Chapter 11: A New Decision
Agent BM: You got that right.
When Honey got home, she told Zeke about her plan.
"So I thought I'd go stay with them for a few days." Honey told him.
"That sounds like a good idea. Plus I'm sure your parents will be happy to see you." said Zeke.
"I know, I'm going to call them right away."
Honey got on her phone, and called her parents.
"Hello?" asked Wanda voice.
"Hi, Mom."
"Oh, hi Honey. How're you sweetie?"
"I'm okay, Mom. How're you and Dad doing?"
"We're fine. Just keeping things working on the farm."
"Great. Listen, I'm taking some time off work, and I was wondering if I could visit you guys?"
"Of course you can. Will the rest of the family be coming?"
"No, it'll just be me. Zeke has to work and watch Zack and Sophie has school."
"Well just tell us when you want to come and how long you'll be staying."
"Great, I'll call you later." And they hung up.
Honey looked into flights to Illinois, and found a flight that was going to be flying out next week. She called her parents and told them when she'd be coming.
On the day she was departing, her family took her to the airport.
"How long are you going to be gone, Mom?" asked Sophie.
"Just for five days." Honey replied.
"Be sure and relax. And give your parents our love." Zeke said.
"I will."
Honey kissed her husband, daughter, and son and then went to board her plane. Honey happened to own a small personal plane, and was able to board right away. She greeted her pilot, and took her seat.
After buckling her seat belt, putting her phone on airplane mode, the plane took off. As it flew through the air, one of Honey's personal flight attendants, served her a glass of sparkling fruit flavored water, and a snack of mini honey doughnut holes.
As she enjoyed her snacks, Buzz's voice came from her purse.
"You looking forward to seeing your parents, Honey?" he asked.
"You bet. It's been a while since I've been home." Honey told.
"You nervous?" wondered Bumble.
"No, why would I be?"
"Because you haven't seen them in a while." Stinger mentioned.
"They're my parents, Stinger. They'll be happy to see me, and I'm going to be happy to see them."
It was a long flight, but luckily it was smooth, and Honey enjoyed herself. When the plane landed, Honey got off and thanked her pilot, and flight attendants. After getting her luggage, she found her parents waiting for her.
"Mom, Dad." Honey said happily.
"Honey."
Trevor and Wanda replied equally as happy. The three hugged, and went out to the car. As they drove to the house, Honey felt a wave a nostalgia as she saw the old and familiar places she used to go to or see.
When they pulled up to the house, Honey smiled.
"Welcome home, Honey." Trevor told his daughter, as he parked the car.
They all got out, and went inside. Honey felt good as she took in the familiar aroma of her childhood home.
"Come on, Honey. I'll help you get settled." Wanda offered.
They went upstairs, and instead of going to the guest room, they went to Honey's old room. Honey was surprised, as it looked just like how she left it years ago.
"Mom, you and Dad kept my room my room." she observed.
"Yeah, it made us a little sad to turn it into your room into an office or gym so we just kept it as it was." Wanda explained.
She then let her daughter to get settled in. Honey opened her purse, and let her bees out.
"Finally, out of that bag." said Stinger.
"It wasn't that bad, Stinger." Bumble told him.
"So this is your childhood room? Pretty nice." observed Buzz.
"Yep. This was my room from when I was in born till I was 18." Honey told him.
Honey remembered all the good times she'd had in her room. Playing with her toys, doing her homework, and getting ready for special events. She even remembered the not so good times like when she would get grounded, whenever she had a bad day and needed a place to cry.
After getting settled in, Honey spent some time with her parents. They chatted, watched a movie, and she helped them cook dinner. Together they prepared a meal of chicken and dumplings and brussels sprouts.
When they all sat down and ate, Trevor spoke up.
"It feels nice to have you back here, Honey."
"Thanks it feels nice to be back, Dad."
"We wish you'd come visit more often." Wanda told.
"So do I, Mom. But you know with work and we're pretty far apart." Honey admitted, sheepishly.
"But you're here now. And that's what matters." declared Wanda.
Honey smiled at hearing that.
Over the next few days Honey helped her parents on their honey farm, revisited her old places she used to go to, and even took a little trip to her old high school. When she got back home, she saw her parents looking over some papers.
"Everything okay, you two?" she asked. The two looked up and started to put the papers away.
"Oh, everything's fine, Honey." Wanda told her.
"Just going over the bills." explained Trevor.
But Honey could tell that something was up.
"What's going on?" she asked, sitting down on the table.
Her parents looked at each other, and then confessed. The farm hadn't been making much money lately, and the bills were starting to pile up.
"Why didn't you guys tell me? I could've loaned you the money."
"We didn't want to worry you. Besides, it's not just the money." Wanda said.
Trevor began talking next.
"Our bees have almost sucked all the nectar in the surrounding flower fields dry. We need to relocate, but we don't have the money for it."
"But don't worry, we'll figure this out." Wanda assured.
Even though, her parents has assured her Honey still felt unsure.
The next day while Honey was sitting in the living room watching TV, her mind began to wander. She remembered her youth, and how happy she used to be even though they weren't rich it was still a nice life and they were happy.
She was suddenly snapped out of her thoughts by the sound of her mother's voice.
"What?"
"I asked, what do you want for dinner?"
"Oh, I think I have a taste for some beef."
"Then I guess we'll have meatloaf tonight."
And with that, Wanda went into the kitchen.
At dinner, Wanda and Trevor noticed that Honey was quiet.
"Is something on your mind, Honey?" Trevor asked.
"Oh, I was just thinking, Dad." replied Honey.
"About what?"
"(Sighs), there's another reason I came to see you guys."
"Oh?" Wanda wondered.
Honey explained to her parents about her exhaustion, how she passed out at work and had to go to the hospital, and how she was feeling unhappy with her life. Trevor and Wanda were shocked to hear this.
"Oh, Honey. Why didn't you tell us this from the start?" Wanda asked.
"I didn't want to worry you guys."
"You're our daughter." Trevor told her.
"And even though you're an adult now, you're still our little girl."
Honey smiled happily.
"Thanks, you guys."
"If you ever want to talk about it, we're here for you." Wanda said.
After eating, the three sat down in the living room to talk everything through. Honey told about her feelings, doubts, and how even Sophie was feeling the pressures of being a rich kid.
"Hmm, it sounds like you and your family may need a change." suggested Wanda.
"A big one." Trevor added.
"I know, but what?" Honey asked.
"I'm afraid that's something only you can figure out." Wanda said.
Honey knew her parents were right. In her bedroom, Honey lied on her bed thinking.
"Penny for your thoughts, Honey?" asked Buzz.
"Just thinking about how I can change my life for the better."
"Any ideas?" wondered Bumble.
"Well I'm trying but I'm having trouble."
"Maybe you're overthinking this." Stinger told her.
"You think?"
"Yeah, I mean when was the last time you were truly happy?"
Honey thought about it, and memories began to flood her mind. She remembered growing up with her parents, having a life with Zeke, having her kids, and making her honey treats. There were no thoughts of being the CEO of her company, extravagant things, or lavish parties.
The things that truly made her happy was being with her family and making her treats. Then Honey got a look of realization and a smile on her face.
