Chapter 6: The Cove
Later, that day, Hiccup, Hicca and the Styrkarsson Quadruplets returned to the spot at Raven Peak where they freed the Night Fury. "So, why didn't you?" Hiccup asked as he looked at his bolas. "What're you thinking, Hiccup?" Blóm asked. "I'm thinking we need to further investigate that Night Fury." Hiccup said. "It was heading towards that cove up ahead." Hicca said, pointing towards the cove. "Sounds like a good place to start." Hylli said. "Let's go." Hiccup said.
They walked through the forest, climbed over a log and found the small entrance into the cove. They looked around, but couldn't see anything but a small lake in the center of the cove. "Well, this was stupid." Hiccup said. "Yeah. Night Fury's probably long gone by now." Hicca said. "What a waste of time." Sál said. But then, Hiccup spotted something by the edge. They looked like scales. "Wait, what's this?" He asked. He picked up one and inspected it. "Dragon scales?" Oflugin asked. "No doubt from the Night Fury." Hicca said. "They look freshly shedded. And they're very pretty." Hiccup said.
Suddenly, something large and black flew up past them, startling them. They ducked down as they saw the Night Fury trying to fly out of the cove. But it fell and glided back down to the ground. Hiccup, Hicca and the quadruplets were in awe. "It's still here." Hylli said. They climbed down from the entrance and hid themselves on a large boulder, trying not to slide off or get too close, as they watched the Night Fury trying to take off again. But it kept failing. Hiccup got out his notebook and started sketching the Night Fury as it kept trying to fly away, but kept failing. "Why don't you just fly away?" Hiccup asked. The Night Fury let out a blast out of frustration. "Look, one of its tailfins is missing." Sál said, pointing to the Night Fury's tail. Hiccup smudged off the left tailfin as he saw this. "It must've been ripped off when we shot it down." Hicca said. "No wonder it has trouble. Both fins must help it balance its flying." Hiccup said. "That poor Dragon." Blóm said, feeling sorry for the Night Fury.
The Night Fury tried to fly off again, but it just fell back down to the ground by the lake. Just then, a fish swam by, getting its attention. It crept up to the water and dunked its head in, trying to grab a fish, but they swam away too quickly. Hiccup could sense the Night Fury's emotions; hunger. As he relaxed his arms, his pencil accidentally rolled out of his hand. He tried to grab it, but it rolled off the boulder and landed in the cove. The Night Fury heard the pencil fall and looked up. Its eyes fell on Hiccup, Hicca and the quadruplets, recognizing them. Especially Hiccup. As they stared at each other, Hiccup tilted his head. The Night Fury tilted its head the same way. Hiccup could feel its emotions of curiosity and suspicion.
Suddenly, a shriek echoed off the cove's walls. "What was that?" Blóm asked. "Look up there." Oflugin said, pointing up at the sky. 5 familiar silhouettes were flying towards the cove. "Stay down." Hiccup said. They lied down on their stomachs as the 5 silhouettes revealed themselves to be 5 identical Furies. A white one with smaller flaps on its head, a red one with curved horns, a blue one with amphibious gills, a green one with stone spines on its back and a grey one with different shaped tailfins. "Those must be the other 5 Furies." Hicca whispered. "Light, Fire, Water, Earth, Wind." Hiccup whispered, identifying each one. As the Furies landed, the Light Fury walked up to the Night Fury and affectionately nuzzled their heads together. "Looks like they must be mates." Sál said. The Water Fury walked around the Night Fury and saw its tail, sniffing it. The Dragons looked up, sensing the Haddock Twins and the Styrkarsson Quadruplets, and saw them staring. They felt frozen, finding the Furies cute, beautiful and magnificent. "Uh…we better get back." Hiccup said, snapping out of his curiosity. As he left the same way they came in, Hicca and Styrkarssons followed. The Night Fury watched as they left, wondering why it was thinking about them. Especially Hiccup. It walked over to Hiccup's pencil and sniffed it. Suddenly, the sky got dark as it felt a raindrop hit its head. It joined its fellow Furies under a huge tree with huge roots sticking out of the cove wall and decided to wait out the storm.
Well, how was that for a short chapter? After leaving the arena, Hiccup, Hicca and the Styrkarssons were curious about what Gobber said. That a Dragon always goes for the kill. But the Night Fury didn't. So, they tracked the Night Fury all the way down to the cove, where it was trying to fly away, but couldn't due to its missing tail fin. And to make things more interesting, the other 5 Furies, Light, Fire, Water, Earth and Wind, showed up. After staring at each other in amazement, Hiccup, Hicca and the Styrkarssons hurried out of the cove and the Furies took shelter just as it started to rain. But will the curiosities between the Vikings and Dragons continue to grow? What new discoveries will be made? Leave a review if you want.
