Ash: Primeape Goes Bananas
The Pokegang have been travelling along Route 7 in order to get to Celadon City. Right now however they have stopped for lunch. Brock is busy making food while Alex and Misty are playing with Pikachu and Oddish. Ash is sitting by himself staring at the ground, deep in thought.
"What's wrong Ash? You've barely said a word since we left Saffron." Misty asks Ash concerned
"Well..." Ash begins his story
Flashback
Ash is sitting in front of the video phone. He has just called Professor Oak
"Hey Professor!" Ash says excitedly
"Oh hello Ash. It's been awhile since I heard from you." Oak answers
"I just wanted to let you know that I got my fourth gym badge!" Ash shows off his badges proudly
"Well done Ash. You're only one badge behind Leaf and Gary." Oak says causing Ash to slump over depressed
"They have five badges already?" Ash asks upset
"Yes and they've both caught an impressive amount of Pokemon as well. Gary already has over thirty Pokemon and Leaf isn't far behind." Oak replies causing Ash to slump further into his seat. "How about you Ash? I haven't received any Pokemon from you besides Krabby here."
Krabby pops up on screen
Coo-ki Coo-ki
"Oh hey Krabby." Ash brightens up, "How are you doing buddy?"
Coo-ki! Coo-ki!
"We've become very good friends. We especially enjoy tea time and poetry." Professor Oak pulls out one of his poems, " 'Everyday it's cake and tea. Just like Pokemon and me.' "
Coo-ki Coo-ki
"Do you like it?" Professor Oak asks Ash
"Uh I don't really know much about poetry." Ash says trying to avoid the question
"Listen Ash writing poetry is a lot like training Pokemon. I can't write good poetry without rhymes and you can't be a good trainer without Pokemon. Gotta go now. The tea's getting cold." Professor Oak hangs up
Flashback ends
"You don't need rhymes for poetry." Alex says
"That's what you took from that?" Misty asks him annoyed
Brock heads over with a box of jelly-filled doughnuts
"Cheer up Ash. Here have a jelly-filled doughnut." He hands a doughnut out to everyone
"Hey Brock why do your doughnuts look like rice balls?" Alex asks
"An old family recipe." Brock answers
Ash places the doughnut back in the box, "I'm not hungry."
Everyone stares at Ash horrified
"He's really taking this hard." Misty says to Alex
"Yeah. It must suck being told that you're be-" Alex suddenly starts thinking about something, "Wait. I have one less badge than Ash. And I have less Pokemon."
His eyes widen, "How am I last!" He slumps over depressed
"Not you too!" Misty yells at Alex
Ash and Alex both wallow in self-pity
"You mustn't compare yourself to other trainers. You have to make it to the Pokemon League your own way." Misty tries to comfort them
"Yeah remember it's quality over quantity." Brock adds
"Right. I have to catch lots of Pokemon!" Ash yells out completely missing the point
"He's hopeless." Misty sighs
"I didn't ask you." Ash replies
Pikachu hears something in the bushes nearby
Pika?
He looks over and sees a Mankey wandering over to them
"Oh it's a Mankey!" Ash shouts excitedly
Mankey is examining Brock's doughnuts
Mankey! Mankey!
"I think it wants a doughnut." Alex says
Brock hands Mankey one, "Here you go."
Mankey jumps around excitedly and starts nibbling on the doughnut. Ash turns his cap backwards and pulls out a pokeball
"A Mankey will really help me in battle."
"Wait Ash. You're not just gonna throw a pokeball at it right?" Misty asks him
"There's no way I'm missing this chance." Ash chucks his pokeball at Mankey, "You're mine Mankey!"
Mankey looks up and throws the doughnut at the pokeball. The doughnut somehow triggers the pokeball's capture mechanism and gets caught
"Wha..." Ash stares at the pokeball dumbfounded. Misty giggles
"You caught a doughnut."
Mankey glares at them angrily. It starts thrashing around
"Uh oh. I think you made it mad." Alex says worriedly
Ash pulls out his Pokedex
Mankey the Pig Monkey Pokemon. A Fighting type. Extremely quick to anger. It could be docile one moment then thrashing away the next instant. Mankey evolves into Primeape. This Mankey is Male
"What does it mean by thrash?" Ash asks concerned
Mankey suddenly charges at them. Everyone screams. Misty returns Oddish and they take off running
"You should have let it finish that doughnut Ash! Didn't your mother ever teach you manners!" Misty yells at Ash
"She never mentioned Mankey" Ash replies
"I shouldn't have made them taste so good!" Brock yells
"Maybe try give it another one?" Alex suggests
"That might work." Brock grabs a doughnut and tosses it back towards Mankey...who smacks it out of the way
"I wasted a doughnut!" Brock yells
"Not the point Brock!" Alex yells
Misty trips on a rock
"Ah!" Misty yells
"Misty!" Ash yells
Misty looks back and sees Mankey rushing towards her. She screams. Mankey springboards off her head, which drives her face first into the ground, and slams into Ash
"Ah!"
Alex, Brock and Pikachu watch horrified as Mankey beats up Ash
"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!"
Mankey eventually stops and snatches Ash's hat as a trophy before hopping away. Ash lays on the ground beaten and broken
"I surrender..."
Mankey climbs up to the top of a tree and places Ash's hat on it's head
Team Rocket are scanning for the twerps with their binoculars
"There they are!" Jessie yells
"Hey why does the one twerp look like he's been attacked?" James asks
"Who cares? Now's the purrfect chance to capture Pikachu." Meowth then chuckles at his own pun
Alex helps Ash back to his feet. Misty has since rejoined them
"Since when did you have a twin brother?" Ash asks Alex confused
"Ooh that Mankey really did a number on you." Alex replies
"Are you ok Ash?" Misty asks
Ash moves to rub his head and then realizes his hat is gone. He hops to his feet panicked
"My hat! Where is it?" Ash yells upset
"Over there." Brock points at Mankey
"Mankey! Give me back my hat!" Ash yells
Mankey shakes his head. He then turns the cap backwards and mimes throwing a pokeball. Misty giggles
"I think it's mocking you."
Ash is seething, "I'll show it"
Ash starts trying to climb the tree
"You'll just get beat up again." Brock tells Ash
"I don't care! That's my hat!" Ash yells
"We can just get you another hat." Misty tells him
"I can't replace that hat! I won it at the official Pokemon League Expo!" Ash yells
"It's an Expo hat?" Brock asks
"You mean that competition the Pokemon League did?" Misty asks, "The one where they only gave away one hundred hats?"
"Yes!" Ash yells
"Oh I didn't know it was an Expo hat. I remember entering the same competition to win one of those." Misty reminisces
"I had to send in a million postcards to win that hat!" Ash yells
"No wonder I didn't win. I only sent in one." Misty replies sheepishly
Alex's eyes widen, "Wait a second. Is that why you had me write all those postcards!"
"Yes." Ash replies
"You told me that was to help starving children in Paldea!" Alex yells angrily
"I lied! There are no starving children in Paldea!"
Alex grabs his baseball bat and tries to attack Ash. Brock holds him back, "I'm gonna kill him! Let me go Brock!"
"We can't deal with you and Mankey." Brock tells Alex
Ash tries to reach for Mankey who decides to kick Ash knocking him out of the tree
"Ah!" Ash slams into the ground
"Alright I feel a bit better." Alex tells Brock who lets him go
Team Rocket pick that moment to reveal themselves
"Well hello there twerps." Jessie addresses them
"It's Team Rocket!" Misty yells
"Oh hey we haven't seen you guys in days." Alex says surprised
"Yeah it has been awhile." James admits, "Practically a full week."
Mankey drops down from the tree to investigate them. The TRio stare at him confused as he takes the time to poke and prod them. James eventually loses his temper and kicks Mankey
"Buzz off!"
"I wish he hadn't done that!" Brock yells
Mankey lands behind some rocks and rubs his head angrily
Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
James: Make it double!
Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James: To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie: Jessie!
James: James!
Jessie: Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light!
James: Surrender now or prepare to fight fight fight!
Meowth: Meowth! That's right!
Ash gets back to his feet, "I'm having a major hat crisis. Could you try and steal Pikachu another time?"
"Now's the perfect time." Meowth replies
"You're obviously too weak to protect your Pikachu." Jessie adds
"If you don't get out of here now you're gonna get as beat as Ash did." Brock warns them
"By who?" Jessie asks
"By Mankey."
"What's a Mankey?" Jessie asks
"I guess that thing I kicked?" James suggests
They turn in the direction he kicked Mankey and see the Pig Monkey Pokemon standing on a rock. It does not look happy
"Ah!"
Mankey suddenly starts glowing. It evolves into Primeape
"It evolved!" Jessie and James shout terrified
Primeape! Primeape!
Ash pulls out his Pokedex and scans it
Primeape the Pig Monkey Pokemon. A Fighting type. Always furious and tenacious to boot. It will not abandon chasing its quarry until it is caught. Primeape is the evolved form of Mankey and evolves into Annihilape. This Primeape is Male
"What does tenacious mean?" Ash asks
"It means it won't give up." Brock tells him
Ash gulps, "That's bad."
Primeape is thrashing around angrily. Team Rocket slowly start backing away
"Maybe you're right. This clearly isn't the best time." Jessie tells Ash
"Yeah we'll leave you to your troubles." James says
Primeape leaps at them
"Ah!"
Primeape starts beating them up. Brock and Alex grab Ash
"Run for it!" They start dragging him away. Misty chases after them. Ash notices that Primeape has dropped his hat
"My hat!"
Pikachu notices the hat and runs to grab it. Primeape meanwhile has beaten the crap out of Team Rocket. It notices Pikachu going for the hat and leaps at it
Pikachu!
Pikachu backs away from Primeape terrified. Primeape takes the time to grab Ash's hat and put it back on it's head
"It got my hat!" Ash yells angrily
"And it never sent in one postcard." Misty says
"Pikachu Thunderbolt!" Ash yells
Pikachuuuu!
Pikachu fires the Thunderbolt hitting Primeape and causing it to scream in pain. However once the attack ends all it seemed to accomplish was make Primeape angrier
"Uh oh." Alex mutters
Pikachu stares up at the Primeape terrified. Primeape kicks him sending him flying
Pikachu!
Ash catches him
"Are you ok Pikachu?"
Pikapi...
Primeape continues thrashing around
"So anyone else want to try and attack the thing? I'd use Hypno but I sent him off to Professor Oak the other day." Alex tells them
"Wait guys. I have a theory." Brock tells them
"What is it Brock?" Misty asks
"Primeape's not trying to steal your hat Ash. It's scared of us." Brock tells them
" 'Scared of us?' If anything we're more scared of it." Misty replies
"Think about it. As a Mankey Ash tried to capture it. Then James kicked it. I think it took your hat to get a little attention, cause it's lonely all by itself." Brock heads over to Primeape. He bends down and wraps Primeape's arm around his neck
"Everything's gonna be fine. Give me a smile buddy."
Primeape responds by attacking Brock
"Ow! Ow! Stop! Stop!" Brock cries in pain
Primeape punches Brock across the face sending him flying through the air and crashing into the ground hard. Alex and Ash look over at him
"You ok Brock?" Alex asks and Brock groans in response
"Guys!" Misty yells. They turn and see Primeape charging at them
"Ah!" They take off running with Primeape close behind them
Team Rocket get to their feet
"Don't let them get away!" Jessie yells and they chase after them
The path Ash, Alex, Misty and Pikachu are on splits off into two directions
"Maybe if we split up we might lose it!" Ash yells
"Ok!" Misty yells back. Her and Alex run down one path while Ash and Pikachu run down the other. Primeape without hesitation chases after Ash
"I was hoping it would go the other way!" Ash yells
Pika!
Team Rocket have gotten ahead of Ash and are busy digging a pit
"They should be here soon." James says
"What if they went the other way?" Meowth asks
"Be positive Meowth." Jessie tells him
They hear screaming and stick their heads out the hole. They see Ash and Pikachu running towards them
"There they are!"
Ash and Pikachu run straight into the hole
"Ouch!"
Ash looks around confused, "Who put this hole here?"
"Hello!" Team Rocket answer in reply
"Not you three again." Ash groans
"Give us Pikachu or else." Jessie threatens him
Primeape!
Everyone's eyes widen
"Oh no!" They yell and Primeape leaps into the pit. It goes after Team Rocket
"Ow! Ow! Ow!"
Ash and Pikachu take the time to climb out of the pit
"That was close huh Pikachu?" Ash asks
Pikachu!
"Quick let's run for it!" Ash prepares to run but stops. He thinks back to what Professor Oak told him, "No. No more running."
Primeape leaps out of the hole. Ash turns towards it, "No more games! I'm gonna capture you Primeape!"
Primeape! Primeape!
"I choose Pidgeotto!"
Pidgeo!
"Pidgeotto use Gust!" Ash yells
Pidgeotto flaps it's wings and the wind knocks Primeape back
"Now Wing Attack!"
Pidgeotto's wings start glowing and it smashes into Primeape
"Alright use Aerial Ace!"
However Primeape suddenly grabs Pidgeotto by it's foot
Pidgeo!
It slams Pidgeotto into the rocks nearby
"Pidgeotto no!" Ash yells
Primeape tosses Pidgeotto to the ground
Primeape! Primeape!
Alex, Misty and Brock finally catch up to Ash
"Ash what are you doing!" Misty yells shocked
"I'm catching Primeape!" Ash yells
Pidgeotto flaps it's wings and flies back into the air. It starts flying further up
"Pidgeotto what are you doing?" Ash yells confused
Pidgeotto flies higher and higher...and suddenly dives down
Pidgeo!
It slams headfirst into Primeape. Primeape is driven into the ground. Pidgeotto snatches Ash's hat and flies off the injured Primeape. It places the hat back on Ash's head
"Thanks Pidgeotto!" Ash tosses his pokeball and hits Primeape
wiggle wiggle wiggle ping
"I did it! I caught Primeape!"
Pikachu!
Pidgeo!
"Well done Ash!" Misty congratulates him
Ash picks up Primeape's pokeball, "With Primeape by my side no one will stop us! Come on out Primeape!"
Primeape!
Ash gets down on his knee and offers his hand to Primeape, "Hey Primeape I'm your new trainer."
Primeape attacks Ash
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Return Primeape!"
Alex helps Ash up
"I guess Primeape still needs to learn about teamwork." Alex says
"Yeah..." Ash groans
"Guys look over there!" Brock points ahead. In the distance a city can be seen, "It's Celadon City!"
"Wow we got here so quickly!" Misty exclaims surprised
"I guess we can thank Primeape for chasing us so far." Alex chuckles
Ash grins, "Celadon Gym here I come!"
