(Signs in the Silence)
I really don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooo
After his interview with Andrew Winters was done, Booth attended the meeting with the Director and the Deputy Director. They were pleased with Booth's progress and were preparing an announcement that would be given to the press. Once he was out of the Director's office, Booth checked his phone and didn't find any messages from Brennan. Since he knew that Dr. Cestia had worked her into his schedule at 10 a.m. Booth was certain she should be back at her office. Worried, he let Harris know he was going over to the Jeffersonian. He needed to check on her and a phone call wasn't going to do it for him.
Once he was in the Lab, he walked over to Brennan's office and found his partner sitting at her desk, staring at nothing. "Bones . . . What did Dr. Cestia say? Are you okay?" Please God, I need her to be okay.
Startled, Brennan turned to stare at her partner. "Booth." Standing, she moved over to where he was standing and pointed at his neck. "What is that? Why is your neck bruised? What happened to you?"
Lightly rubbing his neck, Booth smiled. "Harold Kouns got a little upset during the interview . . . He, uh . . . attacked me, but Harris knocked him out with the butt of his gun. I'm fine. It's just a few bruises. Kouns has a concussion, but he got what he deserved."
"I should have been there. Harris was lax in his duties as your backup." Furious, Brennan placed the tip of her index finger on the bruise. "I would have made sure this didn't happen."
"Don't worry about it, Bones. It doesn't hurt . . . Kouns is a big guy and he works out, but he's got a sore head for his trouble and Caroline is going to make sure he pays for the things he did working for Taffet." Booth moved closer and kissed her. "Okay, what did Dr. Cestia say? Is it a stomach virus? Are you okay?"
Hesitating, Brennan knew she had to talk to Booth, but she was afraid that her news might be unwelcome. "I . . . I'm pregnant."
Stunned, Booth stared at his partner for a few moments then grinned. "Oh my God, really?" Engulfing her in his arms, he kissed her then hugged her. "This is great, Bones . . . You and me are going to be parents and Parker is finally getting a brother or a sister. He's been bugging me and Rebecca for years about that. He hates being an only child." He knew he was rambling, but he was so happy. "Thank you, Bones. Thank you for giving me a family."
Relieved that Booth wanted the child, Brennan smiled and returned his kiss. "So, you're happy?"
"Happy?" Booth kissed her and tried to let that kiss show her just how much he loved her.
A throat clearing in the doorway interrupted their kiss.
"Better stop. These glass walls let everyone see what you two are up to." Hodgins stared at the couple and smiled. "At least close the blinds before you get carried away."
Annoyed, Booth turned to look at the entomologist. "What do you want?"
Amused, Hodgins responded. "I'm letting you know I've already been out to one of the sites on Pelant's map this morning and found a body there. It's a teenager." His smile gone, Hodgins shook his head. "Yeah, anyway. I'm going out this afternoon to another one of the sites after lunch. It looks like those maps are going to be very useful. Marcus and Cam are processing the grave of the child right now. Once I find the second body, I'll call you Dr. B so you can come out and process the scene. Marcus has a crew on standby ready to go with you. I might do one site a day until I've found them all. No need to get everyone exhausted since they're cold cases and we have time to do this right."
"Thank you." Brennan stepped away from her partner. "Booth, I think a light lunch at the Diner will do today. I'd like to eat light meals for the next few days and see if that will influence my digestion or not. If you'd like to go with me, I'm ready."
Checking his watch, Booth nodded his head. "I have time." Glancing at Hodgins, he smiled. "I'll let Lester know he's going with you this afternoon. Let him know when you're ready to go."
After Hodgins left the doorway, Booth turned to face Brennan. "Maybe we can celebrate our good news this evening . . . no wine of course, but we don't need that stuff to celebrate."
"I agree. You're kisses are quite intoxicating."
"Wow." Booth leaned over and kissed her. "Intoxicating huh?"
Chuckling, Brennan returned his kiss. "I am a bestselling author."
Oooooooooooooo
After lunch, he had dropped by a flower shop near the Diner and bought a dozen daffodils in a clear tulip shaped vase. Admiring them sitting on his desk, Booth hoped Brennan had a better night. He worried that eventually she'd start losing weight if she couldn't keep her food down and that might affect her health.
"Flowers . . . what's the occasion?" Sweets entered the room and pointed at the flowers. "They're nice."
"No occasion. I just think Bones deserves some flowers sometime." Booth folded his hands and stared at his young friend. "What do you want?"
Once he was seated Sweets crossed his legs, hoping to appear friendly and helpful. "I actually don't want anything. I just wanted to check in and see if anyone has spotted Brodsky lately. I know you've been busy with your murder case plus you solved the death of Pelant and wow . . . you found Taffet's accomplices. I mean, we knew she had to have had some and just before she died she told me she wasn't the only one responsible for her crimes, but well you've arrested, Koons, Thomas, Winters and Manning. That's awesome. Taffet's victims are going to get the full justice they deserve."
Clearing his throat, Sweets ran his hand along the crease of his pants. "About your latest case, I know what it's like to be with parents that don't love you . . . Amy . . . I mean Samantha was kidnapped because the Shenfields wanted a child but that child wasn't perfect and they abused her. They're responsible for Duvall Price's death and I hope the DA adds that to the kidnapping charges and the gross abuse . . . at least now Samantha's been returned to her real parents. Someone that really wants her as she is. Maybe they can help give her a better more peaceful life."
"They never gave up looking for Samantha . . . I would never give up if someone took my boy . . . He's fine though. Rebecca is a great Mom and Parker is a happy boy . . . Anyway, no one has spotted Brodsky lately. I have no idea where he is, but there is a warrant out for his arrest and hopefully, he'll make a mistake and we'll get him before he kills someone else."
"Yeah." Standing, Sweets stared at the flowers. "Those are really pretty and I bet Dr. Brennan will like them. Congratulations on the arrests of Taffet's people . . . I know I'll sleep better knowing they're not still out there committing more crimes."
Nodding his head, Booth felt a sense of relief himself. "Barry gave up the name of his pal that had helped him bury some of the victims. Perry Bishop is . . . was an FBI forensic specialist and he helped Barry come up with a plan to bury the victims in a way that would make it harder for anyone to find them . . . Marcus is furious believe me. He thought his crew was loyal to him and found out that Perry was loyal to Barry and the good old American dollar."
"I plan to go talk to Marcus." Sweets walked over to the door. "None of this is his fault." Before he left the room, he paused at the door. "If you want to talk about Taffet and her people let me know. This whole thing was a mess, but now you and Dr. Brennan and Dr. Hodgins have got the justice you deserve along with all the other Gravedigger victims. Angela told me that Hodgins is using the maps that Pelant found on Barry's computer and he plans to check each site to make sure he finds all the victims that are still buried. He wants their families to be able to give them a funeral and a final resting place."
Since he didn't consider himself a victim of the Gravedigger, Booth remained silent and turned back to face his PC. He had a few reports to write up and the Director wanted an update on what Hodgins had accomplished so far. If he finished early enough he might be able to beat Brennan home and cook dinner for her. He wanted to celebrate their good news. A baby . . . wow.
Oooooooooooooo
Let me know what you think of my story. I appreciate it.
