Cobra stood flabbergasted at the accusation. How could she say that? She didn't really think he would endure all that hell just to get a peak into her mind…did she? By reflex, he started to listen to her thoughts, only for the glare on her face to snap him back to reality. She opened her mouth, then closed it instead and shook her head. "You just did it again, didn't you?"
Only because you wouldn't give me a straight answer anyway, Cobra thought bitterly. The fact that he had done exactly what she said instead of answering normally made his complaint feel rather thin. Still, the want to argue and fight welled up inside him, and he could feel himself get more and more angry as she continued staring at him. A part of him longed for them to continue going at it, just so that he could finally vent out everything he'd been feeling the past week, matching her taunt for taunt. Then, they could be free of any obligations standing between them as they ripped into each other.
Just as he was about to spark the next round, Lucy's eyes slid off him and into the distance beyond. "I can still catch her if I'm quick," she said and began to move forward, taking a long step to the side of him.
The anger drained away in an instant, to be replaced with a familiar emotion: fear.
"Wait. Lucy, wait!"
