"You Didn't kiss him?!" Stacy yells and Candace Shushes her.
The party wasn't over and was going on past 9pm Amanda was asleep. Most of the people who were still parting were the adults. Candace and Stacy were in the kitchen cleaning the dishes that were left over.
"I mean we almost did but then.
But who cares he's my boss Stacy nothing can happen"
Stacy scoffs. "He won't be your boss forever ya know."
Cadence gives her a pointed look and Stacy sighs.
"Fine. But there's definitely sexual tension between you two. Good luck dealing with that everyday at work"
"I'll be fine" Candace says not entirely sure if she was trying to convince Stacy or herself.
...
Monday morning Candace throws on her normal black business slacks and a matching blazer along with a purple blouse and heads to work. She has butterflies in her stomach knowing she's going to see Jeremy again today. She enters the building and is greeted by Jenny.
"Good morning Candace! Sorry I couldn't make it to the birthday party my niece had the chicken pox. Candace shakes her head.
"No worries! Maybe next time"
Jenny nods smiling.
"Definitely"
She goes into her office and leaves it open she sets her stuff down and pulls up her current cases on her computer. Around 10am Kevin knocks on her open door.
"Knock knock. Mr Johnson wants to see you in the boardroom."
Candace feels her heart quicken and tries to look calm.
"Okay thanks"
He nods and walks away. She stands up and straightens any wrinkles that she might've had and makes her way to the boardroom. Jeremy is writing some stuff on the board and she smiles .
"You wanted to see me Jeremy?" He turns around and she is almost startled by his cold expression.
"It's Mr. Johnson. Please refer to me as so in the workplace. And yes I wanted to go over the case with you and my assistant."
Candace's smiles faltered and she just nods.
"Oh um- yes. Of course sorry" she is so embarrassed.
Of course the other day meant nothing. He didn't even kiss her. She felt so unprofessional and stupid. He keeps a stone face when Ms. Julian walks in and she takes a seat at the spacious table followed by Candace. After the meeting she walks back to her office and shuts the door before burying her face in her hands. Ugh stupid Stacy making her believe there could actually be something there. He was so different at Amanda's party this seemed like a whole different man. She sauntered over to her desk and takes a deep breath. She grabs her bag and leaves her office.
"I'm going on a break" She says to Kevin not waiting to hear a reply. She just wants to be out of the building. She walks in a random direction until she stops at a small cafe. She walks inside and the smell of coffee hits her like a brick. It is quaint. It has velvet sofas none of which matched and the floor has a black and white checker pattern and there are a lot of plants. She walks to the barista and orders a small vanilla latte and a giant chocolchip cookie. What? She eats when she's stressed. She sits on one of the plushie sofas and sipped her coffee as she stared out the window. She has seen 3 different sides of Jeremy johnson. The sexy, the fatherly and the stoic jerk. Which one was there real him? She didn't have time to figure it out. She cares about this job more than she cared about having a relationship so she would just suck it up and do her job. She returns to the office about 45 minutes later and coming out of the elevator comes face to face with none other than Mr. Johnson. He has a scowl on his face and his arms are crossed.
"Ms. Flynn where have you been?"
Candace scrunches her eyebrows "um on a break?"
"Well please let someone know when your leaving next time"
"I did I told-"
"I put some files on your desk for the upcoming case I need them by the end of the day."
With that he turns on his heels and leaves. Candace stands there confused.
"Sure thing boss" she grumbles under her breath and goes to her office.
...
That night she finishes up finally and gets ready to go. She seems to be the last one out judging by the quietness in the front room. She throws her bag over her shoulder and makes her way towards the elevator. She gets in and is startled when a hand reaching out to stop it from closing. Jeremy-eh I mean Mr. Johnson steps into the elevator and Candace stares straight ahead refusing to make eye contact.
"Hey" he says.
She stayed silent.
"So are you doing anything Friday night?"
Candace's heads shoots up and she meets his eyes which lost the coldness they held earlier.
"What?" He shrugs.
"I just thought if your free.. Maybe we can get dinner or something"
Candace's eye narrowed. Was this man bipolar? Was she being pranked?
"Mr. Johnson-"
"Hey we're not working anymore. Call me Jeremy"
She narrows her eyes. "I'm confused."
Jeremy rolls his eyes.
"Cadence I can't have people in the office thinking I'm showing favoritism I have to treat you like I do everyone else but outside of work.. that's a different story"
Candace's head is spinning.
"With all due respect MR. JOHNSON I don't think it's a good idea."
The elevator doors opened and she steps out. He follows gently grabbing her arm.
"Candace. It's nothing personal I just-I have an image to uphold"
Candace scoffs. "Well don't let me stop you."
She starts walking away again.
"At least let me walk you to your car"
She stops and looks at him. "Goodnight Mr.Johnson."
