Micheal's POV
A joint venture that I had never seen coming. I had gotten a call from an old Army friend saying that there were a set of twins whose parents had died horribly but the two had to be kept from looking into their parent's death. One had gotten fairly close to finding out the truth which was apparently something that the Army wanted to keep hidden from them. So, we packed up everything from the small paradise where we were living and were going to meet up with Ryan and Birkoff in Seattle where there would be a car waiting to take us to our new homes in La Push.
Though Birkoff has yet to fill me in onto why Sonya isn't coming he did assure me that he could handle anything that was coming his way, and that Alex and Sam would be popping in every so often to see how things were going.
Our flight was the longest of everyone Ryan had been in Canada when I had called him and asked if he could help as it would be a needed relief as I was the only one out of all of us who had managed to actually completed high school and we were going to be dealing with 2 individuals who were both 15 years old and know Ryan he would be able to help them with homework with anything I was unable to assist them with. When we landed Andrew met us at the gate handing me a file. We didn't chat as we made our way to the van.
"It is the file on what was reported as their parent's death. Unfortunately, the girl, Charlie has been digging into it. She doesn't believe the story which was told to them."
"What is the true story as to why their parents are dead?"
Andrew gulped "It was a division job. It happened back quite a few years ago and up until recently Charlie and her twin brother Johnathan had accepted the stories. I don't know what has made her start digging into it. Local authorities are there to help as they fear what will happen if Charlie does ever find out what really happened."
I nodded to him before glancing at Nikita. "Do they know who is living with who yet or have you even decided?"
"With them being 15 and extremely close I figured it would be best if they get to decide that themselves though you can probably expect the local head of the council to pay them a visit within the first few days after they have moved in. His name is Sam Ulley."
Nikita nodded. "What are they so worried about if they find out why their parents were killed. Or was this one of the jobs that Percy took when division was working as hired guns."
Andrew visibly shook. "It was a hired gun situation. Both of the parents were military. Lately Charlie has been looking into the mission her parents were called out on prior to them leaving and the last mission which ended their lives."
"Where are we meeting up with Ryan and Birkoff?"
"They are already at their house, they arrived a few hours ago. Though Ryan has said that they are of an age that they should know what the deal is with their parents and does not agree with the fact that we have buried the truth in a bunch of partial truths."
I laughed for a second. "That is Ryan for you. He will forever believe that the truth is better coming out than not. But why are they more worried about the girl if the truth comes out."
Andrew just shook his head but still answered. "For whatever reason Sam thinks that Charlie's temper will be worse than Johnathan's if she was to ever find out the truth. And I really do trust him when it comes to this. He has been one of the ones who has been instrumental is helping to keep her from finding out the truth of the matter."
Nikita looked at him. "Do we have to worry about her possibly getting a hold of Shadownet and using that to find out the truth?"
I shook my head. "All of the missions from Division have been removed from Shadownet's system so even if she does get a hold of Birkoff's computer there is no way she would be able to find it."
Nikita nodded as we pulled up to a small house. "There are 3 bedrooms in each house. Sam will bring the twins by once you get settled. I told him you should be settled by about 4pm. Which would give you about 3 hours before they should be showing up."
Birkoff came out of his place and stretched smiling at the car as we both got out. "I thought you two would never get here! How was your flight?"
Nikita just shook her head. "Oh nerd. It was okay just long and now we need to unpack and get settled before we get to meet these two."
Birkoff laughed. "Ryan has already said he wants the girl living with us. Something about he thinks they can really challenge each other in the mind department. He has picked up some hours at the local CIA office doing pattern recognition. I have gotten a job working with computers at the high school." He laughed for a second. "I suggest you two find something to do in this small town or you will drive yourselves completely crazy."
I nodded. "Any suggestions?"
Ryan laughed. "The high school in Forks is looking for a female gym teacher. The high school here is looking for a male gym teacher."
Birkoff laughed. "You will have the girl in your class though. For some odd reason she seems to like hanging out with some of the guys in that class. But let's get you two unpacked and then we can get this Sam guy to bring over the twins."
It took the full 3 hours of us working to get everything to where it needed to go before, we were ready for the twins to arrive.
Charlie came in first. She was about 5 foot 2 and what looked to be long hair. Though it was braided and went down to the base of her back. She glanced up at me before walking to the couch.
Johnathan, I assume was next. His hair came down just past his shoulders it was wavy his brown eyes seem to be focused on his sister.
The last one to enter was Sam. He held out his hand to me. "You must be Micheal."
I nodded, pointing to Nikita. "This is my wife Nikita, that is Seymour though he goes by Birkoff and that is Ryan." I pointed them each out to Sam.
He nodded to both of them. "Did you want to attempt to get these two off of their phones or I can do it for you."
Birkoff grabbed Charlie's phone right out of her hands. "Who is Embry?"
Johnathan looked up from his phone and laughed. "Her boyfriend, I mean if you can count an occasional hook up a boyfriend."
Charlie glared at Birkoff. "You can give that back to me. I was in the middle of a conversation."
Johnathan continued to play on his phone before I came over and took it from him walking back to the door of the kitchen.
"Hey, I was talking to Leah."
I glanced at the phone seeing a text that was only half written pressing send and shutting the phone putting it in my pocket. "That is nice. You can come join us at the kitchen table."
Sam stood in the doorway as Charlie managed to wrestle her phone away from Birkoff with a laugh. "You are nothing compared to the guys." She stuck her tongue out at him before resettling on the couch causing me to laugh.
Sam glanced at her before walking over taking the phone from her giving her a stern look. "Now both of you need to get to know your new parents and get settled into your new homes. But tonight, I know you are both nervous so I will give you each something." He turned to Ryan. "You can cook?"
Ryan nodded. "Nikita can as well."
Sam smiled. "Charlie, what do you want for dinner?"
She shrugged, crossing her arms over her chest, and looking away from him. The pure defiance in this girl was going to make it harder to deal with than I had originally thought. "Does it even matter what I want to eat for dinner tonight? I mean this entire thing sucks, the only person in my life I have ever been able to count on for everything is being moved away from me. I was with Emily all day today and she didn't even mention the fact that Jon and I were going to be separated." She got up going and glaring out the front window of the house.
Sam simply ignored her actions before turning to Johnathan. "Did you want anything special for dinner tonight? I was going to let Leah come join you for dinner so you would at least be more comfortable."
Charlie growled. "So, he gets Leah to join him for dinner and I get no one. Thanks a lot Sam."
He huffed. "If you had let me finish, I would have told you that I was going to grab Embry and send him over to join you for dinner tonight. I figured that they could each bring your stuff over. I know Embry can stop by Jake's place for your stuff Charlie and Leah can stop by Quil's for Johnathan's stuff."
Nikita looked between the twins. "If you have both been living apart recently, how is it such a big deal that you be living apart now? I mean we are next door neighbours I am sure you can survive."
Charlie just screamed causing Johnathan to leave his seat and go over to his sister hugging her glaring daggers at Nikita. "It has been a hard few months. The verdict for this came down from the courts the other week that we couldn't stay where we were. Now this gets thrown at us with little knowledge and understanding of our lives."
Birkoff knelt beside Charlie forcing her to meet his eyes. "I get this is hard leaving your family. But I will tell you this; Niki, Mikey and I have been together for years. Ryan is a conspiracy buff who just tags along for things. We will be having picnics and backyard BBQ parties every weekend. Basically, you and your brother will be sleeping in separate houses but other than that nothing has to change."
Charlie nodded standing up finally pushing her brother away from her enough to stand up on her own to feet and going to sit on the arm of the chair beside Ryan. "So, conspiracies, you got any about how my parent's died?"
Sam huffed shaking his head. "Dinner both of you pick please as I am sure that there will need to be some shopping done as well as something for lunches this week at school."
Charlie shook her head. "Spaghetti with chicken meat balls is fine. And as for lunches I am going out for lunch with Embry tomorrow and we can shopping for the rest of the week after school."
Sam nodded before turning to Johnathan. "Dinner for you tonight?"
Johnathan shrugged glaring at his sister. "Penne chicken salad."
Sam nodded turning to both Nikita and Ryan. "Both of you are fine making those?"
They both nodded.
"Okay, I will send the other two over when I make it home after they make their stops. Charlie why don't you go check out your room at your house and Johnathan you check out yours here. And get to know your parents during dinner." Charlie dragged Birkoff towards the house leaving me with Sam and Ryan as Nikita headed for the kitchen to grab what was needed. "I know Charlie is a handful, but for the good of everyone please keep it quiet what you do know. Also, if you need me for anything, I am the head of the reservation." He handed us each a card. "My home and cell numbers. Charlie has a meeting with a counsellor on Tuesday afternoon. She has managed to skip the past 4 that have been set up so I am hoping that maybe you could convince her to go."
Ryan nodded. "I'm sure I can give her some incentive to attend the meeting." With that he left the house heading home himself.
Sam turned to me pointing to the back door. "Please tell me I am not going to have to worry about him telling her anything?"
I shook my head. "Honestly, as funny as it might sound, I think the worst one is going to be Nikita or Sam when he shows up. Sam and Alex are two friends of ours who will be around in and out every so often they will probably stay here when they do come as we do have the spare bedroom for them." I could hear Johnathan helping Nikita in the kitchen. "I will do my best to convince them that either of them finding out is going to be a bad thing."
Sam nodded. "I will send the other two to get their stuff and come over. I hope by doing that it will give them a bit comfort and allow them to open up a bit more." He headed towards the gate leading to the front.
"Does Johnathan have a counselling appointment this week?"
He shook his head. "Only reason for Charlie is her temper is bad enough that it is technically required she misses another 2 and I am going to have to take action. Which could be something pretty bad as I will probably have to get the school to suspend her after her 6th missed one."
