Jewel was carried in her cage out of the plane. She looked around her at the snow covered land, with little green in sight. She shivered in the cold and ruffled her feathers trying to conserve heat. They carried her cage down various streets and into a large sleek looking building.

The hallways were all uniformly painted, with a white tiled floor and greyish blue walls. Jewel was taken into a room full of various birds, all squawking and in their respective cages. The humans placed her cage down and walked out of the room

The noise and the cries of the other birds was deafening, preventing Jewel from thinking straight. She looked around at the cold soulless room and was once again struck by the feeling of welling anger and fear. Her thoughts flashed with images of her imprisonment, of the bird smuggler's shed and of the smuggler's plane. she tried to reason with herself, she was in no danger, the people here are going to help her, there is no reason to escape, but her rational thoughts were drowned in a sea of emotion. Just as she was backing up, ready to ram the cage wall, she heard a loud…

THUD

All of the kerfuffle in the cage room abruptly halted.

THUD

"What was that!?" Jewel said

Suddenly the door burst open and the silhouette of a bulldog appeared at the door. The dog bounded into the room barking loudly and dripping slobber from its mouth. It ran directly towards Jewel's cage causing her to plaster herself against the back of the cage. The dog held its face right up against the bars of the cage and then his face was finally visible.

"Luiz?" Jewel said, looking in astonishment and the jolly face of the bulldog.

"Hey…" Luiz replied scepticaly, tilting his head so his eyes were right up against the mesh ,"how does yous know my name?"

"It's me," Jewel replied ,"Jewel."

"Oh yea," Luiz recalled,"I remember you, you're the mean one who's also blue but not a blue as Blu who was blue-er."

"How the heck did you get her Luiz?" Jewel asked ,"I saw you in Rio only like two days ago."

"Ah well," Luiz started, leaning backwards and looking upwards dreamily ,"after I had finished dancing on the top of the massive float I…"

"Wait wait wait," Jewel interjected, holding up her wing to slow down the dog ,"you did what?"

"Didn't you see me?" Luiz asked ,"I went like this."

Luiz turned around and began to do his little dance, humming the Carnaval music as he shook his head and bottom to the non existent beat

"No," Jewel replied sternly ,"I was too busy being kidnapped. Look, I really need your help right now, can you help me get out of this cage?"

"How come?" Luiz asked ,"this place is for helping animals right? And by the look of your wing, you kind of need help."

"I don't care!" Jewel cried hysterically, reaching through the bars to grab Luiz's collar but hte dog was just out of reach ,"just get me out of here."

"Man, you's is just as mean as I remember." Luiz replied.

"Ok, I'm sorry I'm mean," Jewel apologised, her voice thick with sarcasm, "now will you help me escape or what?"

Without warning, Luiz lunged at the cage, biting down on the metal bars, and tearing the entire front of the cage stared wide eyed at Luiz; stunned with shock.

"Nice work," Jewel said shakily, stepping out the cage

"Hop on my back," Luiz offered ,"we're going to ride outta here!"

Jewel hopped onto the dog's back, grabbing his collar with her talon to keep balance.

Luiz dashed out of the door barking and howling like mad. They skidded round a corner past two vets. One of them promptly pulled out their phones and dialled a number.

"I would like to report an animal escape," the vet said into the phone, "the incredibly rare macaw from brazil has escaped and seems to be riding a recently missing bulldog who was in for that checkup."

On the other side of the line, people were issuing orders.

"Block all exits," an executive ordered, "we have to recapture that bird."

Luiz bounded down the hallway at top speed.

"Take a left here!" Jewel cried, "we're close to the exit."

Luiz scrambled around the tight turn, skidding across the tiled floor like a racecar Once they turned the corner, they saw a row of humans blocking the doorway.

"What now?" Luiz asked looking at the looming forms of the humans by the door.

"Full speed ahead!" Jewel commanded.

Luiz picked up the pace, charging straight for them.

"Now bear your teeth and bark!"

Luiz did as he was told. All of the people that lined the door started to get antsy. They looked at Luiz who was barking and charging at them with what looked like a purpose to kill and all of them collectively agreed that they were not being paid enough to stop that dog.

They all stepped aside, allowing the two to be able to charge out of the building and into the town.
