Chapter Five- The Unspoken yTruth
Maeve refused to check Twitter after Raw.
She already knew what the reaction would be.
So instead, she did the smart thing—she went straight to the hotel, ordered room service, and tried to pretend the past week of her life hadn't happened.
It didn't work.
Because at 1 AM, someone knocked on her door.
She knew exactly who it was before she even opened it.
Cody.
Still in his hoodie and sweats from the arena, looking exhausted but also intensely focused.
Maeve sighed. "Let me guess. You can't sleep either."
Cody shook his head. "We need to talk."
Maeve stepped aside.
Cody didn't waste time. He ran a hand through his hair, pacing as he spoke.
"This is spiraling," he said. "The internet is eating it up. WWE's gonna keep pushing it. And I just—"
He exhaled sharply. "I need to know where you stand on this."
Maeve blinked. "Where I stand?"
Cody turned to her. "Yeah. Because if you hate this, I'll fight it. I'll go to Hunter and shut it down."
Maeve's stomach did something complicated.
Because the truth?
She didn't hate it.
She hated that she didn't hate it.
Cody was staring at her, waiting for an answer.
And for once, Maeve had no idea what to say.
So she lied. "I don't care either way."
Cody's expression flickered—like maybe he didn't believe her.
But instead of pushing, he just nodded.
"Alright," he said quietly. "Guess we'll just… go with it then."
Maeve nodded.
But as Cody turned to leave, she felt an ache in her chest.
Like maybe she'd just made a mistake.
By the next week, WWE had gone full soap opera mode.
The script for Raw arrived, and Maeve nearly choked on her coffee.
•Segment: Cody confronts Maeve in the med bay.
•Lines: "Tell me you didn't feel anything when I kissed you."
Maeve threw the script across the room.
Sarah howled with laughter.
"Oh my God," Sarah gasped. "This is gold."
Maeve glared. "I hate you."
Sarah just grinned. "Babe, I hate to break it to you, but this is WWE's love story of the year. You're officially a main character."
Maeve groaned into her hands.
This was going to be a disaster.
