Okay so, I wrote this months ago, like not even that long after the Manga ended and decided it was needed. We didn't get to see everyone's high school years and the recap was so quick, I figured why not write it myself. I feel that it would go something like this though I did put a LOT of my own headcanons into it so if you're not with them, idk to each their own. Anyway, enjoy!
My Hero Academia: Eight Years Later, The Rematch
The roar of the crowd was deafening, the rows of people in the stands pierced Izuku Midoriya's ears as he smiled wide. The smell of popcorn and sweets filled the noses of everyone who had made it, of course it was needed for such an occasion. The fabled rematch had been marketed for years now, even back to their high school days at U-A. Everyone was unsure if it would ever happen, but after recent public trash talk pushed by magazine and online media companies, it was no shocker when a formal challenge from Dynamight towards AirCon Hero: Shoto made its way to everyone's televisions.
After that it was only a matter of time before it was set in stone.
"Oh man! This is awesome! Look at this turnout guys!" Eijiro Kirishima aka Sturdy Hero: Red Riot said as he sat in the VIP access room beside his former classmates. Joining him was the current number six hero Izuku Midoriya, aka Deku who sat beside Tenya Ida, Turbo Hero: Ingenium and Fumikage Tokoyami, Jet Black Hero: Tsukuyomi.
Filling the rows below them was the rest of the former Class 1-A. From Pro Hero Kyoka Jiro aka Earphone Jack and Momo Yaoyorozu aka Creati to Ochako Uraraka, also known as Uravity. Joining this reunion were former teachers as well, such as the retired heroes Eraserhead, All Might and the class's former principal, Nezu. The former class weren't the only ones who sat in anticipation, you could feel it in the air. Everyone was ready for this rematch.
"It isn't something to argue about but you can definitely make your theories! While Kachan has certainly improved since our high school days, you never know if Todoroki will overwhelm him as a master of his quirk now." Deku spoke as he fell into his typical mutter, everyone either simply laughed or shook their head at this as Ochako grabbed his hand, "Why don't we wait for the match to start to see if you're right?" The now Pro Hero simply smirked as he tightened his grip on her hand.
The crowd's roar reached new heights as Dynamight entered the Stadium, with a cocky smirk on his face. Clad in his official Hero Armor, Great Explosion God Murder Dynamight was a well known Pro Hero following the War against All for One. He shot up in the rankings and his position has varied over time from controversy to controversy. Though if he was anything it was very popular, considering he was a hero who said whatever he wanted, you don't find many like that. Most will say what the media wants so that their name is spread around or they earn a guaranteed payday. If it was any consolation, Dynamight was a one of a kind hero.
Entering the stadium after him was his heated rival eight years in the making. Shoto Todoroki, known to the hero world as Shoto, was very popular for many reasons. For one he was the son of the former controversial number one and number two hero, Endeavor. He was also brother to one of All for One's former subordinates, Dabi. But Shoto simply knew him as Toya, his older brother. Shoto Todoroki was many pieces of a puzzle, but if anything he was a changed man following the war. He knew exactly what his family history looked like to the public eye and over the course of eight years, he'd spoken openly about it. No longer like how he was in his UA days, he was now a grown adult and powerful hero now, which also explained why he had the number one fan base right now, even over number one hero, Comedy Hero: Lemillion, who was in the stands with the rest of Class 1-A right now.
His family turmoil used to control him, even going as far as to reject his father's quirk for years. But to Shoto, it was now a thing of the past. He carried with him the memory of his late brother Toya and his controversial father. He had stated many times to the media that as a hero, he vowed to use the painful lesson of his own family and never again let such a thing happen to any family, and it was a promise he had kept over the course of his hero career.
Though none of this was why either of the two Pros stood in the UA Academy Stadium today. It was to simply settle a longtime rivalry. This was the very stadium the two duked it out as first years. Bakugo's win went down as the most controversial in the school's history. He himself still saw it as a loss to this day.
But today's where that all changed.
It all started back when the former first year Class had planned an Alumni Outing together. It's hard work being a hero, a Pro at that. The job keeps you busy and you barely have free time to yourself. After talking publicly towards one another through various forms of media, the two met privately at the Alumni Outing.
Three Weeks Prior
"So you really want to do this?" Shoto Todoroki asked his former classmate as the two stood next to each other, overlooking a beautiful blue beach on the sandy shores of Shirahama.
"Of course, do you have any idea how long I've been wanting to kick your ass for?!" Katsuki Bakugo yelled as Todoroki simply smiled. "I noticed, "He's lucky if he walks after I'm done with him", I really wish you worded that better because it didn't take long for those fan edits to pop up in my feed again." Bakugo physically cringed at this as he smacked his forehead.
"You know what, I'll let you have that one. Only because I got bombarded with the same thing." He held his hand over his mouth as Shoto audibly laughed at this, "Alright than. So it's settled, you and me, just like before." Shoto said as he held out his hand. Bakugo looked at it for a minute before smugly smirking and shaking his hand back, ensuring to heat it up as he did so, "You got that right damn it!"
This rematch was the first on the To Do List after the two announced it to the group.
Not only did the former first year class turn up, but so did their sister class, Class 1-B who also sat in the VIP room with them. Celebrities all over the world turned up to see the rematch as promotion companies fought over who would be the one to sponsor such a big event. In the end it went to Disney. Typical.
"Man this is going to be so hardcore! Bakugo's wiping the floor with Todoroki!" Kirishima said as he punched his fists together, a wide grin marking his face. "Agreed man! Todoroki stands no chance against the man BAKUGO?!" Most of TetsuTetsu's former classmates covered their ears as Battle Fist, former class representative of Class 1-B sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose, "Still loud I see."
"As much as I adore your 'manly' enthusiasm sweetie" Ridley Hero: Pinky said with air quotes around manly, "let's try not to play favorites." Mina said as she gently brought her husband's fists down.
"But… didn't you place a bet on Bakugo Ashido-Chan-" Pro Hero Froppy began to say before Mina covered her mouth, "Hey the less everyone knows about that the better..." the Pink haired Pro said as she looked at Yaoyorozu, who just rolled her eyes with a smirk.
Creati simply laughed, "It's fine if you all make your bets, no worries… BUT MY TODOROKI IS GOING TO MAKE BAKUGO EAT HIS WORDS TODAY!" Momo was an avid fan of her husband, maybe even his number one fan, though admittedly, she sometimes was too much of a fan.
Everyone laughed nervously as Camie Utsushmi, Bakugo's sometimes girlfriend, (the media wasn't even sure anymore) spoke up, "Sorry sweatshop, but my Bakugo's been working for a long time for this one. No way he loses to half and half." Everyone froze as Momo turned to her. Everyone tensed unsure of what was to follow as Momo held her glare on Pro hero Illu-o-Camie. She smirked and retorted, "Wanna bet?"
Everyone couldn't believe what they'd just heard, was this the same Momo they'd known? Camie smirked and shook Yaoyorozu's hand. Eraserhead simply sighed as All Might smiled and let out a light chuckle, "Even as young adults I can still see the children in them." All Might exclaimed as Aizawa rolled his eyes and said in his normal monotone voice, "You'd think they would've grown out of it."
"Oh come now, surely you don't mean to say you don't possibly find this somewhat exciting?" All Might said as Aizawa bit his tongue. In all honesty, he didn't care who won. He didn't care who lost. He didn't care about the fight at all, but he was looking forward to seeing just where his former students stood at now. What were the limits of their powers? That was why he was there. Of course it wasn't like it was because he secretly loved his former students. That would be a stretch.
"Oh he's just saving face All Might! Eraser here loves his kids, he never passes up the chance to protect them when the media jumps on them, ain't that right Eras-" Aizawa glared daggers at Miss Joke, actually he was just looking at her without any expression, though she had been around him long enough to understand his minimal expressions, "I don't know what you're talking about."
All Might simply laughed as he looked back down to the arena. "Alright everyone, I think this match is finally starting!" He shouted as everyone took their seats. Camie and Momo looked at each other once more before looking down to their partners, "You got this sweetie!" Momo yelled, "Kick his ass Baku-babe!" Camie yelled, "Seriously, all these years later and you're still talking like that?" Mineta asked as she created an illusion of him being stomped on by Mt. Lady triggering his PTSD.
Down on the arena floor Bakugo and Todoroki faced one another, smirks plastered on both their faces as they took their respective stances. Bakugo being the first to speak up, the conversion would've been silent had the media companies not set up microphones to pick up any trash talk.
"Gotta hand it to you Icy Hot, I didn't think you'd agree to this! But trust me I ain't complaining. I've been waiting a long time to stick your ass into the mud, the right way this time!" Bakugo's tenacity and aggression was still the same as ever. Shoto simply cracked his neck as he held Dynamight's cocky glare.
"And I'm surprised you still have a hate boner for me. After almost a decade though I can't be surprised, you're usually all talk." Todoroki's vocabulary had grown since his high school days. The camera crews mic had picked this up as Todoroki sent a thumbs up into the VIP room holding an innocent smile on his face. It's unknown if this is because of his time with his wife or the fans he meets from his hero work, no one knows for sure.
Everyone in the booth glared at a certain purple grape haired former classmate of theirs. Mineta nervously laughed as he pulled at his collar, "So like, let's all enjoy the f-fight guys! Trash talk is normal… right?" Everyone looked between each other as they shrugged, as dirty as the guy was you couldn't argue against that.
Present Mic's voice suddenly filled the stadium as he spoke into a megaphone, "Alright everybody! I think it's about time we got this show on the road! We all know the rules and I'm not wasting any time repeating 'em! NOW! LET'S GET READY TO RU- Oh I can't say that? Why? Copyright? ...ANYWAY! PRO HEROES! YOU MAY BEGIN IN THREE! TWO! FIGHT!" Just as the word left Present Mic's mouth, Bakugo shot up into the sky like a missile. A smoketrail followed suit as Shoto watched from the grounds of the arena.
The roar of the arena channeled the anticipation everyone felt. Years in the making finally culminating in this once in a lifetime event. Bakugo grabbed hold of his grenade like gauntlets as Deku's eyes widened, he had thought of a scenario where Bakugo might do this but he hadn't thought it would occur, and especially not this quickly. Bakugo shot the grenade from the air as it sent a wave of explosions gunning for the AirCon hero.
Shoto barely had enough time to create a fortress of ice around him to counter the attack. Once meeting, ice was melted and sent flying everywhere outside the battlegrounds of the arena.
Everyone watched closely as they felt that Shoto was hit with the blast but Deku had seen it.
"Oh man! Don't tell me Todoroki's out for the count already!" Stun Gun Hero; Chargebolt exclaimed as Deku spoke up, his grin evident by his tone of voice, "No, just as the explosion hit Todoroki's fortress Kachan flew down, using the explosion and smoketrail as cover, anticipating Todoroki's move!" Everyone was surprised by this but sure enough, as the smoke cleared Bakugo held Todoroki by the collar just inches from the edge of the battle arena as the crowd exploded at this.
"So, where's all that shit you was just talking about me being, all talk?" Bakugo said with a wide smirk as Todoroki just smiled at him. He heated up the left side of his body as Bakugo's eyes widened and he stepped back, landing in the middle of the ring as Shoto smirked, his left side being submerged in flames. The ice and fire users control had grown exponentially in the last decade.
"Don't worry Bakugo, I know that wasn't your best." Shoto said as he used his flames to boost himself to the middle of the ring in seconds, landing a blow with an ice coated fist to the explosion connoisseur's gut. The move shocked Bakugo as well as the crowd as most exclaimed in worry, no doubt those who had bet thousands on Dynamight.
Angrily grinning, Bakugo dodged another punch as he waited for Todoroki to punch again. Once Shoto tried an uppercut, Bakugo held onto his arm as he used explosions to change his stance, pulling Shoto over his shoulder as he threw him into the air. Using an explosion boost to propel himself up he landed a knee to Shoto's gut, followed by a doubled fisted axe slam back down to the floor of the battleground.
Boosting back down Bakugo spun in the air going for a bicycle kick to Shoto's back though he slides out of the way before this can happen. Upon impact, Bakugo made a small crater where Todoroki laid just a few seconds ago. He then walked out of it exclaiming, "C'mon Icy Hot! Stop running damn it!" He yells as he boosts after him as Todoroki matches this and propels himself forward as well. The two's fists collide creating a small shockwave on impact though they hold fists as they bashed their foreheads together.
"I don't get it." Kirishima said as he sat back in his seat. Bakugo's explosions rumbling the arena and Todoroki's ice leaving a slight chill in the air. Mina turned to him, her daily curiosity peaked, "What do you mean?" She asked as Kirishima crossed his arms, "They seem evenly matched, even at their best. I don't get it. I for sure thought Baku-Bro would've ended this quickly!"
"That's because my son isn't using his best." The voice of a former Pro Hero spoke up as everyone looked towards him. Endeavor was an older man now, in his mid fifties though he looked as if pushing sixty. A grey beard adorning his face instead of his usual scarlet peach fuzz. His scars now faded into his skin from the war that decided humanity's fate, though still prominent. They were usually the first thing you'd notice upon looking at the former Pro.
"What do you mean?" Izuku couldn't help but ask, his own curiosity also peaked. "My son has taken the flame and made it his own, an extension of his body and not just an ability. He was always a prodigy, but now… All I'll say is let's hope he doesn't use his Trump card against this bravado driven young man." Endeavor said as some of the class now felt unsure and swayed by the former Pro's words. Just where did Bakugo stand in this match against Todoroki? Deku asked himself.
"No. I think we're in this for the long run." Izuku spoke up as he watched the fight closely. Bakugo dodged another punch from Todoroki as he landed a hit on Shoto's liver, causing him to back up just slightly.
"What do you mean Midorya?" Ida asked as Kaminari piped in, "Yeah man, I'm curious too! Totally not because I got money on Bakugo or anything.."
Jiro now intrigued as she crossed her eyes at her human charger, "How much money?" She asked as Kaminari froze like a deer in headlights.
"Kachan has always said he's improving everyday. While most would think it's just bragging, has he ever been one to lie?" Deku asked as his former classmates couldn't answer. They had to admit he had a point, Bakugo always meant what he said, one way or another he got it done.
"You're saying Bakugo also has something up his sleeve?" Uraraka asked as she looked at Deku curiously. He nodded, "I think Kacchan will surprise everyone with what he's hiding."
Endeavor looked from the green haired hero to the fight below him. His son conjured ice spikes under the explosion hero who melted them in seconds as he flew towards his son, landing a knee to the chin. This young hero couldn't be right. His son would win this fight. It was set in stone the second he walked in the ring.
"SHOW ME SOMETHING NEW YOU PRINCE ZUKO BASTARD WANNABE!?" Bakugo yelled as he body slammed Shoto onto his back, the latter letting out a painful gasp as the wind had been knocked out of him. Bakugo stood over him as he glared angrily, tempted to kick him he instead watched as his opponent picked himself back up.
"I know you're holding back." Bakugo stated as Shoto stood now on shaky legs, holding his gut as he tried to find his breath.
Shoto in turn smiled as he now held his hips with a smirk, "That obvious huh?" Barely dodging an AP Shot as it slightly singed his face. Bakugo glared angrily as he flared his nose, steam releasing like a bull, "You bastard! We agreed to go all out, or did I hit you so hard you forgot damn it!"
Todoroki got over his shock as he smiled, then shrugged, "Oh I remembered, I just wanted to enjoy myself a bit before ending this so quickly. Where's the fun in that? Gotta give the people some kind of show right?" Todoroki's cocky statement sent Bakugo over the edge. Yelling out, he angrily brought his second grenade gauntlet up as he pulled the trigger.
The explosion sent pieces of the battleground flying as many in the stands looked to see if Shoto was okay or possibly knocked out of bounds. As the smoke cleared Endeavor sighed as he crossed his arms, "This fight is over."
The students former teacher face palming, "Damn kid still lets his temper get the better of him. I thought you were going to talk to him about it!" Aizawa yelled at Deku who only laughed nervously, "Well I tried but..." Bakugo wasn't interested in listening that day as he sent Midoriya flying out of his agency.
The crowd's roars picked back up and caught the number six Hero's attention as the smoke cleared, with Todoroki holding down Bakugo's fist with a hand coated in blue flames. His suit slightly burned from Bakugo's attack though still intact. Bakugo, stuck in place, couldn't believe his eyes. He figured Icy Hot had an ace card up his sleeve, but this? This was the last thing he thought of.
"I can't believe this people! Shoto has stopped Dynamight in place with BLUE FLAMES!" Present Mic said as the crowd cried out in a wave of cheers, oh's and boo's.
Bakugo pushed Todoroki away as he stood back now analyzing the flame in Todoroki's hand.
"Blue flames huh? Gotta say, I figured you had something but... Nah, I don't give a shit!" He said with a smirk as he began taking off some armor from his hero suit, revealing his built arms as the fan girls in the crowd began to cheer.
"Yeah. Been working on this for some time now, I kept it secret so as to not have the media tail me everywhere I went. I figured now was as good a time as any to use it." Shoto said as he watched as Bakugo turned his belt of grenades into a satchel around his shoulder.
Shoto watched in curiosity at what Bakugo had planned, though he couldn't help but feel excited, his anticipation growing dangerously inside of him. Their fight had been more fun than he thought it would be. He let Bakugo have his fun for a bit, though now it was his time to show out.
Bakugo watched Icy Hot carefully. He now knew the extent of his opponent's power. He tanked a gauntlet shot with his flames like it was nothing. Now he knew he couldn't hold back anymore. Yeah, he was also holding back. Was that hypocritical? Maybe. But like Todoroki said, where's the fun in ending the fight early?
"Blue flames. Todoroki's really reached a new level." Deku exclaimed as he wrote down at a scarily fast pace in his notebook on Todoroki's new advancement.
His former classmates simply shook their heads as they expected this to happen. All Might took a seat next to Endeavor as he asked, "So, I take it this is young Todoroki's 'trump' card' you were talking about?"
Endeavor nodded as he watched his son closely, "The other boy won't last five minutes against this."
"Hm. Then I guess we'll just have to watch and see the turnout, eh old rival?" All Might asked as Endeavor slightly shifted his head towards the older All Might before looking back towards the battle, a smile slightly adorning his usual frown.
Todoroki was the first to engage, starting the second round as he glided around Bakugo, his opponent quick to match this as the two had taken their fight to the air. Bakugo sent out explosions to keep him afloat while also on the offensive as Todoroki used fire from his foot to keep him up while using his arm as defense.
Truth be told, he still hadn't fully mastered the flying part of his quirk with his flames, though he couldn't help but follow Bakugo's lead.
Bakugo boosted towards his opponent as he pulled Todoroki towards him, kneeing his gut, followed by a headbutt as he held Todoroki towards the ground, now boosting them both down.
Slamming him into the center of the arena, this did little to affect the Ice and Fire user as he pushed him off of him. Bakugo was barely able to dodge a flame spear as Todoroki had movements had advanced, "He's quicker now." Bakugo noted to himself as he crossed his arms over his face as Shoto ended up behind him, Bakugo's eyes widening as his opponent landed a kick against his back, followed by him melting the floor under them with his heat, Bakugo barely had time to adapt as he took a kick to the face from Todoroki.
Todoroki advanced on his progress as he coated his left fist in flames and ice on his right, sending out a flurry of punches. His newfound second wind had caught Dynamight off guard as he was getting caught with punches and could only focus on defense.
"Woah now! Look at this crowd! Shoto has Dynamight on the defensive! What a turnaround from before!" Present Mic yelled as the crowd screamed out 'Shoto' in chants. His victory was clear to the crowd, though those in the Pro Hero seats watched with a mix in between them. While Todoroki looked good, Deku could notice he was slightly rushing, unlike when he used his normal flames where he seemed more composed.
That's when Deku realized, "The other boy won't last five minutes against this". He remembered what Endeavor had said. Todoroki had a time limit, and he was trying to knock Bakugo out of the arena with the time he had left.
"Damn, at this rate my blue flame will run out before I can knock him out of the arena. I'll have to use my finishing move!" Todoroki said to himself before landing an uppercut on Dynamight and bringing his inflamed arm to his chest, "FLAME TORNADO!"
"SON OF A-" Bakugo yelled as he kept his arms crossed, covering his face as the flames took shape around him, forming a giant mid air tornado followed by several unanimous explosions, shaking the arena and covering it in a blue tint as the crowd roared to Todoroki's definite victory, everyone in the VIP stands looked on in a mix of shock or surprise.
"YES! THERE WE GO MY LOVE!" Momo shouted from her seat as she then looked to Camie but was confused to see she still wore her smug smirk, "Oh it's not over yet" Momo raised an eyebrow at her as her rival pointed up, everyone looked up as their eyes widened, "Welp, there goes my one hundred thousand yen" Kaminari said as Jiro's eyes widened as she proceeded to angrily interrogate her human charger about this money he bet.
Todoroki breathed heavily as he fell to one knee, the blue flames that adorned his body quickly cooled down to their normal red now. He stood back up on shaky legs and was about to address the crowd but noticed they were quiet now, he then heard slight clapping as he looked up, eyes wide in shock. Dynamight floated in the air with his hero costume slightly burned though otherwise he was fine, he then landed back on the arena floor as he cracked his neck.
"Gotta hand it to you Icy Hot, you surprised me there! Didn't think you had that in you, you owe me a new suit ya' ginger Targaryen bastard!" He yelled with a smug smirk on his face as the crowd exploded once again, shaking the arena.
"That's… But that's not possible.." Endeavor said as he sat up in his seat, his surprise then replaced with respect, "Perhaps.. I underestimated this young man." All Might couldn't help but smile at this.
"How are you-" Todoroki began to say though Bakugo cut him off.
"It was easy to see through. I can tell you haven't practiced it all that much. Just as you engulfed me in your flames I was able to use the proceeding explosions to keep me afloat. It took me a second to catch the rhythm especially since it was all exploding around me, but that's never been hard for me, so I adapted pretty quickly!" As Dynamight explained himself, Todoroki couldn't help but be surprised by this guy, all these years later, his battle intellect was still advancing. Had he not been controversial he could definitely see him being higher in the hero rankings.
Todoroki gripped his fists as he smiled deeply before meeting Bakugo's eyes, "Alright then, so the next one will just have to be bigger!" He yelled as he began to power up.
Surprising Bakugo yet it didn't bother him, instead he smiled at Shoto's determination, he then began to create explosions of his as he yelled, "I WANT NOTHING LESS SHOTO! GIVE ME YOUR ALL OR NOTHING YA' UGLY BASTARD!?" He started to a cyclone of explosions forming around him where he stood, the arena now shook from both Pros newfound battle heart.
Everyone in their seats felt the heat from the center of the arena, some felt overwhelmed as others yelled for them to finally end this! The crowd yearned for a winner, in the VIP stands they too felt the change in the air.
"These two need to calm down!" Aizawa yelled as he was about to stand up and use his quirk but two hands on his shoulders stopped him, behind him were All Might and Endeavor. They hadn't said anything but their faces told him everything he needed to know. Aizawa took a second before he yielded, sighing as he sat back down crossing his arms, "Fine."
The two Pros in the arena then rushed at each other as their fists collided, creating an even more powerful shockwave than before, the entire stadium shook from his power and destroying the arena battleground entirely. Bits and pieces flew above the stands where seated Pros had to knock away any flying debris.
Cementos, a retired Pro hero, sat in shock as he crossed his arms, "Yeah, I'm not fixing that."
When the smoke had finally cleared both heroes lay on the ground unconscious, no piece of arena anywhere to be found, everyone in the stadium was left with one question on their mind, "So… who won?" Kaminari asked as Present Mic received a notecard from an executive, "Oh, um, alright folks I've just received word, after the explosion of the arena and subsequent knockout of both heroes, they have this match between Pro Heroes Shoto and Dynamight a, DRAW!" He yelled as everyone couldn't believe it. It had happened right in front of them and yet they still couldn't believe it.
To say the outcome was disappointing, was immeasurable, though many did still appreciate the battle. The crowd roared in delight at the fight they had witnessed.
Afterwards
Shoto and Dynamight laid in separate beds as their former classmates stood outside the room.
"Be honest, was that really all you had to offer me?" Bakugo asked as Todoroki sat up, "Yes. To be honest I didn't think I'd need to go that far. Why? Are you upset again?" He asked as Bakugo just smiled.
"Nah, matter fact I'd say I'm pretty content right now. I hate the outcome, don't get me wrong, draw or not I'm still going to kick your ass one of these days!" He yelled as Todoroki just laughed, laughing from the heart as he finally felt like he had enjoyed himself after so long. He then held out his hand.
"Alright then, to next time?" He asked as Bakugo looked at his hand before accepting it with a smug smile, "Hell yeah."
