The jungles of Palenque came alive in the early hours of the morning, the air humid and buzzing with the sound of cicadas and distant bird calls. Somewhere amidst the thick vegetation, the Lonnit Entertainment crew was setting up for their first shoot in the ancient Maya city. For Charles Lonnit, this was a triumphant moment—a chance to prove his team could do more than court disaster. For everyone else, it was a delicate mix of excitement and dread.

"Alright, people!" Charles clapped his hands, striding around the set like he owned the jungle. "Day one of Ancient of Discoveries. This is going to be legendary. Mark, are the cameras ready? Jamie, how's the sound equipment? Erin—wait, what are you doing?"

Erin Keenan looked up from her tablet, her headphones hanging around her neck. "I'm trying to make sure the audio doesn't sound like we're filming in a blender."

"Good, good," Charles muttered before turning to Jamie Tiergan. "And Jamie, is everything on schedule?"

Jamie gave him a withering look. "Charles, we're in the middle of a jungle. Nothing's on schedule."

Kate Wilder, sitting off to the side and going over her notes, finally spoke up. "Guys, before we start, can we not kill each other today? It's day one."

"Thank you, Kate," Charles said, his voice overly saccharine. "Our fearless leader, everyone."

Kate rolled her eyes but stood, holding her clipboard like it was a shield. "Actually, Charles, I think it's time we addressed the elephant in the room."

"Jamie's attitude?" Charles quipped.

"No," Kate replied sharply. "Me."

The crew fell silent, intrigued.

Kate stepped in front of the camera, looking poised despite the beads of sweat forming on her forehead. "Before we roll, I need to say something. This is a big deal for me. Hosting Ancient of Discoveries is my first major project since The Architects of Murder, and let's be honest—that show didn't exactly end well."

Jamie snorted. "Understatement of the century."

Kate continued, ignoring her. "Granthem Du'Met and that hellish experience at the World's Fair Hotel replica—it nearly broke me. But it also made me realize how much I love storytelling. This time, I want to focus on something meaningful, something… not horrifying."

Mark Nestor adjusted the camera, giving her an encouraging smile. "And you're going to crush it, Kate."

"Thanks, Mark." She took a deep breath. "So, if I get a little nervous or stumble over my words, just… bear with me, okay?"

Erin gave her a thumbs-up. "You've got this. We're all behind you."

Jamie muttered, "Some of us more begrudgingly than others," but even she cracked a smile.

With Kate's impromptu pep talk out of the way, the team began setting up the shot in front of a stunning view of the Palenque ruins. The Temple of the Foliated Cross stood in the distance, its silhouette framed by the dense greenery.

"Alright, everyone!" Charles called out, his energy bordering on manic. "This is the opening shot of the series, so let's make it perfect. Kate, you ready?"

Kate nodded, stepping into the frame. She smoothed her hair, adjusted her khaki jacket, and flashed a confident smile at the camera.

"Rolling," Mark announced, his voice steady.

Kate took a deep breath, looking directly into the lens. "Welcome to Ancient of Discoveries, a journey through the world's most fascinating ancient cities and their untold stories. Today, we begin in the heart of the Maya world—Palenque."

Erin, monitoring the audio, whispered, "So far, so good."

Kate continued, her voice steady and engaging. "Palenque was one of the Maya civilization's most significant cities, known for its incredible architecture, intricate carvings, and the mysteries that continue to captivate archaeologists and historians."

Jamie adjusted the boom mic, leaning closer to Erin. "She's nailing it."

"Let her finish," Erin hissed, shooing Jamie away.

Kate walked slowly toward the edge of the frame, gesturing toward the ruins behind her. "One of Palenque's most famous rulers, K'inich Janaab' Pakal, left a legacy carved into the stone. His tomb, hidden deep within the Temple of the Inscriptions, is the stuff of legend."

Charles watched from behind the camera, grinning like a proud parent. "Now that's how you do an intro."

Kate wrapped up, her voice softening slightly. "But Palenque is more than just its rulers. It's a window into a world that thrived for centuries, a place where art, science, and spirituality intertwined. Over the next few days, we'll uncover its secrets, starting right here."

Mark lowered the camera and gave a thumbs-up. "And… cut! That was perfect, Kate."

The crew erupted into scattered applause. Kate let out a relieved laugh, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

"Was it okay?" she asked.

"It was more than okay," Erin said. "You crushed it."

"Yeah, not bad," Jamie added, though her smirk betrayed genuine approval.

Charles, never one to downplay his contributions, clapped his hands. "That's what I'm talking about! This is going to be award-winning stuff. Let's set up for the next shot."

Kate stepped back, letting the team bustle around her. For the first time in months, she felt a glimmer of pride—not the forced kind she'd donned during her recovery but something real.

As the team packed up their gear to move to the next location, Jamie sidled up to Kate, a mischievous grin on her face. "You know, if this whole archaeology host thing doesn't work out, you'd make a great news anchor."

Kate laughed. "Thanks, Jamie. I'll keep that in mind if I survive this project."

From a distance, Charles shouted, "Let's hustle, people! The Temple of the Foliated Cross isn't going to film itself!"

Jamie groaned. "And there goes the good mood."

"Come on," Kate said, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "Let's see what other legends Palenque has in store for us."

And with that, the crew set off deeper into the ruins, ready to uncover mysteries, make history, and, inevitably, create chaos along the way.
