I don't own Naruto or One Piece. Finally, we meet our beloved doctor.
Both Nami and Sakura stared at the creature hiding behind a wall. They were both puzzled why it was afraid of them.
"I think you got it backwards. The hiding thing I mean." Commented Nami. The creature glared at them and hides even further behind the wall, causing Sakura to sweatdrop.
"It's too late for that, little guy. We can still see you..." The creature growled.
"SHUT UP, LADY!" He screamed. Nami gasped in shock. "Oh, and can you tell me how your fever's doing?"
"It's Talking!" Nami yelled in surprise. Nami's freakout causing the little little guy to stumble and fall backwards, crashing iint some stuff in the other room, causing both Sakura and Nami to wince
"And yet... I am not surprised to see a talking animal." Commented Sakura turns to her.
"Really? When?" Sakura thinks back to the day she met Pakkun.
Kakashi started making hand signs and then used his thumb to draw some blood, summoning his dog, Pakkun. Sakura looked on in bewilderment and quickly turned to her teacher.
"Oh, wait. Seriously Our fourth member is a puppy?!" Sakura asked.
Pakkun leaped up, just a hair's breadth from Sakura's face. "All, right. Listen, little girl. Don't you dare go around saying I'm just some cute puppy.
"But... I didn't say cute."
"So that's why seeing talking animals is the least weird thing I've seen in this world."
"KEEP IT DOWN, CHOPPER!" A voice interrupted both ladies. They both see Dr. Kurehra enter the room holding some booze.
Your fever seems to have gone down a little bit. That's good. You happy?" Both Sakura and Nami stared in confusion. The doctor then puts her finger on Nami's forehead while drinking some booze.
"Who are you?" The sick girl asked. She drink a lot of her booze before she finally exhaled.
"Yes, it's gone down several degrees. It should be alright. I'm the only doctor around here, Dr. Kureha, but you can call me Doctorine, okay?"
"Oh, then that means we're on..."
"Looking for how I stay so young?" Dr. Kureha interrupted.
"No, that's not it." Sakura spoke. Something pops back into her mind. "Oh yeah, there were three guys with us. Are they okay? Naruto, Luffy and Sanji?"
"Yes, they all are sleeping in the next room... three real tough guys." She then sits next to Nami and opened her shirt to reveal her purple marks in her belly.
"This is what caused your sickness."
"Really?" Kureha nodded and continued. "You were bitten by a bug called the Kestia. It's a poisonous tick that thrives in jungles with high heat and humidity. When it bites you it produces a type of bacteria into your body. These bacteria lay dormant for 5 days, causing severe pain. It causes a high fever, severe infection, mild carditis, and arthritis. Not pleasant. Given the infection's progression in the infected area, I'd guess you'd been infected for about 3 days now. The pain you'd been feeling must've been terrible, but still, it would've eased up in 2 more days without any treatment at all."
"So... it would have gone away in two days?" The Pink-haired Ninja questioned. "Mmhmm," Dr. Kureha replied. "You wouldn't be feeling any pain what-so-ever... because you'd be dead." Both Sakura and Nami looked absolutely horrifed. Sakura is super grateful they arrived just in time; otherwise, her best friend might not be here with her.
"This particular infection is known as the Five Day Disease," Dr. Kureha continued as she stood back up. "I had thought that Kestia had died you a hundred years ago but I had the antibiotic just in case. Where did you guys come from that you may have been exposed to this? Were you walking around some kinda old jungle with your belly out or something!?" She chuckled. Both Sakura and Nami reminisce about their escapades in Little Garden after Nami escaped from Mr. 3's cake, even though her clothes ended up getting scorched. Dr. Kureha stared at them with a glare.
"Now, stay in bed. The treatment for the disease isn't completely finished yet."
"Thank you so much, I'll be fine as long as my fever goes down. My body will take care of itself after that."
"Nami... as a medic, I recommend that you listen to the doctor and stay in bed until you are 100%."
"Your friend's right, there girlie." The doctorine stated. "This disease normally takes a course of treatment ten days long to successfully cure, even with medicine as advance as mine are your body will still at least three days to recuperate. If you don't want to risk suffering and possibly death, get some rest girl." Both Nami and Sakura gasp.
"But we can't stay that long!" Nami . Kureha whipped out her scalpel and lunged at her, pressing the blade against her neck while firmly holding her wrist.
"When the patient leaves this castle is because either cured or deceased." The doc gave her a heads-up. She bursts into laughter. "You aren't going anywhere girl; you better get used to it."
Chopper was in the next room, holding some bloody bandages as he shuffled to the sink. He took a quick look at Naruto, Luffy, and Sanji, all snoozing away. He walks closer to Luffy, remembering when he rescued him, Naruto and Sakura while he was holding Nami.
"He climbed this mountain with his bare hands? That's almost three miles of sheer rock to go up!" The doctor asked while staring at Luffy who is shivering in the cold. "His entire body is on the brink of Frostbite. What was he thinking dressing like that for such a climb? Draw some hot water and throw him into it." She then turns to Naruto and Sakura. "And these two... I see some scraps and bruises on them yet I don't know how they are still alive. Even if they have winter clothing on them." While she was questioning that, Chopper was checking on Sanji's injuries.
"This guy's bleeding a whole lot. He's got six broke ribs, and a spinal fissure. Can I operate on him, Doctorine?" He inquired as the doctor approached Nami, taking a look at her and noticing she was in pretty rough condition.
"Apparently the most critical of our patients is this girl. This one's dying... Chopper! Have phenicol, cardiotonic, and tialcillian ready for me..."
She has an infection?" Asked the Reindeer.
"Yes..." Dr. Kureha stated. "And the infection isn't from anywhere on this island." She feels someone touched her arm. She looks to down to see Luffy frozen solid but still awake.
"T-these guys are my friends..." He whispered. Hearing that caused Chopper to widen his eyes in surprise.
"I figured that kid, I'll save them so don't worry," she said before she turned towards Chopper. "Chopper! Let's begin treatment!"
Chopper is keeping an eye on the three pirates as they snooze away. He's particularly curious about Luffy. The said Captain's eyes started to turn up.
"M-meat!" Luffy mumbled, still half-asleep. Chopper gasped and hurriedly shuffled back towards Naruto's bed knocking a bunch of treys. He hears some mumbling stealing a quick look at Naruto, who was dozing off.
"Mmm... Ramen... Thanks a bunch, Sakura," Naruto murmured, barely awake. He gasped again and back away, knocking another bunch of treys.
"Venison stew should be shimmered in a large pot for three hours until all the meat because tender." He whimpered to see Naruto waking up. The blonde haired ninja/pirate rubbed his eyes. He blinked for a few seconds before his vision cleared. He then hears Luffy sitting up. He then looks over at chopper and his mouth suddenly drooled.
"Meat..." Chopper gulps nervously while Sanji grips his arm tight. He glances between Luffy and Sanji, trying to figure out what's going on. Suddenly, Luffy's drool starts flowing like a river, causing Sanji to let out a terrified scream. Naruto blinks a couple of times, rubbing his head as he stares at Chopper, clearly bewildered. He shoots Chopper a puzzled glance, and just like that, Luffy and Sanji take off after the poor little reindeer. Naruto sat there in confusion. Luffy was hanging on to Chopper, trying to bite his right arm.
"Hold on, Luffy." Sanji said. "Let me cook up this guy up first!" They chased him to the next room. Luffy suddenly stopped and noticed something. He ignored the Reindeer and ran back to the sick girl's side.
"Nami..." He smiled.
"Nami, dear. Sakura, honey." Sanji stopped Chopper too and made his way back to Luffy. Just then, he caught a punch aimed right at his face. It was Naruto giving him a glare. He then turns to his girlfriend.
"Are you okay, Sakura? Nami?" He asked both girls.
"Nami, you look like you're all better!" Luffy cheered.
"Getting there, thanks." Nami told him.
"Right..." Sanji said as he stood up "One tasty venison dinner for the two lovely ladies, coming up!" Sanji announced. He and Luffy spotted the reindeer trying to sneak across the room on his tiptoes. He stopped and slowly moved his eye.
"COME BACK!" Sanji shouted out, and he and Luffy dashed off after Chopper, leaving a puzzled Naruto next to Sakura. He shook his head and then winced at a twinge in his stomach.
"Man, I'm starving. How about we hunt down some food, babe?" He reached out his hand. Sakura grabbed it. Then, she glanced over at the doctor.
"Could you point us to the kitchen?"
"Just go down the stairs and it's the third door on your right," she replied. Sakura noddes then glanced over at Nami. "Hey, Nami..." she said. "Luffy was super set on getting you here. He climbed a mountain all on his own, using just his hands and feet."
"R-really?" Nami replied, her cheeks turning a shade red. Sakura gave her a nod and then headed off with Naruto.
"Awesome, thanks!" With that, Sakura and Naruto headed out to find the kitchen. Nami leans back and think back to what Sakura said. Nami was deep in her thoughts, her brain buzzing with what Luffy had done. She'd always respected his drive and relentless energy, but this time, she saw him differently—a perspective that brightened the true feelings she held for him.
"All this time.. I've been... falling for him?..." She questions herself. Right now, she's feeling a bit torn about this whole situation. On one hand, Luffy is honestly the nicest, most genuine person she's ever met. He's loyal, brave, and just all-around sweet. But on the other hand... he is a complete moron. Is he really smart enough for a relationship? He doesn't know the difference between loving a food or loving person unlike Naruto. Just then, she hears some laughter.
"Oh, Naruto... who would've guessed that a goofball like you could be so charming?" Sakura's comment makes Nami smile. Just like Luffy, Naruto might not be the brightest bulb in the box among the Straw Hat gang, but he and Luffy definitely share that same heart and strength. And Sakura is just as smart as she is. If she and Naruto can be in a loving relationship then maybe... her thoughts were interrupted as the doctrine came in with some alcohol. S
"Those two... they're quite the couple, huh?" She said referring to Naruto and Sakura.
"Totally," Nami sighed dreamily.
"And those guys chasing Chopper. They're already up and moving."
"Yeah, they are.." She agreed while holding on to her face embarrassingly. "Oh, Chopper. Is that the reindeer?"
"Yes..." The doctorine stated.
"He's just a reindeer with a blue nose."
"But, normal reindeer's don't talk," Nami said while Luffy and Sanji were holding onto the reindeer.
"If he's different from ordinary reindeer's in some way..." Kureha said.
"If he's different?" Nami asked. Suddenly started to transformed into a muscular body.
"I'm NOT FOOD FOR YOU, OKAY!?" He shouted and pounded both the captain and cook down and runs out.
"If he's different it's just because he ate a "Human-Human Fruit", that's all," Kureha said.
"A human-human fruit?" Nami questioned. "A devil fruit, right?"
"That's right," Dr. Kureha said. "He's still a reindeer but he has the abilities of a human, like talking and walking around. And also, he's a Doctor. I taught Chopper everything that I know about the field of medicine."
Meanwhile at Bighorn Village, The villagers were still shoveling and digging, trying to find their leader.
"Dalton, please don't die on us here!" Vivi begged while shoveling.
"We'll find him in time, I'm sure of it! We have too! Dalton, Please hang in there, okay?" Usopp vowed while he was digging him out with his bear hands. Zoro, however was watching with confusion.
"So who's Dalton?" He asked.
"DON'T JUST STAND THERE, DO SOMETHING, ZORO!" Usopp then stops yelling because the hiking bear was walking right passed them. He bowed to him until he was out of their sight then turns back to Zoro.
"Don't just stand there! GET A SHOVEL! HELP US FIND DALTON!" Usopp shouted and went back to digging. Zoro was staring at the Hiking bear's direction.
"What was that thing?" He inquired."
EVERYONE! WE FOUND DALTON OVER HERE!" A villager shouted.
"What?" Usopp asked. He then smiled and runs to check on him.
"Fantastic!" Vivi exclaimed and followed her friend. Leaving Zoro still confused.
"Who's Dalton?" Nobody answered him. One of the villagers checked his pulse and pressed his hands on Dalton's frozen body. "
"This is horrible." He stated with horror. "I can't feel a heartbeat." He glances up at Vivi and Usopp, both of whom wear worried expressions for the village leader who came to their aid.
After finishing his meal, Luffy slammed his table at the doctor.
"You should be one of my crew." He demanded. "Please, old lady. We really need to have a doctor on board!"
"Luffy..." She points at his face. "You did tell me that's your name. Isn't that right?"
"Yeah..." Luffy confirmed.
"And did you just call me an old lady?"
"Yeah..." With that, Kureha kicked him in the face.
"IF I WERE YOU, I'D BE MORE CAREFUL OF WHAT I SAY!" Her kick sent Luffy flying into a wall. Sanji watches from the table he's sitting in. "I'm still well within my youthful one hundred thirties, thank you."
"Geez, you're a tough old hag," Sanji said. The doc sent him flying right into another wall.
"Are you boys really asking me to become a pirate?" Dr. Kureha asked. Luffy tumbled down from above the door and landed on the floor with a thud. "Don't be ridiculous, that would be a waste of my precious time. Besides, I have no interest in life on the sea." Luffy returned to her side with a smile.
"Those are all lame excuses. It's about adventure old woman!"
"Well this one's a slow learner," Dr. Kureha commented out loud. "Didn't I just tell you to watch what you say?" Uknownest to them, Chopper came back hiding behind a wall.
"So, these guys are pirates?" He asked in wondering. Sanji and Luffy turn their heads and spot the talking reindeer. All of their jaw dropped. Chopper's jaw reached the floor as he was being chased by Luffy and Sanji.
"That's enough of that, idiots!" Shouted Kureha as she jumped out of her chair and chased after Luffy and Sanji, leaving Nami alone. Only a few seconds later, Chopper came back from another door being chased still. Luffy kept on chasing him while Sanji stopped "WAIT FOOD!" Luffy shouted. "COME BACK HERE! SLOW DOWN!"
"GET BACK HERE!" Sanji yelled. "Just wait my darling Miss. Nami. n just a few minutes I'll cook you a delicious reindeer dish you and Sakura'll never forget."
"I DON'T THINK SO!" Dr. Kuerha declared as she came down with a bunch of swords. "I'LL EAT YOU GUYS BEFORE YOU CAN EAT HIM!"
"SCARY HAG!" Luffy and Sanji yelled and took off sprinting after Chopper, with Dr. Kureha hot on their heels. Once they were gone, Nami was relieved.
"I don't care about food. I just want some peace and quiet." She stated. She then notices s a cold chill coming in the doorway, making her a little puzzled.
"Snow? But that shouldn't be inside the castle." She stated. She then slipped off from under the covers. "I'll close the door.
"No... You need to stay in bed." A voice ordered her. She looks up to see Chopper returning. "After all, you still have a fever."
"I don't think so," Said Nami. "It seems like it's pretty much gone now." She said as Chopper was looking around and sees nobody is chasing him.
"I lost them." Chopper stated. "At least for now. "Doctorine's medicine's works quickly to reduce the fever," Chopper said. "But the bacteria from the Kestia will still remain in your body for a little while longer." Chopper finally shut the open door but not before checking outside it. "So just take your anti-biotic shot and stay in bed." He said while closing the door..
"Thank you," Nami said.
"Hmm?" Chopper hummed.
"You're the one who's been taking care of me, aren't you?" Nami asked. Chopper backed away while Nami smiles at him. Chopper's expression changed from confusion to a glare.
"SHUT UP!" Hearing his outburst surprised Nami. "I don't need thanks from you two or any other lowlife human!" Chopper suddenly gets shy. "Hahaha!" Then he went back to anger. "Don't mock me!" Then he went back to a happy dance. Oh, never mind that I'm just being silly! No, seriously! I'm being such a fool!" Nami then sweat drops.
"He's not good at hiding his emotions, is he?" she asked. Suddenly, Chopper got closer to her.
"Is it true that you guys are pirates?" he asked.
"Yep" Nami nodded.
"Really? Real pirates?" He asked.
"Real pirates." The girl confirmed.
So you have a flag with a skull on it?" Chopper asked.
"We do," Nami said. "It's on our ship... so you're really interested in pirates." Chopper backed away into a bookshelf, making books fall on him.
"NOT AT ALL! YOU IDIOT! SHUT UP!" Nami pushed some covers out while laughing nervously.
"Alright, alright, I get it... Now calm down." Chopper was taking some deep breaths. "But one more thing... do you want to come with us?" Hearing that made Chopper gasp. "You can come sail with us out in the ocean. If you did... that would really help us out a lot. Not to mention my friend Sakura. She is a medic but she needs to learn more. If you learned from Dr. Kurerha... she can learn from you!"
"No!" Chopper shouted. . "That's crazy I'm a reindeer! I don't belong on a ship with a bunch of humans." he sadly muttered. Hearing that shocked Nami. She shoots Chopper a caring glance."I'm a reindeer that can walk and talk and walk around on two legs and...and animals aren't supposed to do that stuff..."
"I know... but if you're trying to scare me off, it isn't working."
"But I have a blue nose." Nami was silent. She had no idea what to say or how to convince him to join them.
"Look just because you have a blue nose or walk like a human doesn't mean you're not cool." Usopp turns around to see Naruto and Sakura returning. Sakura sits next to Nami's bed while Naruto stands next to the reindeer.
"In Mine and Sakura's world, it's not about whether you're human, an animal, or something totally different. What counts is your heart and what you do."
Sakura smiled, her eyes radiating warmth and support. "We've gone through all sorts of challenges and met many people along the way. But what truly matters is the connection we have and the trust we share. You belong in that, Chopper." Chopper felt touched by their words. It causes him to wonder... should he leave all this behind. After what his master worked for.
"There you are, Meat!" Luffy yelled! He and Sanji finally spotted the reindeer, which made the poor little guy take off glanced over at the chaos, looking a bit baffled. "I blinked... what happened?" he said, his forehead creased with curiosity. Sakura shrugged her arms.
"Those brats sure can run, can they?." Naruto, Sakura and Nami heard Dr. Kurehra come in to join them.
"I don't like much of what you were doing there, girl. Trying to take my reindeer away from me without my permission."
"What? I need your permission to make a move on a man all of a sudden?" Nami asked. Dr. Kureha laughed at Nami's joke. "No, I suppose you don't. If you want him away from me, go ahead, but I must warn you, it won't be as easy as you think."
"What do you mean?" Naruto asked.
"Chopper has a scar in his heart." The doctorine answered. Chopper has a scar on his heart, a deep one my medicine can't cure. From the moment he was born, everyone including his parents turn their backs on him."
"What?" Naruto was shocked.. no more disgusted so he slammed the table. "How could any parent abandon their own child?"
"Calm down, Naruto, let her explain more." Sakura said, getting up and gently pushing her boyfriend back into his seat. "Sorry.. he had a rough childhood too." Kurehra nodded in understanding. They both listen to the doctor continued her story."All because he was born with a blue nose. He was forced to walk at the back of the group, separated from the rest of the reindeer, even though he was just a helpless newborn. "Then one day, he ate a Devil fruit, and he became even more of an outcast than he had been before. The other reindeer pressure him to leave the herd, his blue nose already made him different, but now he wasn't like the ordinary reindeer at all. Still, he was lonely and wanted friends. So, he down to a village walking on two legs as humans do."
"Luffy..." Sanji said while trying to warm up. "Check out that door in the front entrance. "It's wide open..." Luffy turns his head sees that Sanji was right.
"With it open like that, there's not much difference between inside and outside of the castle."
"Well, anyway... let's close it..." He suggested. Luffy nodded in agreement and walks to the door.
"HEY! STOP IT! DON'T TOUCH THAT DOOR! GET AWAY!" They both looked up to see Chopper up, protesting it. Sanji turns to Luffy.
Never mind him, let's close it." Sanji told him. "And we're gonna freeze to death."
"That's a good point." Luffy agrees and walks over to close
"STOP! DIDN'T YOU GUYS HEAR WHAT I SAID?!"Chopper shouted and then transformed into his human form, smashing through the rails, which made Luffy leap in surprise.
"What is with this guy?! What the hell is he so angry about?!" He asked. Sanji narrowed his eyes then he takes out a cigarette.
"Look up there." He said. Luffy looked up and gasped. There was a nest of baby birds chirpping. Seeing that they now know, Chopper walked away.
"It's a bunch of baby snowbirds. I see, if we close the door, they'd fall."
"So that's the reason their leaving it open." Luffy said. Suddenly something came back to him. "Hey, Sanji?"
"Hmm?"
"Did that reindeer just talk?"
"Not that you mention it, I remember him walking on two legs too."
"HE'S A MONSTER!" Sanji and Luffy both shouted in unison and sharp teeth.
"Okay, let's get this straight, he walks upright and talks!"
"But not human!"
"Has fur!"
"He's little!"
"And becomes big!"
"CLEARLY A MONSTER!" Chopper heard what they said and it hurts them even worse when they were trying to eat him so he walked away. What he didn't know is that Luffy was bursting with excitement.
"What a cool guy. He's a monster like Naruto!" He state as he pounds his fists with excitement. "Hey, wait! I know, he should join us!"
Luffy: C'mon little guy, join my crew.
Naruto: Easy there, Luffy. This little guy's been having a rough time.
Sakura: Yeah, he had a sad backstory.
Dr. Kurehra: Naruto, Sakura... did you eat something peculiar.
Sakura: WHAT? WE ATE WHAT?!"
Chopper: Wapol is back!
Naruto: On the next Shiniboi X Strawhat... Naruto and Sakura's new power... Wapol returns I am gonna be Hokage!
Luffy: And I am gonna be King of the Pirates!
Welp... Luffy wants Chopper to join his crew. The question is... will the Reindeer take it? I guess we'll find out. I based the "I've been falling for him?" Off of Fullmetal Alchemist when Winry asked if she is falling for Ed. In this fic, Nami realizes it here. How will Luffy react? We'll find out soon enough.
