Me: Chapter 8-Electric Shock Showdown
The group have arrived at the entrance of Vermilion City. They all look exhausted. Misty is holding Oddish in her arms
"Finally we made it." Misty says happily and hugs Oddish, "I can't wait to finally sleep in a proper bed again."
Oddish!
"We made it just in time too," Brock adds, "We're low on supplies."
"I can't wait to challenge the gym leader!" Ash shouts excited, "Let's go Pikachu!"
Pi...
Pikachu suddenly collapses from exhaustion
"I don't think Pikachu shares your excitement Ash." Alex says
"Oh we should probably visit the Pokemon Centre first huh." Ash says
The group enter the Pokemon Centre only to see it's complete chaos. Multiple Chansey are carrying injured Pokemon all throughout the Centre and there's a whole bunch of worried trainers
"Calm down everyone! Your Pokemon will be well taken care of." Nurse Joy says
"What's going on here?" Alex asks confused before Brock suddenly sprints past all the trainers and drops to his knee in front of Joy
"Will you take care of me as well Nurse Joy?" Brock asks in a high pitched voice
Alex whacks him over the head with his baseball bat
"You need a different kind of care." Alex says
"Nurse Joy what's with all the trainers?" Ash asks confused
"I'm afraid they're all victims of Lt. Surge." Nurse Joy says
"Lt. Surge?" Ash asks confused
"He's the gym leader of Vermilion City. He's very tough and at times unnecessarily rough on new trainers." Joy says
Ash looks around at all the trainers
"He beat all of them?" Ash asks worried. Nurse Joy nods and Ash gulps
Brock gets back to his feet and rubs his head
"Uh Nurse Joy I know you're busy but would you be able to heal up our Pokemon?" Brock asks
"Ofcourse. Just place them on the cart and Chansey and I will get to it." Joy replies
The four of them are sitting on a couch. Ash stares down at the ground
"Are you ok Ash?" Brock asks
"I'm thinking about Lt. Surge. He must be really strong." Ash says
"I get it. You're worried." Misty says teasingly
"Worried? Not one bit!" Ash says cockily, "Lt. Surge is no match for Pikachu and I!"
"Do you even know anything about Lt. Surge?" Misty asks
"I uh...I know he's strong." Ash replies
"You're hopeless."
The doors to the Centre suddenly open and Joey rushes in clutching his injured Rattata
"Hang on Rattata!" Joey yells
"It's Joey!" The Pokegang say surprised
Joey rushes over to the front desk and hands Rattata over to Nurse Joy
"We'll take care of your Rattata." Nurse Joy says and takes Rattata to the back. Joey sighs and turns around when he notices the Pokegang
Joey is sitting with them
"So Lt. Surge did that?" Alex asks
"Yeah. He called me a baby and said he only needed one Pokemon to beat me. He sent out his Raichu and completely demolished my team." Joey says softly
"A Raichu? As in Pikachu's evolved form?" Brock asks
Joey nods. Ash pulls out his Pokedex
Raichu the Mouse Pokemon. An Electric type. It can loose 100,000-volt bursts of electricity, instantly downing foes several times its size. Raichu is the evolved form of Pikachu
"So that's what Pikachu will evolve into one day." Ash says
"So Surge uses Electric types." Alex says
"Yeah he's obsessed with them." Joey says, "He was going on about how they saved his life in the war or something."
"He sounds intense." Alex says
Ash look worried
"You scared Ash?" Misty asks
"Never!" Ash yells
"You don't stand a chance against Surge." Misty says
"Oh yeah! Why don't you battle him then 'Miss Water Pokemon Master!'" Ash yells at her
"I'd do better than you 'Mr Pokemon Master!'" Misty yells back
The two of them start screaming at each other drawing everyone's attention. Alex,Brock and Joey just slip away
"You'll be sorry once I destroy Surge!" Ash yells and starts waving his fist around. He's so worked up he almost punches Misty by accident but luckily Joy grabs his fist
"Ok that's enough!" She says,"This is a hospital remember."
Ash and Misty notice all the attention they've gotten
"Sorry" They say shamefully
"You know they say when two people fight it means they really care about each other." Joy says
Ash and Misty both blush and look away from each other with huffs
"Anyway I came to tell you that your Pokemon are healed up." Joy says
Ash,Misty,Pikachu and Oddish rejoin the others who are gathered around a video phone. Alex is talking to Professor Oak
"Yes Lt. Surge does have quite the reputation. A few years back there was some kind of Pokemon infestation at the power plant near Vermilion City, Lt. Surge headed out by himself and sorted the whole thing out alone. He's not to be taken likely." Professor Oak says.
He notices Ash in the background looking worried
"While you're there perhaps you should pay a visit to my friend Bill. He's a famous Pokemon researcher who lives in a cottage on the outskirts of Vermilion. Perhaps he maybe able to give you some advice." Oak says
"That's a good idea Professor." Alex says
"I have to go now. Goodluck you two." Professor Oak says before hanging up
"I can't believe you two know Professor Oak." Joey says amazed
"I sometimes forget that Professor Oak is famous. He's always just been Gary's grandfather to us." Alex replies
Ash's eye twitches
"Gary probably beat Lt. Surge." Ash says, "And if that's the case then I have to do it. I will win."
Brock glances outside
"It's starting to get late though,perhaps we should rest and go battle Lt. Surge tomorrow?" Brock suggests
"That's a good idea Brock." Misty says
"Fine." Ash says a little disappointed
"There's still a bit of time left though, let's go visit Professor Oak's friend in the meantime." Alex suggests
"You guys go on ahead. I'm gonna wait for my Pokemon and then I think I'm gonna pay a visit to Diglett Cave." Joey says
"Alright see ya Joey." Ash says and they start leaving
"What's Diglett Cave?" Misty asks
"It's a tunnel system that connects Pewter City and Vermilion. A bunch of Diglett dug it and it's pretty much become their home." Brock says
"We should definitely go there at somepoint." Ash says
"One trip at a time." Alex says
They arrive at Bill's cottage which is huge. It's been built on the shore overlooking the ocean
"Wow it's beautiful here." Misty says
"I hope we won't be disturbing Bill too much." Brock says
"I'm sure it's fine. If he didn't like visitors I doubt Professor Oak would have sent us." Alex replies
Ash knocks on the door
"Hello we're looking for Bill the Pokemon Researcher?" Ash shouts
"Oh good visitors." A voice comes from within the cottage, "Please do come in."
They open the door and head inside. Team Rocket sneak over
"So this is Bill's house. Surely there's some rare Pokemon here we can swipe." Meowth says
"Let's go peak through that window." James suggests
The Pokegang look around Bill's cottage. It's a mess, papers are scattered everywhere and a bunch of machines are all over the place. There's also a giant mural of a bunch of Pokemon
"Man this guy basically fits every stereotype of insane researchers." Alex says
"Where is he anyway?" Misty asks confused
An intercom goes off
"I'm in the back." The intercom says
"I guess he's in the back."
They head in that direction. Ash opens some double doors and they enter a room full of Pokeballs
"Woah he has a lot of Pokemon." Ash says surprised
"Thank you for noticing." They hear a voice. They turn towards it and see a giant Kabuto
"I am Bill." The Kabuto says
"Aaaah!" Everyone screams
Pikachu!
Oddish!
Jessie and James watch terrified from their hiding place
"Another talking Pokemon!" Meowth shouts devastated, "My uniqueness is gone."
"What's the matter?" Bill the Kabuto asks confused
"I'm at a loss for words." Alex says confused
"It can't be. Kabuto are extinct." Brock says shocked
"Wait I'm not a Kabuto." Bill says
"You're not?" Ash asks confused
"This is a robotic costume I constructed. I was using it to experience how Kabuto move when the costume locked itself shut and unfortunately my arms are too short to reach the emergency release button." Bill says
"And you didn't go to find help why?" Misty asks confused
"I couldn't use the door handle properly." Bill admits, "Could you please get me out of this costume? It's hot in here and I'm hungry."
"Oh yeah sure." Alex heads over and pushes the button. The costume retracts itself freeing Bill
"Thank you so much. I've been stuck in there for hours." Bill says
"No problem." Alex says
"Now I believe proper introductions are in order. I am Bill: Pokemon Researcher, Inventor, and Poke Maniac." Bill says
"I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town and I want to become a Pokemon Master." Ash says
"I'm Misty Waterflower from Cerulean City and I want to become a master Water Pokemon trainer." Misty says
"I'm Brock Harrison from Pewter City and I want to become a Pokemon Breeder." Brock says
"And I'm Alex Martin also from Pallet Town and I'm just along for the ride." Alex says

"And this is Pikachu and Oddish." Ash says
"Well nice to meet you all. By any chance did Professor Oak send you here?" Bill asks
"Yeah he recommended we come visit you." Ash says
"That's great. Professor Oak is an old friend of mine, he helped me out back when I first started researching Pokemon." Bill says, "It will be an honour to play host for friends of his."
"This guy's kinda weird isn't he?" James mutters to Jessie
"He's rich though. Perhaps I should introduce myself." Jessie says
"Focus!" Meowth yells at them, "We'll watch and wait for da perfect time to strike."
Bill has given a tour of his cottage. Everyone is now sitting down and relaxing
"So you invented the Pokemon Transport system?" Brock asks
"Yes or atleast the initial version. I've helped improve it since but I'm not the sole person who has worked on it." Bill says
"That's cool" Ash says
"So I assume you kids are gonna battle Lt. Surge for the Thunder Badge?" Bill asks
"Only Alex and I." Ash replies
"Lt. Surge is tough. He has trained all his pokemon to hit hard and do tremendous damage in a short amount of time." Bill says
"I saw the state of some Pokemon that battled him." Ash says
"I think I understand, you're afraid you won't be able to defeat Surge." Bill says
"I uh...yeah..." Ash admits
Bill looks at Ash's Pikachu who is nibbling on some ketchup packets
"I may have a way to help you." Bill says
He gets to his feet and heads over to a draw. He digs inside
"Lt. Surge is well known for his powerful Raichu, with this though you should be able to match his power." Bill pulls out a Thunder Stone
"A Thunder Stone? That will allow Pikachu to evolve into Raichu." Misty says
Pikachu's ears perk up and he looks over confused
Pika?
"Here you go Ash." Bill hands the stone to Ash who stares at it stunned, "Give this stone to Pikachu and he will become a powerful Raichu."
"Look at that Jessie! We'll be able to give the boss a powerful Raichu!" James says excited
"This is great! With that Raichu no doubt we'll be running Team Rocket in no time at all!" Jessie says excited
Meowth keeps watching
Ash looks over at Pikachu
"I don't know." He says unsure
"It is something to consider, Pokemon can change once they evolve. Your Raichu may no longer be the same Pikachu that you knew." Bill says
Ash stares at Pikachu
"Pikachu I won't force you to evolve." Ash says and places the stone on the table near Pikachu, "You're my friend and I don't want you to do anything you're not sure of. If you want to evolve into a Raichu then you can grab the stone. If you want to remain a Pikachu then don't. It's your choice."
Pikachu stares at the Thunder Stone. Everyone watches in silence. Pikachu shakes his head
Pikachu!
"He said no." Meowth tells Jessie and James
"No? But why would he say that?" Jessie asks confused
"Are you sure Pikachu?" Ash asks
Pika Pika Pika Pikachu!
Meowth starts crying, "He's so brave."
"Why? What's he saying?" James asks
"Pikachu won't change. If he's gonna beat Raichu then he will do it just as he is. He's gonna fight in the name of all Pikachu."
James starts crying as well, "That's so beautiful!"
Ash takes Pikachu's paws, "We'll beat Lt. Surge together."
"Are you sure Ash?" Alex asks, "Maybe you shouldn't use Pikachu."
"It's a matter of pride now." Ash says, "We need to prove that you don't have to evolve your Pokemon to be strong."
Pika! Pikachu!
"Pikachu will defeat Raichu. He will defend his honour and Ash's." Meowth says
"Yeah Pikachu. Show that Raichu why you're so valuable." Jessie says
Ash hands the Thunder Stone back to Bill, "I won't be needing this."
Bill offers it back to Ash, "Keep it Ash. It may come in handy someday."
"So we went through the whole heartwarming thing and everything but we still haven't addressed the Copperajah in the room yet." Alex interrupts, "How are you and Pikachu going to beat that Raichu?"
Ash smirks, "Raichu's strong right, but I bet Pikachu's faster."
Ash and Pikachu exit the Pokemon Centre early the next morning
"Pikachu our lucky star is shining today!" Ash points into the sky.
Pika?
Misty suddenly shoves Ash's hand to the ground. She looks into the sky confused
"Where? I don't see it? How do you see a star in the middle of the day?" She asks confused
"I don't mean it's actually shining!" He says annoyed
Alex steps out of the Pokemon Centre, "I mean the Sun's a star so in a sense it is actually shining."
The five of them head down the street towards Vermilion Gym
"So it's only fair that I get to battle first since you went first in Cerulean." Alex says
"Fine fine you can go first, but I get to go first for the next gym." Ash says
"Maybe." Alex replies smugly
"You remind me of Gary sometimes you know." Ash says causing Alex to take a swing at him with his baseball bat
Suddenly three mysterious strangers,one really short,one a man with blue hair,and one a woman with long magenta hair, dressed in black uniforms with giant red Rs step infront of them. They are carrying a giant flag also branded with an R as well as paper fans. They also have hats and sunglasses on.
"Who are you guys?" Ash asks confused
Two strangers: To protect the world from devastation!
The short one whacks the two of them over the head
"IXNAY!" He yells
"We forgot!" The other two yell
"We're the challenger's cheerleaders and we're here to show our support for Pikachu and Ash!" The short one yells
"Hoora!" The other two yell
"I got my own cheerleaders? Cool" Ash says
"What about me?" Alex asks annoyed
"In honour of the great Pikachu's bravery we wish to offer up a cheer!" The short one yells
The short one starts waving his paper fans around, the blue haired one starts waving the flag around, and the magenta haired one starts doing somekind of weird dance and chanting barely eligible chants.
Ash,Misty,Brock and Pikachu just watch disturbed. Alex is sulking
(Why don't random people off the street cheer me on?)
"Hip hip Hooray!" They shout and then take off running
"That was really disturbing." Brock says
Misty starts waving goodbye, "Thanks for your support! Bye Team Rocket!"
"How did she know it was us?" Meowth yells in surprise
"Lucky guess." Jessie says
"You know they're not that bad." Alex admits
Ash chuckles amused, "Alright let's go win this badge!"
The group approach the gym, but right before they head inside a trainer suddenly rushes out and runs right past them
"I guess he wasn't so lucky." Alex says
"We can do this." Ash says confidently and they head inside
Two trainers approach them
"Hello. We've come to battle for the Thunder Badge." Ash says
The two trainers smirk and one looks behind him
"Hey boss more victims for the emergency room." The trainer says
Lt. Surge steps towards them. He is huge, towering over literally everyone else in the gym
"Which one?" Lt. Surge asks
"Uh him." Ash says and steps behind Alex
"Seriously?" Alex asks
"Hey show your stuff off buddy." Ash says
"Well then follow me to the battlefield baby." Surge says
"I see Joey wasn't exaggerating." Alex says annoyed as they head after Surge.
Lt. Surge and Alex are standing on opposite sides of the field. One of the trainers is acting as referee for the battle. Ash,Misty,Brock,Pikachu and Oddish are sitting on the stands watching
"Brock how come you didn't have a referee?" Ash asks
"Gym leaders are qualified to referee their own matches if a referee is not on hand." Brock explains
"This will be a two-on-two Pokemon battle! Standard gym rules apply!" The referee shouts
Lt. Surge puts his sunglasses on and smirks
"I won't need to put much effort in beating a baby like you. I choose Electabuzz!" Lt Surge tosses his pokeball

Alex takes out his pokedex and scans Electabuzz
Electabuzz the Electric Pokemon. An Electric type. When a storm arrives, gangs of this Pokémon compete with each other to scale heights that are likely to be stricken by lightning bolts. Some towns use Electabuzz in place of lightning rods. Electabuzz is the evolved form of Elekid and evolves into Electivire. This Electabuzz is Male
"I was expecting him to use Raichu." Ash admits
"He must be saving it." Misty says

Alex grabs his pokeball, "Go Paras!"
Paras! Paras!
"Goodcall from Alex. Electric types aren't very effective against Grass types." Brock says
"What do you know? Baby brought along a baby Pokemon." Surge says mockingly
Paras?
Paras looks around confused
"He's talking about you Paras." Alex says
Paras!
Paras starts shaking it's claws angrily
Paras! Paras!
"It's throwing a fit!" Lt. Surge starts laughing, "This is gonna be so easy!"
"Battle begin!" The referee yells
"Paras use Spore!" Alex yells and Paras starts releasing the white powder towards Electabuzz
"Oh no whatever will I do!" Surge shouts
Electabuzz starts becoming drowsy and falls asleep
"It's all over!" Surge whines
"Stop faking." Alex says annoyed
"Huh?" Ash asks confused. Surge chuckles
"You're smarter than you look baby. Electabuzz use Thunder Punch!"
Electabuzz immediately leaps forward, it's fist surrounded by electricity, and punches Paras
Paras!
Paras is sent flying across the battlefield and slams into the ground hard. It manages to get back to it's feet though
"What happened?" Ash asks confused,"I thought Electabuzz was asleep."
"It was a dirty trick." Misty says
"But Alex saw through it, though he still wasn't able to protect Paras." Brock says
"My Electabuzz has the ability Vital Spirit which prevents it from falling asleep in battle." Surge says confidently, "Your Paras won't be able to defeat it!"
"Paras has other attacks besides Spore." Alex says, Paras Stun Spore!"
Paras starts releasing orange powder towards Electabuzz
"Electabuzz use Protect!" Surge shouts
A gold and green barrier surrounds Electabuzz and the Stun Spore floats past harmlessly before dissipating
"Now Thunder Punch again!" Surge yells and Electabuzz rushes forward punching Paras
Paras!
Paras slams into the ground and struggles to stand. Alex grimaces
"There has to be something we can do." Alex mumbles,"Let's try offense. Paras use Bullet Seed!"
Paras spits a bunch of seeds out of it's mouth and towards Electabuzz
"Dodge and use Thunder Punch again!" Surge yells
Electabuzz dodges the attack and punches Paras
Paras!
Paras is knocked into the air and comes falling back down
"Another Thunder Punch!" Surge yells
Electabuzz prepares to punch Paras when it suddenly hunches over in pain
Buzz!
"Huh what's wrong Electabuzz!" Surge shouts confused. Alex smirks
"Paras Fury Cutter!"
Paras' claws starts glowing red and it slashes Electabuzz across it's face
Buzz!
Electabuzz falls backwards and Paras lands on the ground
"Now use Absorb!"
Paras fires a green orb which hits Electabuzz and absorbs some of it's energy before returning to Paras. Paras straightens up stronger than ever while Electabuzz is kneeling breathing heavily
"Electabuzz what's the matter?" Surge shouts at it
"Your Electabuzz is poisoned." Alex says
"Poisoned? When?" Surge shouts confused
"When you hit my Paras you triggered it's ability, Effect Spore." Alex smirks,"Now Paras finish it off with Bullet Seed!"
Paras fires the Bullet Seed pummeling Electabuzz into unconsciousness
"Electabuzz is unable to battle!" The referee raises a flag. Lt. Surge returns Electabuzz
"Fine you got some talent baby, but your tricks won't work on me a second time. Go Magneton!" Surge shouts
Magneton!
Alex scans Magneton
Magneton the Magnet Pokemon. An Electric/Steel type. This Pokémon is three Magnemite that have linked together. Magneton sends out powerful radio waves to study its surroundings. Magneton is the evolved form of Magnemite and evolves into Magnezone by use of a Thunder Stone, although there have been reports of evolutions without one. Magneton are Genderless
"That maybe a problem." Alex mumbles
"Alex maybe you should recall Paras!" Brock yells at him
(Paras doesn't really have any moves that can counter Magneton. I could try paralyzing or putting it to sleep, but if my attack backfires then Paras is down for.)
Alex raises his pokeball and returns Paras
"Is the baby scared for his Pokemon?" Surge asks mockingly
"No I'm just not a stupid musclehead like you." Alex replies
"Why you-"
Alex drones him out as he thinks about a battle strategy
(Eevee,Hypno and Beedrill won't be much help against that Magneton which means Charmander is my only option. Hopefully he can handle it) Alex tosses his pokeball
"Go Charmander!"
Char!
"A Charmander huh? I was wondering when the third of you squirts were gonna show up." Surge says, "It won't help you much though. Magneton use Thunderbolt!"
Magneton's magnets start glowing yellow and electricity is fired from them towards Charmander
"Charmander dodge and then use Smokescreen!" Alex yells
Charmander crouches down and as soon as the Thunderbolt gets close it leaps out of the way. It then breathes out smoke covering the whole arena
"Stop hiding you coward!" Surge yells
Magneton looks through the smoke for any sign of Charmander. It occasionally sees flicks of flame from the Lizard's tail
"Charmander use Flamethrower!" Alex yells
A burst of Flame shoots from the smoke hitting Magneton head on
Magneton!
The smoke clears revealing Charmander's location. Magneton is struggling to stay afloat
"I'm surprised it managed to take that hit." Alex admits
"Magneton use Lock-On incase it tries something like that again." Surge says
Magnetons' eyes glow red. From it's perspective a target has formed around Charmander
"Well no point in hiding this time. Charmander use Fire Fang!" Alex yells
Charmander's fangs are set aflame and it rushes at Magneton
Charmander!
"Magneton Thunderbolt!" Surge yells
Charmander leaps into the air just as Magneton fires the Thunderbolt hitting it head on
Char!
Charmander however, despite being in tremendous pain, still falls towards Magneton and bites it
Magneton!
Magneton faints and slams into the ground. Charmander lands next to it
Charmander!
"Magneton is unable to battle! The winner of the match is Alex Martin!" The referee announces
"Alright!" Ash cheers excitedly
"Way to go Alex!" Misty cheers
Oddish jumps around excited
Alex grins and high fives Charmander
"Way to go Charmander!" Alex says happily

Lt. Surge walks towards him. He takes out a Thunder Badge
"Congratulations Alex you earned this Thunder Badge." Surge says and hands the badge to Alex. The two shake hands and then Alex heads over to the others
"You're up." Alex says
"Finally. Let's do this Pikachu." Ash says
Pika!
Ash and Pikachu are facing off against Lt. Surge
"A Pikachu huh? That takes me back. Pichu was my first Pokemon ya know." Surge says
"Really? Pikachu's my first Pokemon." Ash says a bit surprised
Lt. Surge grabs a pokeball
"The Pikachu line is my favourite Pokemon species. Pichu are adorable, Pikachu are quick and cheeky, but Raichu, Raichu's the best of em all!" Surge yells and tosses his pokeball
Raichu!
"You ready Pikachu?" Ash asks
Pikachu nods and hops onto the battlefield
"Battle begin!" The referee yells
"Your Pikachu ain't gonna beat my Raichu. The line only taps into their true power once they're fully evolved." Surge says, "Raichu use Body Slam!"
"Pikachu dodge!" Ash yells
Pikachu leaps out of the way of Raichu's Body Slam
"You're wrong Surge! Pikachu's just as good as Raichu!" Ash yells,"Agility!"
Pikachu drops onto all fours and starts running quicker than before
"Raichu use Body Slam!"
Raichu tries to slam into Pikachu again but Pikachu easily dodges. It starts running around Raichu so fast that Raichu becomes dizzy
"Enough of this! Raichu use Thunderbolt!" Surge yells
Raichu fires a very powerful Thunderbolt...all over the place
"Aaah!" Misty yells as some electricity shoots past her
"Careful Raichu!" Surge ducks
Team Rocket is watching through a window above the gym
"Let's go Pikachu!" Jessie shouts
"Hey is something coming towards us?" James asks
A Thunderbolt bursts through the window hitting them
"Aaaaah!"
And sending them blasting off
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
Raichu stops it's attack and looks around at all the damage it did to the gym
Rai?
"You're gonna have to clean all this up!" Surge yells at the referee
"Me?" The referee asks horrified
"Pikachu use Quick Attack!" Ash yells
Pikachu speeds forward slamming into Raichu
Raichu!
Raichu is knocked to the ground and Pikachu lands ontop of it
"Now finish it off with Iron Tail!" Ash yells
Pikachu's tail glows metallic and it slams it down onto Raichu's head. It hits so hard that Raichu is driven into the ground.
"Raichu no!" Surge yells
Pikachu hops off of the fainted Raichu
"Raichu is unable to battle!" The referee yells and raises his flag
Lt. Surge returns Raichu
"I admit you've impressed me. You defeated my second most powerful Pokemon." Surge says
"Yeah I...wait 'second?'" Ash asks confused

"Raichu's not his strongest?" Misty asks shocked
"If Raichu was strong enough to take down so many trainers and it's not even Surge's strongest Pokemon, I worry about Ash's chances." Brock says
"He can pull through." Alex says
Lt. Surge grabs a Quick Ball
"A couple years back this Pokemon was causing all kinds of problems at the Power Plant, so I headed down and caught it. I don't use it too often but you've driven me to it!" Surge tosses the Quick Ball. As soon as it opens a massive amount of electricity is shot throughout the arena and the Pokemon forms in the middle
"No way!" Brock shouts stunned
"It can't be!" Misty shouts stunned
Ash pulls out his Pokedex and scans Surge's pokemon
Zapdos the Electric Pokemon. An Electric/Flying type. Zapdos is a legendary bird Pokémon that has the ability to control electricity. It usually lives in thunderclouds. The Pokémon gains power if it is stricken by lightning bolts. Zapdos has no known evolutions. Zapdos are Genderless
Ash stares up at Zapdos stunned. Pikachu looks up at it frightened
"I'll give you the first move Ketchum." Surge says
"You up for this Pikachu?" Ash asks
Pikachu nods
Pika!
"Alright then Pikachu use Quick Attack!" Ash yells
Pikachu speeds forward. He leaps as he runs which boosts him into the air and towards Zapdos
"Thunder Shock!" Surge yells
Zapdos unleashes multiple jolts of electricity out of it's body hitting Pikachu
Chuu!
Pikachu slams into the ground
Pi...
He faints
"Pikachu!" Ash yells shocked
"Pikachu is unable to battle!" The referee yells
"That was a Thunder Shock?" Alex asks in disbelief
"It was so powerful." Brock says stunned
"I think Ash might be in trouble." Misty says
Ash places Pikachu down next to him gently
"Thank you Pikachu you did great." Ash says
He turns back towards Zapdos
(Sandshrew should be immune to Zapdos' electric attacks, but it's flying typing will make this tough.) Ash turns his cap backwards and tosses his pokeball, "Go Sandshrew!"

Sandshrew's eyes widen when it sees Zapdos
"A Sandshrew huh? A good choice." Surge says, "Zapdos use Aerial Ace!"
Zapdos dives towards Sandshrew, white light surrounds it's wings.
"Sandshrew use Dig to avoid the attack!" Ash yells
Sandshrew digs underground avoiding Zapdos' attack. It then pops back out trying to hit Zapdos but the Legendary Bird just flies up into the air avoiding it
"Nice try but you'll have to be quicker than that!" Surge yells
"Alright Sandshrew use Poison Sting!" Ash yells
Sandshrew rolls into a ball and starts spinning. A bunch of pink coloured stingers fire out from it hitting Zapdos
"Zapdos pay it back with Hyper Beam!" Surge yells
Zapdos opens it's mouth and orange coloured energy forms in it's mouth
"Sandshrew look out!" Ash yells
Sandshrew tries to dig but isn't fast enough to avoid the Hyper Beam and is hit
Shrew!
Sandshrew is sent flying across the battlefield. It slams right near the edge of the field
"Careful Ash! If Sandshrew leaves the field you lose the battle by forfeit!" Misty yells
Sandshrew crawls back towards Zapdos
Sand...Shrew...
"Sandshrew are you ok?" Ash asks concerned
Sand...Shrew
"Zapdos finish this off with another Hyper Beam!" Surge yells
Zapdos flies closer to Sandshrew and fires the Hyper Beam
"Sandshrew no!" Ash yells
The Hyper Beam hits Sandshrew head on. The force of the attack is so strong that it creates a crater underneath Sandshrew
"It's over." Surge says
His eyes suddenly widen in shock as Sandshrew struggles back to it's feet
"How?" Surge asks shocked
"Sandshrew don't push yourself." Ash says concerned
Sand...Shrew
Sandshrew starts taking a few steps forward
"How is it still going?" Misty asks surprised
"It doesn't want to fail Ash." Brock says
Ash grabs his pokeball
"Return Sandshrew!" Ash yells
Sandshrew however resists
"Sandshrew it's not worth it!" Ash yells
Sand...Shrew!
Sandshrew starts glowing
"Sandshrew?" Ash asks confused
"It's evolving." Brock says amazed
"Talk about a lucky break." Alex says
The light fades revealing Sandslash standing in Sandshrew's place
Sandslash!
Ash pulls out his pokedex and scans Sandslash
Sandslash the Mouse Pokemon. A Ground type. Sandslash can roll up its body as if it were a ball covered with large spikes. In battle, this Pokémon will try to make the foe flinch by jabbing it with its spines. It then leaps at the stunned foe to tear wildly with its sharp claws. Sandslash is the evolved form of Sandshrew. This Sandslash is Male
Sandslash extends his claws. He is back to full health
"Alright! We can do this Sandslash!" Ash yells excited
"A fresh coat of paint ain't gonna change anything!" Surge yells, "Zapdos Hyper Beam again!"
Zapdos fires the Hyper Beam
"Sandslash Dig!" Ash yells and Sandslash burrows underground extremely quickly
"It's so much faster now!" Misty shouts
"Now Sandslash use Rollout!" Ash yells
Sandslash bursts from the ground and flies into the air slamming into Zapdos
"Impossible!" Surge yells out in shock
Sandslash uncurls and lands on Zapdos' back
"Shake it off Zapdos!" Surge yells and Zapdos starts trying to knock Sandslash off. Sandslash starts scratching Zapdos in the face with it's claws causing Zapdos to fly around uncontrollably
"Keep it up Sandslash!" Ash yells
"Zapdos look out!" Surge yells
Zapdos flies towards the wall. Sandslash leaps off right before Zapdos flies out of the battlefield and slams headfirst into the wall. Zapdos falls to the ground
"Zapdos has left the battlefield! The winner of the match is Ash Ketchum!" The referee yells
"Yeah!" Ash yells happily. He rushes towards Sandslash to hug him
"We did it Sandslash!"

Ash hugs Sandslash...
"Aaaah!" Ash yells and falls back, "I forgot about your spikes!"

Lt. Surge shakes Ash's hand
"Congratulations Ash. You earned this Thunder Badge." Surge says
"Thank you Surge." Ash says
Pikachu and Raichu shake hands as well
"Your Pikachu and Sandslash are very powerful Pokemon. I hope one day we can battle again." Surge says
"Definitely." Ash says
Ash,Alex,Misty,Brock and all their Pokemon are sitting at a park watching the sunset. Bulbasaur,Eevee,Onix and Geodude are sleeping. Butterfree,Pidgeotto,Beedrill and Zubat are racing each other. Pikachu and Squirtle are playing with Oddish. Ash's Charmander and Alex's Charmander are busy talking to each other. Goldeen,Staryu and Starmie are swimming around in a small pond happily, and Ash's Sandslash is showing off to Paras and Hypno.
"You were right Misty. This spot is beautiful." Brock says, "I can just imagine coming here with Officer Jenny or Nurse Joy and-"
"We don't need to hear about your daydreams Brock." Alex says. Brock rolls his eyes
"So are you proud of yourself Ash?" Misty asks
"What do you mean?" Ash asks confused
"You beat a Legendary Pokemon." Misty says impressed,"Not many Pokemon trainers can do that."
"Oh yeah, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without Sandslash." Ash glances over at Sandslash, "He really pulled through today."
"So what are we gonna do tomorrow?" Alex asks
"I thought we could pay a visit to Diglett's Cave before we head out." Brock says
"Yeah I want to catch a Diglett!" Ash yells excited
Coo-ki Coo-ki
"Huh?" Ash looks over and sees that a Krabby has wandered over to them
"Alright I'm gonna catch it!"
Andrew is facing a giant screen. Giovanni is on it with his Persian
"My agents have infiltrated the SS Anne and have begun handing out tickets." Andrew says
"Good. Stealing those trainers' Pokemon will be easy when they are trapped out at sea." Giovanni says
