"Whatever," he muttered, but he itched to keep going, now that his blood was beginning to roar in his ears. "But I still won't back down on the fact that the first choice is absolutely superior to the second."

"What? You're still saying that someone who hasn't shown any interest in him is better compared to the one who had least appeared to enjoy his brief company? You're crazy."

"I wouldn't be too sure, he sprang on her and demanded to be shown the way, despite her not knowing herself; the fact that she did means she probably just pitied him."

"She had no obligation but still helped him far beyond what was necessary! There's something there, however small!"

"No way, and even if that were true, no one sticks around on a relationship that starts off so meandering! I bet she barely thinks about him, let alone thinks he's good enough for dating."

Lucy snorted and put a hand to her cheek, scowling as she looked away and whispered. "Maybe I shouldn't even bother then if that's the case?"

Cobra felt himself go still as her words absorbed into his brain, feeling utterly slack-jawed for a response. His blood, which ran hot mere seconds ago, chilled in an instant. In one moment she went from being within his reach to a thousand miles away without having to move an inch. Before he could process the full extent of what he thought she meant, however, Lyon suddenly screeched.

"AUGH! YOU TWO ARE UNBELIEVABLE!"
