Yoshino's POV

After Yoshinon's awakening, the two of us got to know each other. I told her the truth about myself - about my past life as Fuyu Hana and how I died and reincarnated into Yoshino, pretty much replacing her consciousness. Surprisingly, she just brushed, saying that as far as she's concerned, I am now Yoshino Himekawa. And well, I suppose she does have a point. While I do feel sorry for the actual Yoshino for pretty much stealing her life from her, there's nothing that can be done.

Only thing I can do... is use my new life to bring this world to a happier ending than canon.

After our talk, I decided that my next step would be to learn more about my powers. In the manga and the anime, Yoshino's tell that she's appeared is that a rainstorm always seems to form. Anyone smart enough to keep track of the weather would use this to know that I had appeared, regardless of if I travelled through a spacequake or not. I need to learn to control my powers to make sure that doesn't happen, which will make things easier moving forward.

Let's see... All Spirits' powers are connected to their Sephira Crystal. Perhaps I will figure something out if I focus onto it.

"What are ya thinkin', partner?" Yoshinon asks.

I glance at my companion. "Yoshinon, I'm going to try meditating to see if that'll help with my powers. I need you to be quiet while I meditate, okay?"

"Aye sir!" Yoshinon salutes. What are you, Happy?

Chuckling at that little bit, I sit down with crossed legs, close my eyes, and begin meditating, trying to focus a pathway to my Sephira Crystal.

Rather unexpectedly, I found my consciousness being pulled into the Crystal itself. Opening my eyes, I found myself floating in an ethereal blue realm.

"This is..." I was at a loss of words as to where I am.

"Partner, are you alright!?" I was startled by a voice shouting next to me. Turning my body towards the voice, I see that it was actually Yoshinon, who wasn't connected to my hand, interestingly enough.

"Oh, it's you, Yoshinon." I put a hand on my chest to calm myself.

"Yep, it's Yoshinon!" Yoshinon flips around. "So, where are we? I knew you were meditating, but I didn't expect to be pulled in with you."

"I didn't expect this myself." I admit. "I can only guess that this is a spiritual space made by the Crystal."

A light shines in the corner of my eye and grabs my attention. Turning my head towards it, I see a small blue crystal floating a bit of distance away.

"Whoa, is that that Sephira Crystal that gives you your powers?" Yoshinon asks, awed by the crystal.

I, too, was lost in its beauty for a bit before I regained my concentration and floated towards. Reaching my hand out to it, I was suddenly stopped by a large, flat circle that made me flinch my hand back. It resembles a shield, comprised of many small blue rings. Each ring has many symbols inside, just as blue as the rings themselves. These symbols.

"What the heck is this?" Yoshinon asks, floating over my shoulder to look at the symbols.

"...I think this is Zadkiel's code." I say, looking at the symbols. They seem... familiar. "And these symbols... the Celestial Alphabet?"

"Celestial what?"

"The Celestial Alphabet, or otherwise known as the Angelic Script. It was a language made by scholars studying angelic kingdoms, specifically Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa in the 16th century. It was invented in order to communicate with angels and it was later claimed that these symbols were sent 'by God', given to angels, and then passed along to humans." How fitting, considering Mio is essentially the God of Date A Live. Heck, the Spirits' weapons are literally called 'Angels' and are named after real Angels from the Bible.

"Okay... So, can you read it?"

"I believe I know enough to be able to read all this. Let's see..."

I hold my hands out and I close my eyes, focusing onto the crystal. The words began to appear in my mind and I use my knowledge to try and decipher them letter by letter.

It took some time, but I've read enough to get a general idea of how my powers work, and it was pretty much stuff I already knew. First off, Reiryoku works based on the emotional state - the more unstable our emotions are, the more out of control our powers become. This was pretty much the reason for Operation Date a Live, to help stabilize the spirits emotions, and thus, stabilize their powers enough to seal them.

Also, our powers act to reflect our current mental state, which also lines up with my current knowledge. The constant rain whenever Yoshino appears symbolizes her loneliness, and her tendency freeze everything when she loses Yoshinon shows how unstable she is without her.

So, the solution is pretty simple. If I stabilize my emotions, I can fully control my powers even without being sealed. It sounds like a tall order since the Spirits don't have the best pasts... some worse than others (Yoshino is definitely up there, but I admittedly think Natsumi had it worse.), but I'm sure meditation would help. Of course, I need to be sealed to advance the plot when canon rolls around, so this will just be a temporary fix.

Second, Reiryoku is actually quite flexible. From what I can tell, Angels are like batteries. They produce energy and send it to the Sephira Crystal, and the crystal turns that energy into Reiryoku and sends it to the Spirit. Ultimately, how that Reiryoku is used is dependent on the Spirit, meaning that as long as it is something reasonable and within our given set of abilities, the only limit to what we can do is our imagination.

All Spirits have an innate mastery of their powers when they receive them, but this tells me what I wanted to confirm. That they can be improved upon.

I've been thinking about it, but Yoshino's ability to control water in all three of its forms holds a lot of potential, but due to her personality, there was no way to explore that potential.

However, I am now Yoshino, and these are now my powers, meaning I can use them however I want.

I can already feel the ideas floating around in my head. This is going to be fun. Fufufu...

"What's up, partner?" I hear Yoshinon call me and open my eyes to look at her. "You were smirking there for a moment. Didja figure anything out?"

Since I was pretty much done, I decide to move my hands away from my Sephira Crystal. "Yeah, I pretty much have an idea of how to use my powers. Let's head back."

"Aye!"

Returning to my body, I open my eyes and begin deciding what to do next. "So, what now, partner?" Yoshinon asks.

"Well, we should probably head back to the Human World." I suggest. "If we stay here any longer, we'll be back there through a Spacequake."

"Okay, but how do we do that?" Yoshinon asks.

I think about Yoshinon's question. "Hmm, Tohka was able to do it through her desire to want to see Shido again, but there's nothing in the Human World that would make us desire to return."

"Hmm, how about focusing your Reiryoku to form a pathway to the Human World?" Yoshinon suggests.

"...That could actually work."

With a nod, I focus my Reiryoku towards Earth, and felt myself disappear.

When I reappeared, I found myself in an alleyway. "Hmm, looks like it worked." I say. I then look up and see that it's sunny. "No rain, either. Perfect, that means the AST won't be suspicious."

"Yeah, but they'll certainly be suspicious if they hear about a little girl walking around in a rain coat when it's sunny." Yoshinon makes a remark about my appearance.

"Good point, but that should be a quick fix." I close my eyes and focus my Reiryoku again, this time to change my appearance. My Astral Dress dispersed into mana and for a brief moment, I felt naked, before the feeling of clothes on my person returned once more.

Opening my eyes, I then focus a small bit of my power to create a reflective mirror of ice to get a good look at myself. My Astral Dress has changed into a more simple outfit, consisting of a blue dress and a green hat with a pink ribbon. The only constant in my appearance is Yoshinon, but her speaking can be passed as ventriloquism, which she is now aware of so she won't cause a fuss. Overall, my current look should ensure I don't stand out too much, unless I have a hardcore stalker like Mana is to Kurumi.

"Wow! Looking good, partner!" Yoshinon praises me. "Definitely a cutie!"

I blush a bitat Yoshinon's comment, but I do agree that I look good. Pleased with myself, I dispel the ice mirror and walk out into the city. I had no clear destination, so I think I'll just go to the park.

?'s POV

Looks like today is another pleasant day.

Since it's Saturday, perhaps I should go and visit Sawa. Today, nice enough for us to hang out, assuming no Spirits appear to ruin it.

Just I finish that though, I briefly notice a flash of blue light coming from an alleyway. Feeling suspicious, I go over to investigate. When I take a peek, I see a little girl with blue hair and eyes and a white rabbit hand puppet on her left hand. What's she doing here all by herself? Doesn't she have any parents, or even a guardian?

My eyes widen when I see her create a mirror of ice, presumably to look at herself. Those ice powers... I've never encountered anyone with powers like that. Is she a Spirit? Why does she look human?

"Wow! Looking good, partner!" The rabbit speaks, furthering my surprise. "Definitely a cutie!"

The little girl blushes a bit, but afterwards dispels the ice. I quickly hide as she comes out of the alleyway and watch her head off to somewhere. Is that little girl truly a Spirit, or is the Spirit actually that puppet, and it's actually controlling the little girl?

Regardless, I decide to follow behind her. All I know is if she causes any trouble, then I'll put her down.

Yoshino's POV

Looking at the city without it raining, it really it quite beautiful. Tohka is right. When you look at the beauty the world has to offer, you can kind of understand why the AST want to kill you. But even still, coexistence is an option, and as long as Spirits don't cause too major problems, it should be fine.

Though, thinking about it more, that likely won't happen as long as Wescott is still around. Him and Ellen are the ones I need to really watch out for.

I decide to think about another topic while walking around, mainly about how everyone else is doing.

From what I remember, Nia was the first of the heroine's to be made into a Spirit my Mio, and has been for 27 years before canon, which is why she is called the Second Spirit. She's also the Spirit that represents Chokmah, the second branch of the Sephira Tree, so it's more accurate to say she's the Second Spirit in both names.

The other time points I remember are Yoshino having been a Spirit for 26 years as stated by Kotori during Yoshino's arc, then Kurumi becoming a Spirit a year after, Kotori becoming a Spirit during the Tengu Fire, which was 5 years before canon, Miku becoming been a Spirit for about a year since the beginning of her arc, and we literally see Origami become a Spirit during her arc. That's all the ones I have a clear memory of. The rest are just theories, but they had to have become Spirits within the timeframe of Kurumi's conversion and Kotori's conversion, with the exception being Tohka, who was most likely created close to the beginning of canon.

So the question is, how far back am I? Has Mio turned anyone else into a Spirit at this point, or are Nia and I currently the only other Spirits?

"What'cha thinkin' about now, partner?" Yoshinon asks, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I take a quick look around to see if there would be anyone listening, everyone seemed focused on their own thing, so I answer Yoshinon. "I'm wondering if there are any other Spirits currently around."

"What about that Nia girl? She's certain to be around."

"Yes, but I imagine she'll be quite difficult to find unless she uses Future Entry to arrange a meeting between us."

Nia's POV

"Achoo!"

I quickly pause my game before letting out a sneeze. Someone's talking about me, huh? I wonder who?

I could just use Rasiel to find out who... but nah.

Yoshino's POV

I decide to take the scenic route through the forest, taking in the beauty of nature. However, at the same time...

"Hey, partner, does it feel like someone's following us?" Yoshinon asks. So, she feels it, too.

Taking a stop, I turn around to see if there was anyone following. Sure enough, someone was, but who it was surprises me.

"Kurumi?" I can't help but blurt out.

A girl in a frilly black dress, with black hair that covers her left eye, and her visible right eye being red.

Kurumi Tokisaki. The most popular girl in the Date A Live series. But, why is she here? Why is she following me?

"Oh? How is it that you know my name?" She asks with suspicion, her visible eye narrowing at me.

I mentally curse as I realize that there's no way Kurumi and Yoshino have met before canon. "Um, well, you see..."

I try to think of an excuse, but Yoshinon beat me to it. "Yoshino just so happpens to be a fan of yours! She really likes your work!"

"A fan of mine, you say?" Kurumi questions. "I wasn't aware I had any fans. Or that she knew about what I do. As far as everyone else is aware, I'm just an ordinary high school girl. Unless you're talking about my duty to kill Spirits."

Wait, that means this is around the time that Mio was using Kurumi to help refine the Sephira Crystals.

"How exactly would you know about that, unless you're a Spirit yourself?"

I can feel the rising tension in the air. This isn't good... "Um, well..."

"I don't know what your plan is, Spirit, but I won't let you cause any harm! Elohim!"

Shadows emerge from around Kurumi and surround her body, replacing her current uniform with her Astral Dress - a Gothic Lolita dress with crimson and black frills and a red and black collar on her neck. She also wears a big crimson net bow to hold her hair, which has been made into uneven twin tails, with the left one being longer, now revealing her signature clock eye.

"Crap. Sorry, partner. Should've thought of a better excuse." Yoshinon apologizes.

"It's fine. You were just trying to help." I assure her, my eyes staying on Kurumi as she summons her guns. "Right now, we're gonna have to fight. El!"

I quickly change back into my own Astral Dress and prepare myself. I never thought I would have to fight anyone this soon. And it's Kurumi on top of that. I prepare myself as this will no doubt be a tough battle.

I honestly have no idea if this is how Sephira Crystals work, but I think I'm allowed some creative liberties.

Also, we're not given a clear timeframe as to when all the heroines became Spirits. We have dates for some, such as the ones listed above, but it's hard to find an exact date for the others, assuming than Mukuro, Natsumi and the Yamai twins were made into Spirits between Yoshino and Kotori. Again, this allows for some more creative liberties, which of course, led to an unexpected encounter with Kurumi.

Anyway, it looks like Yoshino's already in trouble as she's stuck having to fight Kurumi over a misunderstanding. She'll have to learn her new powers in a trial of fire! But, that'll have to be next chapter!
