Jewel woke up and yawned loudly. She jumped down from the chair, wincing on impact from the pain in her wing and that waddled over to the corner of the room where she saw Luiz sleeping.
Wait a minute...
A chair, a room, a pillow. This was a human house!
"Luiz!" she hissed, nudging him to wake up, "what the heck are we doing in a human house!"
"Well," Luiz said sleepily, "it's soft and warm in here and cold and hard out there."
"No!" Jewel said sternly, grabbing luiz by the foot and somehow dragging him out of the shop, "I will not let myself fall victim to the temptations of human stuff. My father always taught me that humans are evil creatures and should not be trusted."
"Well why do I have to be a part of it?" Luiz asked tiredly as Jewel dragged him across the street, "Also, didn't that other blue bird you were chained to live with humans for like, a million years and he's fine."
"That's besides the point," Jewel dismissed, "I still don't really trust those two humans he seems to like. One moment they're all like "Oh wE arE TO helP yOU," and then the next they shove you in a flying metal box of pain and send to to the wrong side of the globe in Tiny Soda.''
Jewel marched confidently into the woods and looked around.
"Ok," she said to herself,"first step, find some water."
She looked down at the snow and watched how it melted into water when her feet touched it. She bent down and took a bite of the snow, waiting for it to melt in her mouth and then swallowing it.
"W-w-well th-thats w-w-w-water s-sorted," she said, her beak chattering from the cold, "n-next step, Foo-ood."
She continued to walk through the frozen forest until she found a lone pinecone. She pecked at it and ripped off parts until she was able to see a lone pine-nut in one of the crevasses. She picked up the pinecone and shook it until the blackened and shrivelled pine nut fell out onto the dirt.
"You know," Luiz reminded ,"there's actual food and water in the human place."
"Pffft," Jewel replied, "I'm perfectly fine out here in the wilderness. Even if that wilderness is cold and empty and far away from home"
At that moment, a glob of snow fell from the trees above and landed on top of jewel
"Fine! Let's go to the human town"
