"I know what I said before and I stand by it. However…" Mirajane took a step forward. Cobra was surprised the ground didn't crack into a million pieces from pressure. "…that doesn't mean I didn't think it wouldn't be better if you were with her. Tell me what happened. You're not the type of person that would just abandon her for no reason."

Something inside Cobra darkened at the last sentence, so despite the feeling that he was entering the dragon's den, he didn't blink as he stared at Mirajane. "And just how do you always seem to know what kind of person I am? I don't remember sharing my psyche with you. In fact, I don't remember sharing a lot of things you seem to know quite well."

For a moment, the cold gaze in the demon's eyes softened. "That's right, you didn't tell me directly," she said. "But even if I hadn't known, I would have been able to tell from how you accepted this job. At least towards her. Cobra…" her eyes narrowed, and it felt like she was about to cry. "Surely I don't have to spell it out for you, do I?"

Cobra sneered. "Don't make me laugh. That little love brain-rot attitude of yours has always made me sick. Stop projecting your weird fantasies onto other people."

The softness in her eyes vanished, replaced with a steely look. "If you hurt her, just know that there isn't a prison on Earthland that won't look like heaven after I'm done with you." She turned away from him. "I can't deal with you if you won't even see what's right in front of you."

Cobra broke out into a cold sweat at the demon's declaration. He backed away a foot, then two, then he ran for what felt like his life. The last thing he heard before he mentally closed his ears was the muffled cries of someone weeping.
