When Bell Cranel woke up the next day, he didn't expect to see a house full of blondes. Haruhime, Ais and Primo were blondes, and now two more joined in the home of the Hestia Familia as Hakuno introduced the two to everyone.
Nero Claudius, an aspiring artist, and swordswoman whose passion for beautiful things was akin to a blaze. Compassion is her nature and desiring for love as she brightens the mood with her positivity. Her skirt was concerning, but Nero stating she's letting them look. She calls herself the incarnation of Venus (No one but Hakuno and the golden armored man knew who Venus was).
Then there was Gilgamesh. Bell never felt such despair enter his heart at the revelation of him being Hakuno's spouse. His silent screams seemed to amuse the man who took notice and then Hakuno mentioned her mother set her up with him as she proposed to Nero and made the woman her betrothed. It only led to confusion of why Hakuno was doing this as Hestia seemed to understand.
"Ah, a polyamorous relationship, eh?" Hestia mused aloud while Hakuno closed her eyes. "To think you'd pull off something this rare. You're full of surprises, aren't you?" the goddess asked.
"Foolishness. I permitted her to have a partner in Little Red here because I respect their close bonds. While I of course married her thanks to her mother and for my own amusement. I have gotten quite fond of the little starlight here in my own way." Gilgamesh shrugged it off like it was no big deal.
Hakuno gave him a flat look, the reason why he agreed to her birth mother's absurd idea was because she wanted grandkids and a capable man to look after her with the fact, she draws trouble to herself. He gets the excuse to use cheesy lines that came out of some shōjo manga just to draw reactions out of her.
His teasing and that damn A+ Charisma skill of his always leaves her a blushing mess. Oh, how she wished to bring death to this teasing Servant of a husband for every time he's tried one of those ridiculous lines right out in public. Seeing girlfriends getting angry with their boyfriends because they can't be as 'romantic' as him. She curses her birth mother for doing this to her, and now she's got a husband that lives to make her a blushing mess.
King of Jerks.
"So as long as they have your approval…anyone can have a relationship with Hakuno?" asked Ais of all people. Everyone looked at the Sword Princess and the girl looked confused, but Gilgamesh looked thoroughly amused by something before looking at Hakuno while Nero was looking proud.
Oh no.
"Already acquiring the heart of yet another maiden I see. Your ability to draw them in even draws jealousy of your king here." Gilgamesh stated with a smile full of amusement while Hakuno was suffering from flashbacks of the Sakura Labyrinth with the girls used as Sentinels.
"Umu! You truly are something Praetor! Beauties are drawn to your kind and caring heart. From your former enemies-turned allies to a formidable swordswoman of exceptional beauty! Why even I'm recalling how you won my heart as you stared Death right in the face and defeated it! You truly are a magnificent person, Praetor." Nero complimented.
Stop, just stop. She's already getting a bad feeling about this.
"Why me…?" Hakuno tiredly asked herself, only for everyone with heightened senses like a Servant or Adventurer could. Then Gilgamesh delivered the answer.
"They see value in you." He admitted with a frown. "Because being a genuinely nice person with no strings attached is a rare trait amongst people and is valuable. Why did you think those girls on the Far Side were drawn to you in the first place?"
Hakuno put her face into her hands, recalling how being nice was what set of that chain of events to the Far Side in the first place.
"So just by being nice is enough to draw in girls huh? I can see Take and Miach having that issue with their personalities…wait-does that mean Bell-kun is walking down the same steps as you Hakuno?!" Hestia realized with horror as Bell sputtered in shock of the accusations his goddess assumed.
"What?! No way! I mean I originally came here thanks to my grandfather's ideas, but I changed them after seeing what a real adventure was like! Or was my skill's name a joke?!" Bell denied vehemently while Gilgamesh raised a brow at that.
"Oh? Do tell me the name of this skill." The king stated with an order.
"Heroic Desire: Argonaut." Hakuno instantly answered as everyone looked at her in shock while Gilgamesh snorted a laugh while Nero patted Bell on the back.
"To have your dreams etched into a name and skill…sorry this is just…! Ahahahahaha!" Gilgamesh broke into a laughing fit while Bell screamed in embarrassment.
"Do not worry Bell! That is truly a beautiful desire to have! To have a power named after it symbolizes your resolve." Nero comforted as Hestia was not amused.
"Hakuno, why did you tell them that?! They might be in another-!"
"Gil hates gods, so being in a Familia isn't viable for him. He's a neutral observer who only acts when the time is right. And as one of my spouses, he'd never betray me. Not once since I met had he done such a thing." Hakuno calmly answered as Hestia felt herself deflate a bit. She felt that if Gilgamesh joined their Familia, things would be easier for them but if Hakuno was saying the truth (and gods can tell if someone was lying) then there's nothing she can do.
"Umu, I am going to have to decline as well. You've taken it upon yourself to raise these young chicks into strong birds, but I will ally with you should the situation arise." Nero spoke up.
Hakuno understood well. Heroic Spirits were the souls of the dead summoned to the world. They have no right to interfere with that of the living. If they were incarnated however, then the situation would change. Plus, she has no contract with the two since the Moon Cell canceled it once she became Sovereign. She needed to study on how to do so in the worst-case scenario.
All while this was happening, Primo stared at Gilgamesh intently as the Golden King looked at the young elf child with interest. "Oh, what draws interest in me child? Does my Gorgeous charm overwhelm even you?" he mused.
King of Vanity. That was what he was right now in Hakuno's thoughts.
"…Mom, does that make Gilgamesh-san my dad?" Primo asked out of the blue. The room got quiet as Gilgamesh turned his gaze towards Hakuno that demanded an explanation for why the elf child called her 'mom'.
"I adopted her Gil; she lost her memories after being abused by slavers and lost her mother." Hakuno answered.
Then both Servants saw the resemblance between their Master and the elf child. Both had suffered lost memories and death of their mothers. No wonder Hakuno had adopted her, it was like looking at herself in the mirror as an elf version of Hakuno. Truly, her kindness is the same no matter where she is.
"So that makes me a father then?" Gilgamesh mused before smirking. "Therefore, I am your sugar daddy!"
"You don't even know what that means, so never say it again." Hakuno immediately interjected like a proper mom concerned for her child's education from a dad who's clearly a bad influence. It already got some chuckles from the women of the Familia.
*Nighttime*
Hakuno sat on one of the church's benches, looking up at the moon from the hole in the roof as Bell walked towards her. "Something wrong Bell?" she asked while Bell looked away, troubled by something.
"It's true that you're married?" he asked.
"He was bothered by that?" It only confused Hakuno as she blinked at the question.
"I am, but it doesn't mean I'm open to more spouses if me planning to marry Nero is of anything to take note of." She answered while Bell looked at her with wide eyes. "From where I come from, people have lost much due to disasters, wars over the lack of resources, and even illnesses. There isn't a time when we fear that we'd lose our loved ones to one another in a cycle of repeatable deaths. Most of the laws have been ruled out with the decline of proper civilization. So having a polyamorous relationship isn't wrong as long as there is proper love between those in that kind of relationship."
"Is that different from a harem?" Bell asked.
"Very different. Polyamorous relationships are an understanding of each other and equality. Harems are more…dangerous depending on the individuals in it. Bell, your grandfather wanted you to have a harem, but a harem is more life-threatening for a nice boy like yourself. Especially since you've been raised in Romanticism. He's completely glorified what a harem is and never warned you of the emotional pain you can cause by having a harem." Hakuno explained to him as Bell looked at his hands in thought.
"What are the dangers of a harem?" Bell asked, wanting to know of the dangers so he could understand what his late grandfather had avoided telling him.
"Girls have their own values and beliefs, and if they all vie for the same guy, conflicts are quick to ensure. It could be obvious enough to warrant fights or subtle enough with word play that they're insulting each other. But in the end, they all want that boy's heart themselves, or at least be first in it. Same can be said in a reverse harem with men vying for the same girl." She told him as Bell gulped at that. It scared him, because he could understand that if he didn't pay attention to the feelings of women around him, he might unintentionally hurt them emotionally.
"Grandfather…you dummy." Bell muttered, feeling that his old man was ignoring the feelings of girls when he talked about harems. But now thanks to Hakuno, he understands better now. A polyamorous relationship was gentler than a harem, because there is an equal love in it.
"…So, the first girl on your list is Ais, isn't it?" Hakuno guessed off-handedly.
"Eh?!" Bell squeaked as he staggered from the question as if caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
"It is pretty obvious that you like her in a romantic way, why do you think I set you up with her during training sessions in the first place or why she'd give you lap pillows?" came the smug coy smile from Hakuno as Bell's face turned cherry red as he screamed. She knew, she knew he liked Ais and deliberately set it up just like that. If he could crawl into a hole and cover it with a rock and die, he'd do that.
"With those sessions and lap pillows, a connection is made. Now all you must do is find other ways to hang out with her and build a stronger bond with her. Understand her a bit more and be there when she's feeling down. Romantic relationships aren't built in a single day you know." She lectured as Bell looked at her from behind his fingers as he was hiding his face under his hands.
"U-Um, Captain? Are you sure you know of any other girl I'm interested in?" he asked cautiously while Hakuno crossed her arms and closed her eyes.
"I respect the privacy of my Familia members, unless they are willing to share something. If there is someone else, you're interested in and want to tell me. Speak now or remain silent." She told him.
Bell took a deep breath. This was it, he had only one chance to say it before he has any regrets as he let out his answer. "It's you." He told her. He did it, he confessed to Hakuno as the moonlight shone on her, revealing her hidden face behind the veil as her starry eyes looked at him in surprise.
"What?" she said aloud.
"Ever since I saw you when you found me, I was drawn to you. You lit up my world with your smiles, supporting me in various ways and always looking out for our Familia. You…you became someone important to me like Ais despite me only being in the Familia for roughly two months. Hakuno I've…I've fallen in love with you." Bell admitted while clutching his arm as if in emotional turmoil.
Hakuno felt her cheeks grow warm, she's never been used to a boy's love confession. Leo Harway was a testament to that during the CCC Incident when he confessed to her. It leaves her confused and unsure how to respond, and Bell is a nice boy, cute and all that. But she never saw this coming at all.
Was this why he was upset with her having been married off to Gil?
She needed to give him an answer, but she didn't know how to do that without breaking the poor boy's heart. Then, a familiar laugh broke the tension like a knife.
Oh no.
In a flash of gold sparkles, Gilgamesh appeared near the podium of the church with his arms crossed and an amused smile on his face. "Hoh, how amusing, a child of all things confessing his feelings to my Queen. Barely even reaching his teen years and having the audacity to make a move on her." He sneered and Bell was quick to spew apologies. But Hakuno noticed the look in his eyes. He's teasing the boy despite his tone
King of Jerks.
"But I shall permit it!" he declared, catching both the rabbit and fairy child off guard by that. "As long as you chase after impossible dreams and prove yourself worthy to be by my Queen's side, I shall permit you by her side! So, fight, grow, become what you want to be as I, the King of Heroes watch you face the trials ahead. Show me that radiance hidden within and prove what it takes to be a hero!"
"…He's…He's in a good mood today…" Hakuno thought with a bemused expression on her face. She still has a long way to go with trying to understand this Servant's thoughts. But if she were to make a guess…Gilgamesh saw promise inside of Bell and wants to see his full potential and is encouraging Bell to become stronger and chase his dream. Even pursuing a relationship with her, which she's still trying to comprehend at the moment.
"Yes! I'll do my best, sir!" Bell saluted, swayed by that A+ Charisma instantly.
…What was Gilgamesh planning? He's neutral in this world and his talks of gods should have left him in a bad mood just being here. Was it because she killed Ishtar and promised he could do whatever he wanted with her corpse? Wait, it must because she killed Ishtar that he's in a good mood. She needed to finish off her experiments with the corpse before trying one last thing if only to keep her 'husband' in a good mood.
Using Ishtar's corpse as a catalyst.
A/N: I kind of wanted to emphasize on the word polyamorous instead of harem to describe Hakuno's relationship with her Servants. Because in the Extella games, Hakuno having Nero and Tamamo in the relationship is best described as one. Besides, Hakuno never got the receiving end of the Anti-Harem Noble Phantasm of Tamamo so there had to be a way they averted that scenario.
The word polyamorous is the meaning of intimate relationships with more than one partner and is informed consent with others. An open relationship that works things out with handling of jealousy which Hakuno has mastered in Extella canonically if Nero and Tamamo's behaviors are to be believed.
Welp, that's enough ranting on that. I am slowly focusing on more relaxed chapters not involving the Dungeon this time around. Can't be Danmachi without the silly events, right?
And for Gil and Hakuno…I can't stop enjoying fanfics where Gil just teases her and leaves her red faced in embarrassment with his antics. Is it Wrong to See Hakuno Blush?
