"Well, that was… something." Stelle commented, meeting several faces.

"Y-You, gah, didn't get left falling for an eternity!" Caelus cried out, holding back a gag as his sister patted his back in comfort.

"Details, smetails," Silver Wolf waved dismissively as all caught Relon walked forward past them all.

"Where do you think you're going?" Herta already knew the answer but still wanted to hear it. And secretly record it for other purposes. Stopping right next to her, his vermilion eyes met the woman who crossed her arms expectantly.

"What else?" He blinked. "To go find Asta."

She had to hold back the giddy smile. She must!

"Quite the turnaround, no?"

"It's one thing to be indifferent to something. It's another to simply be blind to it." He mumbled just loud enough for her to hear. It didn't help that he had that longing look as he held his chest. Damn it! This would be great for a novel and she couldn't even write it down!

"I see. Then get going. You know where to find her." Gesturing to the door, he eyed her. "Hurry up, we've been waiting on this for way too long."

Looking back at the approving looks of everyone, one nod from Arlan was all it took. With a single step, he vanished into cubes.

"Did you seriously have to take him there?" Herta batted an eye at Silver Wolf.

"Yup."

Supply Zone

Out he emerged.

Sure enough, as he believed as did his first love, there she stood caressing the gentle giant that was the Doomsday Beast.

Adopting a tender smile, he approached.

"Found you." Halting her act, his presence already noticed by the beast but not warranting any response, Asta turns to meet Relon. "Looks like I was right in you being here."

"Relon…"

"Beautiful as always," he warmly greeted while caressing the dragon.

"O-Oh, yes, Tear is truly captivating once you get the time to.. Well, not get attacked by their kind." She awkwardly chuckled.

"I was referring to you actually."

A sudden warmth resonated in her core at that. She knew full well what it was. Those giddy butterflies at being complimented. The subtle squirm her body did to accommodate such kind words. Though deep down it wasn't the words that mattered per say, rather who they came from.

"When everything isn't so chaotic the space station is quite peaceful," she chuckled, returning to gazing amongst the cosmos.

"I'll say. Aside from hoping to see you, Arlan and Herta, the only other reason we ever have to come here aside from errands was to just take it all in. The ambient silence within the vacuum of space, the countless colors of worlds; the entirety of that which lies within the universe."

"You know Madam Herta truly does admire the two of you."

"Pfft, her dolls sure suck at showing it compared to the real her. It amazes me how bad she is at cooking while willing to ask for advice but the moment her dolls make one mistake, they're willing to throw a fit. Her ego is one thing I'll never understand."

"Haha, it's funny because on the few occasions I've met Madam Herta in her true form, she's never been so… open. Even though she says she trusts me, it always feels like she's holding back. Yet, with you, I don't ever think that's the case."

"Maybe it's because of my status as an Aeon Child and her… own unique status." He could feel that tender smile wane. Asta knew much of her boss but not everything. The more… darker things were kept under wraps. "Asta, you know she trusts you a great deal. You're someone capable of much while also having the strength to shoulder and endure. Today shows that."

"I don't doubt her, Relon. Honestly, I've never doubted anything Madam Herta or Arlan has told me."

"So why is it that I'm still sensing something?" Only at that did he notice her hand hold at her chest before she finally turned to face him.

He'd long since made mental notes of her mannerisms. The smile she sported casually would rise ever so slightly when their eyes locked, the eagerness in her voice to help those around. The childish antics she would occasionally reveal such as her bad spending habits.

Despite the recent battle, Asta didn't show any hints of the mental turmoil or physical pain that the Antimatter Legion caused her. Instead, all he saw was a young woman express herself in honesty and all. Trembling sapphire eyes fearful of what was to come next, gripping hand holding back the likely endless amount of nerves that expanded throughout her body. He took it all in and faced her.

Then he saw it. Just how truly beautiful Asta really was.

"I'm worried," she confessed, detaching her blue eyes from his red. "If I can even do… this."

"How come?" Looking to grasp his genuine concern, she returned to gazing past Tear at the stars and planets. "I've told you about my father giving me my first telescope and sparking my love for astronomy, right?" At that, he quietly nodded. "I actually had another dream, one given by my mother."

"To be a princess," she smiled. "Before Dad's gift and after, Mother would read to me bedtime stories of princesses. They always had this trope of being kidnapped and having the hero save them before falling in love. Yet, there was always one story that I loved the most out of the many read to me."

"Which one was that?"

"The story where the hero failed, leaving the princess to spend her life gazing at the stars. Doesn't it sound saddening, haha. It fascinated me to know a story didn't have a happy ending. I asked Mother about it and she would always speak about how not everything is guaranteed. That story… It gave me a new perspective on the world."

Looking at the resting dragon, she places a hand to caress it. Hearing it make a sound, likely a coo, she smiled fondly at the creature.

"Not all people get happy endings. Not all people are perfect. The princess made a mistake and caused the story to occur. That realization always stood in the back of my head as I grew up. Today only reminded me of that. What right do I have to be happy when the lives of so many were lost because-"

"It wasn't because of you, Asta."

"THEN WHO?!" He didn't flinch. Not at the shout, not at the Harmony energy seeping out, nor the tears that trickled down her face. "People died, Relon! I tried to save as many lives as I could! Madam Herta entrusted this space station to me and I- I couldn't protect it. Had you and the others not arrived when you did, then…!"

"It's like you said, 'Not all people are perfect' and neither are you, Asta." His voice was calm but even more so honest. "Herta made you the director of the space station because she knows you're a capable individual that does only her best and nothing less. Today showed that. Because of your leadership, this entire place isn't piled in more bodies."

"That's not true."

"It is. Asta, no one's perfect and not everyone gets that happy ending. But that doesn't mean people like you don't deserve one."

"That's…! I… I don't believe it to be right still. Not this opportunity, but rather how it's seemingly been handed on a platter to me."

"What do you mean?"

"When we first met, I didn't think much of you. I had just started working under Madam Herta yet the countless times I would see you and her together piqued my curiosity. Then we finally met. You were kind, honest, helpful with so many things that I felt bad relying on you so much. Before I knew it, I'd look just a little bit more to when you would next come by. It's probably how Madam Herta and Arlan figured out I had a crush before I even realized it," she chuckled.

"You know me, if someone's in need of help then I'm gonna help."

"I know. That side of you is what made my feelings grow even more. Every time I'd see you, my mood would get better bit by bit. There were even times when you'd help Arlan and I out that I'd have to fight back the giddiness, haha!" On and on she laughed.

Relon chuckled alongside her for those few seconds as he then noticed it.

A single sob.

Refocusing, his eyes slowly opened to the fresh stream of tears as she wiped at her eyes.

"I had to fight… so much more back when I found out about your relationship with both Eina and March! They looked so happy but even more than them, you wore a face I hadn't seen before. One I thought I would eventually. Love."

"Asta…"

"It hurt. But the sight of you distraught was an even greater pain than coming between you three! So I buried my feelings. I retained the happiness in seeing you… and gave up on everything else."

"Until earlier," he murmured out.

"When both suddenly brought up my feelings, I was at a loss for words. The few that I was managing left me when they brought up the offer to be a part of the idea behind making a family. They knew of my feelings for you and didn't want to see me suffer. They were so kind, so willing to make me happy…! It should be just you three! I don't deserve to be a part of such a wonderful thing!"

As she cradled herself, fighting back another burst of tears, he simply stood there. All he could do was take it in. As he did, an emotion Relon himself didn't expect to feel bubbled to the surface; anger.

"Shut up." It was clear and cut, ending any lingering thoughts she held onto. "Shut up about believing you're intruding," he spoke, taking a step forward. "Shut up on thinking you don't deserve the best," another step. "Shut up for having the audacity to claim to know what you don't deserve! If you think I'm going to watch you wallow in self-pity, then you have another thing coming!"

"Why not?! Eina, March; they love you so much! Why change that!" Even as their faces stood only inches apart, the residual power from both teetered back and forth. "Tell me!"

"Because they love you." It was like the calm after the storm, the power that sentence held against her. Looking up, she saw that same smiling face he wore just moments prior. "They do. You're sweet, a hard worker, reliable, always going the extra mile to make everyone's days better; what's there not to love about you?" He chuckled, lifting a hand to wipe at her teary corners.

"I don't… I just…"

"You deserve a happy ending too, Asta."

At that, a pang resonated from deep within. Like a trigger, her mind raced through the countless stories told. At the epicenter, that one tragic princess stood before the witch. Two pills, colored opposite sat in both offering hands.

A red and blue pill.

One that would lead the princess towards a supposed bright future and the other towards a fate worse than death.

Yet, there Asta stood in the princess' shoes. Her hand outstretched, wary of the crucial decision, was stopped by another. By Relon's. The witch faded as both pills became blue. With a simple gesture, the light far beyond emerged full of life.

Then she felt it. The tender embrace of Relon holding her.

"Is it… really okay?" She spoke, her voice muffled by the closeness of his chest.

"It is. Whether we start as simply a happy family or choose to make 'us' a status, we can take our time regardless," he spoke, tracing the captivating braid along her hair. "I'll make sure you feel like a princess, that's a promise."

Then she smiled, lifting just slightly to meet his eyes and shook her head.

"You don't have to promise me anything, Relon. Being here, like this, with you; it's all I've ever wanted."

"This idea is still new so who knows how many may join. Will that be okay?"

"With you watching over us? I couldn't think of a safer place."

"Haha, I don't know. Between Eina's logic-breaking abilities and Tear's… well size…"

"What about March?"

"What about March?" He deadpanned for the two to fall out into a fit of giggling. "Jokes aside, they've probably been watching everything from the cameras all around us." It was understandable why Asta now sported a red face at the mention. "Herta will probably be saving our conversation and add it to her romcom lists or something."

"I… unfortunately can see her doing that now. Still, we should get back to the others. They're probably waiting for us." Despite her words, the happy smile that she wore as she walked past gave Relon an idea.

"Hey, can I ask you something?"

"Of course," she answered, pivoting cutely on a dime resting her hands behind her back. "I haven't been this happy since Herta took me on as director. Why?"

He blushed, understandably so given what idea he had in mind and yet, he didn't let that deter himself.

"I bet I could make you happier," he grinned. "Would you like me to?"

Perhaps it was their newfound level of understanding between one another or maybe their thoughts just aligned. Regardless, both felt the need- the want for what was to come next.

"Tear? Could you give us some privacy," she requested, walking towards Relon, all the while beaming that mesmerizing smile he's found himself respecting and admiring for the years he's known her.

Acknowledging the request, the doomsday beast leaned forward, careful not to touch the docking bay itself or the ceiling. With a flap of its wings, it moved to enshroud the two.

"It's so beautiful," Asta gasped, her own blue eyes shimmering against the reflected light of Tear's own circuit-like wings.

"Just like you."

Drawing near, his arms moved to hold her waist as her own rested behind his neck.

"You're quite the charmer, you know," she giggled.

"I'm just me. Don't expect me to jokingly flirt though. I am horrible at it."

"Pfft, I doubt that."

"Ohoho, you haven't seen anything yet."

"Do you know what I do see?"

"Me?" He wondered, tilting his head.

"More than that," she began as her hands traced from the back of his head to rest atop his cheeks. "I see someone incomprehensibly kind," she began, inching her face closer. A person who put all others above himself. A human who has been dealt a not too kind hand and has made the most of it. I see a man… who I've fallen in love with."

There they stood, within the vast array of lights all around. Neither took their eyes off the other, even as their noses brushed against the other. His hands held gently from the top of her partially exposed back to the dense layers that covered her hip. Her own held the face of that whom had smitten her since years before.

The gentle wash of her blue eyes like that of a beach's shore instilled an urge. One she happily allowed him to claim.

As he went, a soft sound quickly muffled soon following as he felt one hand retake his back as the other held his scruffy neck. In he gently pressed, feeling her body move itself against his own.

He wanted to hold her, to let her know he was there for her and only her.

She didn't want this gift, this dream came true to end so soon so she'd hold on until her first kiss was complete.

Neither wanted this newfound moment to end.

So they took their time relishing in their newfound bond.
