"Don't make that face at me."

Cobra's unamused expression caused Macbeth to click his tongue. As if this was Cobra's fault and not his. Leave it to Macbeth to blame him for being annoyed, when it was he who refused to explain what he was even supposedly doing until several days after he was doing it. The worst part was he just knew the reflector mage was doing this on purpose.

"If you don't stop looking at me like that, I won't say a word the rest of the way down."

"Shut up and talk."

Macbeth rolled his eyes. "It was almost too simple, really. Jellal asked where you were that first day you went in early. No one knew where you were, and normally it wouldn't be a big deal since we all just end up going to the guildhall. But if you were suddenly gone there, then people would have questions. So I suddenly 'remembered' that I heard you talking about going on patrols earlier and scouting in and around the city. Problem solved."

Cobra's frown grew more pronounced as Macbeth spoke. "They didn't find it suspicious at all that you just happened to know where I'd be and not ask me about it?"

"Jellal was surprised, certainly, but I simply added that you grew tired of the guildhall and said you wanted to do something more productive the rest of the week."
