[Myself (your humble narrator, Rollo the Druid), Reinward the Chosen One and Fangornio the
Barbarian are on a new adventure to retrieve a "Beacon" from the Chambers of Infernal
Malice (a better name for it being "The Chambers of Massive Bugs".]
DAY 637 (20th Uktar) (November) cont ...
With still so many unanswered questions about this strange place we continued on our way.
Through more doors and down more corridors we came to a bend in the corridor where there
was what I shall describe as a 'lightning turret'.
Reinward was in front, but he jumped out of the way when it fired and I was hit by a bolt
of lightning that really hurt. As my eyeballs spun in my head, the wily rogue destroyed the
turret with some well placed daggers.
The corridor led to a room where there was a big pile of spoiled meat. Perhaps it was used
to feed the giant scorpions? Fang went to search through it and Reinward went to the southern
part of the chamber to look at a door. Unfortunately he triggered a trap and was hit by a
magic missile. He had to be reminded to disable it later.
The southern wall had a large mosaic on it, in which was hidden a secret door. In the room
beyond were two gargantuan scorpions. I started with a wave of crocodiles, Reinward threw
daggers and Fang stood and watched. He simply refuses to use ranged weapons, but he did
lob a couple of throwing axes.
After the crocodiles had gone I summoned a triceratops and it charged in, horn lowered.
As more daggers flew, I used a couple of Hypothermia spells and it was not long before
the scorpions were vanquished. At no point were we in any danger as the door was too
small for the giant insects to reach us.
Reinward, ever cautious, wanted to go back to rest, so I Teleported us all back to
Sasserine after the battle. They nagged me to sell all the loot we had found so I went
to Orimander's shop and sold the lot.
I also arranged the purchase of a pint of lavender oil and a pint of cedar essential oils.
I have heard that these are good scorpion repellents and I'm eager to try them out on
the larger specimens.
After a wash and some dinner we went to one of the larger tavern's in Sasserine for a
drink. Lavinia came along.
The banter around the table was the gender of Fangornio. He made a joke (?)
saying something like "Don't assume my gender". He must have picked it up from somewhere
or was using the expression incorrectly.
Anyway, Reinward leapt on it, and by the end of the evening I must admit even I was starting
to get confused as to whether Fang was a boy or a girl. To be honest, the fact that there is
no evidence either way is puzzling by itself. I've never seen Fang with his clothes off,
while all the other men I know tend not to be so shy. Maybe Fang is neither one thing or the
other and 'they' are very secretive about it.
When I get back to the island I shall have to ask Corhim or Griff about it as they have known
him longer. How strange!
