Ladies, Gentlemen, and Non-binary peeps, I present you with the first chapter of The Devil's Garden!

This is my One Piece fanfic that adds my own OC into the mix. I first thought of this character and story a while ago and wanted to have some semblance of writing experience to start writing this.

So I hope you all enjoy it!

I don't own One Piece, Oda does and he would never give me the rights so I only got Lyson.

"Once upon a time, the world was ruled by powerful demons. These demons were mystical beings, having magic that allowed them to do the impossible. These demons sought to enslave all under them, humans, fishmen, or giants. One day these races raged war upon the demons wanting to become free of their oppression. The war lasted for 100 years until a human who was only known by the name "D" was born with the ability to kill demons. He could wield weapons black as night and could end any demon's life with a single blow. He became the turning point for the war and with his companions, slew demon after demon until there was one left, the King of the Demons. Their fight lasted weeks, but the hero was able to defeat the king and ended the war. Before passing away, the King performed one last spell and his words instilled fear into the hero:

"One day, my brethren will soon be reborn into this world! We will never die until every life in this world has been extinguished! MARK MY WORDS, D!"

"Wooooooow." a little boy with lilac hair said, eyes wide, snuggled into bed. "Did the demons ever come back, Auntie?" he asked.

A woman with long brown hair and warm brown eyes sits at the end of the bed with an old leather-bound book in her hand. She shakes her head and answers, "Not nonight kiddo."

"Pleeeeeaase?" The boy asks, giving the woman baby-doll eyes.

The woman smiles as she shuts the book in her hands and kisses the boy on the head, "I don't think so sweetie. Why not ask your Dad when he comes tomorrow? I'm sure he has a LOT more stories for you from his work."

At the mention of the boy's father the boy's eyes light up and he jumps up under his blanket, "Daddy's coming tomorrow?" he asked excitably, jumping up and down the bed.

The woman blinks once, realizing what she said. She soon grabs the hyperactive boy and puts a finger on the boy's lips to hush him, "Don't tell anyone I told you that. It'll be our little secret."

"Okay Auntie," the boy lays back in the bed, "but I want more stories and I won't tell!"

A slight vein bulges from the women's forehead, "Cheeky brat. You're lucky I like cute kids." She said, pinching and pulling the boy's cheek, much to his dismay.

"Noooooooo, I'm sowwy!" the boy tries to say with his stretched out face.

"If you're sorry then sleep already, you do wanna see your Dad, right?"

"Yes, Auntie!" The boy immediately lays to his side and closes his eyes as his aunt blows out the single candle that's illuminating the room.

"Goodnight Lyson." the woman whispers before shutting the door behind her.

"OI! Wake up!"

Tired eyes opened as it was assaulted with the bright light of the sun. When he gets up from his position, he looks down at the person shouting at him. Looking down from the crow's nest of a ship, the person yawned as they stretched out their body before jumping off, much to the surprise of the people on board. Landing on the ground, the people of the ship saw a young man, about 18 years old, short lilac hair slicked back, and tanned skin. His outfit comprised of a short red coat lined with metal buckles, a white shirt underneath, black pants, and matching boots. On his hip, a circular leather pouch laid on his right side and a leather book holder on his left side.

"Are we here yet?" He asked one of the men on board.

"We're should be arriving at Loguetown within the hour, so start packing up." the man who woke him up replied.

"Great!" The teen walked across the deck and entered the storage room where a series of books, notebooks, and a medium-sized tin box laid in the corner. The teen took one of the old satchels that were hanging off the wall and began stuffing the books in it while carefully placing the tin box inside. As he's putting down the tin box, the boat suddenly rocks forward and he almost loses his grip on the box but manages to catch it before it hits the ground.

"Phew"

He checks over his belongings one more time before leaving the storage area, swiping an orange from one of the many crates of supplies and hides it behind his back as heads above deck. When he arrives there, the boat is already docked and a group of men approaches him, the captain being a burly man with a pipe between his teeth and a scowl on his face.

"Okay brat, we got you here, now pay up!" The man spats as he holds out his hand.

"Payment?" The teen asks, tilting his head. "I already paid for the trip upfront."

"Yes you paid for the trip, but what about the food we gave-"

"I brought my own water and rations, I didn't get a bit of your food." the teen interrupted.

"W-well," the captain hesitates before shouting, "I'm the captain of this ship, and as long as you are on this ship, you must follow my orders and I order you to pay up! Or else you want a fight?" The men surrounding him begin to brandish their weapons and the captain cracks his knuckles.

The teen simply narrows his eyes and eyes the dock and the men blocking him from escaping. He sighs and tells the captain, "Okay fine, I don't want a fight, please. Just, take the money..."

The captain smirks, "Well, finally you're seeing things my way, now why don't you just hand it over-"

"Only if you can catch it!" The teen reaches in his coat and pulls something out and throws it into the air, causing every eye on the deck to look up at it. The position of the sun makes the object look like a black blur. The crewmembers scramble to catch the object, but the one who does the deed is the captain himself.

"Haha! Nice to know you see who's in char-" He pauses mid-sentence when he sees what he has in hands.

An orange.

The captain's face grows red as he looks up, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO PULL!?", but realizes that he is yelling at nobody. The captain looks around wildly for the purple-headed teen. "Where the hell is he?!" he aggressively asks his crew. the crewmembers all look around as well, realizing that the teen escaped while they were all distracted.

The teen calmly walks into town, whistling a tune as he travels through the busy crowds.

"Loguetown, the town of beginnings and ends. The island where the King of the Pirates was born and the place he died." the teen thinks. "I hope the rumors about a Logia user in East Blue are true, and a Marine to boot."

He walks by the various stores but stops in front of a supply store called "Cici Supplies" and walks in. The scent of paper, spices, and tempered glass assault his nose as he looks around and sees stacks of books, rolls of parchment paper, dozens of globes, and bottles of exotic spices. At the other end of the store, a middle-aged woman sat behind a desk, too busy writing something down on the counter to notice him. The teen walks up to the counter and the woman spares him a glance before returning to her work. He takes a look around picking out a new black satchel, some cartography paper, two bottles of ink, glass vials, and some vitamin supplements. The teen walks up to the counter to pay and sees that the woman behind the counter is busy with a crossword puzzle, with only one line blank left.

"Strain."

The woman looks up at the teen as he peers at her and the newspaper in her hand. "Excuse me?"

"Seven down. 'To pour out/to exert oneself'. The answer is strain." The teen answers, laying out the supplies. The woman looks at the paper, back at him, and then back at the paper before filling in the blank.

"Well, I'll be..." She says with a satisfied look, "Looks like you just got a discount, my friend. That was bothering me all day. The name's Cici. Now, that'll be 40,000 Beli."

As the teen ruffles up some money, Cici begins some small talk, "Well, I haven't seen you around here, what brings you here to Loguetown?" she asks as he's counting the money.

"Research."

"Oh, are you a scholar? Makes sense of how sharp you are."

He gives a light chuckle, "No, I'm more of a scientist. My research revolves around a very special topic. I'm heading back to the Grand Line to continue it."

"The Grand Line!" Cici exclaims, "That place is dangerous! Almost no ship that goes there ever comes back. I hear that the weather patterns are hell on the sea and hundreds of pirates with high bounties reside there!"

The teen winks at her before handing her the correct amount, "Don't worry, I'm smart enough to know what I'm doing." he says as he puts his supplies in his new bag.

"Oh, I almost forgot." he faces Cici again, "I'm actually looking for a certain someone in his town. Does the name 'Smoker' ring a bell to you?"

Cici lights up at the mention of the name, "Oh, Smoker! He's the marine who turned this town around!"

"Turned it around how?" the teen asks, an eyebrow raised.

"Well, a couple of years ago this town use to be a breeding ground for many up-and-coming pirates. Seeing that this island is the last island between East Blue and the Grand Line. Imagine dozens upon dozens of pirates crawling around this place. Then the Marines decided to station Captain Smoker in this town and crime is at an all-time low! Every pirate that comes through this town on their way to the Grand Line has been arrested by Smoker."

"Sounds like a great man." The teen states, "Is he really that strong to deal with every pirate?"

"Well, you didn't hear this from me," Cici leans, with a hushed voice, "Rumors say that Captain Smoker has some special powers! Some say he made a deal with a devil to get them."

"I'm sure he did"

"If you want to meet Smoker, your best bet would be at the Marine base at the other side of town. Just look for the big guy with white hair and a cigar between his teeth."

"Thanks, Cici," The teen thanks, but when his hand grabs onto the store's door handle, the woman stops him with one more question.

"I didn't catch your name before."

The teen turns around and replies, "Lyson Emon, but you can call me Lyson."

Well then. I guess I'm starting a new series. I have a LONG way to go because I'm not sure most people know, but One Piece is a...

*Looks around for intruders*

...helluva long series. So imma have the chapters named after arcs or some in-between stuff between each chapter. I have no idea if I want to add the stories from fillers because I like my sanity(no matter how much it hates me), but I'll put in as much as I can! I'll also update the story or the character tags later as I go on.

Reviews are my life source!
