After several days of arduous travel, Naruto and Team Seven finally arrived back in Konoha, standing before the Third Hokage to present their report. The air was thick with tension, and the weight of their recent experiences hung heavily on their shoulders.
"And that's everything that happened. After the unexpected scare from Broly, the rest of the mission went relatively smoothly," Kakashi concluded, his voice steady but laced with concern.
The Hokage leaned back in his chair, the creaking of the old wood echoing in the quiet room as he processed their words. His brow furrowed in thought, and he finally leaned forward, intensity in his gaze. "This is a serious situation I cannot overlook. The moment you realized this mission was beyond a C-Rank, you should have returned to Konoha immediately," he said, his tone firm. Naruto opened his mouth, ready to argue, but the Hokage raised a hand, silencing him.
"I understand that both Naruto and Sasuke possess strength beyond that of the average genin. However, orders are orders. Broly's interference elevated this mission to an S-Rank level. For now, I will classify it as an A-Rank, but there will be consequences, Kakashi."
Kakashi's gaze fell to the floor, a deep sense of shame washing over him. He understood the gravity of the situation. Even if he felt confident in his team's abilities, he knew he had failed in his duty as a leader.
"Effective immediately, Team Seven will be on hiatus for two weeks. No training, no missions. During this time, Kakashi, you will be reassigned as a Chunin and take on other missions. I must enforce these rules; if another team had faced the same circumstances, they could have suffered greatly—or worse," the Hokage stated, his voice heavy with authority and concern for the village.
"This isn't fair, Jiji! We all agreed to take this mission!" Naruto exclaimed, frustration boiling over as his fists clenched.
Kakashi sighed, placing a hand on Naruto's shoulder. "No, Naruto. The Hokage is right. We have to follow orders, even when we think we've made the right choice. What if we weren't ready? What if it had been another team? They could have been in real danger."
Kakashi bowed deeply, a sign of respect and acceptance of responsibility. "I accept full punishment, sir," he said, the weight of his words echoing in the room.
The Hokage stood and walked to the window, his eyes reflecting the weight of his responsibilities as he gazed over the village he had devoted his life to protect. "I'm proud of what you accomplished out there, but I regret having to do this. If there's nothing more, you're dismissed," he said quietly, his gaze lost in the horizon. Team Seven bowed and exited the room, the tension lingering in the air.
"Cat," the Hokage called, summoning an ANBU with a cat mask, who knelt before him, ready for orders. "Fetch Goku immediately. We need to discuss some important changes."
As Team Seven walked together, the streets of Konoha bustling around them, Naruto's voice rang out, still filled with indignation. "This isn't fair! We did our job! Why should we be on hiatus?" His eyes sparkled with frustration, and he could feel the weight of the situation bearing down on him.
Sasuke, tired of Naruto's complaints, suddenly spun around, his expression cool and composed. Sakura, sensing the shift, instinctively grabbed Naruto by the collar and yanked him down. Just before he hit the ground, Sasuke executed a swift spinning back kick, sending Naruto hurtling through the air.
Sakura and Kakashi exchanged bewildered glances, processing the surprising turn of events. Kakashi raised an eyebrow, both impressed and concerned, while Sakura's jaw dropped in disbelief. Sasuke resumed his path, hands tucked in his pockets, whistling nonchalantly as if nothing had happened.
"Sasuke, did you really have to send Naruto flying like that?" Sakura asked, concern etching her features.
Sasuke shrugged, not breaking his stride. "Vegeta-sensei always said if Naruto won't shut up, make him."
Sakura sighed, shaking her head but ultimately choosing to let it go as Sasuke quickened his pace, disappearing from sight with a flicker.
Meanwhile, Naruto soared through the air, arms crossed, still reeling from the unexpected kick. He turned to face the ground, focused his energy, and vanished, reappearing in front of Yugito, who was diligently training in a nearby clearing, her movements fluid and precise.
"Hey, Yugito-chan! I'm back!" Naruto greeted, a wide grin spreading across his face as he gazed at her, his heart swelling at the sight.
"Welcome back, Naruto! What are you doing here?" she asked, surprised and pleased, walking up to him and planting a quick kiss on his cheek, her smile warm and inviting.
"It looks like you were training. Perfect! I need you to teach me how to use chakra," he said eagerly, eyes gleaming with excitement and determination.
Yugito raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. "Why do you need to learn chakra when you already use ki?"
"Because every ki move I know I learned from Goku-sensei. Now I want to create my own moves! I've mastered the Shadow Clone Jutsu, but that's about it," Naruto explained, his voice filled with determination.
"Alright, but be warned—training with me will be tough," she said, a mischievous glint in her eyes, relishing the chance for a bit of payback after Naruto's antics during the HTC.
Yugito led him to a sturdy tree, pointing at it with authority. "To start, I want you to run up this tree using chakra." She demonstrated effortlessly, channeling her chakra and walking up the trunk until she perched gracefully on a branch, her poise impressive.
"Remember, too little chakra and you won't stick; too much, well, you'll see," she giggled, her laughter ringing out like music.
Naruto grinned, treating it as a challenge. He launched himself at the tree, but each time he tried, he bounced off, landing on the ground with a frustrated thud. Yugito couldn't help but laugh, her amusement infectious, which only fueled Naruto's determination.
"Oh, don't worry, my feline-hime! I'll master this training," he declared, frustration transforming into resolve as he continued attempting the exercise, his spirit unwavering. As he trained, he recounted the events of the Hokage's office, sharing his experiences with enthusiasm and animated gestures.
Back at Sasuke's home, he stepped inside to find Vegeta lounging on the couch, a scowl etched on his face. "Where is everyone?" Sasuke asked, hoping for some guidance.
Vegeta glanced at him, irritation evident. "How should I know? I'm not their babysitter." Sasuke sighed, used to Vegeta's gruff demeanor, but he had a purpose today.
"Vegeta-sensei, I need your help learning a new move," he said, his voice steady, determination shining in his eyes.
A devilish grin spread across Vegeta's face, his eyes glinting with excitement. "Alright, brat. I'll help you with training."
As Sasuke felt a mix of dread and anticipation, he steeled himself for what was to come. Before he could rethink his request, Vegeta grabbed him by the head and flung him out the closed window, shattering the glass in a shower of shards.
Sasuke flew through the air, the world spinning around him as he braced for impact, already regretting his decision to ask Vegeta for help.
Back at the Hokage Tower, Goku arrived, bowing slightly to show respect. "Good afternoon, Hokage-dono," he greeted, a bright smile on his face, bringing a sense of lightness into the room.
"Good to see you, Goku," Hiruzen replied, his expression shifting to seriousness. "I have an important question for you."
"Sure, old man. What is it?" Goku replied, his casual demeanor intact, exuding confidence.
Hiruzen chuckled, the tension easing momentarily. "You certainly know how to make me smile, Goku."
"To be fair, I'm older than you by a thousand years, give or take," Goku joked, his eyes sparkling with mirth.
But Hiruzen's expression grew serious as he focused on the matter at hand. "How would you feel about becoming Hokage?"
