Peter looked out into the jungle and heard the dinosaurs screeching and thumping their way through it. His senses alerted him in almost all directions. The dinosaurs were worried about something, and something big was coming.
"If what you are saying is true, then..." Peter was trying to figure this out. "The others are in danger." He looked over to Kraven and saw whatever that potion or serum was, it was taking its time to heal Kraven's body. "Okay, we only have two choices. And I really don't want to leave you behind, so I need to take you with me. But if I do, I need your word you won't hurt me or my friends."
Kraven was breathing heavily as he looked over to Peter. "On my word as a Hunter... until this creature is vanquished, we have a pact."
Peter sighed and knew that was the best he could do and nodded. "Guess that'll have to do." He then ran over and grabbed Kraven. "Upsy-daisy." Then he ran off, making his way to camp so that they could hold down.
Brooklynn and Sammy were still looking at the destroyed chamber that was once holding E750. They saw that this meant that the dangerous creature was already on the loose.
"We gotta warn the others," Brooklynn said as they ran out of the facility.
Running outside, they were making their way towards the Gyrosphere but they saw the dozens of dinosaurs coming from the jungle kicking the Gyrosphere. Brooklynn and Sammy ran as they saw the stampede coming and watched the Gyrosphere being kicked around constantly. Seeing they didn't have much of a choice, they ran to try and wait out the stamp against a rock. They saw in the distance a brachiosaurus be taken into the tree sight, causing them to panic.
"Come on," Brooklynn said, not wanting to stick around. "Sammy. Sammy, come on!"
Sammy shrieked as a triceratops armed the rock by mistake trying to get away and she ran off. Brooklynn and Sammy fell into a ditch that they used for cover against the dinosaurs and made their way back to camp. But they didn't see that the V252, the last of the experiments, was crawling its way off into the jungle.
Back at camp, Laura was helping Darius pack up everything they were going to need for the ride back. He came across his field guide for dinosaurs book and opened it to look over all the creatures, and found an old photo of him and his dad.
"I know we still have another 12 hours until the patch on the boat is shipshape, but it seems totes be dry to me," Kenji stated as he joined them.
"Like how you thought it was last time?" Laura asked sarcastically.
"I really wanted to poke it to make sure, but I didn't." Kenji defended. "Restraint, yo."
"Trust me, I am using a much bigger restraint," Laura scoffed as she looked over towards Darius with a sorrowful look. "Are you okay, Darius?"
"Oh, nothing." Darius sighed. "I always meant to check out a Gallimimus for my… book, but never got around to it."
"Go now. Brooklynn and Sammy are off investigating a mystery with Peter, Yaz is on a run, and Ben's probably somewhere being weird." Kenji shrugged.
"Nah. I gotta get the supplies collected for the trip to Costa Rica." Darius said.
"I'll do it for you," Kenji said.
"You? Seriously?" Darius asks.
"I mean, there is a lot to do, and like I always say, "The more to do, the more 'I got this.'" Kenji said.
"Never heard you say that, but if you're sure…" Darius shrugged.
"Dude. Dude, positive! Go find your Galileo." Kenji said.
"Awesome!" Darius said as he jumped to go do it. "Thanks for being such a team player, Kenj!" He grabbed a radio and sped off. "Make sure you pack up everything we need. Food, water, and… I'll be on channel six in case of emergency!"
"An emergency packing supplies?" Kenji asks.
"Broseph, I said, "I got this"," Kenji said as Darius left.
"You are officially in charge! See ya!" Darius called as he left the gated area.
"In charge? In charge." Kenji repeated. "Kenji is in charge!" He started to do a little dance. "Kenji is in charge. Kenji is in charge."
"I'm going to get food." Laura said, leaving Kenji to do whatever this was.
Ben came back and was watching whatever was going on. "What is going on?" Ben asked, breaking Kenji out of the dance.
"I need you to pack… toilet paper," Kenji said.
"Toilet paper? Seriously?" Ben asks.
"We're gonna need it on the way to Costa Rica, and I'm in charge," Kenji stated.
"Sure." Ben said as he walked off.
"Kenji is in charge. Ben is not in charge, Kenji is in charge," Kenji went back to it.
Daris was out in the field watching the Gallamius run in packs. One of them stopped and looked over toward Darius as he stood on a rock, sketching one of them out. As it approached Darius, his radio began to go off, coming from Kenji as he scared the Gallamius.
"Captain Kenj to… Dariusaurus."
"Go for Dariusaurus." Darius sighed.
"You're sure that's the call sign you want?" Kenji asks.
"Yes. The answer is still "yes"," Darius said.
"Don't wanna give anything away, but I already did one thing, and it was flawless," Kenji said.
"Very happy to hear that." Darius sighed.
"I will do you proud," Kenji promised.
"Kenji, you have to actually do the stuff and not just talk about it in order to do me proud," Darius said, getting no response. "Kenji?"
"Right, yes," Kenji said as he didn't really consider that. "Loud and clear. Talk time is over. 10-4." He then went over to drop his hair gel in the bag. "And hair gel. Nailed it. What else? What else?"
Laura came back with the food in bags for them on the boat just as she saw Yaz return. "Hey, Laura."
"Yaz," Laura greeted.
Yaz stretched her limbs from the run and sighed. "This time tomorrow, we will finally be home. Excited?"
"You mean your home," Laura reminded her. "This island is all I've ever known."
"Oh, right," Yaz forgot about that a little. "Yeah, I didn't consider that. But hey, I am sure you'll like it fine. There's nobody trying to kill you every few seconds."
"Peter said Mutants like me and him are shunned," Laura commented.
"Well... sure," Yaz didn't consider that either. "But Pete will help you. All you need to do is try not to kill anyone, and they won't even notice you're different."
"Hide who I am because the world can't accept me?" Laura asks.
"Come on!" They heard Kenji groan, getting them to look and see he was trying to pull something out of the rubble.
"I thought the designated bathroom area was that way," Yaz said, gesturing towards the bathroom area.
"Ha-ha!" Kenji said sarcastically. "I'm in charge of packing essentials for the boat, and I'm gonna do the best job anyone's ever seen!"
That was when he fell backward and slammed against the ground as Yaz laughed. "You… sure about that?"
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure about that," Kenji stated as he stood back up.
"Seems like just yesterday you were shirking responsibility to do nothing instead of, you know, the bare minimum," Yaz commented.
"Yeah. Well, maybe I'm a new man." Kenji stated.
"Seem like the same man to me," Laura commented as she sniffed around, noticing the loss of a member. "Where's Ben?"
"He went to get TP for the trip about an hour ago," Kenji shrugged.
"An hour? To just get something from just over there?" Yaz asked, gesturing over toward the toilet paper.
Kenji then realized his mistake. "Oh. Do you think something happened to him?"
"On this island?" Yaz asked sarcastically. "Yeah! I think it's a possibility!"
They then ran off as Laura sniffed the air to try and find him.
Back with Darius, he was approaching a Gallamius who was alone. He approached slowly, seeing the dinosaur didn't seem scared of him.
"Good girl," Darius said as he petted the dinosaur. "You were my dad's favorite, you know. Sorry I didn't make it here sooner. I've been a little busy."
The radio static blaring caused the Gallamius to run off again. "Darius! Darius? Darius?"
Darius groaned. "What's up, Captain Kenj?"
"Nothing much. How are things with you?" Kenji asked.
"Good. Cool. Cool. Cool. Great. Awesome. Me? Everything's great with me." Kenji said. "Couldn't be better, really. But, hypothetically, what would you do if a totally capable
but scrawny dinosaur kinda went missing?"
"What?" Darius was confused by the question.
"Ben?" Yaz called as she and Laura headed into the jungle. "Ben!"
"Nothing. Never mind, don't worry about it." Kenji said as he blocked out the others. "I got this."
"Kenji, If this is too much for you to handle, say it, and I'll start heading back," Darius said.
"Oh, no. No. Don't sweat it." Kenji said. "Don't worry about it."
"Are you sure?" Darius asks.
"Absolutely, I got this, 100 percent," Kenji promises.
"Okay," Darius wasn't convinced. "So we've clearly established I'm gonna stay here and you're gonna pack? I should probably let you go, then, so you can focus on that."
"Yeah. Okay, but, like, one last thing." Kenji said. "Hello? Darius? Darius?"
"Darius? D? D-Boy?" Kenji asks, not realizing he turned the radio off. "Darius? Dariusaurus. You know what? I got this. I got this. I got this.
Darius was back at it, looking for the Gallamius when a heard of them ran past in terror. Then he watched another group looking at something before running away. Darius walked up to a tree where he saw quills he had never seen before on any dinosaur on the tree. He reached out to touch one when suddenly the tree creaked, getting him to look up and see a dead Gallamius come falling out of the tree, causing Darius to shriek.
Kenji was following Laura as Yaz stood next to her and they followed Ben's scent. She walked over to a cliff and downward to a whole herd of Ankylosaurus'. There they instantly recognized Bumpy and saw Ben amongst them with her.
"There's that little…" Kenji groaned.
Everyone made their way down while trying to not scare the herd. They walked amongst the Ankylosaurus' and tried to make their way through. The Ankylosaurus' groaned as they made their way through.
"Pardon me."
"Watch it!"
"Okay."
"Easy."
"Make a hole."
"Ben! What the heck, man?" Kenji asked as they reached him.
Ben shushed them.
"Don't shush me!" Kenji stated. "I told you to get toilet paper!"
"I did," Kenji said, gesturing to the bag of toilet paper. "And then I came to check on her." He explained, feeding the Ankylosaurus. "It's snack time for ol' Bumper Car. I didn't want her getting angry around her new friends." He then looked over and saw their faces of anger. "What's the big deal?"
"The big deal is you're not respecting the captain's hat!" Kenji stated, pointing to his head without the hat.
"You're not wearing it," Laura reminded him.
"Because you said if I wore it without being on the boat, you were going to claw off my skin," Kenji reminded her.
Laura grew a grin as she drew her claws again. "And I am still glad to do so."
Kenji whimpered as he backed off a little. "You're going to be so much fun for people on the mainland."
"Kinda messed up that you took off and didn't tell anyone where you were going," Yaz told them.
"I didn't realize I needed to ask permission to live my life." Ben stood up.
"It's not about that," Kenji said. "It's about being a team player. Darius asked us to get supplies for everyone, and instead, we had to go looking for you. Are you part of this team or not?"
"Okay! Sheesh! I'm part of the team." Ben said, almost like he was annoyed by it. "For the next couple of days, anyway."
Yaz was confused by that. "What do you mean?"
"After we go home, it's not like any of us will ever see each other again," Ben stated as he walked off.
Yaz rolled her eyes as they chased after him. "Sure, we will!"
"Doubt it," Ben said. "We're spread all over the country. Factor in time, money, and life. You get the idea."
Yaz never really considered that as she heard thunder rolling in and looked to see a storm coming in. She knew that they would all go home, but there were a few unspoken things that she never really said. But it feels pointless to begin to say those things if when they go home, they will likely never see one another again.
"No. We're all still gonna hang out." Kenji said. "Stop being sad, Ben. Captain's orders."
Darius was searching through his book, trying to figure out what kind of dinosaur would have done what he saw. He scrolled through his pages over and over, but couldn't find anything.
"What kind of dinosaur kills then drags its victim up into a tree?" Darius asks. "This doesn't make sense."
There were leaves rustling, causing Darius to shriek and look out in the distance. He saw something stomping its way through and he jumped out of the way as he watched the Rhino come charging through. He ran right past Darius, not giving him any mind as he ran away from the scene.
Darius panted took a deep breath and relaxed. That was when he heard the trees rustling and looked over towards the bushes just for Sammy and Brooklynn to fall and tackle him, missing the boy. They all toppled over and were shocked when they saw one another.
"Darius! Oh, my gosh!"
"We saw this thing…"
"It was on a video, and Dr. Wu was supposed to destroy it, but then he froze it, and it got out-
"Whoa, slow down," Darius told them both. "What is going on?"
"We found the lab Dr. Wu was using to make the Indominus Rex... and other hybrid dinosaurs," Brooklynn explained.
"There's more than one hybrid?" Darius asked in terror. "Outside of the Cross-Species?"
"He called it the "Scorpius rex."" Brooklynn explained.
"And it's loose on the island!" Sammy said.
"If you think the Indominus was bad…"
"This one's way more unstable!"
"This is why the dinosaurs have been acting so strange." Darius filaly realized.
"We can't wait any longer," Brooklynn said. "We have to leave the island. Now."
"Good!" Someone said, getting them to look and see Peter racing through the jungle with Kraven over his shoulder. "That means we're all caught up."
"Uh..." Darius was all confused when he saw Kraven. "What is Kraven doing over your shoulder?"
"He got attacked by the Hybrid, I healed him up, and now we have a pact where he won't harm us until the dino is dead or back on the mainland," Peter explained.
"Uh... okay," Darius supposed. "We need to warn the others."
Kenji, Laura, Yaz, and Ben returned to camp and looked around.
"Darius isn't back yet. We still have time." Kenji said in relief. "All right. We still need food and water. And I guess some bushes and junk for Bumper Car?"
"Kenji!" Darius called in.
"That's Captain Kenj." Kenji acted calm. "You were the one who wanted to use code names."
"Hey! We have to get out of here right now!" Darius tells him.
"What? What do you...?"
"There's another hybrid dinosaur!" Brooklynn explained. "Like the Indominus, but worse!"
"How? I don't understand." Yaz said.
"There's no time!" Peter called into the radio. "We're leaving now!"
"Grab the supplies and meet us at the boat!" Darius said.
"Kenji looked over to the supplies. "About the supplies…"
"Kenji!" Darius cried.
"I was too busy handling things." Kenji defended.
"That's what we're calling it?" Laura asks.
"We need that stuff!" Darius cried.
"I know! I got this!" Kenji tried to figure it out. "Yaz will go ahead to the boat and get it ready for launch. Ben, Laura, and I will pack up the essentials. Darius, Brooklynn, Peter, Sammy, swing by camp and help us carry everything."
"Copy that. See you soon." Darius said.
Yaz ran as fast as she could to reach the yacht to prepare and prepare to get them away. But when she reached the docks, she was shocked to see the storm was shaking up the ocean and the yacht was taking on heavy water and it would be too dangerous to try and set sail. Everyone else ran back to the camp and were shocked when they saw Kraven being carried by Peter.
"Is that Kraven?" Ben asked in shock.
"Yeah, he was attacked by the Scorpius, and we have an agreement," Peter quickly explained.
"Is this it?" Darius asks as they grab water and supplies.
"Yeah, I'll just grab the-"
Yaz was panting as she came running back to warn everyone.
"Yaz? Why aren't you at the dock?" Kenji asks.
"The surf is way too intense to cast off," Yaz explained them in terror. "Boat's already taking on water. No way to leave until the seas calm down."
"So, we're stuck?" Sammy asked in fear. "With the Scorpius out there?"
"No problem. Avoiding killer dinos is kind of our thing." Kenji tried to act assuredly.
"Not like this killer dino," Darius said. "We've only survived this long because we know how dinosaurs should act. With the Scorpius rex on a rampage, all bets are off. Soon… survival will be impossible."
"Don't beat yourself up," Kenji assured him. "There's nothing anyone could have done."
"You could have done the one thing I asked you to do," Darius said. "Then we could've made it to the boat."
"Well, I'm sorry I didn't anticipate the new, scarier Franken-dino. My bad." Kenji said.
"You said you had everything handled!"
"I did until Ben of the Jungle ran off!" Kenji said.
"Hey! I didn't ask you to follow me." Ben stated. "Besides, whether or not I was here, you could've grabbed more than your bag and hair gel."
"That's not fair. He was worried about you." Yaz defended.
"Guys!" Peter called out, dropping Kraven down on top of their hideout. "There is a lot of blame to go around. Kenji, Ben, hell, even me for wanting to help Kraven. But what's important right now is that we come up with a plan. Darius?"
"Well, while we wait for the storm to pass, let's do what we can to shore up the perimeter fence." Darius came up with a plan. "Just in case."
"We could use some of the rubble to fortify the fence, maybe?" Kenji asks.
Darius was still a little upset with him but nodded. "Yeah. Good idea."
Everyone was beginning to get to work doing just that. Peter was shooting webbing to latch sharp debris on top of the fence to use it to try and keep anything from jumping over. Sammy rolled a tire up to the fence while Yaz tossed some debris.
"Good work, guys. Don't we just make the best team ever?" Peter asked as he dangled behind them, giving Sammy an upside-down high-5.
"For now," Yaz said with a sigh.
"For now?" Sammy was confused. "What do you mean?"
"I mean… let's be real, guys. This friendship has an expiration date." Yaz told them.
"What? That's not true." Peter said as he dropped down. "Where's this coming from?"
"Open your eyes. We have nothing in common other than running for our lives all the time." Yaz told them. "And once you take that away, what do we have? Nothing."
Peter was confused about where this was coming from as he looked at Sammy and back to Yaz. "What? So... what, everything we've done? Everything we've done together... this is it? After all we've been through?" He sighed as he just shrugged. "If that is how you feel. Fine."
"Wait, what?" Sammy asks.
"She doesn't think relationships can work long distances, Sammy," Peter said with a sigh. "If she doesn't see what we see... there's nothing we can do. Even after everything. And I thought we learned by now..."
Yaz didn't even look in their direction as she felt tears swell in her eyes. She quickly wiped them out before they came into full tears. Brooklynn was working on getting a tire off of the jeep and needed some help.
"Ben! Help me with this."
They pulled it off and Ben dragged it away, and Brooklynn ran to grab the piece of wood lodged into the car. She pulled it, causing the horn to begin blaring. That got Kenji to shriek as he fell, and Laura snarled, drawing her claws and looking around.
"Sorry!" Brooklynn called.
"Wait. If the horn has power…" Kenji got an idea.
They pulled the battery out of the car and then prepared to use it to defend them.
"Now look around for some wires."
Peter whistled, raising his hands with the web-shooters attached. He then leaned the battery to one side of the fence and then shot webs to latch to the battery and the fence.
"Dariusaurus calling Captain Kenji," Darius said on the radio.
Kenji was confused and used his radio. "This is Captain Kenji."
"Good job," Darius said with a smile.
"Oh, good," Peter said, causing them to shriek and look up to see him in a tree. "You two kissed and made up."
"Seriously, dude?" Kenji asks.
"Sorry," Peter said as he leaped over the fence from the tree. "Not sorry."
Laura chuckled at her brother when she smelled something. "Guys? Something is coming..."
That caused them to panic and that was when lightning began to crackle. Everyone was preparing to hoard down the fort when Bumpy began snarling and jumping around.
"Bumpy!" Ben cried as she ran off into the jungle.
"She left us..." Peter said in terror. "She left us?!"
"Come on!" Laura said, dragging Peter up the tree.
They all climbed up and hid as they looked out into the jungle. That was when they saw the monstrous form of the Scorpius Rex. It looked like a ginormous velociraptor with quills all the way up its back and it was black as night, with lengthy arms that were much longer than the Indominous. The creature stalked the dinosaurs in the area and heard the crackling from the rain hitting the electrified fence. It approached the fence while everyone tried to stay quiet.
"Kraven?" Peter whispered to the hunter who was hidden under some boxes. "What can you tell us about it?"
"Intelligent, but ruthless," Kraven wheezed. "Found me in the bushes. Sight isn't its primary sense."
"Then maybe it won't see us," Sammy whispered.
The Scorpius leaned against the fence, quickly causing the electricity to make it jump backward. It searched the area and it caught a glimpse of their heat and raised up, revealing how lengthy it was, and then screeched into the air, causing everyone to jump back in terror. A quick flash of lighting later, and the dinosaur was nowhere to be seen.
"Where'd it go?"
"I don't see it!"
"I can't smell anything! This damn rain!"
"Did anyone see where it went?"
"Don't like hide-and-seek."
"Where'd it go?"
Peter then felt his senses go off as he froze in fear. "It's behind me, isn't it?"
Indeed the Scorpius was climbing a tree behind him, getting everyone to jump back when they saw the dinosaur as it came in and jumped across the fence to attack them. Peter jumped back as his senses alerted him of something. Everyone ran back as the Scorpius reached the top and began to attack them, causing everyone to either fall back or fall off the platform.
Yaz, Sammy, and Ben all fell off while Laura went in to strike the creature, clawing at its left eye, but it retaliated by striking her, sending Laura falling and slamming against the metal fence. Because her skeleton has a metal coating, she was electrified and screamed in pain as she fainted from the agonizing pain.
"Laura!" Peter cried as lightning struck a tree.
Everyone watched as the tree went up in flames and it was like the Scorpius was hypnotised by it for a moment. THey took that moment to try and climb down to try and escape with Peter seeing Kraven wasn't spotted and left him to draw the Scorpius away.
They got down, and Peter saw the Scorpius coming with its tail swinging towards Sammy. "Sammy! Watch out!" He grabbed Sammy, taking the full strength of the tail swing as he was sent flying.
"Peter!" Yaz cried as she climbed to her feet.
"I'm fine!" Peter groaned as he clutched his side. "I'm okay..."
The Scorpius was chasing the others as they ran their way to the fence only to remember that it was electrified and they couldn't touch it. They turned back and saw the Scorpius was preparing to attack them when they heard another screech out in the distance. They looked out to the jungle as the Scorpius stopped and quickly ran off into the jungle to chase after what made that noise.
"Why did it leave?" Yaz asks.
"Not sure." Darius shrugged. "Maybe it heard something it wanted more than us."
Sammy walked over to Laura and saw she was just slightly injured. "That thing was-" She gasped when she looked over and saw Peter standing back up.
"Sammy…" Peter wasn't sure about the gasp. "Are you okay?"
"Peter... Are you okay?" Sammy asks.
"Yeah, why?" Peter wonders.
Yaz pointed to Peter's back, getting him to look behind him, and saw a few quills from the Scorpius tail in his back. "Whoa. Would you look at that? I didn't even notice 'em. Look at that they are just lodged right in there, aren't they?"
"Are you okay?" Brooklynn asked, remembering that those quills were poisonous.
"I feel fine," Peter shrugged, seeing their faces. "Guys, I am fine. I... oh."
Peter fell to his knees as he fell on his face, getting everyone to run over to him in panic.
"Peter!"
"Pete!"
"Dude!"
Peter fell to his side and began to heavily breathe. His vision was beginning to become disoriented. He looked up however and saw Kraven was standing but when his vision became blurry again, Kraven was already gone by the time he looked again.
Across the whole jungle, all of the Cross-Species creatures can sense something going on with Peter. They were all connected and could sense the other when injured. And now they knew where to find him. Vulture took to the skies, following the scent. Scorpion snarled as he raced off into the depths of the jungle. Rhino began to snarl and charge off into the depths.
