Me: It's finally time for the perfume episode
Alex: Oh I remember this episode. This is the one with Ashley
Ash: I don't want to talk about it
Alex: Oh don't be like that Ash. I thought you looked cute
Ash: You did?
Alex: No, but you should have seen the look on your face!
Ash(growls): Pokemon Scent-sation
Ash is leaning against a tree outside the Celadon Gym,which is shaped like a giant Gloom. He sighs
"There has to be someway I can get inside. Right Haunter?"
Haunter appears next to Ash. He pulls out a lit bomb
"No Haunter! That's too far!"
Haunter blows out the fuse and cackles
"This wouldn't be an issue if my 'friends' didn't abandon me." Ash mutters upset
Flashback
The Pokegang are walking through the streets of Celadon City. There are buildings all around them and plenty of people walking around
"Woah there is so much going on here." Ash looks around shocked
"Well Celadon is the biggest city in Kanto." Misty explains,"And there's a lot of places to visit. Like the Department Store, or the Game Corner, or the Hotels, or the-"
"I think he only cares about the gym." Alex interrupts and points at Ash who is ignoring Misty in search of the gym
"It's gotta be here somewhere."
"Rude." Misty scoffs
Brock sniffs the air. His face goes into goofy mode, "What is that heavenly smell?"
He starts following the smell like an Arcanine
"Brock where are you going?" Alex asks confused
Everyone follows Brock who stops in front of a small store. He presses his face to the glass windows. The store is filled with young women dressed in pink uniforms
"Beautiful girls..." Brock drools
"That is really creepy Brock." Alex tells him.
Ash reads the sign, " 'Erika's Perfume.' It's a perfume store?"
Misty's eyes sparkle, "Perfume?"
"What a waste of time and money." Ash groans
"Be honest you just want to challenge the gym leader." Alex tells him
"Well yeah, but you know I hate perfume." Ash responds, "Come on let's go."
Ash then notices Misty and Pikachu are gone
"Misty? Pikachu? Where are you guys?"
Brock pokes Ash on his shoulder to get his attention. He then points inside the store where Misty and Pikachu are speaking to the employees
"Try this scent. It will make you smell just like the ocean." The employee sprays some perfume on Misty's wrist
"I love it. How much?" Misty asks
"Misty wait!" Ash barges into the store, "Don't do it!"
"Don't do what?" Misty asks confused
Pikapi?
"Perfume's just a waste of money and it stinks!"
Alex strolls into the store dragging Brock behind him. He blocks his nose
"Man this place smells worse than that time I walked in on our dads' smoking." Alex exclaims
"When was that?" Ash asks confused
"I think I was like five. They asked me not to tell anyone. Especially your mom"
They hear someone clear their voice and turn to see the employees are all glaring at them. A woman dressed in a kimono is standing in the middle of them
"I resent that remark." The woman says. She walks up to Ash and Alex. Alex subtly steps behind Ash
"Are you accusing me of overcharging my customers for inferior perfume?" She asks angrily
"No no ma'am!" Ash replies quickly, "I just meant all perfume is stinky and a ripoff and it turns men into drooling zombies like this!" He lifts up Brock who is completely out of it at this point in time. Ash then drops Brock to the ground
The manager of the store points her finger at Ash and Alex, "Listen well! Perfume has the effects of relaxing people, invigorating them and healing their hearts!"
"That's Right!" Misty yells
"Yeah!" Brock yells
Pikachu!
Ash and Alex both gulp
"Well I don't need that smelly junk for any of that! I can do that all naturally!" Ash boasts. Alex just stares at him
"You don't know when to quit do you?" Alex asks annoyed
"If you are so offended by our perfume then you can just leave." The manager tells them
"Shame on you!" One of the employees yells at them
"Scram!" Another employee yells
And Ash and Alex are promptly kicked out of the store
"Ow! Give me back my Pikachu atleast!" Ash yells
"I don't think it's coming Ash." Alex points at Pikachu who is happily being petted by the store manager
"Traitors. Fine let's go Alex! We don't need any of those perfume lovers! They're just holding us back!"
"Uh whatever you say Ash." Alex replies. He looks around and spots the Game Corner. His eyes sparkle
"How about we head-"
"No! No gambling! You have a problem!" Ash yells
"It's only a problem when I lose." Alex moans
"I said no! Come on we have to find the gym!" Ash grabs Alex's wrist and drag him along. Unbeknownst to them, a wild Psyduck notices them
Psy?
It starts following them
"What do you mean we're banned!" Ash shouts confused
The two of them have arrived outside the Celadon Gym. However the two women standing guard at the door, who are dressed like Picnickers, have denied them entry
"This gym doesn't accept anyone who thinks perfume is a stinky ripoff." The picnicker says angrily
"But what does that have to do with anything?" Ash asks confused
"That stinky ripoff is made in this very gym." The other picnicker says in a surprisingly kind tone
"What?" Ash shouts shocked, "Come on you have to let me in!"
"I thought gym leaders weren't allowed to reject challengers?" Alex asks them
"The Gym leader doesn't have to know you were here! Now scram!" The picnicker pulls out a giant stamp and stamps them both
"Ow!" They rush off
"What are we gonna do now?" Ash asks
"Wait here. I'll head back to that store and speak with the manager." Alex replies and rushes off before Ash could object
Alex stops outside the Game Corner. He stares at the perfume store, then back at the Game Corner
"One game couldn't hurt." He heads into the Game Corner. Inside a bunch of people are playing on the slot machines. Alex heads over to the front desk
"Welcome to the Rocket Game Corner! You can exchange your winnings here for fabulous prizes!"
"What's the most expensive prize you have?" Alex asks
"A one of a kind Pokemon." The desk worker replies. "9999 coins."
Alex pulls out a bunch of poke dollars, "Alright where do I start?"
Alex takes a seat between two gamblers who are both losing miserably
"Let me show you how it's done gentlemen."
Ash is fuming
"He went to the Game Corner didn't he!"
Haunter cackles
Flashback ends
"I'm never gonna get my fifth badge." Ash sulks
Psst
Ash looks around, "Hello?"
Team Rocket reveal themselves
"Team Rocket!" Ash yells shocked
"I bet you weren't allowed into the gym huh twerp?" Jessie asks
"How did you know that?" Ash asks
"Please we spy on you all the time." Meowth replies
"True...what's your point though?" Ash asks
"We want to help. We have a plan to get you inside." James replies
"You do? Wait a minute why would you want to help me? Is this some plan to steal Pikachu?" Ash asks suspiciously
"No we're just against unfair business practices!" Jessie exclaims
"Yeah we may be criminals but we're not criminally corrupt!" James exclaims
"We're gonna help you fight da man! Or in this case da wo-man!" Meowth exclaims
"Alright I'm still suspicious but I don't really have many options. What's your plan?" Ash asks
"Follow us." Team Rocket lead Ash away from the gym. The three struggle not to laugh
(Sucker)
Flashback
Team Rocket are sneaking through Celadon Gym
"Come on Jess just tell us why we're here?" James asks
"Fine. The owner of this gym runs a very popular perfume store, and this is the place where they manufacture it. If we manage to swipe their secret ingredient we can start our own rival perfume store and make billions." Jessie answers
"Billions?" James and Meowth ask stunned. The two of them grin, "Let's do it!"
"Shh! Do you want them to catch us?" Jessie asks annoyed and her teammates shut their mouths. They come across a locked door
"I bet this is the room. Meowth if you may?"
Meowth steps forward, "Let me work my magic."
Meowth sticks his claw into the lock. He wiggles it around for a bit until he hears a click, "Got it."
They open the door only to enter a greenhouse
"I don't think this is where they store the perfume." James states obviously
"Ugh why would a Grass type Gym have a greenhouse!" Jessie exclaims angrily
A Gloom wanders out from amongst the flowers into their view
"It's a Gloom." Meowth says surprised
Gloom notices them
Gloom!
Yellow/orangey spore is released from it's head and spreads throughout the room. Team Rocket clutch their noses
"It stinks!" Jessie yells
"I can't breathe!" James yells
"Run for ya lives!" Meowth yells and the three of them dash out of the room. They lean against a wall and take deep breaths
"That was the worst thing I've ever smelt." James moans
"It was awful. Who keeps that in a perfume place?" Jessie complains
"My nose is on fire!" Meowth yells
"Meowth you don't have a nose." Jessie tells him annoyed
"What? Oh no the fumes must have burnt it off!" Meowth starts running around panicked. Then he stops in realization, "Oh right I never had a nose to begin with."
He turns and sees Jessie and James are unconscious, "Guys?"
He then gets hit with a giant stamp by the Picnicker
Flashback ends
Jessie and James are now in disguise, Meowth hiding in James' shirt, and they've returned to the gym. Ash is also with them, but he's wearing a dress and has a blonde wig on
"Do I really have to wear this?" He asks them
"Yes. Those guards are on the lookout for a young boy named Ash but they're not looking for a young girl named Ashley." Jessie tells them
"And you couldn't have thought of a better name?"
"It was that or Cassidy. Trust me we picked the better option." Jessie replies
They enter the gym and head over to the front desk
"Excuse me. We'd like to enroll our daughter Ashley into your Pokemon training classes." Jessie tells the woman
"Nothing but the best for our little princess." James adds in
"That's-" Meowth starts saying before James punches him
Ash notices that the woman at the desk is one of the employees from the perfume shop. He quickly looks away
(There's no way this plan is gonna work)
"Sure thing. Just sign here." The woman tells Jessie who does so, "Alright follow me young lady. I'll lead you to the classes."
"Oh ok." Ash replies in as high pitched a voice as he can muster. He heads off after the woman
"Goodbye sweetie!" James waves goodbye to Ash
"See you soon." Jessie waves goodbye
As soon as Ash is out of sight the two of them slip away
"Alright now's our chance to get revenge." Jessie tells them. They quickly change out of their disguises, "Meowth did you bring the bomb?"
"Right here." Meowth shows them the bomb, "I got it from that twerp's Haunter. Told him it was for a prank."
"Alright once we swipe the perfume ingredient, plant the bomb. We can slip out in the chaos." Jessie explains the plan to them
Ash is still following the employee
"Excuse me ma'am, but where is the Gym leader?" Ash asks
"Oh you'll meet her soon. She's the teacher of the class"
They enter the greenhouse which is full of Grass type Pokemon. The gym workers are busy tending to them. The woman Ash is following leads him to a small group in the middle of the greenhouse. Ash notices some familiar faces
(What are Misty and Brock doing here!) Ash's eyes widen. He also notices Pikachu and Oddish sitting near the front of the class
"Lady Erika. I'd like to introduce our newest student." The woman announces
The teacher of the class turns to face them. She is standing next to a Gloom
"Welcome."
Ash's eyes widen
(It's the manager of the store! Don't tell me she's also the gym leader!)
Erika walks over to Ash who is keeping his eyes on the ground
"It's nice to meet you." She tells Ash
"Thank you." Ash replies in his high pitched voice
Brock heads over to them
"You sure are a shy young lady but don't worry. Everyone here wants to be your friends." Brock says gently. He turns towards the class, "Let's all give her a warm welcome."
Ash hears footsteps as someone approaches them
"Lady Erika I've finished watering the Pokemon." Ash's eyes widen even more
(No. Not her too.)
"Very good Leaf. I'd like to introduce you to your new classmate. Ashley this is Leaf." Erika makes introductions
Ash gulps and slowly turns to face Leaf who is smiling brightly. However as soon as she sees Ash her expression changes to one of confusion
"Ash-" Ash quickly hugs her
"Oh Leaf it's so good to see you again." He leans in close and whispers into her ear, "I'll explain later. Go along with it for now."
Ash pulls away
"Oh do you two know each other?" Erika asks
"Uh yeah we're childhood friends." Leaf answers confused, "I'm so glad to see you again Ash...ley?"
"Excuse me Erika could I ask a question?" Misty thankfully interrupts
"Of course you may Misty" Erika answers
"I was wondering why we could all sit with Gloom. I always thought because of it's terrible smell that we couldn't get anywhere near Gloom so how come this one doesn't smell bad at all?" Misty asks
"That's an excellent question Misty. Leaf would you care to explain the answer?" Erika asks
"Sure. You see Gloom is able to control the scent that it emanates. Gloom will only smell bad when it's uncomfortable or feels in danger. Since Gloom trusts everyone here it doesn't smell. Is that right Lady Erika?" Leaf asks
"Yes very good Leaf." Erika walks over and kneels next to Gloom. She places her hand on Gloom's head. "You see I've had this Gloom since I was a little girl."
Erika starts reminiscing, "One day when I was out exploring the city, I got lost and ran into a Grimer. I was very scared, I couldn't even move. By chance a wild Gloom wandered over and I cried out to it for help. Gloom sensed I was in danger and used it's scent to scare the Grimer off. We've been best friends ever since."
Erika hugs her Gloom who blushes
"It's all because of her friendship with Gloom that Erika decided to become a Grass type Pokemon trainer." One of the workers explains
"That's such a beautiful story." Brock sniffs
"I wish Ash had heard it." Misty thinks out loud
"I heard it." Ash replies in his normal voice causing everyone to turn to him confused. He quickly looks down at the ground and makes his voice high pitched again, "Please don't stare at me I'm very shy."
"Hey you look awfully familiar. Have we met before?" Misty asks confused
"Maybe you met my sister." Ash replies
Leaf is just watching the whole thing very confused. Pikachu walks over to Ash excited
Pikapi!
"Ah!" Ash yells
Pikachu tries to hug Ash but he shoos him back. Pikachu sparks angrily and lets out a Thunderbolt
"Ahhhhhh!" Ash yells. He collapses to the ground and his wig falls apart
"It's Ash!" Misty and Brock yell shocked
"I'm so confused." Leaf mutters to herself
"Oh my!" Erika helps Ash up, "Are you ok young man?"
"I'm fine thanks." Ash replies
"That's good...wait I recognize you! You're that rude boy from the store!"
"That was you Ash?" Leaf asks causing Brock and Misty to be confused now
"Yeah that was me." Ash admits shamefully
"Ash why are you wearing a dress?" Brock asks confused
"The guards at the front of the gym wouldn't let me in so I wore this costume to sneak by. I want to challenge for the gym badge." Ash explains
"Really? I need to go talk to them. As a gym leader I am required to accept all gym challenges." Erika tells Ash
"So you'll battle me?"
"Yes."
Team Rocket manage to get a safe open. Inside is a bottle of some liquid
"This must be it." Jessie picks up the bottle
Ash ,having changed back into his normal clothes, and Erika are on the battlefield preparing to battle. One of the gym workers is acting as referee. Misty, Brock, Leaf and a couple other gym workers are sitting in the stands
"So how do you know Ash?" Misty asks Leaf
"Oh we grew up together in Pallet Town. He's one of my best friends." Leaf replies
"Best friend huh? Well I'm Ash's friend too." Misty replies a bit standoffishly
"Misty are you alright?" Brock asks softly
"I'm fine Brock. I'm just getting to know Ash's 'best friend' here." Misty replies
"How did you and Ash meet?" Leaf asks
"I fished him out a river." Misty replies
"That sounds like Ash." Leaf admits
"This will be a three-on-three Pokemon battle." Erika announces, "I assume you know how standard gym rules work?"
"Yes! Let's battle!" Ash yells
"For my first Pokemon I choose Tangela!" Erika gracefully tosses her pokeball
Tangela
Ash pulls out his Pokedex and scans Tangela
Tangela the Vine Pokemon. A Grass type. Its identity is obscured by masses of thick, blue vines. The vines are said to never stop growing. Tangela evolves into Tangrowth. This Tangela is Female
"I know exactly which Pokemon to burn you up. Go Charmander!"
Char Charmander!
"That lame Charmander doesn't stand a chance." One of the workers says
"Battle begin!" The referee yells
"Tangela use Vine Whip!" Erika yells
Some of the vines around Tangela's body extend and move to strike Charmander
"Charmander Flamethrower!" Ash yells
Charmander fires the Flamethrower burning the vines which quickly retreat back to Tangela
Tangela!
"Now Fire Fang!"
Charmander's fangs became enflamed and it rushes towards Tangela. However right before it bites Tangela, the Vine Pokemon smacks it's vines against the ground bouncing over Charmander
Char?
"Now Tangela use Leech Seed!"
Tangela spits a seed out of the void between it's vines which hits Charmander's back. Vines immediately sprout out of the seed and wrap around Charmander
Charmander!
Charmander tries to break free. The vines start glowing and red energy surrounds Charmander who falls to it's knees
"Charmander no!" Ash yells
"Now Tangela use Grassy Terrain!"
Tangela shoves it's vines into the ground. She starts glowing a green colour which spreads throughout the battlefield. Flowers start sprouting up all around the field. Tangela withdraws her vines but is still glowing green
"What's going on?" Ash asks confused
"Grassy Terrain is a special ability which boosts the power of Grass type Pokemon by changing the field to better suit them. As long as Tangela stays conscious she will maintain the attack." Erika explains in a lecture-like tone
Ash growls, "Then I'll just knock her out! Charmander Fire Spin!"
Charmander opens it's mouth and breathes out fire. The fire spirals around itself as it flies towards Tangela
"Tangela dodge now!"
Tangela once again uses it's vines to bounce away from the attack. The vines around Charmander glow again causing it to scream in pain
"Charmander try to fight it!" Ash yells
Charmander starts trying to burn the vines with it's tail flame
Charmander! Char!
"Now to finish this. Tangela use Ancient Power!" Erika yells
Tangela's body starts glowing silver. The energy starts moving up to Tangela's face where it all forms into one ball which Tangela then throws at Charmander
"Charmander look out!" Ash yells
The ball hits Charmander head on
Charmander!
Charmander slams into the ground fainted
"Charmander is unable to battle! May the challenger send out their next Pokemon!"
"I knew it." One of the workers comments and the others laugh. Misty and Leaf both watch them annoyed
"Return Charmander!" Ash returns his Pokemon
"Your Charmander is strong, but I am more than capable of handling Fire type Pokemon." Erika tells Ash
Ash scoffs and grabs a Pokeball, "Oh yeah, well handle this! Go Primeape!"
Primeape!
Misty and Brock's jaws drop
"He's using Primeape!" Brock yells shocked
"What's the matter with Primeape?" Leaf asks confused
"Alright Primeape use-" Primeape suddenly turns towards Ash and tackles him, "Ah!"
"Oh my!" Erika shouts shocked. Everyone watches as Primeape starts attacking Ash
"That's why." Misty tells Leaf
"Oh I get it." Leaf
"Primeape please stop!" Ash begs
"He can't even control his own Pokemon!" The workers continue laughing at Ash's expense.
Tangela! Tangela!
Tangela laughs as well. However Primeape suddenly stops attacking Ash. He turns towards Tangela
Ape Ape Primeape?(Are you laughing at me?)
Tangela continues laughing
Primeape!(That makes me mad!)
Primeape leaps onto the battlefield and starts thrashing around. Pikachu helps Ash to his feet
"Primeape are you gonna battle for me?" Ash asks surprised
Primeape nods
"Yes! Well then Primeape use Scratch!"
Primeape rushes towards Tangela. Tangela tries to use it's vines to bounce away but Primeape suddenly grabs onto it
Tangela!
"Huh!" Erika yells shocked
"Ha I knew it would do that!" Ash cheers
Primeape slams Tangela into the ground before flinging it to the side. Primeape then drops down onto all fours and starts rolling towards Tangela
"Tangela get out of there!" Erika yells
Primeape slams into Tangela sending it flying into the air
"Primeape finish it with Seismic Toss!" Ash yells
Primeape leaps into the air and grabs Tangela. It spins through the air before tossing Tangela into the ground. Tangela faints upon impact. The flowers around the battlefield immediately wither and die
"Tangela is unable to battle! Gym leader send out your next Pokemon!"
The workers are stunned. Primeape pumps it's fists into the air
Primeape!
"Yeah way to go Primeape! You tied it up for me buddy!" Ash cheers
Pikachu!
"He got lucky." One of the workers mumbles
"Return Tangela. Go Weepinbell!" Erika yells
Weepinbell
Ash scans it
Weepinbell the Flycatcher Pokemon. A Grass/Poison type. The leafy parts act as cutters for slashing foes. It spits a fluid that dissolves everything. Weepinbell is the evolved form of Bellsprout and evolves into Victreebel through use of a Leaf Stone. This Weepinbell is Female
"A Poison type? If I remember correctly Fighting type moves don't have much of an effect on those." Ash mumbles
Pikachu nods
"Alright we'll just improvise as usual. Primeape use Take Down!" Ash yells
Primeape charges towards Weepinbell
Primeape!
"Weepinbell Sleep Powder!" Erika yells and Weepinbell starts breathing out the blue powder towards Primeape
"Primeape don't breathe it in!" Ash yells
Primeape runs through the Sleeping powder...and isn't affected in the slightest
"What?" Ash and Erika both yell confused
"How is that possible!" One of the workers' yells
Primeape slams into Weepinbell knocking it back
Ash pulls out his Pokedex and scans Primeape
Vital Spirit. Pokemon with this ability cannot be put to sleep
Ash starts laughing, "What a lucky break! Primeape use Scratch!"
Primeape moves to scratch Weepinbell but the Flycatcher Pokemon slashes at it with it's leaf cutting Primeape's face
Primeape!
Primeape falls back and clutches it's face in pain
"Weepinbell use Bullet Seed!"
Weepinbell spits the seeds out of it's mouth and starts pummeling Primeape with them. The Pig Monkey Pokemon tries to swipe the seeds out of the way but there are too many
Primeape!
"Primeape!" Ash yells
A red glow surrounds Primeape and the Bullet seeds suddenly bounce off it and hit Weepinbell
Weepinbell!
"That was Counter!" Ash shouts excitedly
Primeape starts stomping the ground angrily
"Primeape what are you doing?" Ash asks confused
Primeape! Primeape!
Primeape waves it's fists angrily and suddenly charges at Weepinbell
"Primeape I didn't tell you to attack!" Ash yells
Primeape slams into Weepinbell and pins the Pokemon to the ground. It starts punching the Pokemon repeatedly
"Ah Weepinbell!" Erika yells
"I can't bear to look!" One of the workers covers her eyes
"It looks like Primeape's throwing a tantrum again." Brock comments
"At least it's on Weepinbell and not Ash." Misty tells him
"I take it that's happened before?" Leaf asks
"Oh yeah Primeape really did a number on Ash." Misty laughs
Primeape has literally beat Weepinbell into unconsciousness
"Weepinbell is unable to battle! Gym leader send out your last Pokemon!" The referee yells
"I guess that works." Ash says
Primeape hops off Weepinbell who Erika returns
"He's doing much better than I thought." One of the workers whispers to the others
"Yeah he may actually win." The other comments surprised
"Your battle skills are impressive Ash, but there's one thing you don't have." Erika pulls out her pokeball, "Empathy with your Pokemon. Without it you'll never become a great trainer. Now I'm gonna teach you a lesson in empathy. Gloom go!"
Gloom!
Ash scans Gloom
Gloom the Weed Pokemon. A Grass/Poison type. Gloom releases a foul fragrance from the pistil of its flower. When faced with danger, the stench worsens. If this Pokémon is feeling calm and secure, it does not release its usual stinky aroma. Gloom is the evolved form of Oddish and evolves into Vileplume by use of a Leaf Stone or into Bellossom by use of a Sun Stone. This Gloom is Male
Oddish starts jumping on Misty's lap
"Yeah Oddish that's what you might evolve into one day." Misty tells him
"Alright Primeape only one more Pokemon and we win!" Ash tells Primeape who charges towards Gloom
Gloom!
Gloom releases it's stench which washes over Primeape
Primeape!
Primeape stops dead in it's tracks and clutches it's nose
"What's the matter Primeape?" Ash asks
Primeape drops onto it's knees and covers it's nose with both hands
"It must be Gloom's stench! You have to fight through it Primeape!" Ash yells
Pikachu! Pika Pika Pikachu!
Primeape tries to get back to it's feet
"Gloom use Solar Beam!" Erika yells
Gloom starts charging up Solar Beam while Primeape tries to fight against the stench
"Come on Primeape! You have to get out of there!" Ash yells
Gloom fires the Solar Beam hitting Primeape head on
Primeape!
Primeape faints
"Primeape is unable to battle! Challenger send out your last Pokemon!" The referee yells
Ash returns Primeape. Erika laughs, "Poor Ash. Your Pokemon could use some more training"
Meanwhile Alex is winning big at the slots. The two Gamblers next to him are cheering him on
"Let's go Alex! Let's go!"
Alex pulls the lever and it lands on 7777
"Yes!" He cheers and the coins come rolling in, "That's 10 000!"
Ash's fist is clenched. He is staring at Gloom
(What am I gonna do? My Pokemon won't be able to handle that stench...)
Ash falls to his knees, "I'm screwed"
Pikachu suddenly zaps him
"Ow! What was that for Pikachu?"
Pikachu gets close to Ash and pats him on his forehead

Ash hops to his feet, "Thanks for the pep talk Pikachu!"

Pidgeotto takes flight
"Come on Ash you can do it!" Misty yells
Gloom unleashes it's stench. The spore travels towards Pidgeotto
"Alright Pidgeotto blow that back with Whirlwind!" Ash yells
Pidgeotto starts flapping it's wings quickly. The wind created from it blows the stench back towards Gloom and Erika. Gloom is unaffected, Erika...not so much
"Oh that's horrible!" Erika covers her nose
Gloom notices Erika suffering and quickly gets rid of the stench
"Now Pidgeotto Wing Attack!"
Pidgeotto's wings start glowing and it slams into Gloom
Gloom!
Gloom is knocked to the ground
"Gloom get up!" Erika yells
Gloom starts getting back to it's feet when Pidgeotto speeds past knocking it back to the ground
"It's so quick!" One of the workers yells shocked
Pidgeotto flies higher into the air before doing a u-turn and plummeting back towards Gloom
"Gloom look out!" Erika yells
Pidgeotto slams into Gloom
Gloom!
Gloom faints
"Gloom is unable to battle! The winner of the match is Ash Ketchum!"
"We won!" Ash jumps into the air excitedly
Pikachu!
"Yeah way to go Ash!" Misty and Leaf cheer Ash on
"Nice going Ash!" Brock yells at his friend
The gym workers are stunned silent
"I can't believe it..." Erika stares at Ash shocked. She raises her pokeball, "Return Gloom."
"Woohoo! Way to go Pidgeotto! You won me the battle!"
Pidgeotto flies around Ash excitedly
"Yes well done twerp." Ash suddenly stops celebrating. Team Rocket appear at the top of one of the lights
"What are you three doing!" Ash yells at them
"Do you know those three?" Leaf asks
"Unfortunately yes." Misty replies
Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
James: Make it double!
Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James: To extend our reach to the stars above!
Meowth: And last but not least, to blow this place sky high!
Meowth presses a button...and the bomb goes off in the ceiling right above them
"Ah!" They're blown into the air by the explosion
"Meowth where did you hide the explosive!" Jessie yells
"I thought it was best to hide it close to our escape route so we didn't forget where it was!" Meowth yells
"Well that turned out great!" James yells
"We're blasting off again!"
The explosion has caused the gym to catch fire. The gym workers are busy rounding up the Pokemon
"Quick we need to get out of here!" One of the girls shouts to a Bellsprout
Erika, Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, Oddish and Leaf have managed to get outside
"Why don't you guys have sprinklers?" Brock asks horrified
"We did but they stopped working a few days ago." Erika answers
"How did Team Rocket manage to plant a bomb inside the gym?" Misty asks
Ash looks away guiltily
The fire department has arrived and are working on putting the fire out. Misty spots a bunch of Water Pokemon using their attacks on the fire
"Ash we can use our Pokemon to help out!" Misty yells at him
"Right! Go Squirtle!"
"Go Staryu Starmie and Tentacool!"
"Geodude go!"
Squirtle spots the fire and places his shades on
Squirtle!
The Pokemon leap into action. Erika touches her pokeballs and realizes one is missing
"Oh no!" She starts looking around panicked
"What's wrong Erika?" Brock asks her
"I must have dropped Gloom's pokeball while we were running! He's still inside!"
Ash suddenly takes off running towards the gym
"Ash what are you doing!" Misty yells after him
"I have to save Gloom!" Ash yells back
"Ash it's too dangerous!" Leaf yells but Ash heads inside
Ash runs through the gym trying to find Gloom
"Gloom! Gloom where are you!"
Gloom!
He follows the sound of Gloom's voice and finds Gloom hiding in a corner terrified
"There you are!" Ash runs towards Gloom, "Come on Gloom I have to get you out of here!"
However some of the ceiling collapses and almost hits Gloom startling it and causing it to release it's stench
"Ah!" Ash clutches his nose, "The smell!"
Gloom looks around terrified
"I have to save it!"
Ash takes a deep breath and rushes closer. He reaches for Gloom but trips
"Ah!" He slams into the ground and starts breathing again
"Oh it's so bad!" Ash starts losing consciousness. Suddenly the smell disappears, "What happened?"
Gloom runs over to Ash
Gloom! Gloom!
"You stopped..." Ash picks Gloom up, "Come on let's go Gloom."
"He's been in there too long!" Brock starts rushing towards the gym
"Brock wait! Look!" Misty points ahead. Ash rushes out of the gym clutching Gloom closely
"Ash!" Brock, Misty and Leaf shout relieved
"Gloom!" Erika shouts relieved
Ash rushes over to them and takes some deep breaths
"It's ok...it's ok..."
Gloom hops into Erika's arms and hugs her
"I'm so glad you're ok."
Ash falls backwards but Brock catches him
"Thanks Brock." Ash pants
The fire has been put out. The gym is badly damaged
"I'm sorry about the gym." Ash says
"It's fine. We'll be able to rebuild." Erika replies. She reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Rainbow badge, "You deserve way more than this for what you did, but here you go Ash. You really earned this."
Ash takes the badge, "Thank you Erika. Um I know this might not be the best time, but my friend also wants a gym battle. I don't know where he is at the moment though."
"That's fine. You tell your friend he can come by anytime tomorrow. I'll figure something out." Erika replies
"Who are you talking about?" Leaf asks Ash confused. Ash grins
"It's a surprise. Ok let's go guys. It's quite late."
Misty looks up at the moon, "No kidding."
The three of them plus Pikachu and Oddish head towards the Pokemon Centre
"So where is Alex anyway?" Misty asks
Ash sighs, "Losing all our money at the Game Corner."
"What!" Brock and Misty yell out shocked
"Down with tyranny! Down with tyranny!" They hear chanting
"What's that?" Brock looks around confused
Alex and the two Gamblers from the Game Corner march down the street carrying signs
"We are protesting the terrible abuse of power from the Celadon Gym!" Alex shouts
"Rise up! Rise up and overthrow the tyrants!" One of the gamblers yells
"Alex what are you doing!" Ash yells shocked
"Oh good you made it just in time. My friends and I are protesting." Alex replies
"Hello" The two Gamblers greet them
"Uh hi." Misty says confused
"Alex I got the ban lifted." Ash tells him
"You did? But I spent all that time making these cool signs and everything." Alex moans
"There there buddy. You can't win them all." The second gambler pats him on the back
"Alex who are these two?" Brock asks
"Oh this is Darian and Jasper. I met them at the Game Corner."
"Alex is teaching us his skills." Jasper tells them
"Please tell me you didn't lose all our money." Ash begs him
"Yeah about that..." Alex chuckles nervously, "So I won 10 000 coins."
"You did!" The rest of the group shout excited
"Yeah but here's the catch. I uh spent 9999 of them on a Pokemon." Alex smiles
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt"
Team Rocket have landed somewhere in the middle of Celadon
"That's the last time I trust you to plant the bomb." Jessie tells Meowth angrily
"Hey at least we managed to swipe the secret ingredient." Meowth says optimistically
"That's true. Let's take a sniff." Jessie opens the perfume
"Gross!" They yell, "Essence of Gloom!"
The next day the group approach the remains of the Celadon Gym. The sun is shining brightly
"Woah they really did a number on this place." Alex says at the sight of the gym
"Don't remind me." Ash mumbles
Leaf is waiting outside the gym. She sees Ash and them in the distance and runs over to them
"Good there you guys-Alex!"
"Leaf!" Alex stares at her shocked. Leaf hugs him, "What are you doing here?"
"What didn't Ash tell you?" Leaf asks
Alex glares at Ash who grins, "Must have slipped my mind."
Leaf steps back from Alex who is still quite stunned
"Wow um this is surprising, but um why are you here?" Alex asks confused
"After I battled Erika I asked if I could enroll in her Pokemon training classes since she's such an expert on Grass type Pokemon and everything." Leaf answers
"That makes sense. Did um...did she mention the perfume incident?" Alex asks
Leaf rolls her eyes, "Yes Alex she told literally everyone. You and Ash can't do anything without getting in trouble can you?"
"That's not true! We uh..." Alex trails off as he thinks about Team Rocket, the SS Anne sinking, Sabrina ,and the Lavender Town incident, "Alright maybe it's a little true."
Leaf laughs, "Come on follow me. I'll show you where you're having your gym battle."
Leaf grabs Alex's hand and drags him along. The others follow
"So I'm sensing tension there." Misty comments
"What are you talking about? They get along fine." Ash replies confused
Misty sighs, "Not what I meant Ash."
The Psyduck from the day before spots them
Psyduck?
It follows after them
Leaf leads the group to a grassy area. A make-shift battlefield has been set up. Erika is waiting there
"Good morning everyone." Erika tells them
"Good morning Erika." They reply. Erika approaches Alex
"You must be Ash's friend."
"Yeah. Um I just wanted to apologize about yesterday and the whole perfume thing-" Alex starts saying
"It's alright. All is forgiven. Now let's get to our battle." Erika tells him
Her and Alex take their places on the battlefield while Leaf, Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu and Oddish are watching on the sidelines. One of the gym workers takes up position as referee
"This will be a three-on-three Pokemon battle!" The referee yells
"For my first Pokemon I choose Tangela!" Erika tosses her pokeball and Tangela pops out. Alex takes out his Pokedex and scans it
"A pure Grass-type. Alright then. I choose Beedrill!"
Buzz Buzz
"Good call Alex!" Leaf yells out in support
"Uh Leaf are you allowed to root against Erika?" Ash asks
"Oh yeah Erika doesn't mind." Leaf replies
"Battle begin!" The referee yells
"Alright Beedrill start off with Twineedle!" Alex yells and Beedrill buzzes into action. It speeds towards Tangela. It raises it's pincers and tries to stab Tangela with them. However Tangela dodges rather quickly
"Woah it got faster!" Ash yells surprised
"Tangela use Vine Whip to knock Beedrill out of the sky!" Erika yells
Tangela extends a couple vines out of it's body and starts swinging them at Beedrill. The Poison Bee Pokemon tries to dodge and stab but gets sideswiped
Buzz!
Beedrill slams into the ground
"Now Ancient Power!"
"She's going for Ancient Power already!" Brock yells surprised
Tangela gathers the silver energy and fires it at Beedrill who is still trying to get it's bearings
"Beedrill Agility quick!" Alex yells
Beedrill uses it's stinger as support to push itself into the air and it speeds past the Ancient Power
"Phew. That was close." Alex rubs some sweat off his forehead, "Alright direct attacks didn't work. Let's try something else. Beedrill use Toxic Spikes!"
An orb at each end of Beedrill's pincers forms. It fires the orbs which fly up into the air and then explode. A bunch of pink coloured spikes fall from the sky and land all around the field
"Be careful Tangela. If you touch any of those spikes they'll poison you." Erika warns her Pokemon
"Now Beedrill use Pin Missile!" Alex yells
Beedrill's pincers and stinger start glowing and it starts firing multiple needle shaped energy attacks at Tangela who once again manages to dodge. However Tangela almost runs directly into one of the spikes in it's haste and just barely manages to stop
Tangela!
Beedrill suddenly slashes at it with it's pincers. Tangela jumps back to avoid the attack and falls directly onto the spikes
"Tangela no!" Erika yells
Tangela jumps off the spikes and staggers around. A pink hue appears around the area where it's face should be

"It worked! Your Tangela dodged for nothing!" Alex laughs
Beedrill buzzes around Tangela
Buzz Buzz Buzz
Tangela tries to smack it out of the air with Vine Whip but Beedrill dodges this time
"Tangela use Ingrain!" Erika yells
Some of Tangela's vines shoot into the ground. They start absorbing energy and transferring it to Tangela
"Oh no you don't! Beedrill Twineedle!"
Beedrill tries to attack Tangela but the Pokemon dives to the side, it's vines extending in length to allow movement.
Alex growls, "Alright we'll see if you can heal faster than the poison can work."
"Tangela use Power Whip!"
Tangela's other vines extend out and start glowing purple. It swings them at Beedrill smacking the Pokemon and sending it hurtling towards the ground. However right before Beedrill hits the ground it sticks out it's pincers and uses it to flip itself around and take flight again
"Nice going Beedrill! Can't let them ground you again!" Alex yells
Tangela prepares to attack again when it suddenly flinches in pain
"Quick Twineedle!"
"He's really trying to get that move to hit huh." Leaf comments
Beedrill dashes towards Tangela and slams it's one pincer into the Vine Pokemon's side
Tangela!
It then brings down it's other pincer and hits Tangela so hard that it rips it out of the ground and sends it flying into the air
"Oh no Tangela!" Erika yells
"Now finish it off with Bug Bite!" Alex yells
Beedrill speeds to above Tangela and opens it's mouth as wide as possible-which isn't much considering how tiny it is-before chowing down on one of Tangela's vines. Tangela thrashes around in pain and Beedrill slams it into the ground. Beedrill flies away from Tangela who has fainted from either the attack, impact, or the poison. Possibly even all three
"Tangela is unable to battle! Gym leader send out your next Pokemon!"
"Return Tangela. Not bad Alex. I can tell your Beedrill is well trained." Erika compliments Alex
"Well we have been together for awhile now huh Beedrill."
Buzz Buzz
Erika grabs her pokeball, "My next Pokemon will be able to handle it. Go Exeggcute!"
Exeggcute!
"Wait she chose an Exeggcute?" Brock asks confused
"What's wrong Brock?" Ash asks
"Go ahead and scan it Ash." Brock advises him
Ash and Alex both pull out their Pokedex and scan Exeggcute
Exeggcute the Egg Pokemon. A Grass/Psychic type. Even though it appears to be eggs of some sort, it was discovered to be a life-form more like plant seeds. Exeggcute evolves into Exeggutor through use of a Leaf Stone. This Exeggcute is Male
"It's a Psychic type. That means it has the advantage over Poison types." Ash says
"Yes but it also has a double disadvantage to Bug types." Brock explains, "Clearly Erika has something up her beautiful sleeve."
"Uh-" Leaf is about to comment but Misty just shakes her head
"Don't bother."
Alex watches the Exeggcute warily
"Make your move Alex." Erika tells him
"I'm not sure what you're planning, but I'd rather not find out. Beedrill Twineedle!"
Beedrill rushes towards Exeggcute who does nothing. It gets closer and closer
"Reflect now!" Erika yells
Exeggcute's eyes glow and a orange coloured barrier appears in front of it. Beedrill hits into the barrier and is blown back by the attack
"Beedrill!" Alex yells
"Now Extrasensory!"
All the eggs/seeds open up their mouths and fire beams of energy-each which are different colours-which all surround Beedrill before exploding. Beedrill is instantly knocked out from the attack
"Beedrill is unable to battle! Challenger send out your next Pokemon!"
"Return Beedrill! You did great." Alex fiddles with his baseball bat as he contemplates his next move
(I wish I still had Hypno on me. I want to save Charmander for that Gloom I've heard about so he's out. Vaporeon and Machop don't stand a chance. Paras would probably be the best choice but I don't think it's strong enough to handle her Exeggcute. Which means I only really have one choice.) Alex grabs the golden pokeball.
"It's risky but I choose Gyarados!"
Rarrrrr!
"Gyarados!" Misty screams and ducks behind Ash
Exeggcute stares up at the Gyarados terrified
"A Gyarados? An interesting choice." Erika comments, "Exeggcute use Extrasensory!"
However Exeggcute is too terrified to attack. It just keeps shaking as it stares up at Gyarados
"Gyarados use Ice Fang!" Alex yells
Gyarados' fangs freeze over and it lunges at the immobile Exeggcute
"Exeggcute do something!" Erika yells
Exeggcute clenches it's eyes shut and throws up a Reflect. Gyarados smacks into it and suddenly freezes itself
"What!" Alex yells out frustrated, "You can't be serious!"
"Huh what a lucky break." Erika says surprised, "Alright Exeggcute use Solar Beam!"
Exeggcute starts charging up the Solar Beam. Thanks to the bright sunlight it charges up rather quickly and it fires
"Gyarados you need to break free!" Alex yells
However Gyarados is unable to do so and the Solar Beam hits it full force. It's blown across the battlefield and lands at Alex's feet...fainted
"Gyarados is unable to battle! Challenger send out your last Pokemon!"
Alex just stares at Gyarados in shock. Ash and Brock are just as dumbfounded
"Is it gone?" Misty asks Ash
"Uh yeah Misty it's gone." Ash replies
Misty returns to her original spot
"Return Gyarados..." Alex says limply. He's still trying to process things. He just reaches for his pokeballs when he realizes something
(Wait a second...) He starts counting how many pokeballs he has
"One two three four five six seven." Alex slaps himself, "I forgot all about it!"
Ash, Misty and Brock just stare at him dumbfounded
"Did he actually forget about that Pokemon he gambled all our money on?" Misty asks
"Yep." Ash replies
Leaf shakes her head, "He hasn't changed much has he?"
Alex groans, "Well I already screwed up. May as well just stick to my original plan. Go Charmander!"
Char Charmander!
"Charmander use Fire Fang!"
Charmander's teeth become emblazed and it rushes at Exeggcute
"Exeggcute use Reflect!" Erika yells
Exeggcute pulls up the barrier to protect itself. However right before Charmander attacks he suddenly spins around tossing some Embers from his tail towards Exeggcute. The Embers go through the barrier and hit Exeggcute

"Ah he tricked me!" Erika yells
The barrier disappears and Charmander bites Exeggcute with it's Fire Fang

"Exeggcute is unable to battle! Gym leader send out-" However the referee stops talking when Charmander starts glowing
"It's evolving!" Ash shouts excitedly
Everyone watches as Charmander evolves into Charmeleon

Alex pulls out his pokedex and scans Charmeleon
Charmeleon the Flame Pokemon. A Fire type. In the rocky mountains where Charmeleon live, their fiery tails shine at night like stars. Charmeleon is the evolved form of Charmander and evolves into Charizard. This Charmeleon is Male
"Way to go Charmeleon! We can win this for sure!" Alex shouts
"Don't be so confident Alex! Go Gloom!" Erika tosses her pokeball and Gloom pops out. It lands on some of the Toxic Spikes which absorb into it's skin

Gloom lets out it's stench and Charmeleon clutches it's nose disgusted
Charmeleon!
"Don't give up Charmeleon! I know you can handle it!" Alex yells
Charmeleon nods and removes it's hands from it's nose. It stares down Gloom determined
"Is Charmeleon really gonna try and battle through that smell?" Misty asks shocked
"It will for Alex." Brock replies
"Charmeleon use Flame Charge!" Alex yells
Flames surround Charmeleon's body and it charges towards Gloom
"Gloom use Acid!" Erika yells
Gloom spits out a ball of acid from it's mouth which hits Charmeleon in the face
Charmeleon!
Charmeleon is knocked to the ground
"Now Gloom use Petal Dance!" Erika yells
Gloom stretches it's flower open and fires a bunch of petals out of it and towards Charmeleon who is getting back to his feet. The petals hit Charmeleon knocking him back to the ground
"Charmeleon!" Alex yells
Gloom fires more petals towards Charmeleon. Charmeleon quickly gets back to his feet and moves to dodge when the smell from the stench overwhelms him and he instinctively grabs his nose. The petals hit him head on and knock him on his back
"Charmeleon..." Alex looks worried
He gets bombarded with petals for a third time. He pushes himself to his knee
Char...Charmeleon...
"He's still trying." Leaf comments
"I don't know if he can take much more though." Brock says
Charmeleon's tail flame suddenly grows to a massive size
Charmeleon!
Charmeleon unleashes a Flamethrower destroying the next round of petals causing everyone to gasp in shock. A fiery aura surrounds him as he gets back to his feet
"It's Blaze!" Alex yells excited
Charmeleon stares at Gloom furiously. The Weed Pokemon prepares to attack but suddenly trips
"Gloom are you alright?" Erika asks concerned
Gloom gets back to his feet but he is confused
Gloom?
"Oh no you used Petal Dance too many times!" Erika shouts
"Now's our chance. Charmeleon use Flame Charge!"
The flames surround Charmeleon and he charges forward. He slams into Gloom knocking the Pokemon to the side
"Now Flamethrower!" Alex yells
Charmeleonnnnnnnn!
Charmeleon fires a massive Flamethrower which absolutely roasts Gloom. The poor Pokemon is left scorched and collapses to the ground unconscious
"Gloom is unable to battle! The winner of the match is Alex!"
"Yeah he won!" Ash cheers
"Way to go Alex!" Leaf cheers as well
Charmeleon staggers and falls to the ground exhausted. Alex rushes over to him and helps him to his feet
"You did fantastic buddy." Alex hugs him

Erika returns Gloom, "Take a good rest."
She heads over to Alex and offers him the Rainbow Badge, "Congratulations Alex. You earned this badge."
Alex takes the badge, "Thank you Erika."
The group are hanging out in the park for the rest of the afternoon. They have let their Pokemon out to play. Charmeleon is currently talking to Paras and Machop about it's evolution. It notices Ash's Charmander is sitting by himself and that he seems down. It heads over to him

Char Charmander Char(He expected me to do well against Erika but I went out against her first Pokemon. I'm just as weak as my old trainer said...)
Charmeleon! Char! Char Char Meleon Charmeleon! Charmeleon(Don't say that! Your old trainer knew nothing! You may have lost yesterday but that doesn't mean you're weak! And Ash knows that)

Charmander gets up and heads towards Squirtle and Haunter. He stops at a pond and stares at his reflection
Charmander Char(I will get stronger)
"So where's the next gym?" Ash asks
"Calm down Ash. Celadon's a big city, there's still plenty for us to do here." Brock tells him
"Yeah I want to visit the Department Store." Misty explains
"But gym badges." Ash moans
"There'll be time for that. I also actually want to visit a place if you guys don't mind." Brock tells them
"Fine I guess it's only fair." Ash reluctantly agrees
Alex is talking with Leaf
"So since we're staying in Celadon for a few days, would you like to stick with us for awhile?" Alex asks
"Sorry Alex but today was actually my last day in Erika's class. I'm leaving the city tomorrow. I just have to pick up my Pokemon from the Pokemon Centre" Leaf admits causing Alex's face to fall
"Oh."
"Hey cheer up. I'm sure we'll run into each other again soon."

The wild Psyduck wanders over to Brock,Misty and Ash
"Look it's a Psyduck." Brock says surprised
Psyduck?
"Oh I want it!" Misty jumps to her feet excited and pulls out a pokeball
Psyduck clutches it's head
"It seems weird." Ash says. He pulls out his pokedex to scan it. Misty gets close to hear what it has to say
Psyduck the Duck Pokemon. A Water type. It is constantly wracked by a headache.
Misty knocks the Pokedex out of Ash's hand in shock
"Misty!" Ash bends down to pick it up
"You mean this thing always has a headache! I don't think I want it anymore."
Ash picks up his Pokedex but as he moves to get back up he accidentally bumps Misty causing her to fall forward
"Ah!" She slams into the ground and her pokeball rolls up to Psyduck
Psyduck?
Psyduck pecks the pokeball which activates and sucks it in
"Ah!" Misty yells
wiggle wiggle ping
"No!" Misty yells
"Goodwork Misty. You caught Psyduck." Ash tells her
Misty clutches her head, "Oh this is giving me a headache"

Me: Alright enough I have things to say. I'm gonna be honest, I forgot I gave Alex a new Pokemon when I was writing the gym battle and I didn't feel like going and changing it to accommodate for that. I assume most of you probably know what the Pokemon he got already but I'm still gonna keep it a surprise until I find a good spot to reveal it. One more thing that's really important.
