Note: Today marks one year since the end of the Hilda series. Damn, I've been very behind this fanfic. I expected at least to reach season two by the middle of 2024, but I've been slow as hell. With the new games I've been receiving these past few months, I've been away from writing. Even drawing keeps me away. But hey, I hope this season 1 Hilbert edition and Eversing Mirror rewrite gets done by this month before I go on vacation. Season 2 should start before 2025 begins. Thank you, Hilda. 2018-2023.
Hilda couldn't believe her eyes. All those myths, news reports, and rumors; The Black Hound was real after all. She didn't even care that David was yanking her away, but what made her snap back to reality was that Frida was pushed toward the beast.
"You snooze, you lose, Frida!" Kelly cried.
Frida looked back as the marra group faded away. Luckily, Hilda pulled her away before she got bitten. As the three ran for their lives, they ended up bumping into a familiar face.
"OW! What the hell?!"
Hilda and the others couldn't believe it. "Vivian?! What are you doing here?"
"I'm working, Hilda," the red-haired girl grunted. "I was looking for Hilbert since I heard something happened to him, and I instead run into you three."
"Look, no time for scolding!" Frida cried. "You got to warn everybody about the Black Hound. Everyone's gonna die if we don't get out of here!"
"The Black Hound?! I knew that runt was around here! Don't worry, guys! You get your things while I sound the alarms!" Vivian ran to the location where Raven Leader was while the brat pack went back to their tents.
"Huh? Who are you?" the woman asked.
"No time! The Black Hound is nearby! He is here!"
Some growling can be heard. Raven Leader sounds the alarms to wake the others. "Attention, everyone. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are breaking camp early. We will do so in a calm orderly—"
"RUN EVERYBODY, RUN! THE BLACK HOUND IS HERE! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" Vivian cried.
The children ran in various directions trying to pack their stuff. In a tent, David was struggling to pack his bag. Frida couldn't help but feel regretful due to what she did. Thankfully, she lent a hand after David let her do so. "Hey, I wish I got the courage to tell off Kelly and the others like that. You were brave."
"You know what can I say? Those morons really think they can manipulate you and get away with it. They aren't true friends of yours."
Frida rubbed her elbow. "Hey, I want to apologize for being such a dick. It wasn't fair for me to be aggressive to you and Hilda. I should have kept my mouth shut. I can't believe I almost lost you two thanks to a stupid book."
Now it was David's turn to comfort her. "Hey, don't blame yourself on this. You were just feeling conflicted. It's hard for someone to handle all of this. Fights can commonly happen to everyone, even with their close friends. Believe me, I've been there. But even though you aren't as perfect as you claim to be, that doesn't mean you're meaningless. You'll find your true calling one day. You're still Frida, you're my best friend."
As tears escaped from her eyes, Frida couldn't help but hug her friend. David was surprised by this sudden action. She had a lot of emotional baggage to let out. Their moment was interrupted when Hilda and Vivian barged in.
"But what about Tontu? I can't just leave him out there!"
"I'll go get him. Raven Leader won't let you go out there, plus Johanna would be worried for you!" Vivian argued.
"Do you even know what he looks like?" Hilda asked in worry.
"Yeah, I ran into him one day. I'll get him safe. You go pack up your stuff along with the others." Vivian nodded.
Hilda had to agree since she had no choice. Vivian dashed to the forest while avoiding Raven Leader's sight. It didn't take too long for her to reach the campfire where David and Hilda resided on. But what made it complicated was that the Black Hound was nearby. The girl hid behind some trees to avoid being spotted. Sadly, Tontu wasn't here. "Damn it! If Hilbert were here, he would have a useful invention to find him. Speaking of which, where is he?"
Back with Kelly and the other teenage girls, they poofed back to Trolberg. Everyone sighed in relief, knowing they wouldn't be turned into dog food.
"I can't believe we all survived that!" Shenzi laughed. "We almost got slaughtered there!"
"Good thing we left those brats in the forest to be devoured," Hazel commented.
"Yeah…" Kelly was unsure, knowing that the Black Hound will still go after them even when the three kids are hunted down.
"You know, we should have that beast killed so we can get the reward money," Chloe theorized. "Not afraid to get my hands dirty."
Shenzi felt a lightbulb light up above her. "I know exactly how we can catch it."
"How? We don't have any weapons… yet." Kelly asked.
"We won't need to, not if we got bait! Follow me."
The girls followed the twin tailed marra on an unspecified location. Shenzi unlocked the combination on her locker. Inside it was Hilbert, tied up. "Get me the hell out of here!"
The girls clapped, understanding what Shenzi meant. Kelly grabbed the boy. "You got no idea what we got in store for you. Better prepare it!"
Shenzi pulled out a burlap sack. "Let's put this egghead in here. It makes it easier to hide him, so we won't get arrested again."
Kelly tried to put the boy in, but he was resisting. "Get in the damn sack!"
"No!"
Suddenly, the boy shouted in pain before he went unconscious. Apparently, Shenzi used a taser on the boy. "Ugh, he was getting on my nerves."
"Let's just get this over with so we can get the reward money!" Kelly complained.
The next morning, Spark was quite stressed. His master hasn't been seen since last night. It's not like he would hang out this late with Vivian, that would be against his will. There must be something up. But Johanna would flip if she found out! Spark had no choice but to make sure she didn't find out. Once the mother bid the brat pack farewell, she went to check up on her son. She was interrupted when she noticed Spark standing in front of her. "Hey, Spark. How is Hilbert?"
Spark avoided looking suspicious. "He went out with Vivian. They went together on the forest since Hilbert wanted to test another invention of his."
Johanna rolled her eyes. "Of course he is. Hey, when you get the chance, could you make sure he comes back safely? I heard the Black Hound is still out there."
"Yeah, I can promise that. I'll go look for him now." Spark was accompanied by Twig and Alfur. "You're coming with me, too?"
"Of course!" Alfur cleaned his hat. "Normally, we would join Hilda at a time like this, but we want to check up how Hilbert is doing."
Spark headed out the door. "Well, let's get going. We should check up on Vivian since she might have a clue where he is."
The trio of misfits dashed out of the apartment to locate the redhead. Fortunately, she was walking around Trolberg Plaza, trying to locate her friend. However, she saw her allies. "Oh, hello!"
"Vivian! Have you seen Hilbert anywhere?" Alfur exclaimed.
"Sadly, I didn't. I thought you guys knew," Vivian looked around. "I know he doesn't like getting dragged along on adventures, but this is odd how Hilda hasn't even seen him."
Spark knew he could at least count on Vivian to understand. "Well, we could just find him by ourselves. The last place I saw him was in the apartment. He was getting pulled by something furry."
Vivian's eyes widened. "Did it have a shirt, a tail, a body, and can talk?"
"I think so. Why?"
Alfur started to realize what they were talking about. "It must be a nisse! Hilda's mother told us about it and to avoid them! You think Hilbert got dragged by them?"
Vivian was unsure. "He could be anywhere. Any chance to find him won't be easy."
Spark stepped forward. "Not to worry about that, everyone. I have a tracker on Hilbert that has recently been updated. It will help us locate where he is."
Vivian nodded. "Well, let's go look for him. We can't waste any chances."
The group of four started to notice several adults roaming around Trolberg. They were members of a safety patrol. They were carrying guns, swords, hats, and things they needed for protection. Alfur was astonished with the increased security. "Those guys are taking their job seriously."
"I'll say," Vivian added. "They helped my dad out of a jam when he got trapped by several metal pipes collapsed on him!"
"Well, let's have them avoid knowing about Hilbert's disappearance. Mom has already got enough to worry about!" Spark beamed.
In the streets of Trolberg, Hilda was determined to earn another badge. Ever since she got her first official one (unintentionally), she has been planning to get another one to make her mother proud. But it proved to be quite a challenge for her. The girl won't give up as long as she has Frida and David on her side. After a brief run-in with Kelly, Hilda just remembered that she had to look for Tontu to prove his innocence. But that wasn't easy since there were either flukes or look-alike nisse that were also banished from their homes. Worse yet, they all blamed each other for being kicked out. But after looking around, the bell rang, and it was already too late for Hilda to earn another badge, disappointing her. But what made her more curious was the fact that she didn't see Hilbert at all. Where is he? Normally, he would be in his room tinkering with his inventions, but nothing's been exploding or created lately. Did something take him?
As she entered the apartment that night, she had the sudden urge to enter Hilbert's room so she could check up on him. However, she kept hesitating, knowing that he might still be pissed off at what she said to him in their latest argument. Her thoughts were interrupted when Johanna came by. "Hilda, why don't you go to bed? I'll talk to him."
The kid made a soft nod. "Thanks, mom."
Johanna entered the room. She noticed that her "son" was tucked up with his blanket. Luckily, since the floor was cleaned up, the mother didn't have any difficulty sitting on his bed. "Sweetheart, are you alright?"
There was no response.
"I just want to say goodnight. And that, we love you. I know you are upset. You don't always get along with your sister, but it is common for siblings to do that. You are a special boy, and she is quite an adventurer. You might not go well together but you need to depend on each other since she might be all you got. Please forgive Hilda from your latest argument,"
Johanna started walking to the door. She looked back to see that the bed had made no movement. She closed the door after bidding her "kid" good night.
The following day, the group of marra were hanging out in Kelly's house. They were deciding on how to trick the Black Hound so they can trap it and present it to Trolberg to get the reward money. Shenzi suggested using a fishing pole to attach Hilbert so that it can try to jump into a cage. Hazel argued that they should tie Hilbert into dynamite so that the Black Hound would faint from the explosion. Nobody heard the rumbling that was in the distance.
"Hey, I know what we can do!" Kelly snapped her fingers.
"What do you have in mind?" Jennifer asked.
"Let's use my dad's truck. We can use it to lure the animal to safety patrol so they can paralyze it," Kelly grabbed the keys of the truck. "Come on. Grab the bait and let's go!"
Shenzi and Jennifer grabbed Hilbert and put him on the back of the truck while the girls went to their seats. They eventually drove off so they could start their plan into action. It didn't take long for them to find the Black Hound since he was busy scratching his back against a tall tree. The creature growled when he noticed Hilbert. Soon, the chase was on. Hilbert screamed while he was almost eaten at times. People from Trolberg were either run over by the truck or stomped the Black Hound. Even some members of the safety patrol were struggling to catch the beast.
Vivian and the others were walking around previous locations that Hilda and the others visited. "Well, that checks out the graveyard. Hilbert is not in any of these places!"
"Are you sure Hilbert is around here, Spark?" Alfur asked.
"I just don't understand. I recharged myself in the morning!"
Twig heard some rumbling on the ground. He hid behind Vivian in fear.
"What's wrong, boy?"
They soon got their answer when a truck headed in their direction. To make matters worse, the Black Hound revealed itself.
"HOLY CRAP, IT'S REAL!" Alfur cried.
They barely got hit, but some screaming caught their attention.
"Was that Hilbert?!" Alfur cried.
"I think so! Let's go after them!" Spark and others followed the truck.
"Kelly, look out!" Shenzi cried.
The truck and the Black Hound ended up going through a building. Strangely enough, it didn't break down. The girls were shocked that they were inside Nowhere Space.
"Where the hell is this?" Hazel cried.
"Don't ask! Just drive!" Shenzi responded.
Hilbert kept screaming while he was almost eaten by the Black Hound. Suddenly, the truck ended up hitting a Nisse. The girls screamed, thinking it was a giant cockroach. Everyone reached inside the hall where the Sparrow Scouts were. Hilda and everyone else's eyes widened when they witnessed this happen. But the big takeaway was the Black Hound when it stood up. Tontu grabbed Hilda and fled with her through Nowhere Space. The truck that the girls were driving on stopped working. Johanna walked up to the driver's seat and grabbed Kelly by the collar of her shirt. "Where the hell is my daughter?"
The teenage girl was too afraid to answer. The cops showed up and arrested Kelly and her friends. As they were getting hauled into the police van, Frida raised a hand. "Wait. I want a word with Kelly."
Kelly grunted as her hands were chaffing from the cuffs. "This better be quick."
Frida gave her former friend a scorn look. "You honestly had this coming, Kelly. You first manipulated me into believing Hilda and David were bad influences, then you assaulted some kids, and you almost got me killed by that monster."
"You Sparrow Scout suckers deserve it. Not my fault you don't what's going to happen in the real world. Everyone you'll trust will be a bastard to you, you'll be manipulated more often than when you realize it!"
Kelly was tasered when she tried to bite Frida's nose. Soon, the teenage girl was stuffed inside the van, which her and other marra were hauled off to a juvenile detention center. David went up to his friend. "Are you ok, Frida?"
"I'm fine, David. That bastard teen is going to get what she deserves."
They were interrupted by some coughing. Everyone ran up to the debris, which revealed Vivian, Twig, Alfur, and Spark.
"Vivian!" Johanna, David, and Frida cried as they helped her and the others out of the rubble.
Spark hoped on top of the debris when he heard some coughing. He located the source. "Hilbert!"
Johanna's motherly instincts kicked in. She located her boy and untied him. "Hilbert?!"
Hilbert recovered from being dizzy. "Mom? Is that you?"
Johanna wasted no time to hug him tight. David and Frida helped Vivian get up while Twig trotted to Johanna and grabbed her attention.
"I don't mean to disrupt your reunion, but we got to stop that Black Hound! He's going to eat Hilda!" Alfur panicked.
"Damn, that dog is huge!" Vivian cried.
"Where would the Black Hound end up on?" David asked.
Johanna's eyes widened. "OUR APARTMENT!"
"We have to get there to save Hilda!" Frida exclaimed.
Everyone made a mad dash to Johanna's car. After carrying her boy, she put him next to her on the front seat while the other children sat in the back. Thankfully, Twig, Alfur, and Spark were able to fit inside. It was a hard drive since the road was cluttered with safety patrol. Thankfully, they knew where to go based on the three screaming people running outside the apartment. By the time they reached the apartment, it was an appalling sight. Hilda was standing in front of a giant black dog with two nisse in front of them.
"HILDA!" Johanna ran and gave her daughter a hug. "Thanks heavens you are alright!"
David yelped when he saw Jellybean. Frida comforted him, letting him know he is tame now since he no longer looked terrifying. Vivian was bewildered that his friend started to mumble gibberish.
"It's ok, everyone! It was Jellybean's doing!" Hilda calmed the others down.
"What are you talking about?" Johanna asked.
Hilda explained that when Jellybean grew up with a nisse, he kept running around Nowhere Space and other houses. This caused destruction to houses, leading to the nisse to be blamed and banished from houses.
"Well, that checks out," Tontu sighed with relief.
Twig whimpered when the noises of safety patrol were heard. Hilda was scared since Jellybean would be harmed for his behavior.
Luckily, Frida had a solution. "You can get Jellybean's owner on the top of the car so that Jellybean can follow him. We will do what we can to stop the safety patrol members from capturing him."
"But how is his owner going to be able to hear him with all these noises?" David asked.
Everyone looked at Hilbert as he was still recovering. "What?"
"Do you still have that megaphone from four years ago?" Johanna asked.
"Yeah. I recently made it bigger. Why?"
The nisse got on Jellybean's head. "We're going to let the dogs out."
Johanna's car was packed by everyone. With Hilbert's megaphone and Frida's duct tape, Jellybean's owner was able to call for her pet to follow her.
"Over here, boy!"
Johanna sped up to the exit of Trolberg while being followed by Jellybean and members of safety patrol. Unfortunately, Jellybean warped to the front of the car, blocking their view.
"Watch out, you're gonna crash!" Frida exclaimed.
David noticed they were going to approach a wall. "AAH!"
"Mother," Vivian muttered.
"Tontu, come up here with me! I got an idea!" Jellybean's owner cried.
After climbing up, both nisse put their plan into action. In no time at all, everyone was warped to Nowhere Space. Jellybean and his owner were swimming around as Johanna's car picked up Tontu to get back to normal land. The two waved goodbye.
Everyone made it back to land. David felt his teeth chatter as Frida held his hand to comfort him. Hilbert still felt dizzy from that wild ride. Hilda and Johanna exited the car to see that they had all made it. Even Tontu was relieved. "Well, that was worth the price of admission."
Frida, Vivian, David and the animal companions managed to exit the car. However, Hilbert's seatbelt was stuck. Suddenly, a piece of the wall crumbled and fell. Johanna panicked since Hilbert was still in the car, but she was unable to make it since she was too far away.
"AGH!" Hilda cried. "Tontu, come on!"
Tontu was grabbed in a rush as Hilda sprinted to the car. The two passed through the car just as the wall piece crushed it. A few seconds later, Hilda passed through the car, carrying his brother.
"Hilbert!" Johanna and Spark cried as they rushed to his aid.
"Speak to us!" Vivian exclaimed.
Hilbert only stared at his sister. "You… just saved my life."
Now Hilda had the chance to properly apologize to her brother. "Yes. But there's something I should get off my chest. I'm sorry for what I said to you and putting you all through this hell."
Hilbert felt sad, knowing his argument with his sister hurt her as much as it hurt him.
"I understand you wouldn't want to forgive me, and I wouldn't want to forgive mysel-"
Hilda was interrupted by a hug from his brother. "I can't stay mad at your forever,"
"You d-don't hate me?"
"Eh, don't read too much into it. Just the regular amount." Hilbert joked.
Johanna smiled from the sidelines as she witnessed her kids make up with each other. Frida, David, and Vivian couldn't help but do the same.
A few hours later, everyone is back in the apartment. The nisse offered to help clean up the mess Jellybean made. As Hilda was stroking Twig's fur, Johanna approached her with her Sparrow Scout sash. "You managed to get a special type of badge. It's unique."
Hilda inspected the badge on her sash. It was handmade and sewed on, which shows Hilda, Johanna, and Hilbert together. She couldn't help but break a smile.
"I know this isn't much, let alone legal, but what I do know is that you are the bravest, most selfless girl the world has ever seen. Don't let anyone change that."
Hilda hugged her mother. "Thanks, Mom."
As for Hilbert, he took some time off from inventing so that he could spend some time with Hilda and Johanna. He was playing some Dragon Panic with Frida, Vivian, and David. The boy groaned playfully when Vivian won. "Agh, there goes my winning streak."
Vivian laughed. "And there begins mine!"
Hilda crouched to the floor. "My turn!"
Johanna picked up her boy. "I'm very proud of you, Hilbert. You took time, but you managed to forgive your sister from your debacle. Not many siblings would do this."
"Thanks, Mom."
Suddenly, Hilbert noticed something on the couch. After widening his eyes, he nudged Hilda's shoulder. "I think that Black Hound dragged something important here."
Once Hilda inspected it, she knew what she had to do. "Uh, Frida. I found something you might want back."
Frida's pupils shrank. It was her lost book: The Legend of Great King Condon. Words cannot describe her excitement. "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! You found it!" The girl held her book in happiness.
Hilda smiled in relief since a huge weight had finally been lifted from their shoulders. She didn't expect Frida to hug her so quickly.
"Thank you so much, Hilda! You have no idea how much this means to me! I'm sorry for yelling at you for that night. I shouldn't have blamed you for losing the book. I know you only wanted to make things right with us."
Hilda smiled. "It's all forgiven, Frida. You shouldn't let something like that drive a wedge between us."
David rubbed his elbow. "I also want to apologize for acting like an ass to you, Frida. I should have been more supportive."
"No worries, David. I know you meant well."
Somewhere outside Trolberg, Jellybean and his owner were trotting around the woods. They ended up running into the Woodman. He was looking at the old home of Hilda.
"What's this?" the nisse asked.
"This was once the home of a girl. She ended up befriending a giant."
The nisse rolled her eyes. "Think she learned her lesson?"
"Not likely. Odds are… she'll do it again."
And with that, the Raven swooped by in the sky. In one section of the destroyed cabin, it shows Hilbert's lost drone and Hilda's old doll. The two objects are close together, signifying a possible reflection to their relationship.
