, froze, his ears perked in alarm as the sound of silverware clattering to the floor echoed through the cabin.
Silence.
Then, from behind the counter, Quil's muffled voice groaned, "I think she won."
Leah facepalmed. "I swear, I am surrounded by idiots."
Luna trotted back into view, still in pup form, tail wagging proudly. Quil, dazed, peeked over the counter, hair a mess. "She fights dirty."
Just when things seemed to settle, a new disaster arose.
Luna, now back in human form, sat on the floor where she had landed after shifting, her chubby legs kicking as she babbled happily. Seth, still eager to redeem himself, picked her up and placed her gently in a chair at the kitchen table. Seth, still eager to redeem himself, smiled. "Aw, she looks so calm now. Maybe she's hungry."
As if on cue, Luna reached for a bowl of mashed potatoes sitting on the table… and promptly threw a handful straight at Embry's face.
Embry blinked as the potatoes slowly slid down his cheek. Quil howled with laughter. "FOOD FIGHT!"
Before anyone could react, Quil grabbed a handful of rice and hurled it at Embry, who ducked just in time for it to splatter against the wall. Luna squealed with delight, clapping her hands before launching another fistful of mashed potatoes straight into Seth's unsuspecting face. The thick, starchy mess dripped down his chin as he sputtered, blinking rapidly.
"NO, NOT A FOOD FIGHT—" Leah started, but it was already too late.
Seth, in the chaos, grabbed a handful of peas and flung them at Quil. "For the pack!"
Quil ducked and retaliated with a piece of bread. Luna, giggling wildly, clapped her hands and flung more potatoes. Within seconds, the kitchen looked like an all-out battlefield. Peas rolled across the floor like tiny green marbles, globs of gravy dripped from the ceiling, and a rogue dinner roll smacked against the window with an unfortunate splat. Embry, determined not to lose, grabbed an entire ladle of mac and cheese and catapulted it toward Quil, who yelped as the gooey mess splattered across his chest. Seth, recovering from his potato assault, retaliated with a scoop of corn, aiming directly at Embry's head.
Luna, the instigator of the chaos, cackled as she waved her tiny arms, kicking her chubby legs excitedly. She reached for the butter dish, but Leah, finally snapping, intercepted her with a glare. "Nope. That's enough destruction for one night."
Leah, standing untouched in the corner, sighed and crossed her arms. "I hate all of you."
Just as Embry was about to launch a spoonful of gravy at Seth, the unmistakable crunch of tires on gravel sent a shockwave through the room. The headlights from Jacob and Renesmee's car flashed through the window, illuminating the absolute carnage that had taken place inside the cabin.
Quil, mid-throw with a half-eaten biscuit, froze like a deer in headlights. Seth, still wiping mashed potatoes from his face, swallowed hard. Embry quickly—but not subtly—tossed his gravy-covered spoon behind him.
Luna, blissfully unaware of the impending doom, squealed in excitement and banged her spoon against the table like a war drum, sending bits of food flying.
Leah exhaled sharply, pinching the bridge of her nose. "We are so screwed."
Jacob's voice echoed from the front door. "We're home!"
The four of them collectively panicked. Quil frantically grabbed a towel, only to realize it was already soaked in gravy. Seth tried, and failed, to sweep a pile of peas under the table with his foot. Embry picked up a plate, stared at it like it held all the answers, then just set it back down as if that somehow fixed things.
The front door creaked open.
Jacob and Renesmee stepped inside, took one look at the kitchen, and stopped dead in their tracks. Renesmee's mouth dropped open, while Jacob's eye twitched at the disaster.
Silence.
Then Luna, still sitting proudly on the table, let out a victorious giggle and threw a final piece of bread. It bounced off Jacob's chest and landed at his feet.
Jacob let out a slow, deep sigh, rubbing his temples. "What. The hell. Happened?"
Quil cleared his throat. "Uh… she won."
