Chapter 4: The x Trick x Tower
Minato's POV:
The airship arrives at it's destination and lands on a tower. Everyone leaves, and the participants get told that they have to get to the bottom of the tower. That's the 3rd Phase of the exam. Everyone starts searches for clues on how to get down, but then Gon notices something.
Gon: "Hey, guys look! There are less and less other participants, and they all go through some trapdoors. But after those are used, they don't open anymore. But we found a bunch here. Here's a group of 5."
Kurapika: "I guess we need to use these trapdoors then. Okay, everyone chooses one now and then we use them at 3!"
[20seconds later]
Kurapika: "Okay! One- Two- THREE!"
They all jump on their trapdoors and fall down a large hallway. After 10 seconds, Minato lands in a room, but only Killua is there aswell.
Killua: "Guess we're alone, huh"
Minato: "Seems so"
'Seems like a large hall...'
A few moments later, a voice is heard through a speaker.
"Welcome dear examinees. In this exam, you two will have to beat our smartest prisoner. But of course not in a fight-"
The room lightens up
"In a game of chess!"
In the middle of the hall is a huge board of chess, and on the other side is the supposedly smart prisoner.
"You will be able to make moves by announcing them out loud. Coordinate and piece!"
Killua: "I certainly didn't expect this"
Minato: "Same goes for me. I used to play a bunch of chess. What about you?"
Killua: "Same. My family thought it'd help me concentrate in the future or something."
Minato: "Well, let's see how this goes-"
Killua: "Wait, what if we lose?"
Speaker: "The prisoner's sentence will be halved and you will have to choose one of you two to be disqualified. The other will continue the rest of the exam."
Minato looks at Killua: "I don't intend that one of us two gets eliminated."
Killua: "I could care less I guess"
Minato: "You're harsh"
'I guess that's part of what makes him interesting?'
Killua: "Well, we are playing white. So we start. F4."
The F Pawn moves 2 fields forward.
Minato: "Well this is one way to play chess..."
Prisoner: "D5."
'Queen's Pawn...'
Minato: "Kf3"
The Knight moves behind the Pawn.
Prisoner: "C5"
Minato: "I see. He's going for Queen's Gambit"
Killua: "Seems like it"
They keep on playing for a while, exchanging pieces.
Killua: "We are 2 pawns behind. I guess it's acceptable, but not good."
Minato: "Yeah... we should think more about our next moves. So, what if..."
Minato whispers his idea to Killua
Killua: "I guess we can do that- hmm.. yeah okay. Qe3!"
Prisoner: "Bd4"
Minato: "He fell for it! Qd7, check!"
Prisoner: "Hmm, well done... King f7"
Killua: "Queen takes Rook on C8! We are up 2 material again! And we can go for a promotion-" Killua was cut off
Prisoner: "I surrender."
Minato: "Huh? I mean we were winning, but there was no 100% chance"
Prisoner: "In theory no. But I can't win against your teamplay. It's a waste of time. Thanks for the game"
He walks back into his hallway, before a bridge stretches out to another exit.
Minato: "We are probably supposed to go there"
The two of them walk along the bridge and after a few minutes, they reach another door.
"#99 Killua is the third, #406 Minato is fourth to finish the third phase of the Hunter Exam"
'Eww, only the two creeps are here yet... Hisoka and that robot dude with his nails'
Minato whispers: "Let's sit down as far as we can from those"
Killua: "agreed"
The two of them sit down opposite to Hisoka and Gittarakur.
Minato: "I'm gonna take a nap. Wake me when Gon and the others finish. I'm sure they'll make it."
Killua: "Fine."
'Could he say more than one word when replying to me? To Gon he acts all bright and talky, but me he ignores almost completely... it pisses me off to be honest.'
