Chapter 8
Sasuke's voice was calm, steady. "They really like those plushies."
Hinata turned to him, a little surprised that he had spoken first. But she nodded.
"Mhm. They see them as heroes." Her eyes flickered toward Naruto, who was currently being tackled by a group of laughing kids. "Their stories live on in little things like that. It gives them comfort."
Sasuke glanced at the children again. He had never cared for things like this—his past, his actions, his reputation. Yet, somehow, his image had become something that even children admired.
"I never thought my Susanoo would be made into a toy." His tone was flat, but there was a slight edge of bemusement.
Hinata giggled lightly. "It does look strong and protective. Maybe they feel safe with it."
Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "Safe?"
Hinata nodded. "Children don't see it the way shinobi do. To them, your Susanoo isn't a tool for battle—it's a guardian. A powerful companion."
Sasuke thought about that for a moment. A guardian. He had spent years destroying things, yet somehow, he was now being seen as something that protected. He let out a small, almost imperceptible sigh. "Strange."
Hinata smiled. "I think it suits you."
Sasuke glanced at her, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Hn."
A moment passed, then Hinata added, "You know… you made that little girl's entire day."
Sasuke gave a skeptical look. "Over a small chakra trick?"
Hinata nodded. "To her, it wasn't small. You should visit more often. There are plenty of children here who like your Susanoo."
Sasuke sighed. "Like you?"
Hinata's lips parted slightly in surprise. Then— A soft, unexpected laugh escaped her.
Sasuke's expression didn't change, but the corner of his mouth twitched just barely. For a moment, they stood there, watching Naruto get dragged into yet another ridiculous game. And for the first time in a long while, Sasuke didn't mind the company.
