Chapter 3: Talking x when x alone

Minato's POV:

Slowly everyone started to come out of the tunnel, to an open, grassy area. As soon as the time for the 1st phase ran out, a gate closed the tunnel, leaving one man behind that almost got to the end, only one second too late.

'Man, this exam is pretty harsh, huh?'

The number of participants dropped significantly, and mostly the people that aren't complete fools are still in the exam.

Satotz: "The first phase isn't over yet. We're going to run through the forest of swindlers, so don't let yourself get fooled."

Stranger: "DON'T LET YOURSELF GET FOOLED!"

Leorio: "Satotz already said that!"

Stranger: "That person isn't the real examiner! I AM! He beat me down! In this forest live human-faced-apes, look!"

He shows us an ape with a face like Satotz'

'My god, it's so clear he's an ape himself...'

Crowd: "Who is the real one now?!?" "I knew he isn't human with that walk of his!"

Suddenly, a bunch of cards flies into the direction of the stranger, and also into the direction of Satotz. First dies directly, second easily catches the cards.

'Why do I hear a guitar playing in my head?'

(We all know what he means :) )

Hisoka: "Well, well, now we know who's the real one. Examiners are professional hunters, that would've easily dodged or caught that simple attack."

Satotz: "This time I see that as a compliment. But if you repeat that, I will let it count as an attack against an examiner, so you will get disqualified."

Hisoka: "Fine fine..."

Kurapika: "That Hisoka is really dangerous, just like Tonpa said. We should try our best to stay away from him..."

And then the 2nd part of the 1st phase started. There were many animals and plants with evil traps, but our 5 protagonists didn't have problems with them.

Gon: "Wait, where did Kurapika and Leorio go? I'll look for them!"

Killua: "Don't worry, just sta-"

Minato: "Forget it, he's already gone..."

Killua: "Man, does that guy even have a brain?!"

Minato: "Don't ask me... I dont know him much longer than you."

So Killua and Minato were alone now...

Minato: "You're different..."

Killua: "Huh?"

Minato: "You're not like Gon, Kurapika or Leorio. And i wonder why."

Killua: "You're one to talk. But you probably think that because I'm from a family of assassins."

Minato: "Oh, is that so? We are quite similar then. Which family are you part of?"

Killua: "I'm a Zoldyck. What about you?"

Minato: "Hm, my father told me about the Zoldycks. They're supposed to be pretty strong, about as strong as he himself. I'm from the Chiharas."

Killua: "Guess we really are similar then. I ran from them. Stabbed my mom in the face and my brother in the stomach" *giggles*

Minato: "I layed a fire" *smirks*

'He's quite fun to be honest...'

[15 minutes later]

The crowd stops in front of a big closed gate, waiting until the rest of the time for the other participants to reach the goal runs out.

[5 minutes later]

Hisoka just arrived with Leorio on his back, putting him down at a tree. Now Gon and Kurapika arrive aswell.

Killua: "Gon! I already thought you guys wouldn't have made it!"

Gon explains what happened, that Kurapika and Leorio found Hisoka beating up a few

participants, that Leorio wanted to fight him then and that Gon saved him and ended up fighting Hisoka aswell.

Minato: "I don't like that clown..."

Killua: "Me neither"

[Timeskip to airship]

Minato: "That examiner was cruel... I'm glad the chairman could change her mind"

Gon: "Still sad that we didn't beat her original exam though..."

Minato, Killua and Gon are now alone in the airship. Gon was then also informed about Minato's and Killua's background.

Suddenly an intense aura from the direction of a hallway fills the area. Then, Chairman Netero comes from a different hallway.

Killua: "You're pretty fast for an old man..."

Minato: "You made that aura, right?"

Netero: "Am I that obvious? Well, it seems I'm getting rusty... Well, do you enjoy the Hunter exam so far?"

Gon: "YES! It's awesome!"

Killua: "I don't enjoy it. It's boring..."

Minato "It's annoying and fun at the same time."

Netero: "Well, in my opinion it will get better and better. But you can't count on my opinion! Ha-Ha-Ha!"

'And that guy is supposed to be the chairman of the whole hunter association? THE BEST HUNTER IN THE WORLD? So many things are just too weird for me...'

Netero: "Hey, what do you think about playing a game with me?"

Gon: "YES!"

Netero: "If you win the game, I'll make you a hunter instantly!"

[5 minutes later]

The chairman now holds a ball.

Netero: "If you steal this ball from me, you win. But i won't make it easy for you! You 3 may also attack at once."

We decided to go one by one first, and Killua starts. He begins to walk circles around the chairman, creating "holograms" of himself while doing so.

'I know that technique'

Minato: "Rhythm Echo"

Gon: "Huh?"

Minato: "Thats the name of that technique. I can do it aswell. It's a technique used by assassins like me. I wonder what family Killua comes from..."

Suddenly the real Killua jumps at Netero, trying to steal the ball, but the old man instantly dodges without difficulty.

'That chairman isn't even trying.'

Gon then goes next. He rushes towards Netero, but jumps up right before being in his range. But then he hits the ceiling of the room...

Gon: "OUCH!"

Killua: "YOU DUMBASS! YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR JUMP POWER! THE OLD MAN DIDN'T EXPECT THAT!"

'He really didn't... it was written on his face.'

So Minato went next.

'I have an idea. I have to use THAT technique...'

Now all three attack at once. But even after 10 minutes they don't have any achievement.

Killua: "I give up."

Gon: "What? Why?"

Netero: "Oh, you noticed? I thought I hid it pretty well. Ha-Ha-Ha!"

Killua: "Let's go!"

Gon: "I stay here! I'm going to make him use his other arm!"

Killua: "You really are a fool!"

Then Killua walks away.

Minato: "Bye Gon, I go with Killua."

Minato followed Killua along the hallway, before Killua runs into two other guys.

Strangers: "Who do we have here? A little kid? Shouldn't you say sorry to your elders?"

'Killua's gonna kill them...'

Minato lays a hand on Killuas shoulder, signaling him to hold back.

Minato: "Leave him alone. Else-"

Minato gives them a death stare filled with murderous intent, flowing right into their soul. The two strangers run in the opposite direction as fast as they can.

Minato: "You should hold back with your killing intent. You were probably trained that way but it's not good."

Killua: "Why would you care."

'Good point. Why do I? I guess'

Minato: "I guess you're kind of a friend now? Well, atleast you're Gon's, and Gon is my friend."

Killua rolls his eyes.

Killua: "Whatever"

Minato: "Need a new shirt? Yours is ripped. I have a few more."

Killua: "Fine"

Minato hands him a shirt of his own.

Minato: "Well, I wanna go sleep now. Who knows how long the next exam is gonna be."

Killua: "I guess"

'God can you say a little more than 1 or 2 words every reply?'

Minato: "You're not a talker huh"

Killua: "Again, why do you care"

'He's right... usually I am not a talker myself. Why do i constantly talk to him then though? Weird.'

Minato and Killua go into their room they share with Gon, and both fall asleep in their own beds.

Note: Holy moly guys, I wrote this chapter way before chapter 4 already, but when checking, i noticed a lot of stuff was shifted around and duplicated and more... I copy pasted a lot from my old story and it seems like that makes issues... It took like an hour now to fix it all, hope everything's alright. Thanks for reading!
