Everyone was walking through the trees, Richard being carried by Peter and Yaz, carrying him over their shoulders. He was making them a little slow, but they weren't going to just leave him behind. His injury was looking worse the longer they went on.
"Guys, we might need to take a break," Yaz said, seeing he was injured.
"Come on, lean him against the tree," Peter said, putting his father up on the tree to lie down.
"Ah." Richard groaned as he leaned back. "Remind me to tell Masrani I resign if I see him again."
Then they heard Ben scream, getting them to freak out and jump over to him. "Sorry, I stepped on a twig." He tells them.
"Ugh, come on, man."
"You done gave me a heart attack!"
"I should step on you."
"It's okay, Ben," Darius said. "We're all on edge."
"And lost."
"Yeah, we've been out here for a while now," Sammy said. "Darius, we sure we're still headed towards the park?"
"Well, we'd be sure if I still had my phone, because it has a GPS, a compass app, and is also a phone!"
Yaz groaned at Brooklynn. "Sammy didn't steal your phone! No one stole your phone! Can we please stop talking about the phone?"
"You guys! You guys, you guys, you guys." Ben called. "Could you all yell at each other quieter, please?"
"My fellow campers, chill!" Kenji said. "What we need here is someone who can make the hard call on what to do next. Since I'm obviously leadership material I'll do this. And my first decree as leader is for everyone to stop talking and just listen to Darius."
"Huh?" Darius asks.
"You got us out of camp alive." Kenji said. "Plus, I can blame you if anybody gets eaten.
"Wow..." Richard groaned. "How did all of this happen?"
"That was our question," Peter commented. "What kind of creature is that... Indominous Rex?"
Richard sighed and knew that he should explain it if they were going to survive the monster. "It's a genetically modified hybrid."
"Genetically modified?" Peter asked in shock. "That is a thing?"
"Well, it has always been a thing," Richard explained. "We always tend to fill the gaps in the dinosaur DNA with other creatures."
"What did you splice into this one?" Yaz asks.
"A lot..." Richard sighed. "The main DNA was based off of a T-Rex... obviously. But the others were velociraptors, tree frogs, and I believe cuttlefish."
"That is how she can camouflage." Peter took notice. "But...where did this intelligence come from? It knew to take out the support beams. It used its hands. No dinosaur does that."
"That..." Richard sighed. "That was my doing."
"How?" Darius asks.
"I added a separate DNA strand. I wanted to see if we could make an intelligent dinosaur." Richard explained.
"Why would you want to do that?" Peter asked with a scoff.
Richard sighed. "Because someone approached me with a business opportunity."
"I do not like the sound of that," Sammy said, getting a little too close to home for her.
"He said that his boss was looking into an idea to splice the DNA of humans. Give them special abilities. Similar to the X-Men. Mutants. Create... Mutates." Richard continued to explain. "I don't know who he worked for, I only went through him. And... the idea of human DNA splicing on people intrigued me."
"Why?" Sammy asks.
Peter however seemed to get where this was going. "No." He said, getting everyone to look at him. "You were trying to see if it was possible to clone a person."
Brooklynn and Yaz seemed to get where this was going. "You were trying to clone your wife?" Yaz asks.
Richard looked down, not answering, but that was enough for them.
"Dude, you need therapy," Kenji stated.
Peter scoffed as he walked a few feet away, not even looking back. "How do you even... I don't... I just don't have the words. So, to be clear, rather than raising the child you have, you went out of your way to make an unstoppable killing machine?"
"I wish..." Richard sighed.
"What does that mean?" Peter asks, finally looking back at his dad.
"There were others," Richard admitted.
That got the group to freeze. "What?"
"We had several experiments before the Indominous was confirmed to be possible," Richard admitted.
"On... what?" Ben was afraid to hear.
Richard seemed to hesitate in his answer. "Volunteers."
"People?" Peter asked with a scoff.
"And the 'you got bit' comment?" Brooklynn wonders.
"That... that was one of our experiments. We created a spider genetically fusing all different kinds of traits from other spiders. The Delana, funnel web, and various others." Richard explained while Peter reached to the back of his neck. "It had web tensile strength tenfold. Its strength was twenty times its own weight. It had incredible jumping. Speed faster than any other spider. Even some of them got this early warning system when attacked by predators. A.. pre-cognition if you will. Those traits were supposed to be passed onto a human host."
"You were creating super soldiers?" Peter questioned his father.
"With a bit of a catch... I added DNA they couldn't replicate without me." Richard explained. "Fused it with the spiders. And the Indominous."
"What DNA?" Sammy asks.
Richard looked over to Peter and saw he was getting it. "Teresa."
"Who... who is Teresa?" Ben asks.
"My sister," Peter answered with sorrow. "The sister I never got to meet..."
"I wanted to see if it was possible to use her DNA. Create..." Richard tried to explain, but couldn't when the pain struck again. "I just wanted my family back."
Peter then walked off and headed to go sit by himself leaning against a tree. "I can't believe this." He groaned and punched a rock, cracking it into two. "Great..."
"So... that was a lot," Brooklynn said as she approached, seeing Peter was trying to figure things out. "How you doing?"
"Well, my dad, who I thought just helped run a theme park, was actually experimenting on people. Creating monsters. Working for some secret employer. All in the hope of resurrecting his dead wife and daughter." Peter recapped. "So, you know, I am going through some things."
"Yeah, I will say..." Brooklynn said as she slid down to sit next to him. "Not what you were expecting when you signed up for a camp trip, right?"
Peter chuckled. "Wow... that was bad. But not false." He then sighed as he laid back. "Am I wrong for being mad at him?"
"I mean... maybe?" Brooklynn wasn't sure how to answer it. "This isn't exactly a situation I am familiar with. I never did a 'Unboxing family therapy' video."
"Something for when we get the hell off this island," Peter said as a joke. "If we get out of here. We are completely-"
"I know where we are!" Darius cried, getting their attention. He ran ahead, looking at the tree line. "We're by the Carnotaurus paddock! I thought this place looked familiar."
"How do you know about the Carnotaorus paddock?" Richard asks.
"Right, you guys don't know about that," Kenji realized. "Oh well... you cant tell on us now, right?"
"If we get out of here alive..." Richard sighed.
They started to head towards the direction Darius was running in, but Peter left his father. Richard sighed as Sammy and Yaz helped him walk, seeing Peter needed a break, and wasn't willing to help his father out. It wasn't surprising after what they just heard, and they just helped walk him.
Darius led them through the bushes as they reached the fence. "I remember the fence..." That was when he noticed there is a hole in the fence. "The broken, ripped-down fence."
Ben began panting in fear. "That means That means Toro is out here with us."
"Now we have to deal with the Indominus and Toro." Peter scoffed.
"Hold up. How do you know about Toro?" Darius asks.
"We all know. Kenji told us, like, the day after it happened." Yaz admitted.
Darius gave him a look, remembering they said they would keep it a secret. "In my defense, me saving you was super cool." Kenji defended.
"Okay... despite that knowledge, I know this enclosure is due north of the main park." Richard sighed as he winced in pain. "So, if we keep going that way, we'll hit the visitors' center."
"They have any doctors over there for you?" Sammy asks, looking down at his leg. "Because that doesn't look like its getting better."
Richard sighed as he looked around, trying to focus. "I need to stop the blood from leaking. If this keeps up, I might pass out. Or worse..."
"Worse?" Ben asks.
"The Indominous can track us if it catches wind of my blood," Richard explains. "She... she has it out for me. She... she remembers the experiments it went through before they sent her to the enclosure."
"Okay, we are seriously having a talk when we get out of here," Peter stated.
Peter looked over at the trees and groaned, knowing he needed to do something to help his friends.
"Hang on." He got an idea as he climbed a tree, trying to crawl up but then slipped. But as he slipped, he stuck to the tree, revealing more of his spider powers were unveiling themselves. "Whoa..."
"Looks like you can really do whatever a spider can," Brooklynn commented as she walked up to the tree. "What are you doing exactly?"
"I don't suppose you ever did an 'unboxing first aid' video, did you?" Peter asked sarcastically.
"Not really," Brooklynn shrugged.
"Really? You did Mount Rushmore before first aid?" Yaz asked in surprise.
"What? I had professionals." Brooklynn shrugged.
"Well, I watch a lot of survival TV shows with my aunt," Peter said as he grabbed some vines. "I am working on making a cast using vines and a stick. Should stop Dr. Frankenstein from bleeding out before his Monster can catch us."
"Ouch," Kenji commented, understanding the reference.
Peter tumbled from the tree, deftly landing on his feet with a crouch to absorb the impact. He then strode over to Richard, winding the vines around the stick braced against his father's leg. As he secured it, Richard winced, and despite Peter's love for his father, he couldn't deny the flicker of satisfaction that came from causing him a bit of pain, especially since it was his father's actions that had led them to this predicament.
"There, that should stop the blood, take off the pain, and help you even stand on your own." Peter stated, helping his father to his feet.
Richard groaned as he stood, seeing that he indeed was able to stand on his own. But it was still hard for him to walk, so they saw he still needed some of them to at least walk with hi.
"Alright, come on," Peter said as they headed for the visitor center.
"I don't think reaching the center is going to help," Ben told Darius in fear. "A terrifying, camouflaged dinosaur trashed our camp. No way they have a plan for that."
"Ben, I know it's scary, but this is Jurassic World." Darius tried to assure him. "Dealing with dinosaurs is what they do."
"They didn't deal so well back at their first park, did they? Hmm?" Ben asks.
"Everything will be okay. Trust me." Darius said as they headed off toward the group.
David was looking down at a card that was being passed around the office for some guy named Eddie. Roxie was pacing around while becoming annoyed by how long it was taking for them to get into contact with Claire.
"Ugh! This is taking forever!" Roxie cried. "I know Claire's a busy lady, but we can't leave the kids alone with Richard all day."
"Wow, hittin' the first names. You only do that when you're annoyed." Dave commented.
"Of course I'm annoyed, David," Roxie stated as she stopped pacing. "We need to talk to Claire and get back to the kids ASAP!" She then headed towards the window. "But instead, they shove us in here and just tell us to wait for her, and then everyone just disappears!" She then opened the window and noticed there was nobody around. "Where'd they go? Something's going on."
"Look, I'm sure Claire- yeah, that's not gonna work- Ms. Dearing will get to us when she can," David said.
"When? We've been here so long, someone gave you a birthday card to sign." Roxie stated.
"All right, the real issue is that no one else signed it," Dave said, looking at the card. "That's just sad. Poor Eddie. "Dear Eddie, I don't know you, but I'm sure you're doing"."
"Will you put that down and help me find a phone or radio?" Roxie asked, beginning to search the area. "We have to get ahold of someone, ideally, Claire Dearing.
"Okay, maybe she's hiding so she doesn't have to sign this card and-" Dave said when he watched Roxie picking a lock. "Are you picking that lock?"
"What?" Roxie shrugged, finishing the picking. "I watched Brooklynn's "Hacks for When You Lock Yourself Out of Your Hotel Room" video. It was actually so good, I subscribed. Don't tell her."
"Mildly impressive," Dave said.
Then Roxie opened the cabinet to see a dozen radios that were filled with screaming over all of them.
"Shoot her!"
"Shoot her!"
"No! The order is to get-"
"Save Wu!"
"Keep out of the way!"
One by one, the lights went out, plunging Dave and Roxie into terror. Their faces, stricken with terror, reflected the grave realization that something escaped their exhibit. Something big and dangerous.
Back with the kids, they were walking through the woods, finally able to pick up the pace since Richard's leg was mostly better. But it didn't stop most of them from being on edge. Brooklynn however was still mad that nobody wanted to believe her that Sammy had something to do with Brooklynn's phone disappearance. She marched up and shoved past Sammy as she was nervous about if anybody discovered the truth.
Yaz watched this and approached Sammy in a friendly manner. "Don't let Brooklynn upset you. She's just being... Brooklynn."
Sammy then took out the phone and knew she needed to say something. "Yaz, there's something I..." She gasped when she saw a dead Ankylosaurus and a broken GyroSphere.
"The Indominus rex was here," Brooklynn whispered.
"Yeah, we got that, Sammy," Peter said.
"Predators don't kill prey and then just leave without feeding," Darius commented. "This this isn't right."
"She's smart," Richard explained as he stumbled forward. "She doesn't know her limits. She is testing herself."
"Learning where she fits on the food chain of the island." Peter was following.
There was a low growl coming from the tree and tall grass, getting everyone to shriek and run for cover. They didn't know what kind of dinosaur was hiding out there, and they weren't exactly in any mood to find out. As the grass was getting moved, a small Ankylosaurus approached and let out a small squeaky bellow.
Ben looked out and spotted the young dinosaur and recognized her. "Bumpy!" He then ran over and cradled the young dinosaur, getting everyone to come out of hiding.
"The baby dino from the labs?" Peter asked as he approached.
"And drooly, and smelly," Kenji stated. "How do you even know that's the same dinosaur?"
"Her big head bump," Ben said, gesturing to the Ankylosaurus' head. "Dr. Wu said she's asymmetrical, but he's wrong that it's bad. And so what if she is asymmetrical? There's nothing wrong with being different, or bumpy, or getting tired after reading an overly thrilling book! And maybe if her parents had listened to her, she wouldn't have come here and gotten attacked!"
That whole rant got them all seeing that he was not talking about Bumpy anymore.
"Are we still talking about the dinosaur?" Richard asked sarcastically.
"Feels like we're not still talking about the dinosaur," Yaz replied.
"As fun as this reunion is, shouldn't we keep moving south?" Kenji asks.
"I'm not spending another hour walking through the jungle, hoping that we don't run into that Indominus," Brooklynn stated. "We need a new plan."
"You got one?" Peter asks. "I am all for hearing anyone's ideas."
"Wait..." Richard got their attention. "If this Ankylosaurus is here from the labs, and if Wu followed protocol, she was released earlier today. That means that Wu's field genetics lab should be near here."
"Oh, that's great!" Sammy said in relief.
"Great! That's where we should go." Darius said. "There's bound to be an adult there who can help or tell us what to do. Right?"
At that moment, a distant roar pierced the air, signaling the presence of the Indominous. Panic ensued as everyone's eyes darted about, trying to gauge the proximity of the threat. The pressing question on their minds was whether the dinosaur might have caught the whiff of Richard's blood and was now on their trail.
"Fine, whatever! Let's just go to the lab." Brooklynn cried in terror. "As long as we are moving away from that."
Everyone began to head off towards the labs with Richard leading them when Ben stopped them. "What about Bumpy?"
"She's a dinosaur, bro." Kenji reminded him. "She belongs out here in the wild."
"And she'll just slow us down," Yaz said. "We are already trying to keep up with Mr. Parker's injuries. We can't afford anything else slowing us down. We gotta go now."
Ben loomed towards Bumpy and saw they had good points.
Making their way through the forest, Peter was carrying his father by the shoulder as they headed towards the research labs. They moved past a giant tree leaf that Yaz moved out of the way to be friendly to Sammy. But when Brooklynn approached, she dropped the plant hitting her in the face, causing Brooklynn to grunt and push the tree out of the way.
Peter sighed as he was seriously getting sick of the arguing. "Okay, we gotta take a second." He said, turning over towards the group. "Because I am seriously getting sick of this!"
"What?" Yaz asks.
"This!" Peter exclaimed, motioning towards the three girls in a row. "I understand we're all tense. However, if you believe you've had the worst day, step aside, because my 'dad attempted to clone my deceased mother and sister' like he is Dr. Frankenstein tops it all," he declared, his frustration evident over their trivial troubles. It was the first time they had witnessed Peter truly agitated, as nothing on the trip had given him cause for such anger until now. "So, until we get off of this island, I want us all to at least try and act like a group. Or at least act civil." Then he began pointing them off. "Brooklynn, do not even mention the word 'phone' unless you find a working one." He then pointed to Yaz. "Yazmania, stop acting like Brooklynn ran over your dog. She is just frustrated and has a reason to be furious to be losing her phone at this moment where it could be handy. But it is gone, we can't do anything about it." He then looked at Sammy. "And Sammy..." He watched as she got nervous at his voice. "Actually, I really have nothing, you're... you're fine. I just had to get that last bit of anger out."
Sammy seemed relieved to hear that.
"So... until we are off this island, until we are all safe on a boat- hell, no, until we are on the mainland, with no dinosaurs in sight...I want all of you to act like civilized people who depend on one another! BECAUSE WE DO!" Peter tells them all.
Everyone saw he was serious and all seemed to calm down. "Whoa, kid," Richard commented in surprise. "When did this happen?"
"Guess we can chalk that up to your stupid spider bite giving me a spine," Peter proclaimed, marching off.
"Yikes," Kenji said as he and Darius stayed back a little. "He is scary when he is angry. I think it's the height."
"I heard that, Kenji!" Peter called back.
"Gah!" Kenji shrieked as he marched ahead, trying to keep up. "Why are we moving so slowly? Let's pick it up, people!"
Darius then noticed that someone was missing. "Wait. Guys, where's Ben?"
They then looked back and noticed Ben was walking backward, coming out of the bushes as he was grunting from pushing something along. "Shh! Shh! Come on."
Yasmina clears throat, getting Ben's attention.
"Hey!" Ben said, pushing something back with his leg. "ow's it hangin' dudes?"
Peter sighed as he rubbed his head. "Ben, are you hiding Bumpy in that bush?"
They heard a soft bellowing from the bush, getting their point across. "Nope. That could be anything. The jungle makes all sorts of weird noises." That was when Bumpy jumped out of the bushes, running into Ben's leg, and causing Ben to fall over. "How did she get here?"
"We don't have time for this!" Yaz cried. "There are dinosaurs eating people out here, and Bumpy can't keep up!"
"She can move faster." Ben defended. "Ankylosauruses run fast. Right, Darius?"
"When they're fully grown, maybe," Darius shrugged. "But she's just..."
That was when Bumpy shrieked, then fell over and plopped like a cat that was tired.
"Wow! Yeah, total speed demon." Kenji stated. "Say goodbye, Ben."
And with that, everyone began to walk off, heading for the facility. But it seemed Ben had a thing or two to say as he finally got frustrated. "No!" That got their attention. "You say hello because she is coming with us! So... there!"
"Ben, you're not thinking this through," Brooklynn said. "Bumpy's too slow."
"Then- then we'll put her in the van!" Ben stated.
Richard called out to that statement. "Uh, what van?" He asked, gesturing around them to see only the jungle. "We don't have a van."
"What about that one?" Ben asked, gesturing over towards a van on the side of the road.
That got all of their attention and they sighed in relief as they headed over toward the van. They opened the back where they saw a handful of weapons hanging on the wall, as well as a few scattered radios.
"It's an ACU transport!" Richard sighed in relief.
"That stands for Asset containment unit," Kenji said as Peter was helping Richard into the van to help him sit. "Got the tour of their HQ. Super hardcore dino-trapping security dudes."
"Then where are they?" Darius wonders.
That got them to wonder the same thing as they looked around.
"Is that a tablet?!" Brooklynn cried as she saw a tablet and jumped at it, trying to get into contact with someone.
Peter looked around the van and quickly found a medical kit. "Here we go." He said as he approached his father with proper bandages. "You're lucky May put me through medical training while I was helping at F.E.A.S.T."
Richard sighed as he leaned back and allowed Peter to properly bandage his leg. "Listen... Peter, I am sorry for all of this."
"What, creating a genetically superior intelligent dinosaur, getting it to have a grudge against you, or creating super enhanced freaks of nature, and accidentally turning your son into one of those freaks?" Peter questioned, listing the various things that Richard had to be sorry for. "I am just saying, maybe narrow down what you are apologizing for."
Richard groaned as Peter tightened the bandages around his dad's leg. "So much like your mother." He sighed. "I know that I wasn't always there, but I promise... when we get out of here, I will do better."
"When we get out of here, you have a lot to make up for," Peter stated.
"I promise you, I will spend the rest of my days making up for lost time and all of my mistakes," Richard promises him. "But don't ever call yourself a freak, son. I know this was an accident, but you were given great power. And I finally realized that with that great power, just like this place, comes great responsibility. I didn't take my responsibility seriously, and now we are being... hunted." He grunted and winced when Peter finished bandaging his leg and gave him some morphine for the pain (thank you, May). "I will make this right."
"Well, like Ben used to say... Actions are louder than words," Peter said as he sat down.
Sammy then picked up one of the radios. "What did they tell us? Oh, right. Come on, channel six." She said, tuning the radio onto Channel Six. "Dave, Roxie! Can y'all hear us?"
There was nothing but a static crackle from the other end.
"The Indominous must have knocked out the radio towers," Richard sighed in anger.
"And naturally, there's no communication feature," Brooklynn scoffed. "Because why would there be? If I had my..." She cut herself off mid-sentence as a loud bang made her flinch and turn to see Peter had punched the side of the van, leaving a dent, silently reminding her of his earlier warning. "Never mind..." Then she heard the tablet ping, getting her to look at the tablet. "There's a map program with little moving dots on it."
Darius moved over to see what she was looking at. "They chip all the dinosaurs electronically to track them. See? There's us, and there's..."
The map pinged when Darius poked the screen, showing that all the Brachiosaurus were far off from where they should be.
"Wait. Here's the Brachiosaurus Grove on the map, so why are the Brachiosauruses way over there?" Kenji asked, knowing the park better than... you know.
Richard seemed to be filled with dread when the thought crossed his mind. "The fences are down."
"What?" Darius asked in fear.
That was when the van got shaken by Ben who was carrying Bumpy and getting her to the van. Bumpu squealed, roaring off in the distance. "Easy, girl."
That was when they heard footsteps of something big coming towards them.
"Guys?" Ben called out. "Something's coming this way."
"That's weird," Brooklynn said, seeing that the map wasn't pinging. "Whatever that is, it isn't showing up on the tablet."
"What kind of dinosaur wouldn't have a transponder?" Darius asks.
Then there was a chill of fear that went through Richard as a thought came to mind. "She remembers where they put it in..."
"Who?" Kenji asked.
"Teresa..." Richard whispered.
That was when they heard the unmistakable roar of the Indominous in the distance, getting everyone to scream in terror.
"We gotta go now!" Darius cried.
Everyone got into the van while Peter grabbed Bumpy and tossed her into the van with his enhanced strength. They all climbed inside and all began to buckle.
"Go! Go!"
"Move!"
That was when Peter realized a small flaw in their plan. "Wait... if we are all back here, then who's driving?"
Everyone looked towards the front seat and saw there was nobody in it. "Don't look at me." Richard groaned, reminding them of his current situation. "I can barely feel my legs from the pain, as well as the morphine flowing its way through me. "
"Well, we drove gyrospheres, right?" Sammy asked. "It can't be that different."
"The gyrospheres had joysticks and a Jimmy Fallon tutorial." Ben reminded her. "I don't even have my learner's permit!"
"I do!" Kenji cried as he jumped up front. "Hands at ten and two-"
Then the trees in the distance began to move, getting them to panic further.
"Kenji, go, quickly!"
Kenji slammed on the gas, only for the van to be in reverse, heading closer towards the dinosaur.
"Wrong way! Wrong way!" Ben cried.
Kenji grunts as he moves the gear to get them to head forward. As he did so, the Indominous stuck her head out of the bushes and seemed to have picked up Richard's scent and began to give chase.
"It's gaining! Go faster!"
"I can't!"
"You're in the wrong gear!"
"Well, how do I shift gears?"
"How should I know?"
"Mr. Parker, anything you can do to help?" Brooklynn asked the only adult.
Richard laughed as he bounced from the chaotic driving. "This is so fun..."
"Well, that morphine kicked in." Peter stated as he looked to the back doors with a groan. "Oh, I am going to regret this." He then unbuckled and headed to the back doors. "Kenji, if you drop me, I will hunt you down and string you up like a fly!"
"What are you doing?!" Yaz asks.
"Introducing myself to my little sis," Peter stated, clutching his fist as he punched as hard as he could, sending the van back doors flying. The doors hit the Indominous, causing her to screech and slow down to begin whipping the glass off of her face. "Whoo!" He cheered as he looked back at them. "I had no idea if that would work...also, OW!" He cried as he clenched his fist. "Super strength, yes. Super durability, no."
Everyone looked in amazement while Kenji looked back, not paying attention to the road, getting Yaz to jump when she saw he was heading for a tree. "Watch out!"
They then watched as Yaz spun the wheel, sending them off course. Luckily Peter managed to grab the wheel and sent them flying through the jungle. They hit a rock like ramp and were sent flying. They screamed in fear as they slid down the hill and slammed against a tree. They all took a moment to breathe, seeing that they were safe. Peter was clinging to the side of the van while his arms and legs were stretched to ensure he didn't go flying out the back.
"At least we lost Indominus," Sammy said.
"Now where do we go?" Brooklynn wonders.
Bumpy groans as she jumps at Ben's legs.
"How about into the genetics lab?" Ben asked, pointing to the genetics labs ahead of them. "It's a gift."
They made their way inside as the doors opened with a hiss. They saw all the lights were off, with the only light coming from a birthday cake in the middle of the room. That got everyone confused when they saw the cake and made their way inside.
"So, the cake isn't a lie?" Peter asked.
"Anyone gonna eat it?" Richard asks.
That was when someone jumped from behind the desk while screaming. His screaming got them to scream in retaliation of terror. When the man calmed down, he turned the light towards them and saw they were humans. "Not dinosaurs." He said in relief. "You're not dinosaurs." He sighed in relief and fell on the desk. "This is the worst birthday ever."
Everyone was then handed out a piece of cake as this was the first thing they had eaten since escaping their camp. Richard was beginning to feel the effects of the morphine again. Peter was left watching his father as he giggled every once in a while to himself.
"Again, we are so happy we found you," Darius said to Eddie, the person who they found. "Things are crazy! There's a giant camouflaged dinosaur out there. Also, regular dinosaurs. We've been hoping to find someone-"
"You're sure you closed the door behind you, right?" Eddie asked them as he checked the doorway.
"Uh, I think so," Darius said.
"You think, or you know?" Eddie asked in fear.
Kenji belches, interrupting the questioning. "Sorry? Did you want it back?"
"You know what? Doesn't matter." Eddie sighed in anger as he marched off. "The dinosaurs got out and no one bothered to tell me; they just ran. So, why not? Knock yourself out."
Brooklynn groaned as she tried to call out for help. "Ugh! There's no dial tone!"
"The landlines are down." Eddie sighed as he leaned on the wall. "So is the radio, and cell phone service keeps cutting out."
"But the park obviously has a plan," Darius said. "So, what's that plan? What do we do?"
"You're asking me?" Eddie asked as he began to laugh maniacally. "Asking me?"
"Is that, like, a good freaky laugh?" Sammy asks.
"Do you not get it? We're doomed." Eddie stated as he marched over towards them. "No one is coming to help!"
"But what about Dr. Wu, or-"
"Wu? Who do you think is to blame?" Eddie asked. "Wu got greedy." He proclaimed as he gestured over to Richard. "And instead of dinosaurs, he built monsters! Right, Richard?!"
Richard looked over at his own hand, almost like he was staring at something that wasn't there. "Yeah, that morphine will wear out in a few minutes. Until then, he is as high as a kite."
"Like it matters!" Eddie scoffed as he tossed an empty case file at them. "X-23. SM-19. TASM-41. V-252. S-63. AS-6."
Peter looked at the dozens of cases that were redacted and now emptied.
"Masrani, Dearing, they're all clueless about what's really going on here," Eddie said as he approached the eggs that were left in the incubator. "And after everything I did for the other guys."
"Other guys?" Peter asked. "What other-"
"It doesn't matter, does it?" Eddie asked. "Jurassic World isn't a park. It's a powder keg, and it is detonating all around us! We're all going down. End of story!"
"No, you have to know what to do," Darius said. "You're an adult!"
"Don't look at me," Eddie scoffed. "I was just hiding until you all barged in."
"But we drove all the way here 'cause-"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Eddie stopped him when he heard that. "You have a vehicle?!"
And with that, he raced off towards the exit. It took them a moment to realize exactly what was going on. "Guys, I left the keys in the van," Kenji warned them.
They ran off towards the entrance when Peter stopped to hear Richard scream in pain. "Guess the morphine wore off."
Everyone else was running for the van while Peter was being held back by
"Stop! What are you doing?" Darius asked.
"Getting out of here alive!" Eddie stated as he entered the van.
Yaz started to try and pick up her pace to try and reach the van before he drove off. Peter had a similar idea as he passed his father along to Kenji and raced ahead. But that didn't end well as when Yaz was about to reach the van, Bumpy got in the way and caused Yaz to fall over. Peter was running too fast and had no idea how to slow himself and ended up tripping as well on Yaz and the two of them tumbled over.
Peter groaned as he landed next to Yaz. "You okay?"
"Fine," Yaz said as she snarled at the baby dinosaur. "Bumpy!"
They dashed towards the van, but Eddie had already fired up the engine and was pulling away. In a desperate move, Peter tackled Yaz out of harm's way, narrowly avoiding her being run over. Scrambling to his feet, Peter sprinted after the van, closing in fast. But as he was about to reach the vehicle, a piercing buzz in his head caused him to flinch and clutch at his skull. This sudden distraction led to a collision with a tree, leaving Peter dazed. Ironically, this mishap saved him, as the Indominus burst through the forest, slamming into the van and sending it tumbling.
The Indominous then ran for the van, still getting a scent of the blood Richard left inside. When she saw Eddie, she grew in anger as she then attacked him. All the kids saw was the van shaking and the Indominus' head silencing the screams of Eddie. Richard saw this whole ordeal and knew that they needed to get the Indominous away from the van.
Peter scurried to his feet the best he could when the Indominous got his scent, getting her to look over towards him. Seems she recognized he had Richard's blood and roared as she charged at him.
"Peter!" Yaz cried in terror.
That was when a rock was flung in the air, smacking the Indominous on the head. "Over here, you colossal fossil!" That got both the Indominous and Peter's attention as they looked to see it was Richard, standing in the open field. He had something in his hand, which he activated revealing to be a flare. "Looking for me?!"
The Indominous growled at the sight of him. "Dad, what are you doing?" Peter asks.
"Like you said, kid... Frankenstein." Richard sighed, knowing what happened to the mad scientist. "Get them out of here, son."
Peter froze when he realized what his father was doing. "Dad? No... NO!"
"Come on!" Richard cried as the Indominous gave chase, leading her away from the vehicle and into the forest. "Come and get it!"
Darius and the group hurried to Peter's aid, lifting him to his feet just as they witnessed Richard giving up his life for their escape. The Indominous pursued Richard into the forest, but only for a short distance before he stumbled over a branch and crashed to the ground. Turning back, Richard saw the Indominous towering above him, realizing his end was near. Yet, in these final moments, he found solace in the thought that his sacrifice might absolve his past wrongs, provided his son escaped the island alive.
"Come on... I know you want to do it..." Richard told the creature, seeing she was relishing in her victory. "DO IT! COME ON!"
The Indominus unleashed a massive roar, lowering her head toward the man who had brought her to life. A single, thunderous scream resonated through the jungle just as they were packing the van. Peter stood motionless, his acute senses picking up the scream with crystal clarity, a harrowing confirmation that his father had met his end by the very creature he had created.
Peter froze when he heard the scream and couldn't even feel it when Darius walked up to him. "Peter?"
"He... he's gone," Peter whispered.
"What?" Sammy asks.
"My dad..." Peter choked out. "He's gone..."
"I am so sorry, Peter," Yaz said as they heard the thumping footsteps. "And I don't want to rush this, but we have to go!" She then pulled Peter along and pushed him into the back of the van where Darius joined them. She then ran up front and pushed Kenji out of the driver's seat. "I am driving!"
Yaz stepped on it as the Indimonous exited the woods, letting out a roar as she saw the rest of the kids escape her grasp. Everyone stayed silent as they weren't sure what to do or even say. Richard gave his life so that they could escape.
"Kids?" They heard Roxie say over the radio, getting them to see they were in range. "Come on, pick up! There's something going on. Stay at camp. We're heading to you."
"No, we're heading to you!" Darius called into the radio.
"Darius! Wait, why are you-"
"We're fine, but we had to leave camp." Darius said.
"What?" Dave and Roxie asked.
"Long story," Darius said.
"Short story: a dinosaur ate camp," Yaz called out.
"Shorter story: epic leader Kenji somehow got everyone out safely," Kenji said, trying to act proud of what happened.
"And then we found a van and Bumpy!" Ben caught them up.
Bumpy squeals.
"I got nothing." Dave shrugged when he heard all of that.
"Where's Richard?" Roxie asks.
"Richard..." Brooklynn said as she looked over to Peter who stared off in an emotionless trance. "He... he didn't make it."
"What?" Roxie asked in shock.
"We're cutting through the jungle and heading to the main park." Darius caught them up. "Should be there soon."
They didn't hear anything back as they figured they were going to meet them at the camp. At least they had a reason to at least be thankful now that they saw that after everything they went through, they were going to get off the island.
"We're getting out of here!" Sammy cheered.
"Yeah! You hear that, Bumpy?" Ben asks.
"Whoo! Driver en route." Yaz said as she kept them on course.
Everyone saw that their small problems with one another were put aside and they truly did work together to escape. They might have lost someone, but they at least might finally escape the danger. Brooklynn finally decided to follow Peter's advise and held her hand out to high-five Sammy. Sammy seemed happy to see Brooklynn being friendly to her.
"We did it, camp family!" Sammy cheered. "And not a moment too-"
That was when Yaz hit a bump in the road, causing them all to shake, and Brooklynn's phone to slip out of her pants and hit the ground.
Brooklynn gasped when she saw the damaged phone. "My phone." She stated in anger, looking up to Sammy. "I knew it!"
That got everyone's attention and even broke Peter out of his trance when he saw the broken electronic on the floor. While Yaz was distracted by the device, she missed the bend in the road that was leading directly into a tree.
"YAZ!" Peter cried when he saw the tree incoming.
However, it was already too late; they collided with the tree, which sent them tumbling down the hill until they struck a large boulder, knocking them unconscious.
