A BLACK'S MAGIC

Musings and studies by Lord Hydra Augustus Black

Magic is something that is in all parts of the world, an underlying energy that pushes through everything. When the magic builds up enough in a being or object, that object becomes what we know as "magical".

Magic can range from the tiniest speck of sand to the grandest and largest creatures known to the world. Everything has magic, but only certain things can actively influence the magic in themselves to control it.

When a sapient creature successfully manages to control the magic within themselves, they become a magical being, someone who can influence magic from the world at large. A magical being can take in the magic of the world around them and use it to enhance themselves and change reality as they see fit, with the only limiter being the amount of magic they allow through their bodies.

A person's internal magic is a beautiful thing; with no two magical signatures alike. The inner magic of a person is often compared to the plumbing of a home, it is the device that funnels and pushes the magic where it needs to go. Without enough internal magic, the magic itself is unable to pass through the body and thus the person is unable to become a magical being.

Examples of inner magic practiced is easily seen with Witches and Wizards, but creatures such as giants, whose magic is focused around their mouth, and centaurs, whose magic is focused around their hooves, are able to be seen easily by anyone with any understanding of magic.

When enough inner magic is found in a person, their ability to manipulate the magic of the world is indescribable. Beings such as the Atlanteans were able to handle supreme amounts of magic, and in the golden age they led the world to a utopia until the Empire's fall.

Other such beings of magic include the kitsune, the goblins, the barrowdwellers, and the gibberings. Each continent has their own magical being, with some of them preferring to seclude themselves from the world much as witches and wizards have.

Of course, magic itself can flow much like a living being, and can also be forced to obey. Beings who do such acts of sacrilege are often cursed by magic, their humanity and bodies stripped away. Magics that can do such things are considered to be the most disgusting and evil acts that someone can do; being called Soul Magic in the world at large.

Soul Magic, which includes the Soul Destruction spell, the Soul Bind spell, and the Soul Pain spell, are the utmost form of evil in the world at large. It is these spells that eventually became the Unforgiveables that are known by so many, but not even the Unforgiveables can match their destructive power.

However, there is one thing that is known to be the direct opposite of such black magic and evil; stated to be the very magic of the world itself. This is called True Magic, which is whispered in hushed tones in myths and legends. True Magic is said to allow yourself to open to the magic of the world, allowing yourself to be its conduit. No such being has ever existed, even in legend; but the Atlantean myths—

The book is burned for a paragraph, the words charred away by flame.

And now, I speak of wild magic. This magic is stated to be raw and untamed, untouched by any hand that would dare to contain it. Some know it as a disease, a virulent plague that harms children. Others know of it as an ancient whisper, an indication of true power. But the truth is far simpler; magic does as one wills it. And if one wishes their magic not to obey, but to be a companion and friend, their magic becomes wild, true, and free. More dedicated to themselves than any magic has or ever will. Those of the wild magic find themselves drawn to other magic; for wild magic can enhance magic all around it and add strength when someone is at its weakest.

In this book, I strive to teach all of those who know not about magic the basics of it, and how to improve yourself. It is a hard route and can sometimes cause problems in the short term, but as your body is strengthened by exercise, so too can it be strengthened by specific means and rituals, often involving movements of the body. For more information, Chapter 4 is all about these rituals and movements.

A word of warning to all those who come after me. There are those who wish to hide magic, and keep it away from those deemed unworthy. But you must always remember, and always take heed that magic is Always Pure.

Magic is true in all things, and inner magic merely is the ability to control it. Do not let yourself believe that you are the same as those without inner magic; but at the same time never forget that the people without should be aided with your power.

Magic is a gift, but it is also a duty. Magic is your right, but it is also a burden. For when you are strong, it is up to you to protect the weak. If you are powerful, it is up to you to aid the powerless.

Make no mistake, those who learn their inner magic, and guide it to grow, will always be above those who do not. Magic is a power that is as much a birthright as it is a skill. Your blood sets you apart. But always remember that magic blood is Always Pure.

Scribbled in the footnote of the page is the words "Toujours Pur"
