Cobra straightened his rumpled jacket, avoiding eye contact with either of them. Mirajane questioned him again, "Cobra, where is Lucy? Did you two split up?"
"Yeah, you could say that," he mumbled. A little louder he said, "She's fine. She just took off, so I let her. I'm heading over there." He gestured vaguely and started walking away again. If Macbeth tried to pull him back again he was going to give him a hard yank of his own.
Instead, he heard running feet behind him, and he tensed. Just before they reached him he whirled around and snarled. "Would you just leave me alone-" Cobra's breath cut off before he could punctuate the sentence. The demon was standing not two feet from him, her deep blue eyes staring at him. It was the sort of look that made him feel like he was drowning on land.
"Look, I just want to know that she's alright. You don't look too good, did something happen?" He fought to keep the hiss from escaping his mouth. Did this damn woman have to always be so nosy?
"Like you said, she's not that fragile. She'll be just fine whether or not I'm there. She has been before. Keep out of it."
Mirajane's mouth fell open at the biting remark. Cobra cursed upon realizing what his brazen tongue might imply that he wanted to keep under wraps. But before he could attempt to soften the blow, the air began to warp, and not from Macbeth's magic. No, the woman standing in front of him began to exude an unbearably intense presence.
A/N: Not the most dramatic chapter for a 200th one to be, but thank you all for 200 chapters nonetheless!
