The rain battered the edge of the riverclan camp heavy and dark, as the bank withered slowly into the raging river. A dark brown tabby slipped down the bank, his fur drenched wet as he perked his ears. The pounding of the rain unable to break through the loud pounding of his heart, his mouth open as he searched for a trance of that warm and soothing smell he desperately needed.
His tail whisked through the ferns as his steps quickened across the sands, his heart racing through his chest. His eyes darted from left to right for a sign of life in the dead and empty camp, long since already evacuated by his clan further up the territory to safety. All except for two, two who he could never misplace in a crowd of cats at a gathering or evacuation.
His amber eyes matched the beating of his heart as he crouched to peer into the brambles, his claws flexing into the ground as he clenched his jaws as the area he couldn't imagine anywhere else she could be. As he quickly rose up onto his paws and raced through the clearing his heart weighing down in his chest as the dread of what could happen just pushed him even further.
As his paws skidded his spirits lifted as he looked up to see a russet colored she-cat up on a tree, her ears perked up as she saw the dark brown tabby. Not a word was spoken as she turned her muzzle to look further down the river. As the dark brown tabby looked down his heart dropped.
Clinging onto a fallen branch a tiny dark brown tabby, his little paws struggling to hold on. His cries nearly drowned out in the rain. His weak paws clearly about to fail on the poor tom, as tiredness looks to be taking hold of him. The reddish brown she-cat was on a branch that wasn't far enough to reach him in the raging river.
With determination of his ancestors flowing like new fire in his veins, he jumps straight into the river without a second thought. The current threatened to sweep him away, but never once did he give up on his mission to save the young kit. His head breaking the surface just to be brought back down by the current.
His claws digging into the bark of the branch which was caught in between two rocks, as he climbed up to grab onto the scruff of the young kit, just as his small strength gave up on him. The dark brown tabby prepared himself before he jumped back into the river, swimming across towards the bank where the she-cat was waiting for him.
The dark brown tabby found the current starting to sweep out his paws under him, as he struggled to keep his kit's head above the waves. His limbs shaking as he was slowly getting pushed further down the river. His heart was pounding and determined to get back to the bank. His teeth clenching but not harming the young one in his mouth, the russet colored she-cat jumping into the water to assist him.
But the dark brown tabby strength was failing, using what he could he could he gave his kit back to his love. He pushed her back to the bank as his eyes began to droop, determined to get them back to safety even if he knew he couldn't reach it himself. His kicks were getting weaker as he watched his mate turn to take their kit back to the riverbank. As soon as she got there, her head turned and ears perked up. But the dark brown tabby disappeared down the river, as she looked left and right looking for any sign of him.

Hi there, so glad to be back to writing for what feels like a millenia. Now I wanted to address something that I have noticed a trend with my other stories, that being that there are no character growth or changes in time for the majority of them. This will not be the case for this story however, i can well assure you. The title "Lost in the Water" has a greater meaning that goes beyond just what had happened in this prologue. There is so much that i have planned for this story that has to happen before the end, and I am determined to make it all the way there his time.
I hope you all will enjoy this journey going forward as much as I will, unfortunately I can only promise one chapter per week due to personal reasons. The Hiatus i took will be worth it, but i have decided to take away the oc submission for reasons i won't disclose.
Best of luck!
