The Sister
Chapter 2
"I love you," Elizabeth said brushing Juliets hair aside and pressing a kiss to her daughters' forehead. She quickly walked to the front door resisting the urge to call in sick and spend the day with Juliet. She knew that would get her nowhere. She pulled on her jacket and took her keys off the hook by the door.
"You're leaving again?" asked Isabella as she walked down the stairs; still dressed in her pyjamas.
"Yes Isabella," Elizabeth nodded. "Would you like a copy of my work schedule, or am I free to leave?" She huffs and rolls her eyes in response.
"Don't call me that." Isabella hissed.
"It's your name, time to grow up Tinkabella," Elizabeth said with a roll of her eyes as she exited the house. Isabella was caught off guard by the old nickname her sister had used. She hadn't heard it in years. She knew Elizabeth was only calling her Isabella to annoy her, her sister knew very well that she preferred to be called Bella. The only thing worse than her real name was the nickname her sister had given her as a young girl.
Elizabeth avoided Bella like the plague all week. If she didn't get home from school early enough, she could go the whole day without seeing her. When Bella woke up Saturday morning, she was surprised both Elizabeth and Juliet where both gone. Since it was Elizabeth's day off, she had at least expected to see her then. Bella asked Charlie where they were and he explained Beth spends her weekends in La Push, staying with Billy and Jake.
"Why?" Bella asked. Charlie sighed and looked away from the TV.
"Everyone needs a break from reality, that place is her break." She could see there was deeper meaning behind his words, but she couldn't work it out. She nodded her head before getting on with her day. If La Push was where Elizabeth spent her weekends, then so would Bella.
A few miles away at the Black's house Elizabeth was cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
"You're here early," Billy said as he enters the kitchen.
"Oh, yeah. Julie woke me up before the sun and I didn't feel like sticking around home. Hope it's okay I let myself in," Elizabeth said to the older man as she slowly stirred a pan of scrambled eggs over the stove. The bacon was already on the table and the toast was moments away from popping,
"You're practically family Beth," Billy smiled as he wheeled himself over to the small dining table in the centre of the room. "And just between you and me I'm just glad I don't have to cook for Jake alone. Kid's eating like a horse at the moment." Elizabeth laughed.
"Oh, our little boys growing up," she said in a dramatic, joking tone.
"You act too old for your age kid," Billy laughed, as Elizabeth frowned over being called a kid.
"Well, you act too young for your age-old man," she said back as she served him up a plate.
"Touché." Billy became like a second father/ cool uncle when Elizabeth moved back, and at that moment she was just glad she could laugh without Bella in the way of her routine. Elizabeth served up three plates of food and Jake soon joined them for breakfast. Billy wasn't wrong, Jacob could have cleared the table alone if given the chance, he was definitely going through another growth spurt. They didn't speak as the food was consumed, dishes cleared and moved to the sink.
Elizabeth was almost finished cleaning the dishes as there was a knock on the front door. Jake ran for the front door like the house was on fire. When Jake opened the front door Elizabeth could hear the voices of his friends Embry and Quil. The two were around here more often than not, Beth didn't know how Billy dealt with the constant noises the three boys made when together.
"Hey boys," Elizabeth smiled over her shoulder as they entered the kitchen.
"Hi Liz," smiles Embry.
"We're going to the beach. Do you want to come?" Quil asked. As Beth placed the last dish on the drying rack.
"I can't-" Elizabeth's words were cut off.
"Go, have fun. I'll look after Julie," Billy smiled.
"Are you sure?" Beth asked.
"Yes, I'm sure. You could use a break."
"…Okay," she said slowly warming up to the idea. "I just need to grab my coat."
It didn't take them long to get to First Beach from the Blacks house. Elizabeth had offered to drive but they decided to walk there instead. They had just reached the parking lot when Jacob recognised Isabella sitting in a van with a group of other teens around her.
"Bella," Jacob called out before they could reach the beach.
"Jacob," Bella smiled at him. Jacob quickly goes to her side, smiling brightly. "Guys this is Jacob." Bella said introducing him to her newfound friends.
"Did he know she was going to be here?" Elizabeth asked looking from Quil to Embry; both boys shrugged and walked after Jake. Elizabeth huffed out a breath and followed after them, not wanting to be left alone.
"You guys should keep Bella company, her date baled." Elizabeth heard one of the girls say as they reached the group of teens.
"What date?" Elizabeth asked. Bella's head snapped up, her cheeks went bright red as she saw her sister.
"She invited Edward," the same girl laughed.
"To be polite," Bella murmured looking down at the ground.
"I think it was nice she invited him," said a girl sitting in the front of the van. "Nobody ever does."
"Yeah, probably because Cullen's are freaks," scoffed a boy with curly blond hair.
"You got that right," smiled Quil and Embry nodded in agreement.
"You guys know him," Bella asked looking up at the boys.
"The Cullen's don't come here," Embry said vaguely.
"Come on guys, we should leave these good people to their surf," Elizabeth said walking away from the group. Embry and Quil both followed after her, but Jacob stayed back with Bella.
"Why do you hate your sister?" Embry asked once they were out of ear shot from the group.
"What gave you the idea that I hate her?" Elizabeth asked as they finally reached the beach. Slippery rocks crunched together under their feet as they walked along the beach.
"You got that look in your eyes," Embry shrugged.
"What look?" she asked.
"That 'I want to kill you' look you get."
"It's a long story," She mutters.
"Well, I've got nothing to do today. Embry how about you, any plans?" Quil asked.
"Nah, nothing." Embry replied.
"Then tell away miss swan," grinned Quil.
"You two wouldn't understand," she said, kicking some sand.
"Try us," said Embry.
"She's a spoilt bitch," Elizabeth hissed.
"Well, that's not a long story," said Quil.
"She's why I got thrown out of home, she found my pregnancy test and told Mum before I had a chance. She dug through my trash to find the dam thing. Neither of them would hear me out." Elizabeth felt sick just remembering that day. Even two years on her mother's words still rung in her head and hurt just as deeply.
"Thats more a sad story then a long one," said Embry patting her on the shoulder. "But now you have us, and Jake, Billy, your job, everyone in town loves you, and most importantly you have Juliet."
"Thanks Em," she smiled.
"Don't mention it." He replied.
"I better be getting back to Billy I'm sure Juliet will be waking up soon," she said looking at the time on her phone.
"Come on. Billy said he could handle it, trust him. Why don't we go to the diner, let them wait on you for a change," Quil said turning them towards the road.
"Okay but I want to be back at Billy's by lunch," Elizabeth said.
"Fine, fine. We'll have you back there on time," Quil smiled wrapping an arm around the older girl's shoulders.
"I was gonna say we should go get Jake but looks like he has other plans," Embry said pointing down the other end of the beach where Bella and Jacob sat amongst driftwood talking.
The diner door chimes, and Sue Clearwater looked up from the register. She was pleasantly surprised to see Sam Uley walking into the diner. He looked around the diner as though he was searching for something, or more likely someone. She smiled when his eyes finally landed on her.
"Morning Sam, glad to see you're finally back," she said in a blunt tone. He walked over to her his posture slumping a little.
"Hey Sue. Leah's not working today, is she?" His question didn't surprise her as much as the tone it was asked in. He sounded, worried, extremely tired and somewhat shy, she had never heard him talk like that before. He was usually confident and sure in himself and his words. Apparently more had changed about him in the two weeks he was missing then just his appearance. She wasn't sure how he had managed to grow so much in two weeks, but she hoped her daughter would look past the large muscles and chiselled looks when the pair spoke next.
"No sorry, she has the weekend off," Sue said watching as his face fell into a deeper frown. "She's probably sleeping in. Swing around home a little later I'm sure you'll find her. She's relieved to have you home, we all are."
"Thanks Sue," he nodded his head turning for the door. It opened before he could reach for it and a group of three walked in. Embry and Quil led the way, followed by Elizabeth Swan. Her only day off this week and the girl still managed to find herself here.
"Sam?" Elizabeth asked as she looked up at the man in front of her. The two boys had just walked around him but now they looked back at him with confusion.
"Hey Elizabeth," Sam said after a moment. He shook his head a little as though coming out of a daze.
"You're back," Elizabeth stated, her face still covered in disbelief.
"Yeah, I got back yesterday," he said.
"Leah must be so happy. She's been worried sick, we all have," Elizabeth said.
"Yeah, I called her last night, she's understandably angry but I'm going to go talk with her soon."
"Good, I'm glad your back safe." She touched his arm as she passed by him, offering a small smile on her way.
"Bye Elizabeth," Sam said watching her follow the two younger boys to a booth. Sue watched Sam's longing glance in Elizabeth's direction. She knew the loving looks he shared with her daughter and to see that used on another woman made her stomach knot up in distrust. Sam hovered for a few moments before leaving the diner, not without a final glance at Elizabeth through the front window.
Authors notes***
If you are only just reading this story for the first time this will mean nothing you but if you remember this story from when it first came out I hope you like the changes. This story was posted almost six years ago, I only got two chapters up before hitting a brick wall and not knowing what to do with it. I loved the concept and the OC's but I just couldn't make it flow. I wanted to write a Sam story last week and was flicking through my graveyard of story ideas when I came across this one and it just felt so right and perfect. This will be a SamxOC story and not a Paul x OC like the original story line. Emily isn't in it or at least not at this stage and not in her original role. Even though I love Sam and Emily together I wanted to try something different. I hope everyone enjoys. My writing style has changed a lot in the past six years so this story was fully rewritten and I hope it is easier to read now. I can change it back to first person if people prefer that. Love you all reviews are much appreciated.
