pokemonking0924-I did try to do a chapter on Showdown at Dark City but it wasn't coming out too well so I ultimately decided to skip it
Ash: Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon
The Pokegang are travelling through Grampa Canyon with no sign of trees in sight
"See no forest in sight. So why was there just a random one in the middle of the desert?" Alex is still harping on about this
Brock sighs, "Alex I told you already I don't know. Maybe a Diglett just decided to plant trees in that part specifically?"
Ash and Misty just groan as Alex and Brock continue their argument
"Do you think they'll ever stop?" Misty asks
"No." Ash replies, "It feels like this has been going on for years."
Pi Pika
"Hey guys look over there." Brock suddenly points
They look ahead and notice a large crowd of people walking through the canyon. They're all carrying pickaxes or shovels
"I wonder what all those people are doing?" Ash says
"Don't you know anything?" Ash jumps at the voice. Everyone turns and sees Gary...who is dressed like Indiana Jones
"Gary!" Ash yells
"I'm not surprised that you're so clueless." Gary says
"Why are you dressed like that?" Alex asks confused
"Don't tell me you haven't heard about the Great Fossil Rush?" Gary asks in a mocking tone
"I haven't heard about it. You guys?" Ash asks and his friends shake their heads
"Gary Gary he's our man! If he can't find them no one can!" Gary's cheerleaders cheer
"Oh great they're back." Alex groans
"Yes it's so great!" Brock exclaims, "Hey girls remember me!"
"Hi Brock!" They reply
"They know my name." Brock practically melts
"I'm still confused." Ash says
"Of course you are. There are rumours that some ancient Pokemon fossils have been discovered around here." Gary explains, "So now everyone has come out to start excavating. Speaking of which I have to go before all the good fossils are gone. Can't waste my time on you losers."
Gary rushes off
"Losers!" Ash tries to chase after Gary but Alex and Misty grab him
"Easy Ash." Alex says
"That know-it-all! I'll show him! I'll find the best fossil and rub it in his face!" Ash says determined
"I don't feel right about digging up all those ancient fossils." Alex says, "They've been resting in the earth for so long."
"If they've been underground for thousands of years then maybe they'd like some fresh air." Misty suggests
"I think your brain needs some fresh air." Ash mumbles
"Who asked you!" Misty yells
Jigglypuff sees them arguing
Jiggly!
She hops onto a rock to perform but the gang have already walked away. She puffs up angrily
Puff!
Everyone has already started with the excavation. Gary swings his pickaxe against the ground a few times until he finds something
"A fossil!" He shouts excitedly. He bends down and picks up the very small fossil, "It looks like a brain."
"Yay!" His cheerleaders yell, "Gary Gary he's the best! He found a fossil before the rest! Go Gary!"
One of the experts takes the fossil from him and examines it
"Impressive isn't it?" Gary asks, "Found it on my first try"
"Yes this is impressive." The expert says and Gary smirks, "You found coprolite."
The smirk on Gary's face slips off immediately, "Wait you don't mean-"
"Yes fossilized manure."
"Yuck!" Gary yells, "You can keep it!"
"Eww!" His cheerleaders yell
Ash is sniggering nearby
"Hey Ash if you want to find a fossil you should probably get to work." Alex says
"Oh right yeah." Ash replies
Brock looks around at everyone digging, "There's a lot of people here. Yet no one has found any fossils yet. I wonder if this great fossil rush is really for real."
"Ofcourse it is." Ash says, "Come on let's go find some fossils so I can brag about it to Gary."
They start walking around the canyon trying to find a less crowded spot to dig
"What's taking dose two so long?" They hear someone talking. They look at a ledge nearby and see Meowth talking to himself
"Humans. The only thing you can depend on them for is that they're always undependable." Meowth says annoyed
Jessie and James suddenly pop up, "Tada!"
Jessie: Prepare for trouble!
James: And make it double!
Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all peoples within our nation!
"Yeah yeah. Have you planted the dynamite yet?" Meowth interrupts annoyed
"We were getting to that!" Jessie yells
"Yeah there's no need to be rude!" James yells
"In case you hadn't noticed we're in a rush!" Meowth yells, "We need to blast this canyon to smithereens before anyone makes off with the fossils!"
"Did you hear that! They're gonna blow up the canyon!" Misty yells
"All the people digging here are gonna get caught up in the blast." Brock says
"Misty Brock you guys go warn everyone! We'll try and stop Team Rocket!" Ash yells and him, Alex and Pikachu rush off
Meowth has pulled out a lighter and is preparing to light the fuse, "Pretty soon we'll have all those fossils to ourselves."
"Stop right there!" Ash yells causing Team Rocket to look up
"It's the twerps!" They yell
"We won't let you blow up the canyon!" Ash yells
"Oops." Meowth "accidentally" lights the fuse, "Too late."
The flame quickly heads towards the dynamite deep at the bottom of the canyon
"Ash we have to stop it. Send out Squirtle quick!" Alex yells
"Go Squirtle!"
Squirtle Squirtle
"Squirtle use Water Gun on that fuse!" Ash orders and Squirtle fires the Water Gun. However the flame is moving too quickly and Squirtle misses
"After it!" Ash yells and him, Alex,Squirtle and Pikachu chase after the flame as it goes further and further into the canyon
"We can't let them put out the fuse!" Meowth yells and him, Jessie and James give chase. James suddenly trips on a rock and falls forward slamming into Jessie who slams into Meowth. The three of them scream as they roll downwards and slam into Ash, Alex, Pikachu and Squirtle
"Ahhhh!" All of them crash into the ground mere feet away from the dynamite. The flame travels past them
"Ahh!" They scream
"Quick put it out!" Jessie yells
Squirtle however is buried underneath everyone else
"Run for it!" Alex yells
Everyone tries to get up to run but they're all tangled together. Pikachu manages to slip out of the heap and fires a Thunderbolt towards the dynamite...which immediately explodes as soon as the attack hits. The ground is ripped apart from the explosion and Ash, Alex, Pikachu and Team Rocket fall through a chasm
"Ahhhhh!"
The boulders on the side of the canyon collapse sealing up the chasm and trapping everyone underground. Squirtle is the only one lucky enough to avoid the chasm. He slowly crawls out from underneath the boulders and forces himself to his feet
Squirt...tle
He looks down at the sealed chasm
Squirtle!
He starts trying to move the rocks by himself but is too weak to do so. He turns and rushes off to find help
Ash, Alex, Pikachu and Team Rocket are in some kind of cave deep underground. They've all passed out. Eevee pops out of it's pokeball
Eevee? Eevee!
It rushes over and licks Alex's cheek. He groans and slowly opens his eyes, "Eevee?"
He rubs his head, "What happened?"
His eyes widen, "Ash!"
He hops to his feet and rushes over to Ash and Pikachu. He shakes Ash, "Ash wake up!"
Ash stirs, "Hmm where are we?"
Alex helps him to his feet. Eevee has woken up Pikachu while the Team Rocket trio have awoken as well
"We must be buried deep underground." Meowth says as he looks around
"Buried!" Jessie and James yell shocked. They turn towards Ash angrily, "This is all your fault twerp!"
"Yeah if you hadn't tried to put out that fuse we wouldn't be stuck down here!" Meowth yells
"Hey you're the crooks who planted all that dynamite up there in the first place!" Ash yells
Pikachu!
"What difference does it make!" Alex yells, "The point is we're stuck down here together. If we want to get back to the surface we're gonna have to work together."
"But how can we get back to the surface?" Jessie asks and points at the ceiling, "Our only exit route is blocked."
"Maybe one of our Pokemon can blow it open? I could use Gyara-" Alex is suggesting
"NO!" Team Rocket yell
"If you send that Gyarados out it's gonna target us." Meowth says terrified
Alex slumps over, "You're right. I'm a failure as a trainer..."
Eevee pats him comfortingly
James chuckles. Everyone looks over at him hopefully
"James it sounds like you have a plan." Jessie says
"Hmm. We're all doomed." James replies causing Jessie to hit him
"What kind of plan is that!"
"There must be someway out." Ash says, "These tunnels have to lead somewhere."
"Waltzing through these tunnels without knowing where we're going isn't exactly the brightest idea." Meowth points out
"Yeah you're right." Ash admits, "We'll probably just get more lost."
Pikachu's ears suddenly shoot up
Pikachu!
"What's the matter Pikachu?" Ash asks
Pikachu points towards the darkness. He is on high alert. Ash looks over and spots some red eyes watching them
"Guys..." Ash says alarmed. Everyone else notices the red eyes. Jessie and James hug each other terrified
"I don't think we're in here alone." Jessie says
Eight Pokemon emerge from the darkness. There are four different kinds, two of each
"What are they?" Ash asks nervously
"I've never seen those Pokemon before." Alex gulps as everyone starts backing away
"Quick check your Pokedex thingy." James says
Ash pulls out his Pokedex and scans the Pokemon
Omanyte and Omastar, Kabuto and Kabutops. It is believed these Pokemon became extinct tens of thousands of years ago. The details of their behaviour are shrouded in mystery. Though some have speculated that they may still exist, none of these Pokemon have ever been seen alive.
"Well I guess they have been seen now." Alex says
"Woohoo!" Jessie and James cheer
"We're going to be rich!" James yells
"Once we swipe all these extinct Pokemon we can open our own theme park and put them on display! We'll be so popular we'll rival Pokemon Land!" Jessie yells
"Those Pokemon don't seem as happy about this as you do." Ash points out nervously. Team Rocket look over and true enough all the Pokemon look furious
"Look at how red their eyes are." Alex points out
"They look like they just woke up." Meowth says
"Maybe these Pokemon weren't fossilized they were just sleeping." Jessie theorizes
"That must be it!" James yells, "The dynamite must have woken them up."
Everyone gulps as the realization hits them
"And they blame us." Ash says
The extinct Pokemon advance towards them
"We're gonna have to battle them." Ash says, "I choose Charmeleon!"
Ash tosses his pokeball and Charmeleon pops out
Charmeleon!
"Alright Charmeleon use Flamethrower!" Ash yells
Charmeleon scratches his face disinterested and lays down for a nap
"Aww it still won't listen to me." Ash says depressed
Alex pullls out Gyarados' pokeball, "Go Gya-"
Team Rocket suddenly grab onto him, "No!"
"Let go of me!" Alex yells as they fight over his pokeball
PIkachu fires a Thunderbolt towards one of the Kabutop but it uses it's scythes to slash the electricity away
Pika!
"Alright new plan. RUN!" Ash yells and everyone takes off running. The extinct Pokemon give chase
Meanwhile on the surface Squirtle has since found Brock and Misty and they explained the situation to Officer Jenny. She's examining the chasm
"The bulldozers aren't gonna make it down here." Jenny explains, "We're gonna have to dig by hand. I'll go get help."
Officer Jenny runs off. Brock and Misty glance at each other worried
"I don't know if we can wait much longer." Misty says
Brock grabs a pokeball, "Go Geodude!"
Geodude!
"Geodude I need you to start moving these rocks." Brock commands and Geodude nods. He flies over to the boulders and starts chucking them one by one. Brock, Misty and Squirtle start helping as well
"You guys better hold on." Misty mumbles to herself, "You still owe me a bike Ash."
The extinct Pokemon have managed to corner the group
"I think this is it." James says
The Pokemon rush towards them but stop in their tracks when a roar suddenly echoes throughout the cave
"Did you guys hear that?" Alex asks
"Yeah but what was it?" Jessie asks
"Look." Meowth points at the extinct Pokemon who have all of a sudden turned and made a beeline back into the depths of the cave
"They're running away?" Ash asks confused
"We survived!" Jessie and James hug each other
"But why?" Alex asks, "Whatever that roar was...it must have spooked them."
"And that can only mean..." Ash trails off
"Trouble." Team Rocket finish nervously
They hear the roar again. This time it sounds closer though. Charmeleon looks up curious
Char?
A Pokemon suddenly flies out from the depths of the cave. It smacks into Charmeleon knocking the Flame Pokemon to the ground
"Charmeleon!" Ash yells
This new Pokemon lands on a rock and stares down at them.
Aero!
"What...What is that?" Jessie stammers terrified
Ash pulls out his pokedex and scans it
Aerodactyl the Fossil Pokemon. A Rock/Flying type. A ferocious, prehistoric Pokemon that goes for the enemy's throat with its serrated saw-like fangs.
Aerodactyl opens it's mouth wide as if to show off it's sharp fangs
"I don't want those things around my throat!" James yells
Alex gulps as he watches the Aerodactyl's eyes, "Please tell me I'm just imagining this, but it looks like it's studying us."
"I think it wants to eat us." Meowth says terrified
"That must be why the others ran away." Jessie says terrified
Aerodactyl suddenly takes flight and swoops towards them
"Everyone look out!" Ash yells
Just before Aerodactyl attacks them it is suddenly hit by a Flamethrower which knocks it off course. Ash looks over and sees Charmeleon glaring at the Pokemon
"Charmeleon you saved us!" Ash yells
Charmeleon growls. The Aerodactyl does a loop in the air so it's flying towards Charmeleon. It slams into the flame Pokemon knocking him into a rock
Char!
"Careful Charmeleon!" Ash yells
Aerodactyl moves to bite Charmeleon
"Pikachu stop it!" Ash yells
Pikachu fires a Thunderbolt hitting Aerodactyl and causing it to roar in pain. It turns towards Ash and the others furiously
"Well that got it's attention." Alex says nervously
"I think we better run." Jessie says
They turn and start running as Aerodactyl flies towards them
"It's gaining on us!" James yells
"Pikachu try another Thunderbolt!" Ash yells
Pikachu stops and fires another Thunderbolt but this time Aerodactyl flies out of the way
Chu!
Pikachu continues running
"Ash!" They hear Brock's voice
"Brock!" Ash yells back confused
Alex glances up at the rocks above them, "Guys we're trapped down here!"
"We're trying to move the boulders!" They hear Misty yell back
"Please hurry!" Meowth yells
Aerodactyl suddenly swoops past them and grabs Ash with it's foot
Aero!
"Ahhhh!" Ash yells as the Aerodactyl carries him into the air
"Ash!" Alex yells
Pikapi!
Pikachu and Charmeleon both jump into the air and grab onto Aerodactyl's tail. A light suddenly shines into the cave as the rescue team have moved enough boulders to make an exit. Aerodactyl heads straight for it
"Don't leave us down here!" Jessie yells
Back on the surface the rescue team have backed up in case the ground gives way. Aerodactyl flies out of the hole
Aero!
"What is that!" Someone yells shocked
Pikachu and Charmeleon fall off of Aerodactyl's tail and land on the ground safely
"Pikachu! Charmeleon!" Misty, Brock and Squirtle rush over to them
Pikapi!
Pikachu points up at the Aerodactyl which still has Ash
"Ash!" Misty and Brock yell
"Someone get me down!" Ash yells terrified
Aerodactyl lands on a cliff nearby. Everyone stares up at it shocked and terrified
"It's an Aerodactyl!" Someone yells
"It can't be! Those things are extinct!" Gary yells
"Someone help me!" Ash yells
Meanwhile back in the cave Team Rocket are panicking
"We're gonna die down here!" They yell
"Calm down!" Alex yells, "We have our opening. Now we just need to get out. Go Porygon!"
Porygon beep boop
"Porygon can you fly us out of here?" Alex asks
Porygon nods. Alex grabs Eevee and hops onto Porygon's back
"Hurry up and get on!" Alex yells at Team Rocket who quickly comply
Porygon starts floating into the air but due to all the weight it's going quite slowly
Everyone is watching the Aerodactyl, either too terrified to move or just out of pure shock
"No one attack it!" Officer Jenny yells
"Attack it!" Ash yells back
"No Officer Jenny is right." Brock says worried, "If we attack it then it might hurt Ash."
"So what are we gonna do?" Misty asks concerned
Jigglypuff?
Jigglypuff has wandered over to see what all the commotion is about.
"It's Jigglypuff!" Brock shouts
"I have an idea." Misty says, "If we can get Jigglypuff to sing then it'll put that Aerodactyl to sleep."
Jigglypuff!
"Why is no one helping me!" Ash yells
Charmeleon glares at the Aerodactyl who seems to be taking a twisted delight out of everyone's helplessness
Me me Arrr!
Charmeleon lets out a Flamethrower in frustration
Aero!
Aerodactyl roars at Charmeleon who starts stomping the ground furiously
Char Char Charme-
Charmeleon suddenly starts glowing. Everyone watches shocked as Charmeleon grows taller. Wings sprout out of his back and when the glow has died down a Charizard stands in his place
Rarrrrrr!
Charizard lets out a powerful Flamethrower
"Woah!" Ash yells
"Amazing." Misty says surprised
"It evolved into Charizard." Brock agrees
Charizard spreads out his wings and takes flight. Aerodactyl's eyes widen as it sees Charizard flying directly towards it. It quickly takes flight, still clutching onto Ash, and tries to fly away. Charizard gives chase though.
"Charizard..." Ash starts tearing up, "You evolved to save me. I thought you didn't want me as your trainer but now I see I was wrong."
He wipes a tear from his eye
Charizard suddenly lets out a Flamethrower which Aerodactyl avoids. He lets out another one which hits Ash
"Ahhh!"
Ash sighs, "I was right...You only evolved so you could battle Aerodactyl."
Charizard continues firing attacks at Aerodactyl who is dodging them. However Aerodactyl's flying has gotten more erratic in it's attempts to avoid Charizard, and Ash keeps getting hit by the attacks
Pikapi!
"At this rate I don't know who's more dangerous to Ash." Brock says worried
"Jigglypuff quick sing for us!" Misty yells
Jigglypuff nods and raises it's marker to it's mouth like a microphone
Jigggglyyypuff Jigggllllllllly-ypuffffff Jigglypuff Jigg Jigglllllypuff
Everyone starts dozing off as Jigglypuff sings. Porygon finally rises from the hole and Alex, Eevee and Team Rocket hop off
"Finally we're..." Alex yawns, "Free..."
Him, Team Rocket, Eevee and Porygon all fall asleep
Aerodactyl and Charizard are still flying through the air. However Aerodactyl's eyes have gotten heavy
Ae...Aero...
"Stay awake Aerodactyl!" Ash yells, "If you fall asleep we'll both..."
Ash falls asleep before he can finish his sentence
Charizard is starting to get drowsy too. He shoves his claws into his ears to try and block out the sound
Rarr...
Aerodactyl's eyes close and it starts falling from the sky. It's grip on Ash releases and he plummets towards the ground. Charizard swoops forward and catches him
Rarrrr...(Got you...)
Charizard crashes into the ground and Ash rolls away from him and over towards an egg
Aerodactyl meanwhile slams into the ground next to the hole which causes all the boulders to fall back in and cover up the chasm once again. Aerodactyl slumps into the ground and it's tail taps a pokeball causing it to get sucked in
wiggle wiggle ping
Jigggll-
Jigglypuff notices everyone has fallen asleep. She puffs up angrily
Puff!
She pulls the lid off her microphone and gets to work scribbling on everyone's faces
Sometime later everyone has since awoken from Jigglypuff's song. Officer Jenny has barricaded the chasm and is now addressing the crowd
"Some of you are claiming that you saw a prehistoric Pokemon here in the canyon. That is ridiculous. Let me assure you that it was merely a dream brought on by Jigglypuff's song. I must also announce that due to the dangers of further cave collapses no more digging will be permitted." Officer Jenny announces
The crowd murmurs to themselves
"That sure didn't seem like a dream." Gary mutters to himself
"Gary dreams the best! Better than the rest! He sleeps the best from east to west!" His cheerleaders cheer
"I guess they're right." Gary says
The Pokegang chuckle to each other. Team Rocket meanwhile have snuck off
"Well it was touch and go for awhile but we escaped once again." Jessie says
"You have to admire our luck." James says
"Too bad it doesn't help us catch Pokemon." Meowth says
"Team Rocket's empty handed again." They sigh
The Pokegang are leaving Grampa Canyon
"Where did Jigglypuff go?" Ash asks
"Were you hoping for an encore?" Alex asks teasingly
"Well it atleast deserved to take a bow." Ash says, "Jigglypuff and Charizard really saved the day this time."
"That Aerodactyl is one of a kind. It's too bad you couldn't catch it Ash." Misty says
Ash lets out a nervous laugh, "I think I'm better off without it to be honest."
"I'd have liked to catch it." Alex says
"Oh yeah I forgot. When I woke up I found this." Ash pulls out the egg he rolled next to
"You got another egg?" Misty asks a little annoyed
"Are you sure it's alright to have just taken that?" Brock asks
"What do you mean?" Ash asks, "Do you think I should have left it with Officer Jenny?"
Brock takes the egg from Ash, "No no that's alright. I'll take care of it."
"What? No I found it!" Ash yells
"You probably would have dropped and broken it." Misty says
"No way! I've done a very good job of taking care of Dratini." Ash defends himself
"Why don't I take care of it?" Alex asks
Brock suddenly runs off down the path, "No I'll care for it!"
"Come back with my egg!" Ash chases after him
"You mean my egg!" Alex chases after him
"Hey I also want it!" Misty chases after them
Pikachu and Eevee just look at each other

They chase after them

And we're done. I really love Charizard's evolution. Something about it just gives me chills. And somebody caught themselves a new Aerodactyl. Who do you think it was? You'll only find out next chapter...probably
