Note: Starting with the second season, the episodes will be in a different order. It's to balance things out so that certain characters from this season appear more in this story as opposed to appearing only once and having minimal roles in the series. Plus, certain episodes like The Troll Circle (This one) might be split into two parts each to reduce the time of waiting for another chapter. At this point on, I might be writing this on my own since I haven't received any co-writers lately, and the original author of Hilda and Hilbert had not even completed Season 1. Enjoy Season 2.

One morning at Trolberg, Hilbert was eating some pancakes for breakfast. Things have changed for the better or for the worse around this town. Ever since the Black Hound incident, Trolberg has been swarmed around with more safety patrol members to ensure there wouldn't be more incidents. One teen boy was sprayed by a hose of water just for using matches. Hilbert felt relieved that Trolberg was learning to be more protective these days. This didn't seem to be the same case with his sister Hilda. Her opinion on this was quite the opposite since it made all creatures feel less welcome.

"Morning, Mom. Morning, Hilbert." The blue haired brat chirped as she put on her boots while heading out the door. "Sorry I can't eat breakfast with you right now. I got to help out David find his missing stuffed bear."

"Can't he just replace it?" Alfur asked.

"Not likely. David is attached to Warren. He can't sleep without him." Spark answered.

"But won't you go hungry?" Hilbert asked his sister.

"I'll eat some brunch there. There's a new place that opened near there."

"Well, have a good day, Hilda. Stay safe out there." Johanna drank her coffee.

As Hilda and Twig left the house, Hilbert was eating his eggs. His mother couldn't help but ask what he had planned today. "What's in the agenda, Mr. Inventor?"

"Eh, perhaps hang out with Vivian today. I pretty much owe her one for getting me to forgive my sister. It won't hurt to do something with her."

The mother smiled. "That's my boy. Go on and have fun out there."

After finishing breakfast, Hilbert and his companion exited the apartment. Alfur decided to join in as well. "Hope you won't mind; I really get a kick out of that Vivian girl."

"She's Hilda 2.0 for you, is she?" Hilbert rolled his eyes.

"No!" Alfur felt embarrassed. "…Yes."

"I can tell she will feel jealous of that!" Spark chimed in.

As the group of three headed off to find Vivian, they were suddenly squashed by a mattress. Once Hilbert pulled himself together, he recognized that laughter. "God, not him again."

It was revealed that Trevor and his gang were the ones responsible for this trap. "Man, you never fail to keep me laughing!"

"Can this guy ever take a break?" Alfur sighed. "I almost got turned into gum!"

"So, what do we do next, boss?" Kelly asked.

Just as Trevor was about to answer, he noticed something strange behind Hilbert. It had legs and a tail, but surprisingly no face. It looked like it came out of the ground. Trevor noticed a small house, making a grinchy smile. After placing the house into the creature, it started running. The boy and his goons chortled as the elf inside the house began to scream. They headed over to the tavern so that they could laugh off their antics while drinking root beer. Hilbert groaned, but there wasn't much he could do since the creature was running too fast. Before he knew it, Hilda was helping him up. "Are you ok, Hilbert?"

"Yeah. Thanks, Hilda,"

"Why is it carrying a house?" The girl looked over the distance.

"Trevor and his punks placed it over there. There was an elf inside." Spark cleaned himself.

Hilda noticed it was still time to catch up with the land creature so the elf wouldn't be harmed. "Come on, Twig! We must catch him!"

"But what about your thing with David?"

"Don't worry about it! Just let him know that I got to rescue another elf!" The girl and deerfox started their mad dash to reclaim the elf house.

Hilbert couldn't believe Hilda would flake on her friend like that. Thankfully, Vivian was around the corner and met up with her friends. "Hey, guys. What's with the long scratch?"

"It's Trevor. He's at it again," Hilbert grabbed Vivian's hand. "Hilda had to bail on David so she can save an elf from being killed."

Vivian got confused. "Wait, she was going to meet up with David? But he's visiting his aunt this week."

It was Hilbert's turn to be flabbergasted. "Doesn't Hilda already know about this?"

"I did recall David mentioning it to her the last time they saw each other,"

"Hey, Vivian!" Alfur hoped on the top of Hilbert's beret. "How are things going with you?"

"Could be better. I recently lost something special from my mom. I think a nisse stole it."

"Tontu?" Hilbert asked.

"Not likely, he usually hangs around Hilda's place. The one that was around my house looked a bit taller."

"We should go and track it down so we can get your item back!" Spark spoke.

"This can be one of your opportunities to use one of your inventions, Hilbert. It can help me get my special thing back!"

"Are you sure about that?" Hilbert seemed unsure. Last time something like that happened, it did not go so well.

"Not to worry, we can get prepared, so we won't screw up again." Vivian assured as she grabbed Hilbert and sped to her place.

"He still has to get used to this," Spark rolled his eyes as he ran to catch up with the others.

Eleven minutes later, Hilbert and the others walked back to Hilda's apartment. "Thanks for helping me out with that nisse, Hilbert. I'm surprised that only took 11 minutes to do."

"What can I say? We had the advantage at that point." Hilbert's stomach rumbled. "I should probably get going. Mom's getting dinner ready for us."

Vivian made her way home. "See you next time, Hilbert!"

Upon entering the apartment, he noticed his mother pulling out the pie from the oven. "Ah, Hilbert. You're just in time for dinner."

Hilbert couldn't help but smell that delicious food. It's one of his favorites. "I can't wait to try some!"

"Best you wash up, we will have it once your sister gets here."

Hilbert started showering while Spark recharged himself. The boy still had that thought on his head. Why would Hilda fib to her mother about her planned day? Yes, it can be a little white lie, but this wasn't the first time she had done something like this. Upon putting on his clothes, Hilda arrived several minutes late. "Hey, sorry I'm late!"

Johanna looked indifferent toward her daughter. Hilbert couldn't help but do the same. "So, how is David?"

"He's been great. We played around in a fort made of his couch cushions!"

"Must've been one real fun day," Johanna sighed. "Why is there dirt on your sweater?"

Hilda covered her tracks. "We decided to do it outside so we can do some sort of war with our forts."

Just then, the doorbell rang. After Hilbert opened it, a man and a lady came inside. "Sorry to barge in like this, but this is something important you must be informed."

"He seems new," Alfur commented.

"I am Erik Alhberg. Leader of Safety Patrol. Gerda here is my associate." The man introduced himself.

Gerda tipped her hat. "You can call me Deputy."

Erik cleared his throat. "We are here regarding your kids."

Johanna's eyes widened. "Did they do something serious?"

Gerda nodded as Erik continued. "Yes. Apparently, they caused someone to be dead."

Hilda and Hilbert both gasped.

"That's right! Dead serious about congratulating them on winning the essay contest!"

The two children sighed in relief. Johanna was surprised. "Wait, really?"

"Yeah. Normally we would only choose one winner, but we decided to make an exception." Gerda handed her the plaques belonging to her kids.

"Wow, thanks!" Hilbert was astonished. "It's shiny!"

"What kind of essay was it?" Johanna asked.

"Oh, it was about the time they had a near-death experience with a troll," Gerda chirped.

The mother glared at her two children. "Oh, really?"

Hilda nervously laughed while Hilbert whistled innocently.

"I'll say," Erik puffed his chest. "The boy was paralyzed with fear while the girl fought and struggled in a matter of life and death. WHAM! She snatched her notebook before the jaws closed!"

Gerda presented Hilda's drawings. "It looked very stunning, especially Hilbert sucking his thumb in fear."

Yet again, Johanna gave her children a look, before Hilbert glared at his sister for depicting him in such a cowardly manner.

"You know what they say: such is the life on an adventurer. Right, Hilda?" Erik boasted with pride.

"You got that right,"

Gerda winked at Hilbert. "You should learn a thing or two from her."

The boy grumbled to himself while pouting.

"Anyway, since you two won, you get to go on a ride-along with Safety Patrol. You'll be riding a blimp across Trolberg!" Erik presented.

"Provided your mother approves,"

After getting some hopeful looks from her kids, the adult put in her signature. "Very well, then."

Once the safety patrol people left the apartment, Spark couldn't help but giggle at his master's drawing. He held on to his laughter when Hilbert glared at him.

"You know, it's pretty funny that you got scared of something not so fearful." Alfur stifled his laughter.

"Oh, shut up!" Hilbert looked away in embarrassment.

"You two did a grand job on that essay. You could have at least brought my attention on it." Johanna closed the door.

"I would, but I was busy arguing with Mr. Self-Control here,"

Hilbert now got offended. "At least I didn't make myself troll bait,"

Johanna rolled her eyes as the twins started bickering yet again.

The next day, the group of children were walking their way to school. The others were impressed with the twins' accomplishment.

"I still can't believe you were up close and personal on a live troll!" Vivian exclaimed.

Hilbert shrugged. "It was against my will. Not my idea for an essay at first."

"So, what did you two win?" Frida asked.

"They get to go with Safety Patrol to look at the troll defenses," Alfur explained.

"Seems like quite the opportunity," David stated.

"Man, I feel jealous," Vivian muttered.

When they arrived, the kids were surprised to see the size of the blimp.

"Whoa. That is huge," David felt his jaw drop.

"Hilda! Hilbert!" Erik came out of nowhere and picked up the twins. "Here they are!"

Hilda couldn't help but wave goodbye to her friends. David did the same, Frida gave a thumbs up, and Vivian kept jumping with joy.

"You two ready to set for the skies?" The captain asked.

"I guess so," Hilbert couldn't help but feel anxious.

"Relax, Hilbert. It's going to be one hell of a ride there."

Suddenly, the principal appeared and flocked over the captain. He yet again made himself look like a jackass by gloating how dangerous trolls are. The twins rolled their eyes, feeling secondhand embarrassment. The principal left some reminders. "Hilda and Hilbert, you better be on your best behavior! You two shouldn't fight!"

"Not my fault half the place built down," Hilbert muttered.

"You tried to make popcorn with one of your inventions. That earned us seven detentions," Hilda glared.

Erik ended the argument. "Anyway, these two will receive the safety patrol experience. But first, let's get the speech over with."

After climbing aboard the blimp, Erik droned on about promising that he will keep Trolberg safe at all costs. Hilbert couldn't help but notice the crowd before him. Several of the kids were smiling as Frida cheered on. Even Vivian gave a thumbs up for support. But Miss Hallgrim seemed not very pleased. For some reason, Hilbert had a strange feeling about that. He briefly heard the noises of faces getting slapped and bottles being broken in his mind before his sister shook him. "Uh, Hilbert. We need to climb on now."

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Sure."

As the blimp took off in the skies, Hilda was in awe at the sights they were in. Hilbert couldn't help but do the same. Their glee was interrupted when they approached the storm. Erik couldn't help but laugh in the face of danger.

"So, then I said, that's my sister, not my wife!" A weather spirit joked.

The other one laughed in response before he got blown away. "Tell Cindy I love her!"

"Simon! WHY?!" The weather spirit got pissed and zapped the blimp with thunder.

"Damn!" Gerda cried. "The controls won't respond!"

Hilda and Erik were suddenly flying inside the blimp. Hilbert ended up bumping into the controls, causing it to briefly respond. He got an idea and grabbed his wrench. It wasn't easy since the blimp was still falling, but after turning the right bolts, the controls responded. The vehicle managed to float up just in time.

"Is anyone hurt?" Gerda asked the others.

Erik adjusted his hat. "Thankfully not. Thanks for saving us, Gerda."

"Well, I didn't do that. This kid did,"

Hilbert couldn't help but feel shy when Erik looked at him. "How did you that, boy?"

"Well, I have experience with making inventions. Fixing stuff like a blimp is a walk on the park."

Erik couldn't help but give a smile. "Good work, my boy."

"Sir, do you believe we should conclude this airbone inspection?" Gerda interrupted.

"Er, yes. Best we don't include this in the report."

As the blimp floated normally in the air, a window was hit. "I'll check it out," Hilda volunteered.

It was Raven! He came to check on Hilda since he witnessed her inside the blimp earlier. "Boy, that was quite the spark you had earlier!"

Hilda rolled her eyes as she pulled Raven out of the window. "Raven, what's going on with you?"

"Well, I've been flying around other towns to avoid trolls. Word around here is that they became more active these days."

Hilbert came outside. "Hilda, do you know where you placed my…"

Raven came face to face with the children. "Damn, I'm seeing double."

"No, no. Hilbert here is my brother. You confused him for me, did you?"

Raven rubbed his eyes. "Oh, my apologies. It's nice to meet you, Halberd."

Hilbert shook Raven's wing. "It's Hilbert. And yes, I did recall trying to save you from that Trevor punk."

"I appreciate you doing that for me. I could have been someone's fur coat."

"Uh, you got somewhere to be?" Alfur asked.

"Crap, you're right. I'll be late for my date! She's a real hooter!" Raven exclaimed.

"Wait! We might need you for an emergency landing!" Hilda cried.

"Sorry, no can do. Otherwise, my goose is cooked!" Raven took off. "See you next time, Hilda and Hilbert!"

Alfur was glad Raven remembered the names of the twins. Hilda just stared at her flying friend before she and her brother headed back inside the blimp.
