Heeeeelllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Sokeefe people!

I'm super excited to show you this scene, because I promised to write it, like, a month ago and never got it out to you…

*Hides behind Sandor*

This scene is my thank you to you for being so patient with me, and sticking with me through the last few weeks :)

I really appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy reading this scene as much as I enjoyed making it!

"Mom?"

Sophie groaned at the sound of the high pitched voice calling her name. She rolled over in bed to try to block out the sound.

"Mom?" The voice said again.

Sophie snored softly in return.

"MOM WAKE UP!" A shrill voice screamed, waking Sophie from her dreams. Sophie immediately jolted up, her brown and gold eyes wide and panicked.

"Where's the fire?!" No sooner did the words leave her mouth, a bundle of white and purple jumped on her, knocking her back into bed.

"Today's the day!" Maya, Sophie's adopted daughter, said happily.

"Maya . . . What did I say about tackling people?" Sophie said, looking up at the energetic kid that was perched on her stomach, grinning at her.

Sophie tried to stop the smile that was creeping on her face.

"Sorry," Maya said, smiling guiltily. "But you would sleep forever if I didn't wake you up. And you can't sleep in today!"

Sophie had adopted Maya when she was seven years old. It was two years since that joyous day, and Sophie never regretted becoming a Mom. Sure it was hard at times, but they'd learned to care for each other like a real family. Sophie cared a lot about Maya and would do anything for her

"Hmm, and what's today?" Sophie said, tapping her chin teasingly.

"Mom." Maya said and climbed off Sophie, so she could stand up. "You're taking me to Trinkets today!"

Sophie's face betrayed her as her mouth formed a grin. Today was just as special to her as it was to Maya. Maya had been asking to go to the toy store at their local mall for a few weeks now, and Sophie sadly had to tell her they couldn't because of her job.

Today though, Sophie had taken the day off so they could finally make that trip.

Sophie grinned to herself as she thought of what they would see there.

Every month the owner of the store, Keefe Sencen, set up elaborate toy displays. He said it was to publicize Trinkets, but Sophie knew his store was already the most popular to store within five cities. She knew it was so that the kids could play in them for free and have fun. That was one of the things she liked most about Keefe . . . his big heart.

Keefe didn't have the most sentimental parents growing up. He sought to create a place where he could bring joy to kids . . . joy he never had growing up.

"Come on then! Let's get going!" Sophie said and threw back her bed sheets, sending a giggling Maya tumbling through the tangled fabric.

*Later that day*

"Keeeeeeeeefe!" Maya said as she ran into a pair of extended arms.

"Mini Foster! Haven't seen you here in a while," Keefe smiled widely as he hugged Maya. "How are you doing? Did you use the kite?"

"Yeah!" Maya said referring to the big pink kite Keefe had given her last time they visited. "I used it every time Mom took me to the park!"

"Atta girl," Keefe said. "Why don't you go look at the doll section, I just got a new shipment today."

As Maya ran off giggling to admire the new dolls, Sophie said, "Stay where I can see you!" before walking up to greet Keefe.

"Foster!" Keefe said and hugged her.

"Hey, Keefe." Sophie said and hugged him back with a smile.

"How's everything going?" He asked before pulling back to study her, most likely seeing the big purple circles under her eyes.

"It's okay." Sophie said.

Keefe gave her a look.

Sophie sighed, "I've been better . . . "

Keefe smiled at Sophie in a protective and compassionate way that made her cheeks warm up.

Suddenly Keefe snapped his finger together as if just realizing something. "Foster, you know how the last time you visited, you asked if the shipment of elephant stuffed animals had come in yet?"

"Yeah." Sophie asked slowly.

"Well they came in yesterday! You want to see them?" Keefe said excitedly.

"Sure, thanks Keefe." Sophie smiled as they headed in the direction of the toys, oblivious to the small nine year old girl, in a white and purple dress, who was following them . . .

A few minutes later they arrived at a storage closet, and Keefe took out a key and unlocked the lock that was in the door.

The moment Keefe turned on the lights in the enormous storage closet, Sophie sucked in a breath. She slowly entered, taking in the magical sight in front of her.

There were a variety of different stuffed animals lining the shelves of the closet, fairy lights were hanging from the ceiling, cancasing the small space in beautiful beige light. The center of attention though was the section of stuffed elephants lining the shelves right across from the entrance. There were all types of shapes, sizes, colors, and designs.

Sophie saw an enormous white elephant wearing blue sunglasses, a green elephant with pink markings all over it, and a black elephant wearing a miniature police uniform.

But the one that stuck out to Sophie the most wasn't big or fancy. It was a simple small gray elephant wearing a red Hawaiian t-shirt.

"That one." Sophie said and pointed at the elephant.

"Are you sure?" Keefe asked.

"Positive." Sophie smiled.

As Keefe grabbed it from the high shelf it was on, Sophie grinned with happiness. "What'll you name her?" He asked.

Sophie thought about it for a moment, then reached a decision.

"Ella." She said confidently.

"Ella? Ella the Elephant?" Keefe said and chuckled.

"Yeah! It's simple and adorable, just like her!"

"And me right? Well not the simple part but, ya know." Keefe struck a pose, and Sophie immediately burst into giggles.

"You're impossible, you know that right?"

"That's why you love me!" Keefe said, humor in his voice.

. . .

. . .

. . .

But his eyes were a whole other story . . . they were serious and held such sincerity.

Her breath caught as he handed her Ella, his hand lingering near hers. He opened his mouth to say something—but before he could, they heard a bang behind them. They whipped around at the loud sound, and saw the door to the closet close. The sickening sound of the lock being put into place, made both Sophie and Keefe pale.

Keefe rushed to the door and pulled in it, unsuccessful in opening it. "It's stuck!" Keefe grunted.

Sophie breathed heavily, trying to think logically. "Where is your key?"

"Right her—" Keefe paused when he found his pocket was empty. He patted himself down, and emptied all his pockets before admitting, "It's not here . . ."

Sophie leaned against the wall and sank down to the floor, putting her head in her arms.

"Hey, it's okay Foster . . ." Keefe said and sat next to her. "Someone is bound to find us."

"Yeah." Sophie said softly, her voice muffled from the fabric of her arms.

They stayed like that for a while, comfortable in each other's presence, despite the situation.

That is until Keefe broke the silence with a question. "Sophie?"

The use of her first name for once had her look up from her arms. "Yes Keefe?"

"If . . . um . . . If I asked you out on a date, what would you say?"

"You're asking me this now?" Sophie said.

"Maybe?" Keefe said with a sheepish grin. "Well, what would you say?"

"Keefe, you've been my best friend since high school, and you've been flirting with me ever since . . . Why didn't you ask me sooner?" Sophie said, smiling.

"What?! Why didn't you tell me?" Keefe said, staring at her incredulously. "I can't believe this is the conversation that's following me confessing my feelings to you…."

"Yes, I'd love to go on a date with you," Sophie said.

Keefe's smile, right then and there, was the happiest Sophie had ever seen. Keefe leaned in slowly, as if testing the waters of their new relationship.

Sophie replied by leaning closer to him . . . more specifically, his lips.

Just before their mouths made contact, the door of the closet swung open, revealing a cheeky looking Maya.

"Are you getting married yet?!"

"MAYA!" Sophie and Keefe said together, flinging themselves apart.

Maya giggled again before running off.

"Well….At least we know who locked the door…." Sophie said.

Keefe burst out laughing, with Sophie following not long after. Keefe stood up and offered Sophie a hand.

"Come on, let's go get mini Foster," Keefe said.
