Loud groans and ragged breaths can be heard in a small apartment in Kuoh. Inside of it, there was a black-haired guy, sweating profusely and doing push-ups… while talking to himself.

''Son of a bitch! Ten more dammit!'' I shouted. Even when struggling with the next one.

Even if I screamed myself hoarse, my body was at the limit. With one last push-up, I collapse into the floor.

Taking deep breaths, I flip myself over to look at the screen that popped up.

You have successfully pushed your body to its limits multiple times. Your CON has increased!

''So worth it…'' I smile tiredly at the screen.

So, first of all. Two weeks have gone by.

Two weeks filled with intense training in any way that I could think, (that won't downright just kill me). One day I'll be able to lift trucks like Mr. Incredible, I swear. Also, shoving anything I could find into my Spear. From pebbles, leaves, and food to metals, camping materials, and a pipe.

Anything that the spear accepted, I gave.

This gave me quite the amount of weapon forms. Those are the reasons for my current stats. Still, I could only unlock about thirteen of them since the timer was still pretty long.

It doesn't matter. I got the forms that I wanted the most, after all.

Rope Spear.

Equip Bonus: [Attack Up (Small)]. [Air Strike Javelin]. [Mastered].

Equip Effect: [Rope Hook].

Pipe Spear.

Equip Bonus: [CON Up (Small)]. [Second Javelin]. [Mastered].

Equip Bonus: [Pipe Sound].

Yes, that second one did what you're thinking. The legendary falling pipe sound.

God-Tier effects aside, they are not some incredibly powerful weapons. But, they don't have to be. The most important part is the 'Hero Skills'. Skills that are different from my own, and consume another bar that I gained with the weapon. The SP bar that is meant to be used by these types of Skills.

Apart from that, I trained till exhaustion. Then, I drank water to get rid of it. A painful process I repeated almost every day for two weeks. These are the results.

It's not a lot, but it's definitively progress.

The good news ended there, however. Even at this early stage, I noticed diminishing returns. I had to push myself to the bone to up CON to E, and I literally used that stat to up DEX and STR on a permanent basis.

It makes sense if you think about it. Regular training won't do any good to someone with supernatural strength, and it's not like I have the money or connections to buy something like gravity-increasing equipment, if that existed.

Besides myself, Rei's stats have also been increasing. All of them are in F(+) now. I don't know how, specifically. I haven't seen her train like me, but I have seen her disappearing from time to time. Maybe some kind of stealth magic? Or maybe she goes outside the house to hunt? Doesn't matter.

She's also gotten pretty big. Almost as big as my hand with her legs extended.

My other skills have gotten pretty strong, too. I haven't been to another dungeon since the first. But, when I wasn't training my ass off, I was emptying my MP bar.

[Electrokinesis] Lv26 (23%).

The power to control and generate lightning.
You're able to shape your magic in simple constructs.
Perk Gained:
Lightning Affinity (Minor).

[Fertility Magic] Lv 9 (11%).

You can control the growth and reproduction of simple plants.

To train the last one, I was doing a little gardening in the neighborhood. Planting some flowers I liked and, when no one was looking, pumping MP into them. They look really nice and healthy.

In this world, I believe making being able to control someone's fertility is a must. It will definitively give me an in with the Devils, at the very least. Also, the girls in Kuoh are all pretty cute, but I'm not ready to be a father, at all.

I'm not going to go all 'Zeus Style' and bang every cute girl I met, but having this for precautions and for when I actually want a kid will be useful.

[Observe] Lv 28 (17%).

Allows you to get information on living things and objects. The higher the level of this skill, the easier it is to get information on it. The strength of what you want to analyze and your own magic power will be taken into consideration to recollect data.

It took so long to grind this. I had to practically Observe everything. Like, every damn neighborhood cat, dog, plant, and person.

It was torture…

[Cooking] Lv 21 (56%).

You can make really tasty homemade meals. Nothing really fancy or 5-star, but you're getting there. Other people feel better after eating food made by yourself.

[Imbue Element] Lv 10 (MAX).

You can imbue an element you can control into an object. It's most effective on weapons.

This ability doesn't have a cost.

The last one was pretty easy, actually. I just used my spear while practicing. The low level cap helped, too.

I could actually overcharge the spear with lightning. Almost zapped poor Rei while trying it for the first time.

I also got new skills, really useful ones. But, grinding without going dungeon diving can only give so many results.

[Reinforcement] Lv 1 (20%).

The art of pumping mana directly into your blood. By doing so, your muscles get stronger, your skin more durable, and your movements more agile.

[Acrobatics Proficiency] Lv 12 (5%).

You learned the fine art of roof jumping and running. You can even land from a good height without breaking your legs… probably.

[Hydrokinesis] Lv 14 (23%).

The power to generate and control water.

Racial Bonus: Increased Damage and Experience gain while using water-related abilities.

[Boxing] Lv 6 (12%).

The ability to deliver strong and devastating blows with your fists.

Acrobatics are pretty useful. It's how I have been upping my DEX stat. Besides, roof jumping is cool. Try to change my mind.

Hydrokinesis was actually really easy to figure out, it must be because of my racial affinity. It gets easier to figure out if you try to control it first before you create it from your own mana.

'Reinforcement' is the real gem here. I actually got it by making a Power Fist Skill and a Sprinting one. Then, I just fused them together with Skill Fusion.

Training with it, however…

Let's just say it has been way too difficult at my small apartment, and I can't just start sprinting at full power outside. Also, the cost to maintain it constantly is just insane.

Oh, and, Boxing was the compensation The System gave to me in the form of a Skill Book for letting Jinzui fuck around with my head and memories.

That brings me to today's topic. It's time to go Dungeon crawling once more.

I need to test my new Skills and stat growth before Canon starts, and with school just around the corner, I don't have lots of time.

With a mere thought, I put the Basic Leather Armor on, checked my inventory for water bottles and my limited amount of healing potions.

My musings get interrupted by the feeling of something moving at my feet. Looking down, I can see Rei making little gestures at me with her front legs. Ah…

''Sorry, girl. I can't bring you into a dungeon with me just yet.'' I say. With a little hesitation, I crouch down and pet her abdomen with my finger. ''Maybe next time, okay?''

Rei seemed to deflate a little, but I could get acceptance and a feeling of determination through our bond. Then, she suddenly disappeared and I couldn't feel her magic anymore.

Stealth magic it was, I see.

Let's do this quick, I want to take a day or two off after all that training. I 100% deserved it.

''[Create Dungeon].''

Choose a Dungeon.

[Zombies].

[Zombies (Hard)].

[Plains].

My eyebrow rises at the 'Hard' version of the zombie dungeon. Yet, a bout of nausea makes itself known in my stomach.

''Let's… let's leave the rotten guts for another day.''

I select the Plains Dungeon and in an instant, I appear in a massive grassy plain. Blue, beautiful sky above my head, a gentle breeze hitting my body, and… Why is the grass moving?

Wait.

A confused frown shows on my face. ''Are those slimes…? [Observe].''

Green Slime.

Yep, those are slimes. Also, if they take little to no bludgeon damage, I could use one as a practice punch bag for my Boxing Skills.

On another note, it would have been nice to have this as a starter Dungeon and not a freaking Left 4 Dead rip-off.

By entering the Plains Dungeon for the first time, a Quest has been initiated!

Quest: Sticky Situation.

You have come to another Dungeon to experiment with your newfound power. However, by your sharp deduction; you notice that the place is infested with blobs of jelly! Better take care of that.

Objective I:

Slay 25 Green Slimes [0/25].

Slay 10 Blue Slimes [0/10].

Slay 5 Purple Slimes [0/5].

Objective II:

Defeat the Dungeon Boss.

Bonus Objective:

Defeat at least 1 Slime of every kind available in the dungeon [0/10].

Rewards:

I: [¥100.000]. [x1 Gacha Token]. [x3 Random Ore (Thematic)]. [3 Levels of Spear Proficiency].

II: [¥200.000]. [x2 Gacha Tokens]. [Healing Related Skill (Random Tier)].

Bonus Reward:

[x2 Gacha Tokens]. [?].

''Well, it's certainly different than the first one.'' I whistle at those rewards.

A smile crosses my face as I lock on the first slime I see. I have lots of things to try out now that I have the freedom of the Dungeon.

With a flick of my hand, the Chain Spear transforms into the Rope Spear. Now that I can kill monsters, I will be able to use [Skill Rank Up] and [Experienced Combat] to upgrade my Hero Skills.

''[Air Strike Javelin]!'' At the intonation of the skill. A translucent, orange construct of a medieval-looking javelin soars through the sky. The projectile impales the slime and kills it in a single blow. Its gooey remains all over the grassy field.

[1/25] Green Slimes killed.

7 Weapon Experience gained.

''Ah, slime slaying.'' Suddenly, a voice speaks. ''Now this takes me back memory lane…''

The ethereal-sounding voice resonates through the field. The crimson gem of the Rope Spear shone brightly with each word.

And, no. I didn't scream a little from the surprise. If Jinzui tells you otherwise she's a liar.

''Jinzui?! What? How…?'' My eyes widen in surprise at the sudden presence of my partner.

''Ah… Greetings, Partner. Up for some monster culling I see?'' The Spirit of the Spear questions amusedly. She doesn't comment on my little screech that absolutely didn't happen.

''Well… yeah, pretty much. I didn't know you could speak to me while outside my mind.'' There is a clear surprise in my voice, but there is also warmth. Having someone to talk to while monster hunting will make a pleasant experience at least.

''Why didn't you speak sooner- [Second Javelin]!'' My speech was interrupted by another slime, a blue one jumping at me from my side. Like its green brethren, it also explodes.

[1/10] Blue Slimes killed.

12 Weapon Experience gained.

''I think we can discuss matters later, Partner. Right now, you have a Quest to do.'' She responds with soft yet firm words.

''Right. Focus on the task at hand, talk later.''

If I want to farm and practice as much as possible, I better get to it.

-Third Person Pov-

The battle of Zatren against the malevolent pests from the plains was quite uneventful.

Sure, there were lots of them. But, most if not all died from either a single magic attack or the occasional Hero Skill for the tougher ones. They made for perfect punching practice, however.

The only exception was probably the Black Slime for its extremely corrosive nature or the quite rare Rainbow Slime for its size. It was just as tall as him while being much wider.

Zatren slumps against a tree in the plains. Small drops of sweat fell from his eyebrow. Harsh pants escaped him during the hours of slime slaughtering.

[64/25] Green Slimes killed.

[33/10] Blue Slimes killed.

[19/5] Purple Slimes killed.

[9/1] Red Slimes killed.

[7/1] Black Slimes killed.

[3/1] Lava Slimes killed.

[4/1] Ice Slimes killed.

[1/1] Rainbow Slimes killed.

[9/10] Unique Slimes killed.

''Good job, Partner. That last one really took it out of you, it seems.'' The praising voice of Jinzui comes from the currently equipped Rainbow Slime Spear.

Looking at it was quite the experience, as it never stayed in the same color for more than a moment. ''You should rest before trying to take on the Boss. See if you got something useful for the next fight.'' She advises.

''Yeah… Thank you… Jinzui… Haa…'' Without looking, Zatren takes out a water bottle from his inventory and chugs it all in one go. A satisfied sigh escapes him as his breath stabilizes, and the fatigue from his body fades. ''That's a lot better… Let's see what we got here.''

A hum escapes his mouth as he looks through the Menu. Specifically, the evolution available for the different maxed-out spears and the newly unlocked Weapon Forms.

A whistle escapes the half-mermaid's mouth at the amount of bonuses from the unlocked spears. Most of them only gave a little boost in a specific stat. But, every little grain of sand will end up piling up until it becomes a castle.

''Let's evolve the ones available and assign those Hero Skill points then.'' He mused while tweaking his abilities.

Evolving Maxed-out Weapon Forms…

Rope Spear Skill has evolved from [Air Strike Javelin] to [Tri-Strike Javelin]!

Pipe Spear Skill has evolved from [Second Javelin] to [Mirror Javelin]!

[Tri-Strike Javelin I].

[Mirror Javelin I].

[Fire Lance I].

''And that should do it.'' He nods. ''Let's go look for the Boss, Jinzui.''

Now totally recovered for the fight ahead, Zatren got up to face the last challenge of the Dungeon.

''Of course. Lead the way, Partner.'' Not like she could do it, since she can't walk.

-Fumigami Zatren's POV-

Finding the Boss wasn't particularly hard, but it was tricky.

Jinzui gave me the idea to go deep into the forest surrounding the Plains. It seemed that the further we went from the 'spawn'; that being, the place where I first appeared once inside the dungeon. The stronger the enemies got.

Fortunately, my new 'Lava Slime Spear' could deal with the regular variant slimes quite easily.

Also, water magic seemed to do jack-shit to the slimes. Except for the Lava ones, those took massive damage. Still, I couldn't practice much with my supposed strongest magic.

It's only been a few minutes' walk, but the Green and Blue versions of the Slimes? Not appearing anymore.

''Right there, Zatren.'' Jinzui's voice interrupts my thoughts. ''I think that is the 'Boss' we are searching for.''

Sure enough, in the middle of a… ruin? There is a BIG slime. And not like the Rainbow Slime, I mean absolutely massive. It's a deep blue color, at least 3 meters tall and wide, and it has a crown… on his nonexistent head…

''Wait… Is this place Terraria dungeon?'' In front of me is the King Slime from Terraria. Sure, it looks a lot more life-like, but still.

''Did you figure something out, Zatren?'' The voice of Jinzui resonates from within the gem on the Rainbow Slime Spear. Her voice was a lot quieter, so as to not alert our foe.

''Yes, yes I did. I don't know if every dungeon will be the same, but this one resembles a game I used to play a lot back home.'' I start explaining to her while observing the unmoving blob.

''This is the first boss of that game, King Slime. He isn't particularly strong but he can move fast while jumping and can summon allied slimes from its gel.'' I try to remember the most I can recall from the boss. I'm also praying that this isn't the Calamity version.

''That's good, Partner. Knowing your enemy is half the battle.'' She praises. ''Still, don't over-rely on your past information. Our enemy could be different from the one you remember.''

''Of course. But for now, our best tactic is to strike first, and strike hard.'' That being said. I made it the hard way around. King Slime didn't appear to be 'active' for now, at least.

Maybe he was asleep? Still, that only gave us the advantage. From the woods surrounding the ruins, I got closer. Silently approaching from the shadows as I mentally cast [Observe].

Okay, so. He is pretty much the King Slime from the game. His stats are similar to the strongest slimes from the dungeon, but his race is different. It must be stronger, then. Its MP bar is pretty small, too. I can guess he uses it to summon Slimes from its gel.

I could start with the Lava Slime Spear, but its Skill is on melee range. It will be better to pepper it from a distance first, and the Rainbow Slime Spear has the better stats for it.

With all the information possible gathered, I started casting my Skills in my mind. Doing it out loud makes them more effective and costs a bit less, but not being discovered is key for now.

'[Mana Shield], [Reinforcement], [Imbue Element: Electricity].' First, an intense glowing blue shield covers my body in every direction before receding inside of me. Then, an orange, more tamed glow outlines my form but stays in place. Lastly, sparks of lightning surround my equipped spear.

The overflowing energy dissipates into the surroundings. I ignore the small whisper from Jinzui saying something about 'feeling tingly all over' and commence my offensive.

''[Tri-Strike Javelin I]!'' It's what I shout as I sprint towards my target. ''[Mirror Javelin]!'' Follows suit.

3 glowing blue javelins manifest in the air. Powerful electric currents come out of the translucent bodies. Then, another wave of javelins follows the first and all soar at high speeds toward the now-awake form of the King Slime.

I can see him try to jump and evade the attack but the instant he takes to prepare for it, the six glowing spears impale his bubbling body. A sizzling sound echoes through the ruin as blue chunks of the monster are blown out of his 'flesh'. Some of them are burnt, while others remain intact.

King Slime.

HP: [-67%- ]

Angry… burbling sounds? And gurgles come out of the form of the king of this plains. He retaliates by launching himself at me at surprising speeds. His body has lost some mass, making him more agile.

I am not one to stand still, however. Dodging to the side, I avoid the powerful impact of his body against the ground as a small cloud of dirt is formed from the collision.

''Can't touch this, you blue fucker!'' A smirk crosses my face as I slash at him. I fear that if I were to impale the sticky-looking blueness, it would somehow get stuck.

Smaller chunks of slime are torn off its body anew. Moving to evade the corrosive blobs of slime proves to be a mistake, however.

With renewed speed, the Slime King's body slams me from the side, sending my form sprawling through the rocky and grassy floor of the ruin.

-19% MP.

''Shit!'' More surprise than pain comes from my exclamation as I get up.

Quickly moving out of the way to evade another bodycheck from his majesty himself. The King Slime misses my form when I get far away from him for my next move.

''Okay, okay. Don't test Murphy, got it.'' Canalizing [Electrokinesis] in my free hand proves to be laughably easy as I extend it in front of my body.

Powerful, blue lightning comes out of my hand as I shout. ''Lightning Bolt!'' I can feel my MP dropping heavily from that, but it's still above 50%.

An arc of lightning-fast – Ha! – magic courses through the air and strikes the King Slime, enveloping his form completely.

Loud sizzling resonates once again, but this time, the slime that tries to come off is burnt by the powerful lightning magic.

The crown-wearing slime stands still for a moment. Then, his body bursts.

He becomes just like the Rainbow Slime in height and width. The previously inert chunks of slime unified into smaller beings ready to aid the call of their King.

King Slime.

HP: [- 39% ]

MP: [0%]

The army of slimes aims their fury at me and the next part of the fight becomes tricky, as I dodge and slash at any blue blob trying to attach itself to my armor-covered body.

The King is not stationary, however. With speed and movements I can't follow at the moment, the not-so-massive king slams himself into me from my blind spots while I try to destroy his troops. However, his strikes have become weaker due to the lack of body mass providing lackluster strength.

-6% MP.

-7% MP.

-5% MP.

''Gods above, you're annoying!'' Despite my tone, a confident smirk graces my features once again. The cooldown from my Skills is finished, after all, and I take full advantage of the fact.

''[Tri-Strike Javelin I]!'' Glowing javelins seek King Slime once again, but his now nimbler form allows it to dodge two of them.

Sadly, for him, his luck runs out the moment one of the javelins is thrown at a place where he isn't at the moment, but where he will be due to his previous jump.

The damage is minimal compared to the initial assault, but that wasn't my objective.

The unexpected hit and subsequent electrical current make the smol king freeze just for a moment. That's more than enough.

I close the distance in a single step by focusing the buffing magic on my legs. What little remains from the King Slime army throwing themselves at me in the defense of their royal patron.

That proves to be their undoing.

In a single second, my weapon changes into the Lava Slime Spear. ''[Fire Lance I]!'' Glowing hot flames exude from my weapon once I intone the Skill's name.

This one is supposed to be a full-body thrust. Yet, I pierce the ground with the point of the spear instead.

For a moment, nothing seemed to happen. That is before bright flames explode from the ground, enveloping the little army and the King itself.

''[Mirror Javelin I]!'' It's shouted next as my SP bar drops enormously. The effect is the desired one, as new flames burst from the floor once again.

The weaker slimes are totally burnt by now, and the King is but a pitiful Blue Slime without his crown as the flames make what remains of him boil and die.

3 Hero Skill points for killing King Slime.

[10/10] Unique Slimes killed.

Most of the experience went to the Rainbow Spear, and what remains is sent to the Lava Slime one. Not enough to evolve the latter, yet.

''GG. No rematch, bozo.'' I say while bowing mockingly to my defeated foe.

Suddenly, I can feel myself almost stumble to the ground. My vision gets blurry for a moment and just now I can feel the dryness of my throat and the sweat rolling off my body.

''That was easier than I expected.'' A relieved sigh escapes my mouth as I hold my balance, pushing through the tiredness and fatigue.

It seems I really got stronger, huh?

A happy smile shows on my tired face at the notion. Yet, there is a certain feeling of uncertainty. Before I can go through my Menu, however. A terrifying realization strikes.

Why was there no 'Boss Defeated' message?

''Partner! From above, watch out!'' The serious and slightly panicked voice from Jinzui shakes me out of my realization as I jump forward and roll on the ground to cushion my fall.

A loud resounding slam makes itself known just a moment later.

My eyes widen in terror as I turn around to find the gelatinous figure in front of me. A purplish-looking body with teal-colored details and a violet crystal in the middle. A beautiful and regal silver crown on its head. One magenta, heart-shaped gem in the middle. Her body is the same size, if not bigger, than the previously fallen King Slime.

The little spider was looking at where her Master vanished a few minutes ago. Her still not developed mind not knowing where or how.

But it did know the why. Strength.

She could feel it, her master searched for strength. He wanted to become powerful, for a reason she couldn't understand.

That was why he didn't take her with him. Because she was too weak.

Unacceptable.

She needed strength, she needed to be more. She needed Power, and for that, she needed to devour. To become better. To Change.

Looking at a squirrel from behind the window, her mandibles moved in hunger. She will become strong.

The rest 'Marrying if you beat her at chess' is pretty much Fanon. But being honest, she must be really good at the very least.
