David started yawning and groaning as he woke up. He noticed that his forehead and right leg are covered in bandages before hearing some laughter. Upon peeking, he noticed burly men having a chat about their day.
"Ah, you woke up," Torgund spoke. "You are quite lucky to have company here."
David was confused until he met some familiar faces. He was relieved that his friends were here. "How did you get in here?"
"We ran into them few minutes ago. They look like they came from a war," Vivian drank some root beer.
"Where is Hilda?" Hilbert asked against his will.
"She is telling scary stories with Frida. I ended up falling down a cliff,"
"We got to meet up with Hilda later. She might be worried about you!" Alfur exclaimed.
"We might have to sleep for tonight. It's getting cold out here," Adeline shivered.
"Lucky thing we got some spare beds." Torgund's friend gave some blankets to the others.
"Well, this has been nice and all, but I got to get back to my friends. They are going to be pretty worried if I don't show up there in time for the morning," David tried to walk out of the cave.
"You're not going to accept the chance to be brave?" Torgund was confused. "Especially in the battlefield?"
"Well, not really. I don't have any moments of bravery. I lack it,"
Torgund felt a lightbulb light up. "Well, you are in luck. There is this thing called the Medallion of Sigurd. Rumor has it that those that use will no longer be afraid of anything."
David perked up. "Really?"
"Yeah. The thing is that the Knudsen clan are the bastards that stand in our way. They stole it before we could get our hands on it! There is only one thing to do!"
"Ask to borrow it?" David rubbed his elbow.
"Hell no! We slay them to the death!" The clan cheered as they went outside the cave.
David felt unsure at first, but he decided to follow them before he got halted by Vivian. "Uh, maybe you shouldn't go with them. It's too dangerous out there."
"Look, I appreciate you looking out for me, but this is my chance. I held back Hilda and Frida for too long, and this is my chance to make up for it."
Hilbert had some doubts. "There are other ways to do that. Use your head!"
David rolled his eyes as he ran off.
"Damn it, he's going to be vittra food there!" Vivian headed off to go after him, but she noticed Spark ringing. "What's with him?"
"Mom must be calling," Hilbert sighed. "Go after David. I'll take care of this."
Back at Hilda's apartment, Johanna was drinking some hot chocolate while talking on the phone. "Hilbert? Where are you?"
"We are near the camping grounds of the Sparrow Scouts. Hilda and Frida are telling scary stories to each other,"
Johanna rolled her eyes. "Of course they are. Did they cause any trouble as of today?"
"Not really. We ran into David. He's going to be a messenger boy tonight."
"Well, that seems odd for a Sparrow Scout badge mission. You and the others should go on ahead and sleep in for the night. Don't cause more explosions, they might attract trolls to your area." Johanna ate some toast. "Have a good night."
"Good night, mom." Hilbert got onto a bed and dozed off. Alfur and Adeline got on top of Spark and moved to the battlefield.
Words can't describe the amount of brutality there. Limbs falling apart, biting on each other, punches and kicks thrown, it is like a world war.
"Heavens! This is even worse than those bullies on elf school!" Alfur cried.
"I'll say," Adeline couldn't help but agree. "All those days of being stuffed in trash cans and assaulted in the public are coming back!"
In the middle of the field, David was having an adrenaline rush while being scared at the same time. He listened to lite rock as he ran on the battlefield. The wimp knew this was risky, but he would do anything to avoid slowing down his friends again. Although he was successful with making it unharmed, he was still terrified that some people had their limbs cut. Even a man got cut right down in the middle! But what made his eyes widened was that Vivian also got caught in the action. "What the hell do you think you are doing?!"
Vivian did a barrel roll while avoiding getting decapitated. "What do you think? Trying to get a piece of the action!"
Eventually, the battle was finished. Everyone gathered around for the medal. David was determined to touch the medallion to remove his fears. Vivian got close, fascinated that it was the real deal. A bright light flashed in the night.
The next morning, Hilbert woke up from his bed. It was strangely comfortable in that bed and somehow soft. The boy tried to move, but he felt something weighing him down. He found out it was Vivian sleeping with him. Words can't express how embarrassed he was.
"Nngh… I want to sleep in, Mom. I don't want to go to school…" the girl slurred in her sleep.
Hilbert tried to get out of bed without being noticed, but he felt tiny legs on his head. He looked up to see the elves giving him mischievous grins. "What are you gnomes looking at?"
"Oh, just looking at the egghead having a pleasure night with his snuggle muffin," Adeline held her laughter.
"Better shut it or you'll be squashed by the vitra," Hilbert growled.
Hilbert managed to get off the bed so he could have some breakfast. Strangely enough, it was already prepared. There were pancakes, eggs, sausages, and bacon. It smelled like heaven. He dined in while sharing some with the two elves. Hilbert was surprised that Vivian joined in the feast as well. "Wow, you were very sleepy that night, were you?"
"Yeah. There were some trolls nearby, so I had to take cover." the girl poured syrup on the pancakes.
"I must say," Adeline drank some orange juice. "Trolberg is as adventurous as you say it is, Alfur."
"Yeah. Good thing we wrote reports on last night's fight that the hobos did."
The group's conversation was interrupted when a loud slam was heard. When they got outside, they noticed a familiar yet strange face. "David?"
"That's Bravid, to you!" the boy puffed his chest before pounding on it like a gorilla. His hair was messy, his sleeves are gone, part of his pants are ripped, and he has a cut on his cheek. "Ah, a great feast for the day!"
Eventually, some panting can be heard. It was none other than Hilda and Frida, who were trying to catch up with their friend.
"Hilbert? How come you are here with Vivian?"
"Long story short; Mom told me to tag along to keep an eye on you, Hilda."
The brat rolled her eyes. "Of course she did,"
Frida cleared her throat. "Did you guys had anything to do with 'Bravid' here?"
"Well, no," Vivian raised an eyebrow. "What about you?"
Hilda shook her head. "He mentioned something about going to a battlefield to use a medallion that removes fears. This kid jumped into a waterfall and almost got himself killed!"
"Sadly, that may be true," David cleared his throat. "But I lived!"
"If you think that's crazy, you should have seen how he tackled a vitra," Frida rolled her eyes.
"I can still hear the screaming and the squishing," Hilda shivered.
Twig whimpered to Hilda after he licked the water bowl.
"What's wrong, boy?"
"I think he is trying to tell you about the war that happened last night, Hilda!" Alfur exclaimed.
"It is true," Adeline wrote her notes. "There were so many decapitations around from head to toe!"
"And before you ask, no. There was no blood involved surpassingly." Hilbert was puzzled.
"Trotting in place! Trot, trotting in place! Yeah!" David made a pose.
Everyone gave him awkward looks.
"What?"
"Be careful with yourself, you could lose a tooth!" Vivian showed concern.
"Nonsense, I can face anything and not be defeated!" David ended up slipping on a banana peel. "Oh, crap!"
Vivian got up from the table and dove to the ground in a quick amount of time. Even after saving David, the others were shocked about this.
"And I thought her being scared by a bear was weird," Hilbert muttered.
"Vivian? Are you ok?" Frida wondered.
"Yeah. Just trying to stop David from hurting himself."
"Ok, this is really weird," Hilbert scratched his head.
