Me: Alex restrain him
Alex grabs Ash and drags him out of the room
Me: I don't know how long he can hold him so we have to do this quickly
Misty: Chapter 12-Bye Bye Butterfree
The Pokegang are travelling along Route 6 to get to Saffron City. At the moment they have taken a break. Brock is feeding his Dugtrio
"This bowl is for you Jenny, and this one is for you Joy, and this one is yours Suzie." Brock places a bowl in front of each head
"Who's Suzie?" Alex asks
Brock stares up into the sky lovestruck, "My idol."
"Have you ever actually met her?" Alex asks
"Well no, but she's a very famous Pokemon Breeder and I've taken a lot of her advice to improve myself." Brock says seriously for a change
Ash and Misty are playing with Pikachu and Oddish
"So Ash do you know anything about the Saffron City gym leader?" Misty asks
"Doesn't he specialize in fighting types?" Ash asks
"No I heard that guy lost his gym status a few years ago." Misty says
"Huh. Well whoever it is I'm sure we can handle them right Pikachu!"
Pika!
Freee Freee
Everyone looks up at the noise and sees a bunch of Butterfree flying past
"Woah look at all the Butterfree." Misty says
"I wonder why there are so many." Ash says
"It must be their season of love." Brock says
"Season of love? What's that?" Alex asks
"The Season of Love is a certain time every year where Butterfree gather to find mates. They'll then travel across the sea to lay eggs." Brock says
"So cute." Misty says
Ash takes out the pokeball with Butterfree inside, "What about my Butterfree?"
"Well that's really up to you and Butterfree," Brock says, "Butterfree might not want to go and even if he did you don't have to let him."
"That would be cruel though." Alex says
"I don't want to force my Pokemon to do something they don't want to do." Ash says thoughtfully
The group have rented out a hot air balloon and are following the Butterfree
"It's a good thing we could get this balloon huh." Misty says
"Assuming the Butterfree gather here often it's probably a good business spot." Alex says
"Look!" Ash points at some other balloons around them, "There's so many."
"They must all be Butterfree trainers." Brock says
Some trainers start releasing their Butterfree who join up with the wild flock. The Butterfree start pairing off
"They must be picking partners." Misty says
"Alright Ash it's your turn." Brock says
"Right. I choose you Butterfree!" Ash yells
Free Freeee
Butterfree looks around confused
Free?
"Go on Butterfree." Ash says encouragingly
Free!
Butterfree flies over to join the others. He stops near a few Butterfree who ignore him

Butterfree starts flying back towards the group
"Why are they rejecting him?" Ash asks upset
"Maybe Butterfree isn't their type." Alex suggests
"My Butterfree is amazing!" Ash shouts upset, "You all have terrible taste!"
"Calm down Ash. There's nothing wrong with Butterfree, he probably just has a different pattern that those ones weren't interested in. It's all natural." Brock says
"Pattern smattern! My Butterfree is better than all other Butterfree!"
Butterfree stops next to them
Free?
Brock notices a Beauty about his age releasing her Butterfree.
"You go on and find yourself a nice mate." She says
Brock stares at her lovestruck, "She is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen."
"Oh no." Misty groans
"What about the Mai-" Ash and Misty cover Alex's mouth
"Listen up Butterfree you see that Butterfree over there! Pick that one!" Brock yells
Free?
"Don't you understand when two Butterfree meet and fall in love their trainers will meet and they can fall in love too!" Brock yells. Misty suddenly smacks him over the head with Alex's baseball bat
"Don't interfere in Pokemon love!" Misty yells
"You're not even Butterfree's trainer anyway." Alex says
Butterfree looks around and notices a Pink Butterfree. He suddenly gets the same look in his eyes that Brock always gets

"Is that a Pink Butterfree?" Alex asks confused
"Wow that's so cool!" Ash shouts
"It's really pretty." Misty says
Butterfree flies over to her
"I guess Butterfree agrees with you." Brock says rubbing his head
Butterfree starts dancing around the Pink Butterfree
"Look at that. Butterfree's trying to impress her by dancing." Ash says
"Sort of. That's Butterfree's courtship dance. It's basically his way of asking her to be his Butterfree." Brock says
The Pink Butterfree ignores him
"It doesn't look like she reciprocates." Alex says
The Pink Butterfree flies up into the air to try and get away from Ash's Butterfree. Ash's Butterfree flies after her and continues dancing when she suddenly slaps him
"Aaah!" Everyone yells shocked.
Butterfree starts tearing up and suddenly flies away
"Butterfree come back!" Ash yells
"That was harsh." Alex says
"Poor Butterfree." Misty says sadly
"The pains of heartache. I know it too well." Brock says sadly
Pika...
The group find Butterfree crying near a tree
"Butterfree don't cry." Ash tries to comfort him, "I'm sure there's another Butterfree out there for you."
"I don't think he wants another Butterfree." Alex says
"I understand your pain Butterfree." Brock suddenly starts crying, "I could write a book about the secrets of love and heartache."
"I guess that would be your autobiography." Misty says causing Brock to slump over depressed
"Great. I just got him out of a funk and you put him back in." Alex says annoyed
"Sorry."
"There must be something we can do to show that Butterfree how great you are." Ash says
Free...
"I know! You're a great battler, we'll just show off how powerful your moves are!"
Butterfree perks up excitedly
Free!
"Yeah! We'll show her Butterfree!"
"Hang on." Brock pulls out a yellow scarf and ties it around Butterfree's neck, "There. A new look is just what you need."
The group have taken flight again. By this point all the other trainers have already left except for one other balloon.
"Go on Butterfree." Ash says and Butterfree flies back over to the Pink Butterfree who does not look happy to see him again
"She's kinda mean isn't she." Alex says
"We'll show her. Alright Butterfree use Gust!" Ash yells
Butterfree starts flapping his wings quickly causing some strong wind to blow past
"Now show how strong your Tackle is!" Ash yells
Butterfree starts flying around the Pink Butterfree pretending to tackle someone
"Now for the best stuff. Butterfree use Psybeam!" Ash yells
Butterfree fires a beam of pink energy...which hits the other hot air balloon and ripping a hole through it
"Aaaah!" The trainer yells as the balloon falls out of the sky. Everyone stares at it horrified
"We will never speak of this again." Alex says
"Agreed."

And they turn back to focusing on Butterfree
"I don't think it's working." Brock says
"What do we have to do!" Ash yells frustrated
Their thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a helicopter
"You guys hear that too right? I'm not going insane?" Alex asks
A black coloured helicopter with a giant R painted on the side gets closer. A mega horn pops out on the top
Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
James: And make it double!
Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James: To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie: Jessie!
James: James!
Jessie: Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!
James: Surrender now or prepare to fight!
Meowth: Meowth! That's right!
"Oh great it's them again." Misty says annoyed
The bottom of the helicopter opens and a giant pokeball is lowered out of it
"What are they doing?" Ash asks
The pokeball suddenly opens and fires a giant net capturing all the Butterfree except Ash's
"Oh no!" Ash yells
"They're gonna disrupt the Butterfree's mating rituals!" Brock yells
"They're interfering with love!" Misty yells
"Will you guys stopping yelling? They're in a helicopter, they can't hear you." Alex says blocking his ears
"Butterfree you have to stop them!" Ash yells at Butterfree
Butterfree flies towards the helicopter and starts slamming into it. He's doing literally nothing
"It's not working!" Ash yells
Team Rocket's helicopter flies away. Butterfree chases after them
"We have to catch up to them! Brock make this go faster!"
"On it!" Brock increases the flame causing the balloon to move faster
They however soon lose the helicopter and Butterfree
"We lost them..." Ash slumps over depressed
Pikapi...
"We'll find them Ash. Don't worry." Alex says
Free! Free!
Ash looks up and sees Butterfree flying towards them
"Butterfree? Did you find them?" Ash asks
Butterfree nods
"Good. Alright Butterfree take us to Team Rocket."
Team Rocket have landed outside the warehouse. All the captured Butterfree have been taken inside and placed inside a giant wooden cage
"Look at all these Butterfree." Meowth says excitedly
"We'll be promoted for this for sure!" James says excitedly
"And look at that one there. That's a rare Butterfree!" Jessie says pointing at the Pink Butterfree
The windows to the warehouse are suddenly broken
"What's going on!" James yells
"Someone's busting in!" Meowth yells
"Who is it! Who's there!" Jessie yells
Ash: Prepare for trouble!
Misty: And you can make that triple!
Brock: To protect the world from devastation!
Ash and Misty: To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie: This was just...
James: Too good...
Meowth: To last.
Ash: You got that right.
Pikachu: Pika!
Misty: We're defending the beauty of truth and love!
Brock: Let's do it!
Meowth: We gotta stop them!
"Alright use...wait a minute where's the fourth twerp?." Jessie asks
"Yeah. Last time we didn't see him, he was-" James starts saying before the two suddenly spin around and see Alex sneaking towards the captured Butterfree
"Oh hi guys." Alex waves awkwardly
"Ekans Poison Sting!" Jessie tosses her pokeball
Ekannssss!
Alex is hit by the Poison Sting and sent slamming into the wall
"Alex no!" Ash yells
"It won't be that easy twerps!" Jessie yells
"Yeah our scheme actually worked for a change!" James yells
"And we won't let you screw that up!" Meowth yells
"Go Koffing!"
Koffing!
"Go Dugtrio!" Brock yells
Trio Trio
"Go my steady!" Misty yells
Hoo!
Butterfree flies past and goes for the cage
"No way! Koffing use-" James starts giving instructions
"Pikachu Thunderbolt!" Ash yells
Pikachu fires a Thunderbolt but Koffing dodges
"Huh?"
"Ha not this time! Koffing Sludge!"
Koffing fires Sludge hitting Pikachu and sending him slamming into Ash
"Ouch!"
Pikachu lets out a Thundershock in frustration
"Aaaaah!"
"Ash no!" Misty and Brock yell
"I'm...tagging out..." Ash faints
"Now it's two-on-two. Totally fair." Jessie says
Butterfree in the meantime has started trying to break through the net
"Ekans use Poison Sting!" James yells
"Dugtrio Dig!" Brock yells
Dugtrio dives underground dodging the Poison Sting. They then burst from the ground slamming into Ekans
"Koffing Sludge!" James yells
"Starmie use Psychic!" Misty yells
Koffing fires the Sludge towards Dugtrio but a pink glow suddenly stops it in midair
"Uh oh." James says before the Sludge hits him in the face, "I'm blind!"
Butterfree continues slamming into the cage. The Pink Butterfree stares at him
Free! Free!
"Let Meowth handle this!" Meowth leaps towards Starmie and scratches it
Hoo!
"Starmie Rapid Spin!" Misty yells
Starmie starts spinning and knocks Meowth back
"Go Seaking!" Jessie yells
Seaking
Seaking flops on the floor uselessly
"Oh right I forgot. Seaking return." Jessie says embarrassed
Butterfree slams into the net really hard causing it to break. All the Butterfree start flying away
"No they're getting away!" Jessie yells
Brock quickly rushes over and opens the door to the warehouse, "Be free!"
The Butterfree fly out of the warehouse towards freedom
"We need to stop them!" James yells and Team Rocket run off
Butterfree pants. Ash gets back to his feet and rushes over to it
"Butterfree are you alright?" Ash asks concerned
Free...
The Pink Butterfree flies over to them
Free Freee
James suddenly rushes at her with a bug catching net, "I got one!"
Ash's Butterfree Tackles James knocking him away
Free!
The Pink Butterfree starts blushing
"James stop goofing off!" Jessie yells
James rushes over to them and they prepare to take off in the helicopter
"If we hurry we could still catch them!" Meowth yells
"Not so fast! Dugtrio use Earthquake!" Brock yells
Dugtrio dives underground. The ground underneath the helicopter suddenly starts shaking violently
"Abandon ship!" Meowth yells and Team Rocket dive out of the helicopter. The ground rips apart swallowing the helicopter
"Do you have any idea how much that cost!" Jessie yells angrily
"Alright Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash yells
Pi...
"Oh no!" Team Rocket yells
Ka...
"It's gonna shock us!"
Chuuuuuuuuu!
The Thunderbolt hits Team Rocket causing them to scream and blast off
"We're blasting off again!"
Alex gets to his feet
"Yay we did it. Go team." He says dizzily before falling over again
Freee
"Hey Ash look over there." Misty points towards the Butterfree
The Pink Butterfree is now performing the courtship dance for Ash's Butterfree
"I guess Butterfree managed to win her over after all." Brock says
The group are gathered on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The sun has started to set. All the Butterfree have started leaving except Ash's and the Pink Butterfree
"I guess you have to leave now." Ash says sadly
"They have to cross the ocean to start their new family." Brock says
"I'll miss you Butterfree." Misty says sadly
Ash looks down at the ground. Alex places his hand on Ash's shoulder, "It's time Ash."
I'll say goodbye." Ash replies sadly.
He walks over to the two Butterfree and gets down on his knee to be eye level with them. He looks over at the Pink Butterfree, "This is a great Butterfree so take care of him for me."
The Pink Butterfree nods
"Your babies are gonna be beautiful." Misty says
Pikachu hugs Butterfree goodbye. The mouse is tearing up
Pika Pika(I'll gonna miss ya buddy)
Freee(I'll miss you too Pikachu)
Pidgeotto suddenly pops out of it's pokeball
"Pidgeotto? What are you doing?" Ash asks confused
Pidgeotto flies over to Butterfree. The two stare directly into each other's eyes

Pidgeotto offers his wing to Butterfree and Butterfree shakes it
"Pidgeotto's known Butterfree much longer than the other Pokemon. I guess it felt like it had to personally see him off." Alex says
The Pink Butterfree takes flight. Butterfree looks back at Ash
"It's alright Butterfree. I'm sure we'll see each other again...one day."
Butterfree starts tearing up. Ash stands up, "Goodbye Butterfree."
Butterfree takes flight and heads over to the Pink Butterfree. Ash continues staring at the ground while everyone else waves goodbye to Butterfree
"Bye bye Butterfree!" Misty yells
"Good luck to both of you!" Brock yells
"We'll miss you Butterfree!" Alex yells
Pikachu!
Pidgeo!
The two Butterfree start flying away. Ash starts thinking about all the times they had together. He starts tearing up
"Butterfree..." He says softly
"Hey Ash Butterfree's almost out of sight." Misty says
Ash looks up, "Take care Butterfree!"
Butterfree, who is also crying, glances back at Ash
"Goodbye Butterfree! I'll miss you! And thank you for everything!"
Free!
And the two Butterfree fly off into the sunset. Ash smiles sadly, "Be happy old friend."
Brock places his hand on Ash's shoulder, "You know Ash you raised Butterfree to have a lot of courage. And I think you just showed you have a lot of courage too."
"Thanks Brock."
The group watch as the Butterfree flock disappear

Me: And there we go. Honestly I didn't expect this chapter to be as upsetting as it is to me. But honestly Butterfree unintentionally ended up getting a lot more focus than Ash's other Pokemon besides Pikachu so having him leave is really quite sad. And yeah this chapter ended up much shorter than the last couple but hopefully the next one makes up for it. If everything goes to plan that one should be much longer because we're tackling Sabrina. Stay tuned. Oh and yeah the trainer had a Fearow so he's fine.
