"The Mysterious Intruder"

It was 1am, and not a peep could be heard all over Nevermore Academy as all the student body and faculty was sound asleep. All but one Wednesday Addams. She was in the balcony of the room she had occupied since she first arrived to the school around two decades ago, a room she shared with her room mate, now wife Enid. As a member of the faculty, Wednesday could have asked for better accommodations than a simply a refurbished student dorm. However, Enid wanted to relish in nostalgia by having their room on campus be their original dorm they had when they first met. For Wednesday though, the decision to return to her old form was strategic. The balcony of this particular room had a perfect view of the school's main entrance, the garden, and the forest that was beyond the walls of the school's property... and the forest is what had become her interest for the past two days.

It all began when Wednesday had not one, but two different visions in the span of two hours. Different in content but connected in their core. The goth girl closed her eyes and remembered them as she felt drops of rain hit her face. In the first vision, she was standing in a cemetery, she was beside a tomb, it was raining and it was night, and on the tombstone it read: "Enid Sinclair Addams - Daughter, Mother and Wife". In the second vision, she saw her wife Enid laying before her with blood pouring out of her chest, while Enid's face looked lifeless. The first vision was one Wednesday didn't fear. It did indeed showed Enid's future tomb stone; but there was no evidence showing at which point in the future this vision was supposed to take place. However in the second vision... Enid clearly was around the same age she was right now. It was that vision that had had preoccupied Wednesday's mind for days now. Could that second vision mean that she was to fail in protecting Enid, thus allowing her to die and bring about the first vision sooner than later? And why did she feel that the answer lay in the forest? Those questions demanded answers and she was hell bent on finding them.

The following morning Wednesday did something unusual... she decided to have breakfast at the popular school restaurant with the student body. She always preferred to eat in her room, to be alone and in peace... yet something told her she had to be there... and she was soon to learn why. As she ate, two students walked by, and what she quickly heard made her raise an eyebrow.

"…a whole chicken I tell you… simply disappeared from the kitchen…"

"I heard a whole pie was stolen a week ago…"

That triggered many alarms inside of her. For one, the fact that someone or something was able to enter the school grounds, enter the kitchen and steal food without detection was inconceivable, especially considering the fact that they made it past Wednesday's advanced security precautions she had created since her employment at Nevermore Academy began. More importantly though: who could say if this, whatever it was, could be related to her visions and the danger that loomed over her wife. Her thoughts were cut short when her blonde soul mate sat before her.

"This is a surprise. Ana texted me, saying that she saw you were eating here today without either of us having to drag you in here. But I thought she was lying. Is it possible that my roomy-gloomy is becoming more friendly with the students and her fellow staff finally?"

Wednesday glared at her wife with her usual deadpan expression.

"Hardly. I just wanted try subjecting myself to a little torture this morning."

Enid smirked as she said, "Whatever you say. Anyway, I have to go help the administrators go over the files of the new students that will join the school next semester. See you later Wens-babe."

Taking her coffee, Enid got up and walked out of the cafeteria along with a group of students that she had bonded with over the previous semester (something that Wednesday typically avoided doing). The rest of the day went by without incident, and after her daily self defense class she taught was over: Wednesday decided to go check the forest. She walked for a few minutes and nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. Then suddenly, Wednesday noticed at the foot of a huge tree were the bones of a chicken. But there was something else. The chicken bones were clean and in a pile under some leaves... as if someone had eaten them and failed at trying to hide them from plain sight. Taking one of the bones, Wednesday studied it for several moments.

"This was not consumed by an animal…"

She tried to look around but there was no trace of anyone or anything that would prove that a living person was living around or on one of the trees. More so, the trees in that forest did not have branches that one could easily reach or climb up. She sat against a tree to think. Nothing made sense. She had spent the previous night reading all she could about the forest and its inhabitants in the secret school library, and although she had found extensive information on a variety of strange creatures, none of them had been spotted for years past. It was almost midnight when she decided to walk back to the school. As she entered her room she found her wife sitting on her bed, looking severely at her.

"And where were you?" - she asked.

Wednesday glared at her.

"Running an errand."

"Where?"

"I was at the library."

Enid got up and walked towards her and pulled a small branch stuck to one of her braids.

"I didn't know the library was in the forest now."

The goth woman remained silent, causing Enid to look more worried as she continued to speak.

"What were you doing in the forest all alone Wednesday? I saw you coming back to the school when I was looking outside just now."

"Enid, I simply needed peace and quiet to think."

Enid began to look very upset as she said, "Wednesday, we've been married for nearly twenty years now. I can tell by this point when you're lying to me. You wanna try that again?"

Wednesday wanted to respond... but all she could do was stand still and without emotion. She didn't want to say another lie to her wife... but she didn't wish to speak the truth either.

"Well if you want to keep secrets, that's fine with me." - an upset Enid said as walked over to her nearby closet, so she could get changed for bed.

Wednesday glared at Enid as she walked away, and closed her eyes wondering if she was doing the right thing by keeping her latest visions a secret from her wife. Trying to find an answer, she went to the balcony and felt the cold air of the night on her face.

"Who are you? And where are you?"

She was startled when she heard a voice behind her.

"Who is who?"

Wednesday turned to see Enid in her night gown stepping towards her. Wednesday now turned away from her wife as she responded.

"Nothing. It's nothing Enid. You should be resting. It's past midnight."

However, Enid now looked more determined as she stepped closer to Wednesday.

"I want the truth Wednesday Addams. And I want it now. What is going on?"

Wednesday glared at her wife for several seconds... and then finally spoke.

"I had a vision recently." she said coldly.

"And what was the vision about?" - Enid asked.

Wednesday turned to face Enid again. She looked like she was ready to speak... but instead Wednesday walked past her wife, went to her closet, changed for bed, and then laid down on the mattress. Enid hesitantly got into bed beside Wednesday wanting to look at her. However, Wednesday had already turned herself on her side, facing away from Enid. Enid however made a little smile as she tried to speak her final words to her wife before they fell asleep.

"I love you Wednesday." - Enid said.

Wednesday however simply remained still with a troubled look in her eyes as she simply said, "And your existence is of equal value to me."

The following morning, Wednesday walked through the halls of the school as she again heard students talking about food being stolen from the kitchen and shadows seen walking the halls in the middle of the night.

"This has to end…" - Wednesday said to herself.

That night she retorted again to her research in the secret library, yet she once again found herself unable to find anything on whatever could be lurking in the forest. The only thing that grew was her frustration. At 2am she decided to go back to her room. As a teenager she was able to get by on three hours of sleep per night, but in her older age: she now found herself needing four hours; a fact that frustrated her very much. But as she walked through the halls back to her bedroom where Enid was, a noise caught her attention. It came from a hall leading to the kitchen. She ran to it, believing it was the mysterious invader once again. As she walked in, she noticed that one of the pantries was open. As she ran out, she heard someone going through the garden. As she turned to get to the main entrance, she saw a shadow jumping over the wall. With great agility she followed suit. She ran into the forest for several minutes until she reached a clearing. Her patience running short.

"I KNOW YOU'RE HERE! SHOW YOURSELF!"

For several moments nothing happened. Not even the chirp of a bird. Upset, Wednesday turned back and made her way to Nevermore. As she walked through the halls, she saw Enid walking towards her.

"I want to talk to you. " She said with a very upset tone.

"I must get rest. " replied Wednesday.

But her blonde wife blocked her path.

"I want to talk to you NOW!"

Wednesday glared at her and realized she was genuinely upset.

"Let's go to our room... so no students have to hear this.

Moments later, both women were in front of each other in their shared room as an upset Enid was speaking.

"I can understand that you like do your little hobbies alone. I've accepted that... but I thought once we got married you wouldn't treat me like a little accessory anymore. However these last few nights, you barely look at me or talk to me now. You're just completely absorbed in... something now. Plus, when I see you far away and wave, you just have this weird new thing you do where you just run off before we can have any sort of exchange."

"What is that supposed to mean?" - Wednesday asked.

Enid replied by saying, "Well, like last night. I was about to enter the court yard. I saw you far away by the fountain. I called out to you, and then you ran away super fast before we could even make eye contact."

That last statement baffled Wednesday.

"Enid... when you saw me, did you see this scar on my hand?" Wednesday said showing her a cut on the back of her left hand. Enid looked puzzled as she responded.

"I… I don't know… maybe. You were too far away to notice. Why do you ask?"

"I hurt my hand while sharpening my swords a few days ago."

Wednesday walked to her desk and opened a drawer. From it she extracted a pin with the letter A in gold with emeralds on it. Wednesday then looked directly at Enid as she spoke.

"I'm going to wear this pin at all times. If you see me and I don't have it, go to the underground library at once and stay there."

"Wait, what's going on Wednesday?"

"That's what I'm going to find out."

That night Wednesday decided not to go to the library, but instead she went to the balcony and stood there watching the main entrance of the school. The entire school was very peaceful, and Wednesday was about ready to call it a night... when suddenly she saw a figure moving over the wall. With incredible agility, Wednesday lowered herself down a rope attached to the balcony and landed right in front of the figure. The figure was wearing a mask, but clearly had the body of a teenage girl; especially given her body figure and the black dress she was wearing. Wednesday then pulled out from a concealed location: a sharp sword as she spoke directly to the intruder.

"You have intruded on the grounds of Nevermore Academy. Come with me now where I will take you to face the proper authorities... or you can choose the darker fate of facing me."

The masked intruder suddenly had sharp wolf like claws come from her hand, and immediately lunged a Wednesday with her claws out. Wednesday immediately blocked the sharp claws with her sword; sharp claw against sharp blade, neither breaking the other. However, when their bodies became close, Wednesday used her left hand to reach and grab the mask of the intruder. The female intruder jumped back just as Wednesday pulled off the mask. With the mask pulled off, Wednesday suddenly saw the young female figure she was facing was a teenage girl that had a face nearly identical to hers. There were many small differences Wednesday could identify... but it was very apparent... this young girl before Wednesday was someone that looked very similar to herself when she was younger.

"Who are you and why have you chosen to look like me?" - Wednesday directly asked.

The mysterious girl that looked similar to Wednesday smirked, and Wednesday could now see a red brightness in her eyes as she spoke.

"I don't look like you. I am you... or better put... a better you… and believe me… I'll enjoy carving you up… "

Wednesday's eyes opened wide as her look alike opponent jumped at her growling. Quickly, a fierce battle began. The mysterious girl, with the same sharp claws that matched her eyes, swiped at Wednesday with surprising speed. However, Wednesday was not one to be outdone. Years of martial arts and combat training had made her reflexes lightning fast, and she parried the attack with a swift arc of her sword. The sound of steel against claw echoed through the night air, leaving sparks flying like stars in the night sky. The mysterious girl twisted and turned, using the trees of the outdoor location for cover as she jumped onto them. She leaped from branch to branch with an ease that belied her inhuman abilities. Each time she launched herself at Wednesday, she was met with the cold steel of the sword that her twin wielded with precision.

The clanging of steel on steel grew faster as the two danced around each other. The leaves of the trees whispered in the background, the only audience to the deadly ballet that unfolded beneath their branches. Wednesday quickly noticed something odd about the way her opponent moved. It was as if she knew exactly where she was going to strike before she did. Each time she swung her sword, the girl would be just out of reach, her movements eerily mirroring the goth woman's own. Their movements grew more intense, their breathing more ragged. Each strike was calculated, each dodge a testament to their shared instincts. The air was thick with tension as the two locked eyes, both knowing that the next move would decide the outcome of the fight. The mysterious girl soon lunged forward, her claws aiming straight for Wednesday's heart, but the goth woman was ready as she made a very deadly swing at her attacker...

Meanwhile there was nothing but silence in the bedroom of Wednesday and Enid's shared living space. Enid looked out at the moon through the nearby window as she softly said aloud, "I know Wednesday still likes to do stuff on her own... but God... please continue to stick close to her."

Suddenly there was a loud sound of banging and shrieking. Enid immediately recognized the voice of who was shrieking.

"Wednesday!" - Enid screamed as she literally jumped out the window of her bedroom. Enid immediately had one of her hands turned into wolf claws, and she used the sharp claws of her hand to help build friction on the walls of the school as she fell, allowing her to reach the ground unharmed. Immediately, Enid saw Wednesday laying on the ground looking bruised, with multiple cuts and scrapes on her body. A panicked Enid held Wednesday up as she had fear and tears in her eyes.

"Please, please, please don't be dead." - Enid said as she looked like she was about to cry. But then suddenly Wednesday slowly opened her eyes and spoke to Enid.

"You do realize revolving your entire emotional state around the physical well being of just one person is a sign of great weakness, do you not?"

Enid suddenly made a happy smile as she lifted Wednesday's body up and hugged it tightly. Wednesday remained still for a moment... and then she hugged Enid back.

Several minutes later, an injured Wednesday was limping towards the woods. Enid meanwhile was closely following Wednesday as she spoke to her.

"Wednesday, you need rest. Lets get back to the school, so you can tell me what happened to you."

"I don't need rest to explain what happened to me minutes ago Enid."

"Okay. Then tell me what happened? Who attacked you?"

"Me." - Wednesday said with a cold tone that had just the slightest hint of fear in it.

"You? What do you mean you Wednesday?"

"My attacker... was someone that looked just like me when I was younger."

"Hold on Wednesday! You mean we're facing a dark alternate universe version of yourself again! Oh God, no. The last time this happened we experienced an adventure that got way too psychologically dark for too many people's taste. I don't think we could go through an adventure like that one more time!"

"Enid, calm yourself. You sound like a whimpering puppy. However, if you must know... the person that attacked me... she looked like me, but I don't think she was me from some other reality. She shared my face and some of my skills... but I know she wasn't me."

"Okay... but where did she go?"

"That's what I'm trying to figure out Enid."

"Okay, okay. So... she obviously hurt you... but how did you make her leave without killing you?"

"Simple Enid. I made her run off in pain after I cut off one of her fingers."

"You did what Wednesday!?"

Suddenly Wednesday stopped, and picked up a something from the ground that looked like a finger.

"Oh, gross..." - Enid said as she tried to turn away. However Wednesday felt the severed finger as she held it towards Enid.

"You needn't get as squeamish as you typically get in these type of situations. This finger isn't made of flesh Enid... but rather some type of metal made to simulate it."

"Say what?! Then... this girl who attacked you Wednesday... she's definitely not some perfect duplicate of yours."

"Indeed... but she still has much of my skills though, and that makes her dangerous."

Wednesday and Enid then paused as they began to think for a moment... and then Enid suddenly broke the silence as a worrisome thought entered her mind.

"Hold on. Wednesday... even if this girl isn't technically you, she's still a lot like you. So... what if she knows a ton about you... including members of our family?"

Suddenly, a growing look of fear entered Wednesday's eyes as she immediately began moving towards back to the school as she spoke.

"Enid, call Harmony and tell her to not be alone at any time. Even though she no longer attends school here, we cannot assume she is safe. As for Ana... we need to get to her as soon as possible."

Several hours later, Wednesday and Enid were sitting in front of Ana in her dorm room. As Ana's cat was sitting in her lap, a confused looking Ana said, "So let me get this straight. You're saying you were attacked by a girl who looks like you that isn't a dark alternate universe version of yourself, but still is a lot like you, and now you're worried she's gonna go after me to hurt you. Did I get that right?"

Wednesday kept a calm deadpan face as she said, "Indeed. However, this girl, whoever she is, can't have just come out of nowhere. Other individuals could be working with her. Until we find out what my attacker is and where they came from, you must remain in this building at all times indefinitely."

Ana quickly yelled, "What!? But I was gonna go bring down international cartels with Gerard tonight! Come on! It's our one month anniversary!"

Wednesday however made an angry glare as she said, "You are staying in this building until I say so my child, and don't test my patience!"

Ana suddenly had a look of fear go across her face... but then sighed as she said, "Fine. Thanks for spoiling my perfect date plans."

Enid made a small smile as she said, "It's just to keep you safe Ana."

Then Wednesday and Enid left Ana's room. Ana meanwhile made a sad sigh as she laid down on her bed. Suddenly though, Ana's cat jumped over to a nearby window.

"What are you going Stormageddon the Conqueror?" - Ana asked.

Ana's cat responded by making a simple meowing noise.

Suddenly Ana looked angry as she said, "What do you mean just because I'm grounded, you can go have fun on your own!?"

Ana's cat made a happy meowing noise as he jumped out the window and onto a nearby tree branch.

Ana then ran over to the window as she said, "You are a traitor Stormagedon the Conqueror, and I will never forgive you... unless you come back with some pizza flavored Chex Mix."

Then Ana heard her cat in the distance make a loud meowing noise.

A happy Ana then jumped up in the air as she yelled, "Woohoo! I'm getting free snacks tomorrow!"

Wednesday and Enid were walking down the hallway of the Ophelia Hall dorm as a concerned Wednesday said, "We may need to put all of the students in lock down Enid. This look alike girl that attacked me could be doing anything, and they could be anywhere."

Then suddenly Wednesday and Enid opened the door to their room... only to see Wednesday's look alike attacker laying on their bed looking beat up and bloody.

"Or she could be right here." - Enid quickly said with surprise on her face.

Anger entered Wednesday's face as she took out a sword and pointed it at the mysterious girl that looked like her.

"Tell us who you are and what are you doing here!"

"And also tell us if you need a pad or a tampon." - Enid politely said.

Wednesday then made an angry glare at Enid, while Enid simply said, "What. We're all girls still, and we need to make sure our needs are taken care of."

The mysterious girl, speaking in a weak voice, looked at Wednesday as she said, "Does your wife always act this caring about other people?"

Wednesday paused for a moment... and then said, "It is her greatest weakness, but my greatest strength; so I allow it. Now... tell me your name, why you are here, and why you attacked me."

The mysterious girl that looked like Wednesday slowly sat up as she said, "Well, to answer your first question, the people who created me named me Laura. As for the other two questions... to put it simple... I came here to kill you, and any member of your family I came across."

Suddenly, anger entered Wednesday's eyes as she heard the mysterious girl: Laura make such a bold statement so casually. The memory of her vision of Enid dying came back to the forefront of her mind, as her face filled with rage.

"I will make you wish you never crossed me." - Wednesday said as she pointed her sword forward and began to move towards Laura.

"Wednesday, stop, she's helpless right now!" - Enid pleaded.

As a weakened Laura stood up, she looked worried as she said, "Stop it. Whenever I'm attacked, my conditioned programming kicks in."

Not listening, Wednesday immediately put her sword at Laura's neck.

"I'll rip your heart out… and make you look at it with your last breath…"

"Stop attacking me. I'm losing control..." Laura said as her head began to shake. Then suddenly, a primal animal look entered Laura's eyes. Then Laura immediately pushed Wednesday off of her, grabbed Wednesday's sword, and then threw it... right into Enid's chest.

Wednesday was immediately petrified with wide eyes as she saw her sword was inside her wife, as a red stain began to grow in her abdomen. Wednesday rushed over to Enid, and quickly pulled the sword out, while at the same she was quick to catch her wife's body that fell limp in her arms.

"Enid, don't do this to me. Wake up, WAKE UP!" - Wednesday screamed. She was so petrified as her traumatic vision was now becoming a traumatic reality; the love of her life, her soul mate, the fellow mother to her children... was now dead before her. Wednesday could barely handle what she had just witnessed. This couldn't be really happening. It had to be some sort of trick... but all Wednesday could think of now was all the primal rage building up inside her. Then without even thinking, Wednesday found herself shoving Laura into a nearby wall, with her hands at Laura's throat as she spoke.

"You did this… you brought this pain upon me… now I will make you wish you never came across me!"

Suddenly, Laura's eyes looked more normal again as she said, "Wednesday, look at your wife!"

"Stop trying to rub your victory in my face!"

"Wednesday, look at her right now and see what's happening!" - Laura yelled.

Wednesday then turned her head, and her eyes widened as she saw the body of Enid quickly turning into sand. Confusion and anger went across Wednesday's face as she looked at Laura.

"That wasn't your wife..." Laura explained, "That was a clone of Enid that had been planted here a short time ago. One of the better clones made by my creators since it clearly fooled you... and I would know, because I'm a clone too. A clone of you. Now if you want me to help you retrieve your real wife who is still very much alive, you'll stop what you're doing and listen to me."

Wednesday hesitated for a moment... and then backed away, her hands letting go of Laura as she said, "We obviously have much to discuss."

"We certainly do." - Laura said.

Minutes later, Wednesday and Laura were standing on the nearby balcony looking out at Nevermore Academy as the night sky began to cover it. Wednesday stood glaring at Laura while her arms were folded.

As Laura looked directly at Wednesday, she said, "I don't know the names of the people who created me. They were smart enough to keep that a secret from me. All I remember was growing up in some laboratory. They were able to make me grow up at twice the speed of a normal person; but I still essentially spent a childhood growing up in a jail cell being constantly experimented on. The one thing that kept me from going insane was when I would think back on some of the memories of yours I inherited in the cloning process."

Wednesday made an uneasy glare as she said, "How did these people get my DNA? More importantly, how many of my memories did you inherit?"

Laura looked up towards the moon as she said, "I heard my creators remark about taking a blood sample you once gave to Sherriff Gaplin at some point in the past. As for the amount of memories I got from you... not much. My creators said typically they're able to duplicate all memories in their subjects, but somehow your psychic abilities prevented that. I remember bits and pieces of your family though, along with Enid... and Nero. However the one thing I did gain was your skills. Your fighting abilities, and all your combat experience: that I definitely got."

Wednesday then stepped towards Laura as she asked, "Why create a clone then? Who is trying attack me?"

Laura sighed, and then said, "Again, I don't know who created me. However, from what I can piece together: you clearly got some powerful enemies Wednesday. The people that created me clearly want you dead, and they thought only a clone of you could do it. They even spliced my body with werewolf DNA mixed with metal claws, just so I could get the upper hand on you."

Wednesday then squinted her eyes as she asked, "Why are you not attacking me now?"

Laura looked ashamed as she said, "I've been conditioned to obey these crazy orders that have been programmed into my DNA. Whenever I'm attacked, or my creators speak this stupid code: I just turn in some crazy evil villain. It only lasts for seconds whenever I'm attacked, but it goes on for hours when my creators speak their stupid code. It was the same thing with the clone they made of Enid. That clone wasn't perfect though. It was a rushed clone that may have been perfect in terms of having a duplicate mind and body, but those cheap clones fall apart and turn into sand at just the slightest puncture wound. Still, it was supposed to gather info on you, and then was supposed to totally turn on you when she too would've heard my creators speak that stupid code to her. It's sort of like how the Winter Soldier was manipulated in the MCU movies."

Wednesday raised one eyebrow as she said, "Winter soldier?"

Laura had a matter of fact look on her face as she said, "Yeah. Ever seen a Marvel movie? I mean my creators obviously had, considering that kind of stuff is all they watched during their lunch breaks when they weren't experimenting on me. Why do you think they named me Laura and gave me claws? You ever read the X-men comics, or seen Logan? My creators literally were inspired by that stuff when they created me."

Wednesday rolled her eyes as she said, "Where your creators turn to for horrific inspiration is of little interest to me. What I need to know now is: where is my wife?"

Laura took a deep breath, and then said, "At the laboratory I was created at. She's being kept alive there in case my creators want to make another clone of her at some point. However, I'm hesitant to go back; because this is the longest I've been thinking clearly since I've been out of the lab. If I go back, I'm worried I may never be able to escape again. Also... if we wind up getting into a fight... I could lose my mind and attack you."

Wednesday then marched herself right in front of Laura as she said, "If you have any memory that I hold of Enid in your mind, you won't care about that, and will do everything it takes to help me get her back."

Laura stood silent for a moment... and then smirked as she said, "Yeah... you're right."

A short time later: both Laura and Wednesday walked through the forest. It didn't take long for them to get to a hidden cave. Laura led Wednesday to a tunnel that was hidden from plain view. Wednesday felt shaken to her core, as she could not believe such a thing had been there under her nose and she had never realized it. Suddenly she saw Laura jump down from a cliff. Showing her own agility, she jumped after her and was soon amazed to find herself in a huge room with tons of scientific equipment in it. There were no other people in the room, but plenty of signs around the room suggested that many people had been here recently. Suddenly, Wednesday spotted Enid inside a huge crystal tube, with a mask covering her mouth and nose as she was peacefully floating.

"ENID!" - Wednesday yelled.

She was about to go see how to get her out when suddenly a bright spotlight appeared in the room, as a distorted voice could be heard over the speakers saying, "Plumb pudding in Poland!"

Suddenly, Laura stopped moving. Wednesday looked back at her as she asked, "Why are you not moving?"

"They've activated the command that stops me from moving." Laura said, "They're toying with you Wednesday. They're one command away from turning me into a killing machine that eliminates you!"

As Wednesday looked around her surroundings, she saw no one, but still yelled, "Who are you people? How many clones have you made of me and my wife!?"

A distorted voice from the speakers then said, "Oh, we had no intention to create an army of you, if that's what you're worried about. We only intended to make the absolute bare minimum needed to eliminate you."

Frustration filled Wednesday's face as she said, "Why me?"

The distorted voice from the speakers simply said, "You're an outcast. Why not? Your filthy kind should've been exterminated from the Earth long ago. Unfortunately, killing all outcasts would take too much time. But we can help put outcasts back in their place again by eliminating the most famous and prominent of outcasts in popular culture. Luckily, we came up with the ideal plan to eliminate you with a clone of yourself. It may seem cliché and old school... but whatever gets the job done. Now it's time for you to face... dripping bubble poppycock."

"Excuse me?" - Wednesday asked with a confused face.

However, Laura quickly fell to the ground with her hands on her head, her face in pain as she said, "No! It's the stupid code! My programming being activated. I... aaaaaahhhhh!"

Suddenly, Laura's face became that of a primal angry beast as she activated her sharp claws, and instantly tried to use them to attack Wednesday.

Wednesday immediately blocked Laura's claws with her sword as she said, "I'm sorry Laura, but you know more than anyone I have to save Enid."

The two quickly began a fierce battle, their swords and claws clanging against each other, sparks flying everywhere. Laura's eyes were wild with the instinct to kill, while Wednesday's were cold and calculating. Laura would jump and land with a thud, her claws swiping the air where Wednesday had been a split second ago. Meanwhile, Wednesday would parry Laura's attacks with surgical precision, her sword moving like a snake slithering through the grass. Laura threw a punch, but Wednesday was too quick for her and she caught it with her left hand, twisting it away. Laura's left foot kicked up to try to hit Wednesday in the face, but again she dodged it by leaning back. Laura's right foot hit the floor with a thud as she spun around and swiped her left leg in a roundhouse kick, but Wednesday had already jumped back, landing on a nearby table, and then jumping back down to the ground. Laura's claws dug into the stone floor as she spun around again, her eyes searching for her opponent.

Wednesday was now behind Laura and took a swing with her sword. Laura blocked it with a forearm, but the impact was so powerful it sent her staggering back. Laura's teeth were gritted as she tried to fight through the pain. She swiped with her claws again, but Wednesday anticipated the move and sidestepped it. Laura then jumped towards Wednesday, her claws aimed for the kill. But Wednesday was ready for it, and she used Laura's momentum to her advantage, twisting her opponent's body around and slammed her into the ground. Laura's head hit the floor with a sickening crack. The room went quiet for a moment, except for the sound of Laura's heavy breathing. Then, with a roar, Laura got back up, her eyes now fully red with rage. She lunged at Wednesday, her claws aiming for her throat. Wednesday barely managed to dodge it and countered with a kick to Laura's chest, sending her flying across the room. Laura crashed into a wall, and the wall cracked under the impact. Laura stood up again, her body bruised and bleeding.

"Why are you fighting my masters?" Laura screamed in an almost demonic sounding voice, "Why not let your kind meet their end!? They're only going to live a life of persecution until the end of time! Do you really think life will ever be easier for those that are different!?"

"No" - Wednesday said, her eyes filled with both anger and sadness, "But I intend to never make life easier for those that would persecute others due to plain and simple bigotry."

Wednesday then swung her sword at Laura once again, as Laura continued to block Wednesday's attack with her claws. But as the fight went on, something changed. Laura began to falter, and not just because she was tired. The more she looked straight at Wednesday, the more of Wednesday's memories began to come back into her mind. The rage in her eyes faded slightly, and she paused. Wednesday took advantage of the moment, sheathing her sword and rushing over to the control panel she had taken note of when she had first entered the room. She had noticed the large self destruction button hidden behind glass earlier. She had hoped she wouldn't have to press that button, but now was not the time for hesitation. With a quick swipe of her hand, Wednesday broke through the glass and pressed the button marked for self destruction.

"What are you doing!?" - Laura yelled.

"I'm ending this!" Wednesday shouted over the rising din of the alarms. She rushed to the crystal tube holding Enid and smashed the glass with a nearby metal chair. She gently pulled her wife out, supporting her as she gasped for breath. Then without warning, consoles around the room began to explode. It immediately became clear to Wednesday that the creators of this laboratory never planned to let people escape this facility's self destruction via some form of long countdown. The laboratory was beginning to destroy itself immediately. Consoles one after another began to blow up; with one console exploding right near Laura's feet. Laura fell to the ground, bloodied and hurt. Her face of anger and primal rage disappeared, and a face of a scared girl began to appear.

With the room shaking and the smell of smoke filling the air, Wednesday picked the still unconscious Enid up and slung her over her shoulder. Laura tried to get up, but she was too weak. However Wednesday quickly grabbed Laura's hand and began to drag her out of the room. Using every ounce of strength she had, Wednesday dragged both Enid and Laura out of the laboratory as it came crashing down in an inferno. She didn't stop until they were a safe distance away from the blaze. Enid, barely conscious, opened her eyes as she looked around in confusion.

"What... what's going on?" she asked.

Wednesday set her down gently and surprisingly kissed her forehead.

"You're safe now," Wednesday said, "We're both safe."

Enid then closed her eyes again and remained sound asleep on the ground. Wednesday then turned to see a very bloody Laura laying on the ground, with a face filled with pain. Wednesday then knelt down near Laura as she spoke.

"Remain still. I will contact emergency services to get you to a hospital."

"No time." Laura said, "Even if you did get me to a hospital, and I got all patched up... I'd still die before the day was done. That clone of Enid may have been super unstable... but I'm not quite a stable clone either. My metabolism is coming apart. It has been for some time. I found myself needing to eat tons of food just to stay alive. I was sent to Nevermore to kill you, but my survival instincts kicked in, which compelled me to eat tons of food laying around your school. My unstable metabolism was even starting to break down the conditioning I had been receiving, so that was at least something nice. But now... nothing can help me."

Laura began to look much weaker now as her breathing was starting to slow down. Wednesday's eyes widened as she held Laura's hands with her own, looking concerned, but also completely uncertain of what to say. Laura's eyes slowly began to close as she continued talking to Wednesday.

"I suppose this is for the best. There can only be one Wednesday Addams. But... listen... those people... in that lab. They... they made three clones. They made me... they made that clone of Enid that turned to sand... and they made... another clone... a much more stable clone. But... that clone escaped. Please... find... them..."

Then Laura closed her eyes, stopped breathing, and her head turned to the side. Immediately, Laura's skin became pale. Wednesday soon let go of Laura's hands... and then slowly backed away.

The next day, Enid was sitting up in bed looking exhausted as Wednesday was walking over to her with a cup of tea in her hands.

Enid looked very impressed as she said, "Wow. Being served tea in bed by you. This isn't normal. What did I do to deserve this kind of special treatment?"

As Wednesday sat next to Enid and handed her the tea, she simply said, "You get special treatment when my whims dictate. That's all you need to know. So... what do you remember of yesterday afternoon?"

Enid looked a bit puzzled as she said, "I... I don't remember much. You told me to call Harmony to tell her not to be alone. I was gonna meet you to talk to Ana in her dorm... and then I guess I passed out before I got there. Did I miss anything important?"

Wednesday sat very silent for a long moment as she considered what to say next. Then finally Wednesday simply said, "No. You're safe. Also, there was actually nothing dangerous going on inside the school. I thought something awful was going to happen to you... but I was mistaken. Also, I fought off a bear when I was walking deep into the forest the other night. I vanquished it, but in my delirium: I thought I was somehow fighting myself. An obvious result of not getting enough sleep in my older age... which I will reluctantly have to do more of going forward."

Enid made a grateful smile as she said, "Well... if all this nonsense we just went through gets you to spend more time with me in bed, I'm totally okay with that. However... if you're lying to me... it's okay, because I can tell things are better now. So I won't ask anymore questions."

Enid then began to drink the tea Wednesday had given her. Wednesday meanwhile got up walked towards the balcony. She glared at the distant mountain where the hidden cave had been. All traces of who created the clones she had encountered were gone. Any information on who kidnapped Enid was gone. The only comfort she had was knowing that Enid was safe, and all those years of planning the mysterious enemy had put in to kill her had failed. However, Wednesday's thoughts went back to the third clone Laura had mentioned. According to Laura, that other clone had escaped... but was this final clone conditioned to kill Wednesday like the other two clones had been? Were they friend or foe? Were they even still alive? If they were, where were they? More importantly: who were they? This clone that had escaped, were they another clone of her... or of someone else? But more importantly: who was the mysterious enemy that had been pulling all these strings to begin with? Glaring again at the mountain, Wednesday only had one thing to say…

"Whomever you are… I'm ready for you…"

THE END (FOR NOW)

Note From the Author:

I hope you all enjoyed this fun and different kind of tale that author: DrDoom2006 dreamed up. As soon as he wrote the first part of this chapter, I got very excited about doing a story that brought back the flavor of the darker scenes of the Wednesday TV series. However, I eventually also got excited when I realized what kind of future chapters could be built off this particular one... ;)

However, next week: we will FINALLY be returning to WEEKLY adventures from this series. I already have a TON of future chapters already in the works, as I really wanted to return to doing weekly stories with a BANG. Next week, we will finally see Wednesday and Enid's daughter: Ana return to the center focus alongside her ghostly boyfriend Gerard. It's going to be a huge EPIC adventure. I actually spent literally seven months (on and off) breaking down this story, writing it, and editing it; trying to get it just right. I hope you all enjoy it when it premiers next week. You do not want to miss it! ;)
