Chapter 6: Life After College
Agent BM: Yep, and you're about to find out
2000
As the rest of college went by, Honey and Zeke continued to stay together. They dated, attended their classes, and studied together. And then after a couple more years, it was the big day, graduation day.
"I can't believe it, I'm graduating college." Honey said to herself, as she got dressed.
She put on a nice blue dress, low black heels, had on her pearl necklace, and put her hair in a ponytail.
"You look great, Honey." said Buzz.
"All you need now is your cap and gown." added Bumble.
Honey then put on her black cap and gown and looked at herself in the mirror.
"How do I look?"
"Distinguished." Stinger told her.
Then there was a knock on her door.
"Who is it?" Honey called.
"It's me." called Zeke's voice.
She opened the door, and saw Zeke standing there in his black cap and gown.
"Hey, Z. Ready to graduate?" she asked him, as she gave him a hug.
"You bet. We're finally going to get our dreams." he told her.
When evening came around, all the students of the graduating gathered in the auditorium, and went to their seats. As Honey walked, her bees flew close to her.
"You nervous, Honey?" asked Buzz.
"Nope, I'm excited."
"Hey, look there are your folks." whispered Bumble.
Honey looked to her left, and saw her parents sitting the audience. They both looked very happy and proud. She waved at them, and they waved back. She took her seat, and Zeke took his in another. The dean then came onto the stage, and after making his speeches, he let the class' valedictorian say a few words.
Then people started getting called onstage. When it came to the business degrees, Honey got in line.
"Honey Potts." the dean called.
Honey walked up on stage, and the dean handed her her diploma and shook her hand. She smiled and waved at her parents again, and Zeke.
After Zeke got his diploma, the two embraced each other.
"I can't believe we did it." she told him.
"It was a lot of work, but it was worth it." Zeke replied.
They kissed, and went to her parents.
The four decided to go out to dinner to celebrate.
"Congratulations, you two." Wanda told them.
"Thanks, Mom."
"So what are you gonna do now?" wondered Trevor.
"Well we're going to get some jobs, and I think we're going to go to New York." Honey said.
That surprised Trevor and Wanda.
"You mean you want to leave the state?" asked Wanda.
"Well not anytime soon, but New York is where many new businesses thrive. If I can make it there, I can make it anyway." Honey told.
Trevor then turned to Zeke.
"Will you be going with her Zeke?" he asked.
"Yes I will." Zeke declared.
Trevor and Wanda looked at each other, and then back at the graduates.
"Well we wish you luck when the time comes." Wanda replied.
Honey and Zeke smiled, glad that they were being supportive.
After that day, Honey and Zeke got to work on their lives. Zeke moved in with a friend of his, and Honey moved back in with her parents. She got a job at the library and Zeke picked up a job as a mechanic at a garage.
They worked, dated, and saved their money.
2002
After a couple years they had enough money to move. They looked for an apartment online, bought tickets, and packed up their things. Honey's parents drove them to the airport, and saw them off.
"You call us as soon as you get to New York." Trevor told.
"Don't worry, Dad." Honey replied.
"We wish you luck sweetie. We love you." Wanda said.
"I love you guys too."
The three then shared a hug. Then her parents turned to Zeke.
"You be sure to take care, Zeke." advised Wanda.
"And be sure to take care of her." Trevor told him.
"Thanks, Mrs. Potts. And I'll do that, Mr. Potts." Zeke replied.
And with that, the two went to their gate.
They waited for a while, their plane arrived and they boarded it together. After hearing the safety instructions, everyone put on their seat belts, and the plane took off. As Honey looked out the window, taking on last look at Illinois.
"Well here we go. Away from the only home I've known." she told herself.
Her bees poked their heads out of her purse.
"It'll be okay, Honey." said Buzz.
"At least you won't be alone." added Bumble.
"Yeah." replied Stinger.
"Your bees are right, Honey." Zeke comforted.
Honey smiled at them, and then pulled out her Walkman and began listening to music.
Two hours later, the plane landed in New York. After getting off the plane, grabbing their luggage, Honey and Zeke stepped outside.
"Well here we are, New York City." announced Zeke.
Honey opened her purse, and let her bees fly out.
"Wow, a whole new state." observed Stinger.
"I can't wait to see all the new things." Bumble added.
"So what do we do now?" asked Buzz.
"Now we get a cab, and find a place to sleep tonight." declared Zeke.
They hailed down a cab, and asked to be taken to a sensible hotel. As they were driven to their location, they looked out at the city. Honey was amazed by all the tall buildings, people, and different stores and such.
Then they came to a Sleep Inn, and after paying the driver they went inside the hotel and checked in. In their room, they settled in and relaxed.
"Well tomorrow's the big day." Honey said.
Tomorrow the two were going to go looking for work. And Honey was going to pitch her business idea and get a loan from a bank.
The next morning, after eating some breakfast Honey got dressed in her nice clothes which was consisted of a yellow sleeveless blouse, black skirt, yellow heels, and of course her pearl necklace.
"How do I look?" she asked.
"You look great, Honey. And you'll knock 'em dead at the bank." Zeke told her.
"And we'll be with you." said Buzz.
"As support." added Bumble.
"Well let's get this show on the road." Stinger piped up.
Honey opened her purse and let her bees fly in, and then she kissed Zeke goodbye.
"Well here we go." she told herself.
She left the room, got a cab, and rode off to the bank.
When she got there, she took another deep breath, and walked inside. She told a teller why she was there.
"Just take a seat, and I'll let them know you're here."
Honey did so, looking over her papers as she waited.
"I can't believe this is happening." she whispered.
"Don't worry, Honey. You got this." Buzz whispered to her.
"Thanks."
A few minutes later, she was called back. She was escorted to a room where several refined business people were sitting around a table.
"Everyone, this is Honey Potts. She has a business proposition for us." one of the people said.
As Honey made her way to the front of the room everyone had eyes on her. She cleared her throat, and then began explained her idea.
"So my store will sell honey and different honey products."
"What kind of honey products?"
"Honey buns, honey cakes, honey candy, different flavors of honey, and even honey candy."
The workers looked at each other.
"This seems like an interesting idea, Miss Potts. But who will be supplying all the honey?"
"My parents have a honey farm, and they'll be supplying a majority of the honey."
After explaining more about her store, the executives had to make a final decision. Honey was asked to step outside, while they discussed it.
"I hope they liked my idea." Honey hoped.
"You were great, Honey." complimented Stinger.
"We believe in you." Bumble encouraged.
"We just have to wait." Buzz told her.
After waiting some more, Honey was called back into the room. She slowly walked back into the room, and stood before them.
"Well Miss Potts, we've discussed your business proposal and..."
Honey held her breath, and waited her response.
"We've decided to go forward with your idea."
Honey couldn't believe her ears.
"You really want to?"
"Yes, we think it'll be an interesting store. And we'll help you find a place for it to be, and setting up."
Honey smiled happily.
"Thank you so much." she replied gratefully.
Back at the hotel, Honey told Zeke the good news.
"They liked my idea, Zeke! They're going to help with my new business."
"That's great, Honey!"
The two hugged.
"We told you it'd go well, Honey." said Buzz.
"Congratulations." Bumble told her.
"You're going places." Stinger replied.
And it was true this was the start of something great.
