Chapter 3
Kamina bent over the chief, frowning. He hummed, rubbing his chin at the sight of that fat boss's unconscious form, not moving and not yelling like a minute ago. The big boss himself, who loved to yell at Kamina, loved hitting him, withholding his dinner, and generally being a pain in his ass, was down for the count.
But how to be sure…
Kamina stuck out his tongue, withdrawing it to see. No reaction. Sticking it out again and hopping like a crazy man, nothing. Jumping with his hands wiggling beside his head, cackling at the chief and jabbing him in his jowly face. He didn't even twitch. Another poke at his nose, and zero insults. Success!
He looked around for a bit of mud already on the ground, he was gonna draw on that jerk's forehead! All kinds of stupid marks, see how high and mighty he acted then! So many years of his attitude were getting payback today!
Then he realized what being still meant.
"So?" His eyes flickered to the outsiders and stretched himself while the four exchanged a quick glance. "Did ya kill the old bozo?" His hand descended to the grip of his katana as he asked, his eyes flickering back and forth.
Everyone else had fled to their holes, cowering away in the darkness. Typical…. Wait no. Lil Simon stayed, hiding behind a nearby rock. He was quivering like a mole-piglet but he stayed put.
Just what he expected of the little fellow. His brother would become a real man yet!
"Cause, as much as I hate the old man…" He straightened himself up to his full height, a small part of him irked that he was still smaller than the dark one with the big pole. And the old serious looking guy. "I am the protector of Giha village. The real Man around here."
Just because no one took him seriously in that role didn't mean that he wasn't still.
The old gray haired guy rose an eyebrow, though doing little else. "You just saw a guy three times as big as you get knocked out by a ray gun and you wanna pick a fight with that?" There was… amusement in his voice?
Nevermind that!
"Of course!" He threw an arm to his left and his right, his wooden sword clutched in his right hand. "I AM KAMINA! THE ONE WHO SHALL PIERCE THE VERY HEAVENS THEMSELVES! IF YOU ARE ENOUGH OF A MAN THEN EVEN YOUR RAYS WON'T STOP ME!"
"And as such, I'll have to fight you guys if you hurt him." He winked at the hot blonde in the middle of their group. "Even if you got a hot babe with you. I'll be gentle with her though." No real man beat up a woman!
He expected them to be overawed by his dazzling display of confidence and strength… instead the old man simply grinned openly and shrugged. "Don't worry, Kamina, the chief will have one hell of a headache once he wakes up…." he stepped forward, reaching to lay his hand on Kamina's head, mashing his open palm on his hair. He rubbed away, adding a little pat to sooth his nerves.
Kamina's hair was being ruffled. How dare he do that!? Messing up his hard earned hairdo, tangling his blue hair, making it a flat mess. Oh he was going to kick his ass for this!
"But he will be fine." And he even had the nerve to not even look into his direction when-
"Hey, knock it off." Coming to his rescue was Simon, frowning and hunched over, holding his drill to the side without taking his hands off it. "Ah, Kamina? He's just being friendly. That's all." He sent him a look, full of unease but showing that he wanted to back down.
"Yep, I am just being peachy." The man looked around, before hunching down before Simon, his voice turning considerably softer and warmer. "So, this is that village of yours? Looks….. Comfy." He especially eyed the different cave houses they had built.
"It's…. Not really. We have to rebuild things constantly because of earthquakes and the like." Simon looked down on the floor, instead of standing his ground. And he just stepped in too, Kamina had to help him work on that.
"Why live underground then?" Asked the glasses wearing guy with the short hair. He looked like he spent all his time sewing clothes or something, not getting down and dirty like the diggers. Though he wasn't skinny or anything, he probably had some muscle on him. From what or how he had no idea.
"Uh, I dunno. We've always been here. The chief says the surface doesn't exist." Simon shrugged. He had to have known what saying that would do.
Kamina puffed up, all that kept him from exploding was trying to keep his cool for that blonde.
"That is a bunch of pigmole crap though! It totally does!" A massive grin split his face at the proclamation, as always when he got to talk about his da'. "Because my father went up there! He reached the surface and told me I should follow him one day!" Again, he raised his fingers to the stone sky. "And I won't stop at the surface either, no! I will escape this pit, I will surpass my father, all that is before me and pierce the very heavens!" Yes, he repeated it, but damn it. He was a badass and he could repeat badass phrases.
"Also, you guys exist, so you must be from the surface. So you know, that is obvious." He shrugged. To be honest, he could have started with that, but that was lame.
"Well, we are from 'a' surface sure. " The man's grin matched his, showing at least some respect to his manliness. "Though it's more accurate to say that we've pierced these heavens already. It's harder than it looks."
"Eh, I don't care how hard something is." He took a couple steps back and snatched up Simon, ignoring his brothers protesting squeak. "My bro Simon and I will grit our teeth and break right through it!" Simon was an expert in that with his drill after all.
If only there was a way to combine manliness and drills.
"Well, technically" Began the hot blonde babe, causing the others to turn around to her for a moment. "We are also from a 'pit'. Chayenne mountain is pretty deep underground." She looked around, thumping her index finger against her chin. "Bit bigger than your pit though."
Kamina's smile flipped upside down. Then he stood up straight, thumping the sword against his shoulder. His eyes narrowed. Oh he didn't scowl, she was still a looker, but now any and all urge to hit on her was gone. A thin growl left him, anger taking the place of sheer disappointment. Internally he felt like screaming, but on the outside he played it like a pro.
"Not cool to play with a Man's feelings like that." He wasn't crying, definitely not. Anyone who claimed he did was getting their teeth punched out.
He thought she was the one, but the universe was a cold and cruel place.
The ground began rumbling without warning, beginning as a quiver in the stone that quickly grew into a foundation cracking quake. Kamina went still, quickly checking on the villagers. As expected they were diving to cover, screaming their heads off in a panic.
While the newcomers were spacing their legs out and peeking at the roof with worry, that was entirely unimportant at the moment.
Simon was flinching, looking around and shrinking in on himself as a whimpering cry left him. The poor boy was terrified out of his mind, barely able to keep standing. He had strength enough to lurch towards Kamina, snatching his wrist and yanking hard, trying to drag him towards the nearest tunnel.
"Bro, we gotta go! Before we get crushed!" He shrieked in terror.
In contrast Kamina was deathly calm, gritting his teeth. "No way. I don't run away."
"Don't be stupid kid." The older guy lectured, giving up and heading for cover, though not before helping a couple villagers move ahead of him. His friends helped, prioritizing the others before themselves.
Simon was gaping, showing terror in his eyes. "Kamina!"
He sighed, grabbing his shoulders and pulling him into a hug as the ground continued to rumble. Kamina was so worked up by everything here that he forgot, that was stupid of him. Instead he held on tight, stopping Simon from fidgeting so much, waiting for it to pass. Gravel from the ceiling fell on his shoulders, not Simon.
Still, he was only letting go of Simon when he was sure it was safe. The boy was reluctant to let go but Kamina pried his hands off, being relatively gentle but he wasn't letting him hang on. He wasn't going to man up clinging to him like that.
Kamina would never admit it to anybody, but he couldn't look up to Simon when he was like that. On some level…. Even he was afraid of quakes. It was not something one could punch away or intimidate with a properly manly flex. And those had killed so many people here.
Even small ones could collapse recently made tunnels and cut those off who were in there. The big ones made rescue operations almost impossible too.
Just another reason why they shouldn't stay underground when there was a perfectly safe surface for them to live in.
Still, he didn't run or cower.
He stood proud as stones fell down around him, his shoulders angled just enough to shield simon, he was showing -
Kamina refused to flinch when that big guy among the outsiders ran up to them, moving fast considering his size. In one swoop he scooped up the boys in his arms, dragging them towards the cover of a nearby cave, ignoring how they both squirmed.
He was more than a little irritated that his manly display was stopped so easily, but the important part was that Simon wasn't resisting either. He needed to be more assertive, but he had a better head on his shoulders. If he thought this was a good idea then it was.
By the entrance of the cave the old guy was waving people in, helping a girl dart under cover before helping the pair join in. It wasn't cool to be hanging out with girls in a cave, when he could be showing off his fearlessness and how cowardly they were for being down here.
As usual the quakes tapered off after a few seconds. The walls went quiet, some dust speckled from the ceiling, and he could let himself relax a bit. It was over.
Simon let out a breath and slumped, Kamina didn't let himself show it but he was glad it was done too. He was able to push Simon aside so he wasn't at risk, straightening his posture so he could stand at his full height. Now that things were calming down he had a bone to pick with these guys.
Starting with that old guy glancing over the villagers, visibly relieved at the sight of the unharmed people as he leaned against the wall.
"Alright, sweep the area, make sure that everybody is okay. After that check the… what?" He paused, frowning at Kamina coming up to him.
"Alright you…" …he just realized he never actually got his name, or any of theirs for that matter. How was he supposed to talk down to him if he didn't know what to call this bozo?
"Colonel Jack O'Neill, Stargate Command." He took advantage of his temporary silence to speak up, putting him on the backfoot. Of course it didn't end, he pointed to the others. "That's Captain Samantha Carter-" he indicated the hot blonde who crushed his dreams, currently cleaning a cut on a guy's arm. "Daniel Jackson-" the soft looking guy doing double takes at a woman's ragged cloak. "And that's Teal'c-" last was the big guy gazing at the ceiling with a frown. Or was that his default face?
Well whatever, Kamina swung the sword to smack on his shoulder, leveling a confident grin at Jack. A weird name but no matter, now he knew his challenger.
Kamina rolled his shoulders. "So then, its time to-"
The walls rumbled again, shaking harder than a minute ago. Kamina grunted as his footing threatened to give out on him, he had to kick his foot out to keep from falling. Again and again, tremors went through the cave network, together with what sounded more and more like huge rocks falling down and pounding the earth above them…
Somewhere to their right.
"T-this is no earthquake!" Simon squealed, his little bro's voice quivering with fear, though he was loud enough for Jack to hear him.
"What?!" He pushed his hands against a nearby wall to stabilize himself, while grabbing the weird metal thing at his side. "What do you mean this is no earthquake?"
"He is right! The tremors are all coming from-" the soft looking guy with the glasses never got to finish the sentence, as right then and there, the sky was caved in.
In an instant, a massive wave of dust and dirt flooded through the main cave, flooding their sights for just a moment, and forcing everyone to duck in cover to protect themselves from the literal rain of small rocks.
But the cloud of dirt was not enough to entirely conceal the utterly humongous form that was rising up from where it had quite decisively crushed what at one point had been the remnants of their village… a couple generations ago before things became to unstable over there.
"Hahahah! I knew my sensors weren't going crazy when they picked up that energy signature!"
Clearing the dust with a swing of a tremendously huge club, the grinning face of the white colored giant met the light. Although the yellowish sheen was blinding, it more than illuminated the sight of the colossal beast. Its skin was clearly hard with how boulders rained off it, its elongated nose perched above rows of teeth as large as Kamina was tall. Curved horns rose on top of its skull, poking upwards to the surface it came from.
It had no neck, waist, or body, instead stubby arms and legs were joined right to its head. They were comically short for how big its head was, yet still powerful enough to heft its bulk out of the hole it made, still strong enough to heft its tunnel sized club up like a toy.
"Now, looks like I got some bugs to squash!"And it started swinging.
Rocks were pulverized by the force of the first blow, the wide arc taking out whatever remained of the bridges. Stone went flying, smacking into the entire facing of the villages, crushing homes and tunnels wherever it hit. Screams filled the air, people were scrambling to hide.
Kamina saw the carnage, and grinned. He took a dusty breath and forced his grip on the katana to steady, tightening his hold for stability as much as for his nerves. This was his chance. He hoped Simon was watching, he was about to show his bro how it was done.
But before he could declare a challenge to that ugly mug, that Jack guy shoved him into the wall, charging out there.
"Covering fire! Get those people out of here!" Jack shouted before hefting the little square at the giant.
The crackle that thing made was astonishingly loud for how tiny it was, blazing with a chatter that seemed like it was prodding his inner ears. Sparks rained across the giant's skin, a loud grunt echoing in the cavern as it turned to the attacker, a deep growl sounding over the hammer sounds. It was flinching a bit, one eye squinting at him.
A few seconds later another joined it, from Carter rushing out from the cave once she moved people inwards. The last two were only a little slower, Daniel the glasses man raised the weapon like the others, opening up as Teal'c raised his staff.
Over the rapid pounding of those weapons Kamina heard a whip-crack sound, an orange bolt raced from the end of the staff towards the monster, smacking it on the nose with a puff of smoke. That had a bigger impact, it grunted louder and hefted the club.
Teal'c immediately took off running, evading the club that slammed into the ground where he stood, the sheer force behind it sending both him and Daniel into the air, though both managed to land on their feet with surprising ease as both Jack and Sam opened up with their own weird metal things, spewing streams of metal pebbles at it, blinking all over it's hull in flashes of sparks.
That was flashy but not all that effective, and it didn't do too much to actually get it's attention.
They were hiding too much, taking cover during their attacks…. It wouldn't do enough to stop the other two from getting flattened in a moment.
"Hey you! I'm talking to you ugly!" His fingers dug into a boulder, about the size of his torso, that had been shaken free when the big shark metal monster had bashed its way into the pit.
The rock weighed easily as much as a pigmole, meaning when it crashed into its face, it did so with enough force to make it take a step back, knocking even one of its teeth out.
Kamina had caught it mid swing, ensuring that the two otherworlders were just barely missed, the blow instead ripping away half a dozen of cave homes, exposing the people cowering inside.
He froze for just a second, then kicked the sword back into his grip. Taking off running, he hopped on top of a boulder and bellowed at the top of his lungs.
"Hey hey hey hey! You got a lot of guts showing up here and trashing the place!" As he hoped the big ugly swiveled its eyes towards him, ignoring the villagers and the outlanders. The other two peppering it on the joints threatened to grab its attention, making Kamina yell louder. "But that ends here! You have never faced anything like me before!"
"Wah? Who the hell are you?"It sounded confused, good. It wasn't looking at the fleeing villagers or the pair getting to cover.
"FOR YOU SE-" He only managed to evade the shark thing's claw swipe by throwing himself aside, his face crashing into the ground, allowing him to convert the faceplant into a roll that sent him back onto his ass and allowing him to jump up onto his feet.
"WHAT THE HELL! HOW DARE YOU INTERRUPT A MAN DURING HIS EPIC SPE-" He was forced to repeat the previous maneuver, this time to dodge a club hit. While he knew that being hit in the face and or head was good for the moral character of a man, the blatant respect being shown-!
With gritted teeth, he pulled out his glorious Katana out of it's sheath, allowing it's blinding light to enlighten this pit for the first time in many -
Fresh blasts nearly knocked him over, puffs of smoke sending little chunks of metal flying through the air, one cutting into his arm. The monster staggered with a loud groan, jerking back with chunks and even busted patches on its armor. Kamina was just as confused as the monster, until he spotted Sam peeking her head up and throwing what looked like a rock.
An identical blast erupted when it hit, making it snarl and turn its bulk in her direction. Whatever those rocks were, he wanted some.
Kamina shook his head, gritting his teeth. This was his moment damnit! How was he supposed to look cool and save the village like this?
Things got better and better when fresh shots rang out, louder and with a weird electrical sounding ring to them, coming from above. He peeked up, blinking at the sight of a figure swinging in on a rope over the monster, slinging shot after shot into its bulk. Those had slightly more effects than the outworlders, but he wasn't interested in comparing them.
Sweeping past a swat, the figure leapt off her rope, hitting the ground to slide towards him butt first. A butt in hot pants, a tiny bra, and a scarf, her long red hair whipping around as she shot him a scowl. A very big butt. Her glasses gleamed in the light, showing off her beautiful, furious eyes.
"Get back you idiot!"
Second chances were real. Kamina's heart and pride were wounded by the revelation of that mega hot blonde pit chick, but as if he was graced by the holy spirits, another babe dropped into his life. Literally. This day was promising-
"Go! Move!" She fired just as a fresh blast erupted behind the thing, causing the whole monster to collapse with a pained roar.
She took off running, Kamina was right on her heels with the katana's backside resting on his shoulders.
"I dunno who else is down here, but that thing isn't done. I'm gonna circle around and nail it in the eye." She barked as she sprinted.
"Hey babe, come here often?" Kamina grinned as he ran. She didn't have the mature look of Samantha, but man did she flaunt her tits and rear!
Now if only the older blonde dressed appropriately for a size comparison…
The girl sent him an incredulous look for a second while diving into the ruins of someone's house, morphing into a scowl as he hunched beside her. "What is wrong with you?"
"You're gonna slug it out huh? Lemme help ya." Kamina offered while the stones beyond their cover shifted, the monster sounded like it was getting up.
Hearing shifting rocks closer by made him glance up, and scowl at his moment being stolen yet again. Jack and Sam were scrambling into their cover, peeking through the gaps before they slammed their backs on the walls. Huffing and strained, both needed a couple looks to realize the new girl was there.
"Just get out of the shower or something?" Jack demanded, as he was shoving a metal rod into his weapon, the blonde mimicking him. Both eee sending repeated glances at the metal giant, the mix of the light balls the big boobed redhead's shots apparently having managed to actually damage it, given its complaints as well as the way it was pounding on it's own right arm, which was flopping around.
"It's no use, colonel. Our bullets aren't even scratching it and I'm out of grenades!" Sam had her teeth pressed together in clear frustration, though her eyes were obviously dancing over the damage the big metal stick of the newcomer had inflicted.
"Yeah, with those peashooters you ain't gonna do much. Don't even have the numbers for a proper mass of fire either." Miss stripper commented, choosing to ignore Jack's comment.
"Hey, did I mention that you are fully my type!?" Kamina added. She also ignored his words. Rude!
Didn't she see that he was trying to hit on her?
"Hmmm. And you can take it out?" Behind them there was a noise akin to stone rubbing across stone, only even more irritating as metal shards exploded out of the things arm in a miniature shower, before its arm began to move again, the giant figure testingly rolling its shoulders and limbs.
"If I can get a good shot at the cockpit at the Gunman's back off- wait!" Her eyes widened as Jack and Sam nodded to each other, before both jumped out, weapons free.
Kamina gritted his teeth. Twice was enough, he wasn't having his moment stolen for a third time! He leapt after them, sword at his side while they hopped around, taking aim at the monster.
There he froze, only for a second. Just the amount of time he needed to see how the big monster was upright, drawing its club overhead, and began swinging it down right at them. Too fast to dodge, too big to stop.
The club hit the ground and pulverized the stone, sending chunks of rock flying into the air as it imprinted into the floor.
Kamina gasped, taking several stuffy breaths as he processed the fact that he was still. He was aching, his head felt funny, was there a water leak on his neck? But he was breathing, so… that was good? How..
"Arg, damn." Kicking his side was a thickly padded boot, from Jack. It was dim, but there was enough light from the cracked ceiling that he could see. Shifting his weight, he tried slide himself to a more comfortable-
"Ah!"
Kamina landed on a coarse pad, poking several hard bits of equipment, resting on top of something so magnificently soft… he looked up to see Sam scowling at him. "Oh hey, oops."
Sam shoved him into the wall, grumbling something under her breath. Kamina didn't care, maybe it was the probable head wound he had but he felt on top of the world. Even seeing Jack scowling too didn't dampen his joy.
What did was a drill poking out of a hole, followed by Simon's smiling head. "Bro, I'm so glad you're okay!"
"Yeah, never better." Kamina sent him a thumbs up.
"How did you, never mind. We need a way out of here, can you dig us an exit?" Jack shifted upright in the tiny space.
