(After season 5)

A/N: I posted chapters 3 thru 5 earlier, but Fanfiction didn't notify anyone, so you will need to read those before you read chapter 6.

I don't own Bones.

Ooooooooooooooooooo

They'd spent the weekend together and Brennan knew that it was time for her to go back to work. Watching Booth get ready for work, Brennan moved to the edge of the bed and sighed. "It has been an enjoyable weekend, but I need to return to my apartment, change clothes and go to the Lab. Are you working on a case right now?"

"No, we just cleared up one last Thursday . . . Clark did a good job, but I think you'd have helped me solve the case sooner. He needs more experience." His tie the way he wanted it, Booth turned from the mirror and faced his partner. "I think he prefers to work with ancient remains not someone whose been killed recently."

"Yes, I have heard him say that." Brennan removed her clothes from the chair near the closet and began to dress. "Booth . . . I don't wish to tell anyone we're in a relationship at this moment . . . Once Angela finds out about us, you know she will be filled with advice for both of us and I don't wish to hear that advice at this time. What works for her will not necessarily translate as sound advice for us. I'd like to wait a month or so then tell her and the rest of our friends about us . . . That will give us time to become comfortable with what we're doing and we can ignore unsolicited advice . . . Alright?"

Surprised, Booth felt like there was more to her request than she was saying, but he didn't know if he should ask her. "Yeah . . . sure." Slipping his jacket on, Booth stared at his partner for a moment. "Bones . . . yeah, it's fine." Since he didn't know what else to say, he walked over to where she was standing and kissed her. "Hey, I'll meet you for lunch at noon unless we have a case . . . I love you, Bones. We're going to be fine. I promise you that. This is going to work out. We just have to make sure we talk to each other . . . If you think something is wrong between us, talk to me and I'll do the same."

After she returned his kiss, Brennan sighed. "Yes . . . I'll meet you for lunch." Once she was alone, she buttoned up her blouse and entered the living room to look for her purse and jacket. Once she donned her jacket, she entered the kitchen and found her partner pouring coffee in a large travel mug. "Booth . . . I just want to make sure before we tell anyone."

His coffee poured, Booth placed the coffee carafe down on the counter. "Bones, it's okay . . . really. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. I don't have a problem waiting to tell anyone, but you know Angela is like a bloodhound. We'll have to act like partners and nothing else when we're in public . . . It might be a good idea anyway. You're a famous author and once your fans find out about us, they're going to be a little wild on social media. You know I'm right . . . Once you're ready, we'll tell our friends and you can tell your publicist not to mention I need to talk to the Deputy Director about our change in relationship."

"I don't see that as an issue, Booth. After all I did date Andrew Hacker a few times and the FBI didn't object." Brennan knew about the non-fraternization rule at the Hoover, but obviously it didn't apply to her since she worked for the Jeffersonian.

"True, true." Booth knew that if Deputy Director tried to interfere with his relationship, he would bring up Hacker dating Brennan. He wasn't going to lose his partner without a fight. "It's fine, Bones. You'll see." Moving closer to her, he kissed her. "There's some coffee left if you want a cup before you leave."

Thirsty, Brennan poured a cup of coffee and drank some of it. "I enjoyed our weekend together. You're an excellent lover."

"Well, thank you." Pleased with the compliment, Booth moved closer, kissed her and moved over to the doorway. "I got to go. Help yourself to anything you want. I have some apples in the fridge along with some yogurt. Parker loves that stuff."

Once she was alone, Brennan retrieved a cup of yogurt from the fridge and a spoon from a flatware drawer. Settled at the table with her cup of coffee, she found that she was quite pleased with how her weekend had been. She had always suspected that Booth would be compatible with her and he truly was a considerate lover.

Oooooooooooo

To say she was surprised to see her forensic anthropologist walk through the entrance would have been an understatement. Cam hadn't heard Brennan was back and she wondered if she should be concerned or not. "Dr. Brennan are you back or just visiting?"

"I am back. The dig has proved to be a waste of time and grant money." Brennan still felt disappointed about the dig, but it was time to move on. "If they do discover anything that requires my expertise then they will contact me and I will go back, but I am certain that will not happen . . . Ms. Wick chose to stay just in case I'm wrong." She shrugged her shoulders. "It is her right to do so."

Glad to have her specialist back, Cam smiled. "Well, welcome back . . . We've had a few interesting cases come up, but so far Booth and Clark have been able to solve them . . . We do have three new arrivals in Bones Storage. The victims were found when a site was being prepared for a new bank near the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Clark did a quick examination and they appear to be old remains and since he was busy helping Booth on a case he decided to wait until he had time to examine them thoroughly or until you came back."

"Alright." Brennan decided that she would look at them as soon as possible. "It will be interesting to see just how old they are." Moving down the hallway, she waved at Angela who hurried over to where Brennan was.

"Brennan, why are you back so soon?" Angela was surprised to see her friend and hoped nothing bad had happened to her. "You're alright aren't you?"

She appreciated that her friend was happy to see her, but Brennan was puzzled that Angela thought something was wrong. "I'm fine. The dig hasn't been successful so far and I don't think it will be even though Dr. Bashear is continuing to excavate the site. There is no evidence that the site was ever occupied and I feel it is a waste of grant money . . . It's not my money being wasted, so I wish Dr. Bashear good luck. I did tell him that if he does find any human remains, I will return. I do owe him that."

"Well, I'm glad you're back." She hugged Brennan again. "I missed you."

"Thank you." Brennan moved towards her office. "I have already let Booth know about my return, so I am available if he has a new case."

Pleased that their group was back together, Angela smiled and walked back to her office. She had been worried about her friend and had been unhappy that Brennan hadn't called or written to her, but Brennan didn't see the world like most people did and she knew complaining about it wouldn't accomplish anything.

Ooooooooooooo

Unable to hide how happy he was, Booth decided to stay in his office and work on reports. He didn't want anyone to pry into his business. He knew he'd been a little gloomy lately, but now that Brennan was back, he felt so happy. He'd been shocked that she had returned so early and that she was willing to give him a chance still stunned him a little. Thank God I didn't click with Martha. That would have been too awkward.

He also knew that his turning down Colonel Pelant had been the best thing he could have done for himself. How awful would it have been if Brennan had come back and he'd been stuck in Afghanistan.

Working on his budget, Booth was surprised when he was interrupted by Sweets entering his office. "What do you want?"

A little depressed, Sweets walked over towards Booth's desk and sat down on the chair facing his desk. "I . . . uh . . . well, I was wondering if you've heard from Dr. Brennan lately. Daisy wrote to me last month, but she didn't really say anything except that they hadn't had any luck yet . . . I was wondering if Dr. Brennan had anything to say about the dig . . . maybe she has an idea when they're going to wrap it up."

Since Sweets was going to find out that Brennan was back sooner or later, Booth decided to just break the news. "Bones is back. She came back last week and she's back at work today. She said the dig is a dud, but Daisy still hopes it won't be so she stayed . . . Sorry man."

Shocked and a little angry, the younger man crossed his arms against his chest. "So, Dr. Brennan came back and Daisy didn't? I can't believe this. I really can't . . . if it's a bust she needs to come home."

Shrugging his shoulders, Booth knew that the kid was angry. "Her career is just starting, so she wants to be there if they make a discovery. Bones has already made her reputation and she doesn't need to stick with digs that aren't producing results . . . Either you can accept that or you can't." Booth didn't think Sweets could see the big picture. He was still a kid and he wanted the world to revolve around him. Booth had learned a long time ago that the world was indifferent at best to what he wanted. "Write her again and see how long she's going to stay."

Not sure he cared, Sweets shook his head. "I did write her last week . . . she didn't write back."

"Then that's your answer." Booth needed to get back to work. "Look I'm busy. You don't have any control over what Daisy does. Either you accept that or you don't."

Standing, Sweets thrust his hands in his pants pockets. "That's easy for you to say. Dr. Brennan is back."

Annoyed, Booth leaned back against his chair and glared at his young friend. "I didn't stop Bones from going on the dig and I didn't influence her to come back. She had a job to do and I accepted that. You do that for the people you care about. She's my friend and I'd never stop her from doing what she wants to do . . . Sure I didn't want her to go and I asked her to stay, but it was her decision to leave and I had to accept that. She's my friend and I want her to be happy. You can be happy for Daisy or not. It's up to you. If you can't let her do what she needs to do then break up with her . . . you're not really meant to be together."

Shaking his head, Sweets knew he should keep his mouth shut, but he was angry. "Yeah, well it's easy to be glib when your partner is back and my girlfriend isn't."

His eyes hooded, Booth decided he didn't appreciate Sweets' comment. "You get the hell out of my office and don't come back until you get your shit together. I have work to do and I'm not interested in your bullshit."

Worried, Sweets held his hand out towards Booth. "Look . . . I'm sorry."

Angry, Booth turned to face his PC and ignored the younger man.

Aware that he'd crossed a line he shouldn't have, Sweets sighed. "I am sorry, Booth." Since the man didn't respond he left and walked back up to his office. "I'm glad that Dr. Brennan is back, but I don't know what I'm going to do about Daisy. I just don't know."
