It was just one shitty day after anoth—
"What's so bad about Thursday, Josie?" Asked Eira Jones, picking the grass as they partially lay under the shade in the Common. Eira's mother was somewhere nearby, gossiping with some other woman while Elen was clearing up some last-minute things to clear up at the bookshop, closing up an hour earlier than the usual 5 o'clock.
"Besides it soundin' like a name you'd give to a horse?" Jo mumbled, cracking her eyes open to peer at the older girl past Kolya's fur. She couldn't allow herself to do more than feel angry. Not with her magic and the Trace McGongall had liberally explained to them.
"No, it doesn't—never mind, it does. So what else?"
"Because it's Thursday, Eira. Thursday."
(Rather, she noticed she'd become more easily frustrated and impatient than usual.)
"Just because it's Thursday?"
(And Jo liked to think she handled stress noticeably better than Katya.)
"Mhmm," Josephine hummed, closing her eyes.
(They were still shit at it, though.)
"Then help me persuade Yaz's mum to let her play with us. She'll consider you more than me and you have Nikolay with you."
"You just like her food."
"So do you!"
"An'?"
"All you talk about is food, food, food but—hey! Don't put grass in my h—not in my mouth manhoos!"
(She really had to tell them soon somehow.)
"Yaz told me what that means, so no."
"What does it mean then? I overheard her mum say it about—I think—her uncle."
"A jinx, you cow."
"How do you think cows sit? And you're the cow. You with your five stomachs."
"Don't change the subject—I don't eat that much—and they sit like dogs."
Her body doesn't need a shitty clock to tell her when to fucking eat.
"What?! I'm asking mum!"
(Gods, she'll fuckin' miss them.)
