Author's Note: I USED to wrestle in HS, but have taken GREAT liberties from what I remember and googled about college wrestling and what my friends did. If it's not exact please excuse issues and remember it's fictional.

When Bakugo waltzed into the locker room at Hehro University, he was surprised to see another name already listed in the try-out slot for 133 (60kg).
"Who's this fucking clown, Deku?"
"Dude, that doesn't say Deku in the slightest," Kirishima gave him a shove and chuckled. "It's that Midoriya. He just transferred from Aldera. Coach Aizawa told us about him last week."
Bakugo gave a dismissive wave at the board of weight class sign ups, "I can't read that untidy shit."
Todoroki snorted from where he lay sprawled out on a bench with his arm thrown over his face, "Can't read is more like it."
"Fuck off, icy-hot."
"Low blow, dude," Kirishima slung an arm around his shoulder pulling them over to their lockers and away from the glare of Todoroki, who'd sat up to flick him off.
"I mean the dude always smells like icy-hot. It's accurate."
"Because he was thrown on his neck at the end of last season!"
Bakugo shrugged, tossing his bag into the locker, stepping out of his sneakers, before kicking them into the bottom of his locker.
"Captains!" A voice barked from the doorway to the gym, "weight room in 5!"
"Yeah, yeah, we're coming!" Bakugo pulled his singlet on, a pair of gym shorts, and a ratty shirt he'd cut the sleeves off of which had become steadily more ripped until it was essentially open on both sides and held together only at the neck and hem. Finally, he grabbed his knee pads and wrestling shoes and sauntered toward the door before turning back toward Kirishima who was fiddling with his headgear and Todoroki who was lacing his shoes, "Anyway, it won't matter what his name is because 133 (60kg) is mine." He lifted his chin in a half challenge as he backed out through the locker room door without looking away, making sure to keep his smirk intact until he couldn't see them anymore.
As Bakugo stepped into the gym, he took a deep breath, getting the mix of bleach, sweat, and the slight rubber musk from the mats. He immediately felt at ease, and he felt the tension of this unknown element ease from his shoulders. This was exactly where he should be. He worked harder than anyone else, he was a genius on and off the mat, this was his final year, so he wasn't going to let some new transfer change the course of his plans.
Bakugo shook out his shoulders, rolling his head to the left and right, before doing a few knee to chest jumps. Shortly after, Todoroki and Kirishima emerged, and the three of them walked toward the weight room and the first meeting of their senior wrestling careers.
Coach Aizawa had been the one to call them, but to Bakugo's surprise when they walked into the room Coach Allmight was also there.
"Hey coach!" Kirishima exclaimed happily, "thought you weren't going to be here until after winter break! Good to see you!" The two of them easily exchanged high fives and smiles. Bakugo wouldn't say he was jealous of Kirishima's easy rapport with the coaches, but he did feel like he might be missing something when Todoroki also got a smile and a quick slap on the back, and he and Coach Allmight simply exchanged nods.
"Bakugo," he said warily, "heard you'd been spending most of the break here already."
Bakugo jerked his chin and crossed his arms. What's that supposed to mean? "Yeah, finals finished and the parents had already left for vacation." He shrugged. "They offered to fly me out, but it didn't seem worth missing the days of training."
Coach cocked his head to the left and scratched his temple, "rest is import-"
"Is there something ya needed Coach?" Kirishima interrupted Coach Allmight, while also lightly stepping in front of Bakugo, which he resented.
Just as he was about to shove Kirishima to the side, and explain just where Coach Allmight could shove his rest, a green-haired guy came in through the doorway of the weight room.
"Oh! Hi," he smiled, and Bakugo examined the newcomer, quickly making the connection that this would be his new competition, and the reason the coaches had called them to the practice early. Altogether, he didn't look like much. He was wearing beat-up, worn out, wrestling shoes, a pair of gray gym shorts over a pair of compression shorts, dirty white knee pads on both knees, and a blue and gray tee with the name of his old school emblazoned across the front.
Bakugo noted that the wear on his shoes was mainly on the outer front of his right foot, meaning he led his shots with that side. His hair covered his ears in messy waves, so Bakugo couldn't tell if he locked heads often, but he reasoned he probably wore his headgear all the time, like a good little boy.
In less than five seconds, Bakugo determined that he'd have nothing to worry about and a final knot he didn't realize he'd been holding in his shoulders released.
"You must be the new guy trying for 133 (60kg)" Todoroki said bluntly. "I'm Shoto Todoroki. You can call me Todoroki. I wrestle at 125 (56.5kg)." Todoroki held his hand out, and the green-haired guy shook it.
"Hi! Yes, I know you! I've followed your career super closely! Best 125(56.6 kg) in the country!" Every sentence from the guy's mouth lilted up with positivity as he gripped Todoroki's hand with his own, pumping them both up and down vigorously while he talked. "Honestly, one of the quickest…" he hadn't been avoiding Todoroki's gaze, but instead had been looking around at everyone as he chattered on about Todoroki's stats from last, and finally took a breath and a moment to look directly into Todoroki's grimace, "uh, well. You know," He dropped his hand, stepped back and scratched the back of his head, "completely illegal throw last...year.. And…uh…" he trailed off and glanced around the room looking slightly desperate.
"Fucking, christ." Bakugo heard Kirishima mutter under his breath before stepping around him, moving in front of Todoroki, who stood glaring at his own hand that green-haired guy had dropped as if it were infected, and cheerfully holding his own hand out to him he said, "Hi! Midoriya, right? I'm Kirishima. I wrestle at 157 (71kg). Coach Aizawa told us you'd be coming through. Glad to have you." He dropped the handshake, threw his arm around Bakugo's shoulders and pulled him forward, "Bakugo would never admit it, but he'll enjoy the challenge."
"Katsuki Bakugo?"
"Yah, so what?"
"Your ankle pick is a thing of beauty. I've studied it extensively!"
"You're kinda a lot, ya know?"
"Hahaha," Kirishima used the arm around his shoulders to push his head forward, while himself forcing a laugh, "In a good way, I'm sure."
Midoriya smiled broadly and scratched the back of his head, "I've heard that before. I just get focused sometimes." He shrugged and smiled up at them, and Bakugo wasn't sure why but the sincerity in the grin made him grit his teeth.
"That's right! Young Midoriya came from Aldera College, and I was told by the athletic director of Herho that we needed to find another scholarship student, and I happened upon this bright fellow later that week!" Coach Allmight finally moved forward and beamed at them all. "I know we really needed a 285 (129kg) but this unlucky fellow's university was also closing its wrestling program, and what's that if not fate!"
Coach Aizawa's voice came through from the gym, "It could also be called idiocy." His body followed, leaning languidly on the frame before continuing, "and you were told you'd lose the scholarship money if it wasn't given out."
"Ah, just as you say Aizawa. We needed another scholarship student." Allmight nodded, before glancing at his phone, "Oh my, Nezu asked me to meet him 20 minutes ago!" He dashed toward the door, before stopping and glancing back at them, "Thank you for helping the new recruit, captains! I knew I could count on you!" Then he continued his mad sprint toward the exit.
"Wait…wh-" a chorus of protests and confusion was cut short by a quick clap from Aizawa
"Regardless of Allmight's" Aizawa flapped his hand back and forth with a grimace, "Midoriya is now here, and it is now 5 past. Captains need to begin practice."
Todoroki nodded, and without a further word he walked past Aizawa and into the gym. Kirishima dropped his arm from Bakugo's shoulders, and as he passed Midoriya he said, "Let's hope Aldera knows its conditioning, Aizawa's gonna have our asses." He slapped him on the back as he passed, "You got it, rookie."
As Kirishima passed through the doorway into the gym, and the door softly closed behind him, Bakugo stepped forward so he and Midoriya were mere handsbreadth apart before ducking his head slightly so that he was level with Midoriya's ears.
"I don't know what fucking shit coach is trying to pull here." He spat at a low whisper, "but just know 133 (60kg) is mine." He jerked his head back, and shouldered his way past Midoriya to the doors, "So, don't even try to keep up."
Izuku tried to catch his breath. Aldera had been a good wrestling program, but he knew it wasn't anything like Hehro's. His body knew it, too. They'd conditioned; sure, but the constant drilling was something else. Coach Aizawa had them running drills like he'd never done before. He'd run through what felt like a hundred different ways to score on the edge of the mat, and Aizawa still wasn't finished.
"Ten more minutes to get better! Then it's live wrestling."
Izuka tried not to wheeze as his partner, Tokoyami, once again sent him sprawling from a take-down.
"Pretty ballsy of you to put your name up for 133 (60kg)." Tokoyami held his hand out to him and Izuka grabbed it and allowed him to pull him up. " I mean I could've sat bench for it, but I knew I'd never wrestle that way, so just jumped up to the 141 (63kg) spot."
Izuka couldn't even tell if Tokoyami was short of breath, but it didn't sound like it as he allowed Izuka to practice the take-down in turn, accepting the hand up as well.
"I mean" Izuku sucked in a breath, "Coach Allmight told me I'd have a spot." He managed to say without wheezing, and was never more grateful for the whistle as it hid the cough that followed.
"Alright! Take 5, everyone get some water." Coach Aizawa glared around the room, "that means everyone." He lifted his chin at Kirishima and jerked his head toward the fountains. For the first time, Izuku saw Kisrishima shake his shoulders in irritation before he gave a curt nod back to Aizawa.
"Let's go, fresh meat!" Kirishima collected the few freshmen around him, "Remember, everyone small sips. We're not finished yet, and I don't want any vomiting on the first day."
Izuku lifted the hem of shirt to wipe his face, and turned toward Tokoyami, "Kirishima usually seems so positive, what was that about?"
Tokoyami lifted his head from where he'd sprawled on the mat, "Oh, Kirishima's been having trouble making weight at hydration. And Aizawa's a stickler for most things, but he also follows the 48 hour rule, too."
Izuku screwed the lid back on his own water bottle, before flopping down next to Tokoyami, "48 hour rule?"
"Oh, yeah. As long as you don't party 48 hours before a meet you can kinda do whatever, as long as coach doesn't have to bail you out. Didn't they have that at Aldera?"
"Nah, coach there was very strict. If he found out you'd been doing anything, he'd bench or suspend you immediately. Couldn't do anything for the season."
"Fuck, that'd suck."
"I mean it's good to be serious during the season, right?"
"You're joking, right? We've gotta let stress off somehow! Coach Vlad has us running study sessions after every other practice because Kaminari almost failed Anatomy I during his freshman year, and that was three fucking years ago."
"So, you guys… drink?"
Tokoyami opened his mouth to answer, but was cut off by, "Alright! Gather round!" Coach Aizawa didn't even raise his voice, but the entire gym quieted and everyone gathered quickly at the farthest mat he was standing at. "We'll be live wrestling in the following pairs: Todoroki and Bakugo, Midoriya and Tokoyami, Kirishima and Kaminari, Tenya and Koda, Shoji and Sato." Here Aizawa paused looking toward the two, "Both of you remember, the season has begun, I will be looking to see who will be on bench from this moment forward. Use that as motivation because 197 (89kg) is up for either of you."
"I'd like to be paired with Midoriya, coach. Todoroki and Tokoyami will be fine as a pair."
Aizawa only raised an eyebrow slightly at Bakugo before asking, "Todoroki, you're taking the brunt of that jump, are you ok with that?" He turned to glance over at Todoroki, who only nodded in assent. "Alright, then. As 133 (60kg) is up for grabs as well, the pair will be Bakugo and Midoriya. Everyone watches each match. Underclassmen are running until we switch. I expect 4 miles completed when the matches are finished. Let's get started."
That's like seven minute miles if each match is only 6 minutes. I wonder if….
"Shake hands."
Shit! I wanted to wish Tokoyami good luck. I need to focus!
Izuku also didn't want to think about his own match approaching in just a few moments. He watched Tokoyami and Todoroki as he jogged in place from the corner of the mat, as Todoroki escaped from the bottom in a brillant maneuver that had Tokoyami scrambling to collect themselves. Unintentionally, Izuku glanced across the mat to where Bakugo stood rolling his shoulders. He caught Bakugo's glance, and the sneer on his face snuck its way into his soul.
"1-2… That's a pin! Come together, shake hands. Good work, both of you. Tokoyami we'll discuss the match later. Both of you get some water. Bakugo! Midoriya! Come here."
Izuku felt his stomach drop as his foot pressed into the mark across from Bakugo's.
"Alright, clean match." Aizawa looked directly at Bakugo and waited until he nodded, before continuing, "Shake hands."
