Alex: Ghost from the Past
The Pokegang have returned to Lavender Town one day before the tournament. They enter the Pokemon Centre
"I can't wait for tomorrow. Haunter and I are gonna dominate!" Ash exclaims excitedly
Haunter cackles
"Hey look over there." Alex points at the front desk where Nurse Joy is handing a trainer his pokeballs
"It's Damien!" Ash shouts surprised
Damien looks up at the sound of his name. He turns around and sees the group
"Oh it's you guys." Damien heads over to them. He notices Brock, "I don't think we've met. I'm Damien."
"Brock." The two shake hands
"So Damien are you here for the Ghost tournament too?" Ash asks
"Hmm oh no I just happened to be passing through on my way to Saffron City." Damien says
"Interesting. We just came from Saffron." Alex says
"You did. What was the gym leader like?" Damien asks curiously, "I know she uses Psychic types but that's it."
"She's tough. But I managed to beat her." Ash shows off his badges proudly.
"Oh you got a Thunder Badge too huh." Damien comments
" 'Too?' Did you challenge Lt. Surge?" Ash asks
"Yeah after Porta Vista I headed down to Vermilion. My Piloswine was able to sweep his team and then I headed to Lavender Town afterwards." Damien says
Ash's eyes widen in shock, "It was that easy?"
"Yeah he's not that tough. I'm sure it was a cakewalk for you as well." Damien replies
"Uh yeah it was super easy. Barely broke a sweat." Ash replies. The rest of his friends just shake their heads
"Well it was nice catching up but I need to get going." Damien prepares to leave when the doors to the Pokemon Centre open. Damien's eyes widen as a blonde haired trainer dressed predominantly in black and purple walks in. He is wearing a purple headband which keeps his hair out of his eyes as well as a purple scarf. He notices Damien and grins
"Damien what a surprise." He says
"Uh yeah nice to see you again Morty." Damien shakes Morty's hand, "Are you here for the tournament?"
"Originally no. I was coming to check out The Pokemon Tower when I head about the tournament along the way, so I decided why not enter?" Morty replies, "How about you?"
"Oh yeah I'm entering." Damien replies causing the Pokegang to stare at him surprised
"Well then I look forward to having a rematch against you." Morty heads over to Nurse Joy. Damien watches him
"Who is that Damien?" Misty asks
"His name is Morty. He's a gym leader from the Johto region who specializes in Ghost type Pokemon, and also an old rival of mine." Damien replies
"Wow. He must be tough." Ash says
"Tougher than me anyhow. I've only ever beat him once."
Ash grins, "Well I'm gonna beat him."
The next day the tournament has begun. Only eight trainers were entering, among them Ash, Damien and Morty. Alex, Brock and Misty are sitting amongst the crowd
"I bet the Pokemon must be having fun in the room alone." Misty says
"I just hope they don't get up to too much trouble." Alex replies
Morty easily defeats his opponent's Gastly using his own Haunter. It's now Damien's turn to battle. Ash watches intently
(I wonder what Ghost Pokemon Damien owns?)
Damien's opponent, an older woman named Doris, sends out her Gengar. Damien pulls out a Dusk Ball and tosses it
"Go Sableye!"
Sableye!
"What's that?" Ash asks surprised. He pulls out his Pokedex and scans it
Sableye the Darkness Pokemon. A Dark/Ghost type. Sableye lead quiet lives deep inside caverns. They are feared, however, because these Pokémon are thought to steal the spirits of people when their eyes burn with a sinister glow in the darkness. Sableye do not have any known evolutions. This Sableye is Male
Meanwhile at the Pokemon Centre all of Ash's, Alex's, Misty's, and Brock's Pokemon-except Haunter, Gyarados, Onix and Dugtrio-are out and about. They are currently trying to unlock their room's door
Squirtle Squirtle(We should just break the door down)
Char Charmander Char?(Are you crazy? How are we gonna explain that?)
Squirtle Squirtle(Charmander your friend's being a downer again)
Ash's Charmander leads Alex's Charmander away from Squirtle
Charmander Char(We can just blame it on him if we get in trouble)
Goldeen Goldeen(Do what you want but I'm not taking the blame for this. I can't even get off the bed.)
Horsea Horsea(I'm telling you this is a bad idea)
Tentacool!(Stay out of this Horsea!)
Horsea!(Alright I'm sorry!)
Bulbasaur gets in Tentacool's face
Bulbasaur! Bulba Bulba!(Don't push Horsea around!)
Tentacool Tentacool?(Or what?)
Bulbasaur gets into a fighting position
Saur! Bulbasaur!(You answer to me!)
Sandslash gets between them
Slash Sandslash?(Dudes there's no need for fighting. Let's just chill and enjoy life huh?)
Tentacool(Don't talk to me weirdo)
Tentacool flops away from them
Sandslash(Harsh man)
Beedrill is trying to pick the lock with it's pincer
Buzz Buzz(No good. It's too big)
Machop! Machop!(Let me try brother. I'll get that door down!)
Machop prepares to charge the door when Pikachu hops in the way
Pika Pika Chu(Weren't you listening? We're not supposed to break the door remember)
Machop!(That doesn't work for me brother! The Machop Man does what he likes!)
Hypno starts waving his pendant in Machop's face
Hyp...no Hyp...no(Take a nap my friend.)
Ma...chop(A nap sounds...good)
Machop falls asleep
Vaporeon is lying on Alex's bed trying to get some sleep. She groans
Vaporeon? Vaporeon!(Why must I lay with the commoners? Oh my life is horrible!)
Paras Paras(Does anyone have any food? I'm hungry)
Geodude Geodude?(You ate it all remember?)
Paras Paras(But I'm still hungry)
Pika Pika(That's why we're trying to get the door open.)
Paras suddenly charges at the door and slams headfirst into it
Paras!
She falls backwards
Paras(Not my best idea)
And passes out
Oddish giggles
Ash,Damien and Morty have all advanced to the semi-final rounds. Ash is now battling his opponent: Channeler Hope and her Phantump
"Alright Phantump use Seed Bomb!" Hope yells
Phantump's tiny little mouth opens as wide as possible and it starts spitting out tiny little seeds that are glowing green. The seeds fire towards Haunter
"Haunter look out!" Ash yells
Haunter suddenly opens it's mouth wide and swallows all the seeds
"Ah!" Ash, Alex, Misty and Brock yell
Channeler Hope just stares at Haunter stunned
"Huh...it seems like Haunter was hungry." The Announcer says just as confused as everyone else
The seeds explode inside Haunter's stomach causing Haunter to enlarge like a balloon. Haunter cackles and pulls a pin out of it's mouth
"Where did you get that Haunter?" Ash asks confused
Haunter pokes itself with the pin. A bunch of air blows out from it causing Haunter to deflate to it's original size. Haunter continues cackling
"That Haunter is something else." Alex mutters
Everyone else is too confused to say anything
Purple energy suddenly surrounds Phantump
"Phantump what's going on?" Hope asks confused
Phantump screams in pain
"Phantump!"
The purple energy fades. Haunter continues cackling
Morty is watching intrigued
"Ok Haunter if you're done playing use Night Shade!" Ash yells
Haunter fires the blackish purple beam at Phantump who manages to dodge. The same purple energy suddenly surrounds it again though causing it to scream
"Phantump what's going on!" Hope yells concerned
"I have no clue what is happening but it seems Phantump is getting hurt!" The Announcer yells
"That Haunter is much smarter than it seems." Morty comments
"What do you mean Morty?" Damien asks
"When it was pretending to pop itself with that pin it wasn't just goofing off. It used the time to inflict damage on itself in order to place a Curse on Phantump." Morty replies
"Oh I get it. It distracts it's opponents by being goofy in order to lower their guard." Damien nods his head
"Haunter use Shadow Claw!" Ash yells
Some claws made out of blackish purple energy grow from Haunter's hand and it slashes Phantump across the face. Phantump falls to the ground fainted
"Phantump is unable to battle! The winner of the match is Ash Ketchum!" The Announcer shouts
"I noticed you were speaking to that kid yesterday. Do you know him?" Morty asks
"We battled a little while ago. He's a rookie but he has skill." Damien replies
"May the next two trainers please step up to the battlefield!" The Announcer yells
Morty and Damien shake hands and get into their respective corners. Damien tosses his Dusk Ball and Sableye pops out. Morty grabs a pokeball and throws it
"Go Misdreavus!" Morty yells

"Ooh that cool." Ash scans it
Misdreavus the Screech Pokemon. A Ghost type. It loves to watch people it's scared. It frightens them by screaming loudly or appearing suddenly. Misdreavus evolves into Mismagius through use of a Dusk Stone. This Misdreavus is Female
"It's so cute!" Misty squeals
"You're so girlish sometimes." Alex mutters causing Misty to grab him by his ear
"What's that supposed to mean!"
"That's a new one." Damien says surprised
"Oh this one. I caught her a few months back." Morty answers
"Huh. Alright means nothing I'm still gonna beat you. Sableye use Dark Pulse!"
Sableye stretches out it's arms and opens it's hands wide. A beam of purple energy with black circles inside of it fire towards Misdreavus who flies upwards to avoid it. Misdreavus growls at Sableye
"Misdreavus use Dazzling Gleam!" Morty yells
Damien's eyes widen when he hears the name of the move
A rainbow-coloured shine surrounds Misdreavus' body
"Sableye Disable!"
Sableye's eyes start glowing and a red aura surrounds Misdreavus. The Screech Pokemon's attack stops before it could even fire. Damien lets out a relieved sigh
"Alright Sableye use Shadow Ball!"
Sableye forms the ball in it's hand and tosses it at Misdreavus hitting the Pokemon
Misdreavus!
"Payback!" Morty yells
Red energy bursts out from Misdreavus hitting Sableye
Sable!
"Alright try Dazzling Gleam again!"
The familiar shine surrounds Misdreavus' body before exploding. The energy engulfs Sableye. Morty grins, but then grin slips off his face when he notices Sableye fading away
"What?"
Sableye appears behind Misdreavus, it's fist is surrounded by black energy and it punches Misdreavus
Misdreavus!
Misdreavus slams into the ground. Morty looks at Damien who smirks
"You used Substitute"
"Yep. Sableye finish it off with Dark Pulse!" Damien yells
Sableye fires the Dark Pulse and hits Misdreavus. Despite taking lots of damage Misdreavus manages to float back up into the air
"It's still standing? Impressive." Damien admits
"Pain Split!" Morty yells
Misdreavus suddenly slams into Sableye. A red energy surrounds both Pokemon
"Dammit." Damien mutters annoyed
When Misdreavus pulls away she seems healthier while Sableye seems weaker
"Now we're on even footing Damien." Morty says
"Then we'll finish this with one move. Use Night Shade!" Damien yells
"Misdreavus use Night Shade too!" Morty yells
Both Pokemon fire Night Shade which collide in the middle. They start pushing against each other
"The Pokemon are in a battle for dominance! Whichever Pokemon manages to overpower the other and land their attack will surely be declared the winner!" The Announcer screams into his microphone
Misdreavus' Night Shade pushes Sableye's back. It strikes Sableye head on
Sableye!
Sableye's eyes close and it slams into the ground
"Sableye is unable to battle! The winner of the match is Morty!"
The crowd cheers. Damien rubs his hand along his chin before returning Sableye
"Return Misdreavus." Morty says before heading over to Damien. The two shake hands
"I'm 3-1 now." Morty says
"I'll overtake you eventually." Damien replies
"We are now onto the final round of the Lavender Town Ghost Tournament! Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town will take on Morty from Ecruteak City! We will take a five minute break before continuing!" The Announcer announces
Damien walks over to Ash
"So are you heading to Saffron?" Ash asks
"Hmm no. I'm going to put off challenging Sabrina for now. I think I'll head out to Cerulean next." Damien replies
Damien starts walking away but stops, "Good luck." Then he carries on
Charmander is standing on Machop's shoulders and has his claw in the keyhole
Char Char(Almost got it)
They hear a click
Charmander!(I got it!)
Machop drops Charmander and knocks the door open
Machop Machop!(Here comes the Machop Man!)
Most of the Pokemon rush out of the room
Paras! Paras!(Raid the pantry!)
Sandslash waves goodbye
Sandslash Sandslash(See ya later bros and broettes!)
Vaporeon rolls her eyes
Vaporeon(Peasants)
"It is now time for the final round!" The Announcer yells
"Go Misdreavus!" Morty tosses his pokeball
Misdreavus
"Go Haunter!" Ash points ahead and Haunter appears on the battlefield
Haunter Haunter
"The west trainer has chosen a Haunter! The east trainer has chosen a Misdreavus! Battle begin!" The Referee yells
The two Pokemon float around each other. Haunter is up to it's usual tricks while Misdreavus just watches annoyed
"Misdreavus use Shadow Ball!" Morty yells
A Shadow Ball forms near Misdreavus' mouth and she rears her head back to throw it.
"Haunter dodge!" Ash yells
Haunter however just cackles and watches as the Shadow Ball flies towards it
"Haunter!"
Haunter Haunter
Just before the Shadow Ball hits Haunter, the Gas Pokemon absorbs it's own eye and the Ball flies into the empty socket. Everyone gasps horrified
"Well that's something." The Announcer tries not to vomit
"There is something seriously wrong with that Haunter." Alex says
Misdreavus glares at Haunter angrily
Haunter Haunter
Haunter is then knocked back by the Shadow Ball
Haunter!
"Haunter no!" Ash yells
Haunter rights itself and brings it's eye back. It cackles
(Does this thing just not feel pain or something?) Morty asks genuinely confused
"Haunter use Night Shade!" Ash yells
Haunter fires the familiar attack. Misdreavus zips around the battlefield avoiding the attack and then disappears
"It's gone! Keep an eye out Haunter." Ash says concerned
Morty watches the battlefield intently. It's almost like he can see where Misdreavus is
Misdreavus suddenly appears right in front of Haunter. Her face is monstrously twisted causing Ash to fall back frightened. Haunter however just starts laughing
Haunter Haunter
Misdreavus?
"It found it funny?" Morty mutters confused
Haunter points to itself and covers it's face with it's tongue. It suddenly pulls it's tongue back revealing that it's eyes have gone red and it's teeth have extended.
Misdreavus!
Haunter licks Misdreavus causing the Pokemon to drop to the ground paralyzed
"And Haunter manages to surprise Misdreavus with a Lick attack!" The Announcer yells
"Yeah way to go Haunter!" Ash cheers
"You ok Misdreavus?" Morty asks
Misdreavus manages to float back into the air
Misdreavus
"Alright then. It's time to finish this off. Use Psybeam!" Morty yells and Misdreavus fires the beam at Haunter
"Careful Haunter!" Ash yells
Haunter dodges the attack. Misdreavus continues firing Psybeams at him
"I don't think Haunter can keep this up." Misty says worried
Ash starts scanning his Pokedex for Haunter's moves
"Come on come on. Here! Haunter use Reflect Type!" Ash yells
Haunter and Misdreavus both starts glowing. The Psybeam hits Haunter but he shrugs it off easily
"What a stroke of luck! Just in the nick of time Ash's Haunter was able to convert itself from a Ghost/Poison type to a pure Ghost type!"
Morty nods his head impressed
Both Pokemon float around exhausted
"I don't think either Pokemon can keep this up much longer!" The Announcer shouts
"Hey Ash! How about we make this interesting?" Morty asks
"What do you mean?" Ash asks confused
"Misdreavus use Perish Song!" Morty yells
Misdreavus starts singing a terrible noise. Everyone but Morty covers their ears
"It's awful!" Misty yells
"This is bad!" Brock yells
Black coloured sound waves materialize out of Misdreavus' mouth and both her and Haunter are covered by a crimson aura
"What's happening!" Ash yells
Missssdreavusssssss
Misdreavus stops singing
"Now Ash check up that move on your Pokedex." Morty advises Ash who nods and does so
Perish Song-a Normal type move. A malevolent melody that causes all Pokemon that hear it to faint in quick order.
"What!" Ash yells shocked. Haunter is still trying to get the sound of the song out of it's head
"Yes Ash. In a few more minutes both Haunter and Misdreavus will faint causing this battle to end in a tie." Morty says
"Is that true Brock?" Misty asks
"I'm afraid so." Brock replies
"So let's see if you can beat Misdreavus before it's too late. Interesting right?"
Ash smirks, "Alright you heard him Haunter! Use Hypnosis!"
Haunter's eyes glow red. Misdreavus stares into them transfixed
"Snap out of it Misdreavus!" Morty yells
Misdreavus shakes her head and disappears
"Alright Haunter we gotta be ready." Ash says
Haunter looks around. He suddenly spins and sucker punches Misdreavus who materializes in front of him
"Misdreavus!"
Misdreavus falls to the ground and Haunter pins her to the ground. His eyes start glowing again. Misdreavus starts dozing off
"Fight it Misdreavus!" Morty yells
Misdreavus tries to keep her eyes open but she can't. She falls asleep
"And Misdreavus has fallen asleep! However Haunter doesn't have much time left!" The Announcer yells
"We just need one more move! Haunter use Dream Eater!" Ash yells
"No!" Morty yells
A shadowy version of Haunter emerges from the Gas Pokemon and flies into Misdreavus. She starts thrashing around in her sleep and pinkish energy flies out of her and into Haunter
Haunter Haunter!
Misdreavus stops moving. Haunter floats away from her
"Misdreavus is unable to battle! The winner of the match is Ash Ketchum!"
The crowd cheers
"Woohoo!" Misty yells
"Return Misdreavus."
"Yeah we did Haunter! We won!" Ash jumps into the air excitedly. Haunter flies over to him and the two hug
"You're the greatest Haunter."
The Announcer heads over to them. He offers Ash a purple coloured badge
"Congratulations Ash. I hereby present to you the Ghost badge."
Ash takes it and strikes his pose, "I won the Ghost badge!"
Morty walks over clapping, "You did good Ash."
The two shake hands
"Thanks Morty."
"If you're ever travelling through Johto stop at Ecruteak City. I'd love to have a rematch."
"Help!" They hear Nurse Joy yelling. She rushes out of the Pokemon Centre, "The Pokemon have gone crazy!"
Ash, Morty and a couple others rush into the Pokemon Centre only to see it's a mess. Bulbasaur and Tentacool are beating each other up. Ash's Charmander is running around panicking because it has a bucket over it's head while Alex's Charmander is trying to get it off. Squirtle, Oddish and Pikachu are making off with a bunch of food while Machop is doing push ups off the front desk
"Pikachu!" Ash yells shocked causing Pikachu to drop the food in fright
Pikapi! Pika Pika!(Ash! This isn't what is looks like!)
Ash, Misty, Alex and Brock have left Lavender Town. Pikachu is riding along Ash's shoulder, Oddish is being carried in Misty's arms, and Haunter is floating around them
"I don't think we can ever show our faces there again." Misty says embarrassed
"What were you thinking Pikachu?" Ash asks annoyed
Pika Pika Pikachu(Hey it's your fault for not giving us enough food)
Oddish Oddish(Technically it's Paras' fault for eating all the food)
Haunter Haunter(I personally think it's hilarious)
"So where are we headed next?" Alex asks
"Well the next gym is in Celadon City, so we have to head west from Saffron to get there." Brock says
"We've just been going back and forth between Lavender Town and Saffron City for the past few days." Misty moans
"At least it's the last time. Besides we need to stop at their Pokemon Centre anyhow considering events." Alex says glancing at Pikachu

Me: And there we go. Alright I'll admit the Pokemon scenes where mainly added in to boost the chapter's length since it's not all that long, but I also wanted to give the Pokemon a little bit of focus since I haven't really shown a lot of them interacting yet. So we're finally done with Saffron City/Lavender Town and are moving on to Celadon. Although we have one stop before we get there
